I have never bought anything that I didn't love at Montana Plains Bakery. My go to every time is their quiche Lorraine. However, expensive, but is of a quality that has been elevated almost beyond measure. I could go on and on, how good the bread, the pastries, and sandwiches are. This is by far, my favorite bakery. This is a husband & wife owned business, he works the front and she cooks. Our sandwiches were absolutely delicious!! We ordered The Steve panini & The Chicken Salad Sandwich. My favorite bakery in Lynchburg! I have visited several times since moving to the area. The workers at the front are incredibly friendly and conversational, more than anywhere else around! I know that everything is made fresh daily because they often have yesterday's supply heavily discounted (which still taste incredible, too). My favorite is their cinnamon rolls! I love that they rotate different offerings, so there is always something new to try. After being well-acquainted with their pastry items, I recently tried going for lunch and was so impressed. They use homemade bread, and the increased quality is easily noticed. They were even willing to make me a grilled cheese that was not on the menu, similar to the "Spicy Goodness" but made to be vegetarian. I was so grateful, and the sandwich was absolutely delicious! Exactly what the stars stand for... "Meh, I've experienced better." It seems like a nice rustic place for good quality baked goods, which anyone should be happy to pay for with the prices they have on there.... But quite sadly, it wasn't. There is an array of things that you could choose from, but I've only experienced their lemon meringue pie and chocolate brownie. Lemon meringue pie - Yes, there was lemon, yes there was meringue, but where was the "Oh, that's good, I'm going to keep eating it" type of feeling? The meringue was fluffy and just the way I liked it, with a nice delicate "chew" or hardness on the top where it was baked or "brulee-d." The lemon part of it was lemon-y... but it tasted unusually sharp, and sorta canny. The culprit (in my head) was the lack of fresh squeezed lemon juice from actual lemons. Chocolate brownie - This was good... it satisfied your chocolate craving, but again, there wasn't anything too spectacular about it. It's a down-home brownie with chocolate frosting on top. It was big, and it seemed like it was making up for what was lacking in "BAM-POW" flavor with its size. Based on these two items, they offer mediocre baked items with an above average price. read more

There is always hot coffee brewed, and usually 3 different kinds. It is quick service and they don't mind warming up your order. There s not usually a long line or wait. The place is very clean and warm. I go to get a treat or usually go there for gifts for family and friends. Cons: not a great place to sit down and eat. I went to the original store, located about 15 minutes down the street, to find out my GPS had taken me to the wrong location. I backtracked and found the new, quite lovely location in a seemingly new section of Lynchburg. It is located in a very trendy, upscale area of town perfect for this establishment: Wyndhurst. Upon entering the store, I noticed how clean and modern it was, all the while being greeted by very friendly staff. I took note of everything--the refrigerated section contained delectable treats of all types ranging from beautifully prepared strawberry salads to pies, cinnamon rolls dripping with icing, and a variety of large cookies. At the end of the row I noticed several rows of beautiful cupcakes, and it was then I knew I was in for a real treat. Lindsey, the manager and baker, offered me a seat while bringing out the baked goods she wanted me to critique. She brought out several cupcakes, cake pops, and two 6-inch cakes, each appearing exquisite sitting on a silver tray lined with a doily. I tried them all, enjoying the array of flavors and textures, in between sips of milk and lots of note taking. One important aspect--they make everything from scratch using natural ingredients, and it was apparent to my taste buds that they were quality ingredients. Although everything I tried was top-notch, my personal favorites were the Coconut Cake Pop and the Rosewater Cake. I had two different takes on each one. The coconut ball had a buttery/gooey sort of texture accompanied by the crunch of raw coconut, which went very well together. It had a rich custard flavor which immediately placed it into the comfort food category, one which would uplift a mood. The Rosewater Cake stood out on its own, creating a bit of a daydream inside my head. The cake was beautifully simple, decorated with white rose infused buttercream and a few petals. I could imagine eating this delicious cake, flavored with a light rosewater essence, with my girlfriends for afternoon tea. The cake was light and not too sweet. The amount of cake and frosting per bite was perfect, not leaving my tongue coated with sugar for the next bite. This cake impressed me. A lot. Montana Plains Bakery has this cake flavor available for cupcake orders and special orders. It is perfect for any girly get-togethers, including bridal or baby showers, bachelorette parties, or Mother's Day. It is great for any time you would like a non-ordinary but absolutely delicious cake, which for some of us (I'm clearing my throat here) is 100% of the time. Montana Plains Bakery also serves up breakfast and lunch, and creates seasonal treats. I hope they call me back this fall. I am eager to experience their autumn cake flavor line. read more
