Overall, Montaluce Winery is worth visiting for the beautiful views and the wine, but not for the food. The winery itself is stunning, and the wines are enjoyable and reasonably priced. Unfortunately, the food was a major disappointment. Everything felt overpriced, uninspired, and poorly executed. The salmon crostini appetizer was very ordinary and lacked any memorable flavor. The vegetable pasta was dry, undercooked, and felt unfinished, as if the dish was missing something. The pork chop was also dry and simply prepared. For a $40 entrée, I expected much more in terms of both quality and presentation. The only dish that was fairly decent was the seared chicken, but even that didn't justify the price. To make matters worse, by 4:00 PM they had already run out of the salmon entrée, which was extremely disappointing and not something you would expect from a restaurant at this price point. For the amount you'll spend here, you can dine at many excellent restaurants in Atlanta and have a far better culinary experience. This was one of the first wineries we visited during our vacation in the Blue Ridge area. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When we entered the vineyard it was as if we were back in Italy. The surrounding homes were built in the Italian style and the winery was very Italian designed.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We were not aware of the need for a reservation but we were lucky to snag two seats at the outdoor bar. I hadn't read the reviews before coming here, but I'm glad I didn't because the ratings are low on the side. I wanted to take my husband on a nice little day trip for his birthday and I'm so glad I did! We went on a Saturday afternoon and it was quite the drive but well worth it as others have mentioned. It was our first time in driving down the winding roads in Dahlonega is definitely not for the weak of heart. Once we arrive to the restaurant, we were told by the hosts that they were full for the evening and that we could try the other restaurant. Well lo and behold we go down to the other restaurant and there were two seats left at the bar. It was a beautiful sunny day with blue skies so we decided to stay and eat at the bar. It was a nice shaded area outdoors and it was perfect. It was really packed for a Saturday afternoon in October. I would say that Montelo is great for everyone. We saw young couples, families with newborns, large groups with friends, people from the town, just stopping by to pick up food. The food was good. We got a pie and branzino and then we did the wine tasting. Definitely delicious! I really can't explain it, but we experienced such serenity while walking down the rolling hills filled with vines. Plan your visit to Montaluce soon as possible. This Winery nestled in Northern Georgia is fantastic! A Sunday brunch at the Main Dining room was magical. The Main dining room has the option for outdoor seating on the second floor patio overlooking the vineyard and it was quite breathtaking. Having a reservation is preferred. Make sure you check the weather first and ensure you dress appropriately so you can traverse the grounds after your meal. For the brunch portion my fiancé and I ordered the Italian Breakfast then followed with our entrees the Ribeye & Eggs (added Home fries too) and the French toast. This restaurant is located at the very center of one so we could enjoy our Cheese and Charcuterie board with Focaccia bread service and wine over the beautiful views. It was a gloriously sunny and light breeze day. The wine itself was a little too sweet for our preferences. So sweet, the fruit flies couldn't help but dive in the glasses one right after the other. The charcuterie board had a good spread but the chopped pecans was a little unnecessary since we felt like squirrels picking up the small crumbs. Quality of cheeses and meats varied. We enjoyed the bread but were confused since it specified "bread service" which does NOT mean free refills unfortunately. Considering it was $7 for the two small pieces, we were very disappointed. The balsamic in olive oil was good but like with everything else, very skimpy. Overall, we had a great time enjoying the view, weather, and food. But given the prices and portions, we were left to crave for more. My hubby and I decided to do an early Valentine's Day dinner at Montaluce. A colleague of mine visited and posted photos of the elk Wellington. Hubs was too excited to try it so it was a must. First the ambiance of the place was just stunningly romantic. Gorgeous lights for a date night. We got two starter soups that were the perfect appetizer. The wine was delicious too. Not sure how long they sat before getting to us. The appetizer was the best part of the meal. I suggest the goat cheese flatbread. The soups we got (gazpacho, French onion, and squash) were all very spicy, but did not get served with any bread. The dishes sat on the table for so long that the food runners had to bus the tables. The pork chops we ordered were extremely salty. Almost inedible. The potatoes were supposed to be fried but were soggy and cold. We told the server, but he just said he'd tell the chef. A lovely vineyard and winery! The establishment is well kempt. There are 2 restaurants; a casual dining with pizza on the lower hill and a fancier uphill one where the wine tastings are. There is a small market to buy things and the staff is knowledgeable. There are several levels to see how the wine making occurs and there are tours if you get one. We ordered some food and just to hang out. It was nice! The only thing I have to say is that with that being said, everything that you would normally get at a decent price, everything here will be priced a bit higher due to the location and just the overall vibe or atmosphere. It's a vineyard. With that it seems that everything would just be a little bit more. The food itself was alright, we only got the charcuterie board and it was very well presented. WINE NOT MONTALUCE | My bestie and I decided to celebrate our joint birthday at Montaluce Winery. We took advantage of having MLK Day off to head up to North Georgia for some wining and dining. We made a reservation and about 5 minutes late due to traffic from Atlanta (surprise, surprise). However, that's when it all started going downhill. We were greeted at the hostess stand but was told there would be a wait, even with our reservation, due to quite a few servers scheduled to work but not showing up for work that day, so we headed over to the bar. We tried to flag down a server to at least pour us a glass but they were so swamped that we couldn't get a server so we gave up and waited until we were finally seated around 2:30pm, about 45 minutes after our original reservation time. Hungry and SERIOUSLY in need of wine, we ordered wine first before some much needed apps and bites. We LOVED our servers - super apologetic about the wait & sweet, and even brought over birthday candles for us to blow out without ruining the aesthetic photos of our desserts. My favorite bites were probably the lobster linguine or the seared diver scallops! Overall, everything was a-ok. The wait and lack of service for our first 45 minutes really hindered our perspective of the experience but our great servers once seated really made up for it. The place was not crowded but they made us wait till our reservation time of 12:15 when we arrived at 11:45. The place is beautiful but had a funky smell, not wine or fermenting grapes but like my groomer when I pick up my dog. Weird. We were seated and the tables are extremely high, just an fyi. Had a very laid back waitress. Took our drink order which took forever. Just soft drinks. Took another 15 mins to come back and we ordered an app. Omg took another 30 mins and then we had to ask for her to take our order. Literally sat over an hour for our food. I ordered the butternut squash soup and a side salad. The soup was cold, was not meant to be and salad was just so so. Everyone else's food looked ok but the burgers were rare and not medium. With all that time you would think they had the time to cook them. We had to get another waitress to get our check. I guess the new chef was trying to make the menu upscale and reduced the portion size and raised the cost. Next time the trattoria wins if we ever return. I recently had a terrible experience at your winery and want to share my feedback. I believe in excellence in customer service and hospitality, so this experience I had really upset me. I feel the need to share some of my experience in the hopes that it can help you to make improvements in training. I hosted a small group to your location in hopes of bringing larger groups on this 1 day trip. I walked into the wrong area, and there were 3 employees at a counter who all noticed me. They all continued to talk to one another, and just walked off without a greeting. One then returned with a menu, and I still had no greeting, acknowledgment, or even eye contact. The second restaurant location was not much different. There were 2 young ladies who all saw me. They both glanced at me, but didn't acknowledge me for around 6 mins. The hostess eventually look up and smirk while asking for my information. When I requested to sit outside and later changed my mind to sit inside, the server referred to my group as "these people" before correcting herself to "this group." As a customer, being referred to as "these people" felt disrespectful and inappropriate. I felt it was highly disrespectful to be called "these people". I was a customer. All of us were customers. My group of 5 then all immediately noticed that the tables all around us were set with candles, silverware, and napkins. Ours was not. We had to ask for everything, even water. When you combine this with the fact that we were also seemingly the only Black Americans in the establishment, and that as I walked pass staff didn't give me a smile or a greeting the way they did for every other table, it really stood out to us. We still had a lovely dinner, spent over $230 and left a tip. We were still royally disrespected and treated like we were not wanted and did not belong there. There was an undercurrent of racial tension and we were all very clear that the other guests were receiving far friendlier and attentive service. I will not be returning and I will be writing a review on all platforms, as well as in my travel agent network. I really hope that you will take this to heart and make changes. There is no reason for anyone to feel like this in any public place. I would encourage you to use this opportunity to reassess training and customer service at all levels. It's been eight years since I was last here and the changes in the place are quite impressive. The place is gorgeous. One of the only wineries here in GA that rivals many in California as far as appearances go. It's a very French looking place. Someone obviously spent a lot of money constructing this edifice. We ate in a large room with a floor to ceiling set of windows overlooking the vineyards. It would be difficult to do better. The menu is remarkable with quite a large variety of choices. Everything from a burger to some substantial steaks. We both chose the Elk dish which consisted of three huge chunks of Elk meat (It looked like popsicle ribs for lack of a better term) these were approaching an inch thick and probably were more than 1/3 pound before cooking... that was covered with a slightly sweet savory pomegranate sauce sauce that added immensely to the experience. The Elk was atop a bed of polenta that was nicely seasoned. All served with a medley of cooked vegetables. The meal was absolutely delicious. Our waitress suggested two wines, and offered a taste of each, which is something that you seldom see - a definite advantage of eating at a winery. She was quite attentive and was conversant and informative about the various grapes and wines made on the grounds. Later we tried a tasting of the other reds that we had not already tasted and picked up several bottles of our two favorites. Our waitress also served us at the tasting which was in a large and very comfortable room with a fireplace. Last time I was here the reds were all brought in from various other locations. Now all the grapes used in making their wines are grown in their vineyards. We went on a Tuesday afternoon and didn't get there until about 3:00. Evidently they serve lunch at any time. I'll start off with how beautiful this place is. It's probably the biggest winery I've been to in Georgia. As a photographer, this is backdrop heaven. However, as wine lover and customer, I really wasn't that impressed at all. So, the winery was closed off for a wedding...you guys have all this property and multiple buildings and multiple fields with vines....why are you closing off your winery for a wedding? This is a pretty popular spot to visit and your restaurant and bar cannot accommodate the amount of people on a Saturday that stop by to visit. I asked the person that was standing in front of where the winery entrance is where we can go, they told me I can go upstairs to the "overlook" of the winery and the field and I can go downstairs as well. I went upstairs and I'm pretty sure I walked through a private party and no one stopped me...then I walked to the basement level...pretty sure I wasn't suppose to be there either because I look over to my left and it looked like a bridal suite and someone and their family was in there getting ready. The lack of signs and restriction was a bit concerning. If I was the bride that was in the bridal suite, honestly, I would be mad about my privacy being invaded like that to the public. I think it would be in best interests to your customers to have a completely separate area just for weddings, because the entire property is gorgeous. Another thing that really turned me off to this place was the bar. The guys you have out there are honestly a joke and had poor customer service. I wasn't impressed with what I experienced and I feel like this winery is overhyped. One glass of wine was $37 and honestly, that is expensive. Other smaller and nicer wineries cost $11-$15 for a glass of wine. I had their 2024 Chardonnay and I honestly thought it was on the sweeter side. It wasn't crisp and refreshing like most. read more

Our party of eight had a reservation for dinner awhile back to celebrate two family birthdays. My aunt, newly moved to Dahlonega, said Monteluce was considered to be the nicest winery in the area, and indeed, the grounds & building were beautiful. However, our dining experience couldn't have been much worse. Things started out ok, with several bottles of wine and appetizers being ordered. However, there was little follow-up to see if we needed refills or more wine. Among the eight of us, the dishes we selected included lasagna, pizza, linguine, bolognese, etc. The food overall was fairly okay. Nothing special, but no real issues. The service, however, was horrendous & honestly inexcusable. When the food arrived, one person's dish was missing. When we asked our server to follow up, she said she would check, but never returned. 15 minutes later and still no update, so we asked to speak to the manager. The manager went to figure out the problem, but then we see the server & manager talking and rolling their eyes as if we were being unreasonable. The manager finally offered to comp the missing meal (which finally arrived about 15 minutes after the other 7 of us had finished), but there was never any sort of explanation or apology. In general, they seemed completely apathetic about the customer experience. I definitely would not return unless I knew there'd been a complete overhaul of the management staff. read more

We were able to try and taste some of the wines before we made our decision, they were very cordial that way I tried four then settled on my favorite. The lunch well it was great, we had a fruit and cheese variety , I had the French onion soup "Wow" cheesy good. Followed by the rib eye steak very tasty. A bit pricey but we were prepared for it , worth the enjoyable time . and it's beautiful up here. read more

The service was impeccable as well as the ambiance! Please, do yourself the favor and visit this location, even if it rains! (It's just as gorgeous!) The food was a good pairing to the wine that we had. I'm from out of state and this was such a beautiful treat before heading home.
