Yummy is understatement. All kinds of homemade pies sold by the slice or whole pie. They will make your flavor with 24 hours notice if you want a guaranteed favorite. They also have sandwiches.

Let me start this off by saying that I FELL IN LOVE with this pie shop, as soon as we walked inside. Service- Impeccable! If you know what it feels like to be around your elder family members and they speak to you with such a welcoming, open arms voice. This is what I got when I opened the wooden door. We were immediately greeted by the family who owns this historic cafe! There was a display of homemade pies for you to chose from and two chalk boards that held what's on the menu. We were waited on right away and they had such great patience as we explained where we were from and we didn't quite know what we wanted. Ambiance- After traveling thru the winding mountainous hills of Monroe, Va., Amherst County, we pulled up to the cutest little corner cafe with two wrought iron tables outside under an awning for shade. We opened the door and heard a bell ring from the knob and instantly I had a nostalgic feeling that would leave me in awe. There was so much history in this Pie Shop that started out as a cafe and a gathering place. It was originally owned by James & Mary Fannie Woodruff. The daughter who now operates it as the pie shop along with other family members make this shop THE MOST Special place we've visited while staying in the area for spring break! Food- OOOOOO MMMMM GGGGGG! We came for pie but ended up ordering sandwiches along with the pie. We just didn't get any pie but they had an amazing idea that I've never seen to offer a sample pie, which consisted of 6 slices of any pie you would like to try. They rebuild the slices into one whole pie and let me tell you! When you taste that pie, you are in for a treat!! These aren't just regular pie slices, you can tell the love for crafting such greatness! It was so fresh and oh so good. Our sampler consisted of strawberry, blueberry, Dutch apple, lemon meringue, pecan and pumpkin pie slices! Summary- it was a beautiful scenic route to this family gem that I am so happy to have experienced. I highly recommend this pie shop where you not only get fed pie and great food but you get a little bit of history along with it too. Bonus: this pie shop was featured by Al Roker of NBC for recognizing Mrs. Mary Fannie Woodruff celebrating her 103rd birthday back in 2019. There are also features in the Roanoke Times paper. Just look them up and pay a visit or two. They'd be happy to see you and excited about your business.

All of the other 5 star reviews say it all. This place is famous for a reason. We came here on the recommendation from the campground where we were staying. Got the sampler with 6 different pie slices, and every single one was amazing. Service was absolutely outstanding, and this might be the cutest shop in the universe. Just go and get you some pie (and maybe sandwiches).

I found out a few weeks ago that although I'd love to, it was not necessary for me to come all the way from California to Monroe, VA to get some good, home made pie. You can now order and have a pie shipped! So, today all the way from Woodruff's in Monroe, VA my piece of heaven arrived. I must mention the packaging and wrapping was insanely secure. Like it was a bar of gold inside. And as good as it taste, it's worth a bar of gold. Don't put it off! Don't wait any longer! Order your bar of gold today! And on a personal note, Woodruff's Cafe and Pie Shop has a nostalgic spot in my heart. My mother Dorothy Oliver and her siblings all grew up nearby the Woodruff's. Several years ago when I took my mom back to visit family, we drove out to see the old farm and made a stop at Woodruff's. My mom enjoyed her chat with the family that was in the shop that day. Little did I know that that would be the last time my mom was back where she grew up in Virginia. Sure am glad we made that trip.

This little corner stop is a gem! The selection of sandwiches is small, but the selection of pies is broad! Their lunch options consist of a chicken salad sandwich (served on a toasted wheatberry bread), an angus burger, and a hot dog. All are served with Route 11 chips and a pickle. We ordered the chicken salad and the burger (plus cheese). The chicken salad was simple but tasty. The burger was tasty and the roll was soft. Both meals were under $8 and totally worth it. We also ordered two slices of pie. The chocolate chess was like a delightfully undercooked, dark, rich brownie in a pie shell. The three berry had a crunchy crumb topping with a bit of nutmeg that added a nice warmth to the flavor. Highly recommend either. They had about half-a-dozen options left that afternoon, so we will be back to try more!

The ladies here were incredibly nice. The country store atmosphere is also cool--and this is an iconic spot that Al Roker and other notable folks have visited, far outside Lynchburg on a country road. The pie was just okay for me though. I will clarify that I bake a lot of pies myself. So I expect great pie when I pay for others to make it. I wasn't impressed with the selection in the afternoon because it seemed they had sold out and not replenished many things. You can buy slices or whole pies here. The sweet potato was quite tasty, similar to what I make. The others were just...good pie. Not bad but nothing incredible. This is a spot to visit if you like and can, but don't break your itinerary to get here.

After hearing about this black-owned pie shop in a Washington Post article, I had to make a trip. If you live in NC, this is the perfect day trip. My mother and I drove from Durham, NC to Monroe, VA (outside of Lynchburg). We placed an order for two whole pies in advance. We also ordered slices of pie to go. We tried pecan, coconut chess, buttermilk and sweet potato. They were all so good. You can really taste the love. The sisters were so nice and welcoming to us. They shared some of their family histories with us. We will definitely come back!

We love, love, love Woodruff's! The sandwiches are tasty, and the pies are absolutely delicious. And the staff? So friendly and gracious and lovely, you'd think you'd just been adopted by a really nice family. The first time we went, I thought, 'This is like one of those tiny hole-in-the-wall gems you read about in Southern Living, but never actually get around to finding on your own.' Flash forward a couple of years, and lo and behold, I was reading Southern Living, and there was Woodruff's, in a list of must-see's. Awesome. If you're visiting Morris Orchard, note that Woodruff's isn't all that far away. After a morning of picking fruit, or heaving a bushel or two of apples into your car, don't you deserve a nice slice of pie on the way home? Yes. Yes you do. So go.

Good food, great people, and some of the best pie to ever pass through my pie hole. Make sure to say hello to Mama!

I will immediately assume that within awaits a superior Reuben, a potato salad with the peel left on, and possibly a slice of pie made the day before. Anything less, and I mean anything, is unacceptable and very well might ruin the rest of my day. But this was not that. Upon entrance I did have concerns, as it has a contemporary cafe-ish feel. The lighting, decor, etc. might initially lead one to believe they can order some bland panni and continue with their day. Do not be mistaken. This feels like the home of someone's grandma (sidenote: "Lola" is the combination of the two owner's names, Logan and Lauren) with the aroma floating through the air like a "dinner's ready" call from the front porch. There was no hesitation in my order; Reuben and potato salad. The marbled rye, corned beef, Swiss cheese and sauerkraut, with the house made dressing...oh such a work of art. The potato salad, why did I order a small portion?! It was delicious and served by some of the kindest people I have ever encountered in the food industry. If the weather permits, I highly recommend the outdoor seating. And I which I could give insight on the desserts, but alas the sandwich and salad did me in. Next time, next time for sure.
