Came in for late lunch about 3pm. Ordered full ribs with fries and baked beans. The fries were hot, almost too hot to eat. The beans were too hot to eat right away. But after the 2 cooled a bit they were good. The ribs came out slightly higher than room temperature. They were NOT fall off the bones. They were dry and tough. I would recommend the atmosphere and the staff but the food left me wanting to go to swiss chalet instead for their ribs. Food is food so i ate most of it however it was a struggle. read more

We had a pitcher of Budweiser to start, that came pretty fast. Should note the pitcher is glass so it's pretty heavy, but it certainly makes the beer stay cooler longer and has higher class feel than plastic pitchers. It was busy but still not every seat was taken. I ordered the tasting size of the ribs, but half rack(regular) came instead, so the order was taken wrong. As the food was taking a long time to come, I've decided to keep it. I wasn't sure if I had the stomach for the corn bread at the end but it was so good, so stuffed though. My friend ordered 7oz steak rare, it came almost medium well, they had to remake it which took a long time again. The saving grace was the hot sauce. The habanero based hot sauce was actually hot and not too sour. We both bought a bottle home. They were giving my friend a discount because of the steak, but they couldn't get the bills right, so after the 2nd try, we've decided we'll just pay it and settle ourselves after. The kitchen that day was definitely overwhelmed. It's not often I go to Hamilton area, so probably will not visit this location again. read more

ribfest is mediocre. our waitress was really nice. I ordered two alcoholic drinks which didn't have any alcohol in it from what I could tell. I'm sure I won't come back here if they are skimping on the alcohol. Go somewhere else for a drink. This place isn't it. Came here for Sunday lunch. Service by Claire C was excellent, but it went down from there. This location needs some maintenance. A bench across from us had a ripped seat. The tables are covered with this miserable "oilcloth", probably to hide the fact that they are aging and not being maintained. My chicken burrito bowl was very good but my wife's fish & chips was not. The fish was relatively tasteless and had too much batter which was uncooked in the middle. It was also a much smaller piece than shown on the menu. The cole slaw specified on the menu was missing. Between this experience and another bad one at Montana's on Paramount Drive, we're done with Montanas for now. read more

I really recommend this restaurant it is a great place for a meal the servers(Ryan, Sarah, Mike) are so nice and go out of there way to make sure your happy. The Smokehouse Wrap is so good a little well done is the best so delicious. The burrito bowl and Chicken tacos are also my favorites. Wednesday is Rib night all you can eat yum yum. First time and last time here. Not sure if they are short-staffed or what. I came in late when my friends already got here, and we waited 15 min till she noticed. Food sticker on still on the green pepper in the salad. Forgot to bring us side fries. Then the server came three times asking if we need to pack the food when we were still eating and talking (I mean, I still had fries in My mouth). I've purchased take-out many times from this location and have had a good experience. However, this time I purchased two pulled pork sandwiches with fries and had a TERRIBLE experience. I got home and ate the fries and discovered they were mouldy. I'm pregnant and can't eat mouldy food. My husband's fries were also mouldy. I called the restaurant to let them know so they throw out the last batch of fries to spare the next customers. Instead of the manager thanking me for letting them know, and apologizing for making me pay for mouldy fries, the manager repeatedly called me a liar saying that the fries could not be mouldy as they were fresh cut. (However, this makes no sense as fresh potatoes can get mouldy too.) She was rude and disrespectful and displayed poor customer service skills. I spend hundreds of dollars at Montanas every year, but because of how I was treated by this woman, I will no longer be spending my money at this location. I want to like Montana's, I used to love Montana's. Unfortunately over the past few years this place is gone downhill rapidly. Although this is a review for the specific Montana's I will say that the quality among the whole chain has seem to go down in the past few years. We came here for dinner the other night because we have been given a gift certificate after a few past experiences we hadn't been here in quite a while. So we had hoped that maybe there would be some changes for the better. We found there were changes but they were not necessarily for the better. My husband and I both ordered the same thing the brisket sandwich I got mine with a Caesar salad and he got his with a house salad. The brisket sandwich used to be a delicious pile of thinly smoked sliced smoked meat and what we received this time were several inch thick chunks of brisket over seasoned and not cut properly and haphazardly smushed between a bun drenched in bbq sauce. The salads were pretty sad to my Cesar was literally drowning in dressing to the point of not being edible. Which I would've been happy to share with the hostess had she bothered to swing by our table. Our food arrived we ate and didn't see anyone until our plates of been sitting at the end of our table waiting to be picked up for about 15 minutes. It was actually so bad that we debated just going up to the front to pay as we hadn't seen anyone since placing our order, other than the unfamiliar staff member who dropped off our meal. It wasn't even close to busy so I really can imagine the excuse for the lack or service. In summation Montana's used to be a reliable place where you can go for a decent meal at a fair price. Now the prices have skyrocketed the food quality hasn't made up for the rise of prices and the service has gone downhill. I won't be coming to Montana's anytime soon any locations including this one until they upped their game. read more

We had an extremely rude waitress (Caitlin)! The restaurant wasn't busy and the waitress continued to ignore us. Not refilling any drinks or clearing the table. At the end of the meal she asked if we wanted dessert and we responded yes but talked among ourselves on what the item will be. The waitress (Caitlin) walked away from us as we were telling her the item we wanted. In the end we left without dessert and gave a poor tip for the worse service we've ever had. read more

This used to be my absolute favourtie place to eat. I used to come here at least once a month with my boyfriend and ordered an appetizer (different most of the time) and 2 orders of quesadillas every time we went. My order was to have no chicken as I am a vegetarian, and my boyfriend's meal DID have chicken. Imagine my surprise when my quesadillas also had chicken - almost every time I went there! It starts to get annoying when they can't cater to someone with such a simple order. I am not asking for tons of extra ingredients, I asked to eliminate ONE. Anyway, that started to get annoying and that is where I began to lose interest. However, I still gave them a few more chances as the food still tasted great. Unfortunately two of the times that my boyfriend ordered the chicken quesadillas, he found BONES in his food!! We complained both times this happened and were told both times that this is not common (obviously, right?) and they apologized profusely and made it up to us by one time giving us a free dessert and the other time, by taking the meal off of the receipt. I will admit that when Montana's Cookhouse does make a mistake, they do a lot to help fix it/make it better. Another time I went there, we waited 40 minutes in our booth before anyone even came to our table. We were seated right near the hostess and the front door and kept looking over there to try and show that we were there, waiting to be served (yes, we were seated by her and they knew we were there... maybe they forgot!). After about half an hour my boyfriend went to the hostess and told her we had been waiting for 30 minutes and nobody had even come to our table to hand us a menu or take our drink order. The place was less than busy. Finally about 10 minutes later someone finally came, apologized, and started the ordering process. My final straw was when I went out for a celebration with my boyfriend and once again, ordered the same chicken-less quesadillas. The first time the meal came to me, it was burnt beyond recognition. I didn't even take two bites before I decided it was inedible. I kindly asked for another one as it was burnt to a crisp and was told "No problem, let me just get you a new one!" After waiting longer than the first time around, my boyfriend was already done his meal by the time mine came (I told him to go ahead so his food didn't get cold). This time the quesadilla was on a whole wheat piece of flatbread (I didn't ask for that!!) and it was so soggy it made me gag when I picked it up. I didn't complain again as I hate to be "that person" so I just ate the appetizer and didn't touch my meal. The girl came over to me and asked if there was a problem and I said yes, I told her that my quesadilla was so wet and soggy underneath that it literally fell apart when I picked it up. She did apologize and offer a new meal but I refused. I was so utterly repulsed by this disgusting meal that I didn't even have an appetite after seeing it. (That's right! Their nasty piece of work actually caused me to refuse free food!) That was the last time I have EVER been there. Montana's Cookhouse used to be great. The food (usually!) tastes awesome but lacks in effort a lot of the time. If you are looking to have some drinks with friends and grab some pub grub than this place might be a good option. But if you are going out for a fun night with a significant other, or a family dinner, I would definitely steer away from the Montana's on Upper James. I am not sure if there is new management, owners or cooks, but something is different and it's not for the better! I don't want to speak for all of the Montana's Cookhouse's as it used to be awesome - I loved it there! But the one on Upper James (the only one I had ever gone to) is actually extremely disappointing more times than not. read more

We always go for the all you can eat ribs on Wednesdays nights. The pork ribs are great with the Texas Bold BBQ. Always have excellent service too. The waitress is always on top of our order making sure the next rack of ribs goes on before we are done the first ones. You can also take you what you don't eat which is not the norm for all you eat places. The price is high as it is 27 bucks for one person so go hungry. Our bill with a man mug of beer and all you can eat ribs works out to about 80 bucks (2 people). Always a great experience there read more

We recently visited Montana's on Upper James for dinner (the evening of Jan 15). When our food came, we didn't have any cutlery. After unsuccessfully flagging down our waitress, my wife went up to the counter to get her attention. Later she came by to check to see that we "got everything that we ordered". She never did return to check to see if the food was okay (it was, by the way, the food was awesome). After our drinks ran dry, we again were unsuccessful at flagging down our waitress. Oh well, another trip to the counter. This contrasts to how our waitress treated the table beside us, which was occupied by four young men that seemed interested only in sampling the quality of the liquor. They seemed to have little trouble in flagging her down. Near the end of the evening (90 minutes later) my wife had to go up to the front again to ask for a desert menu. The kitchen did an awesome job, but unfortunately the cocktail waitresses that Montana's had hired haven't a clue about food service. This was our only trip to a restaurant where we failed to leave a tip...ever. read more

Having worked in the service industry for many years I have to say this was by far the worst dining out experience of my entire life as well as the rest of the people at my table. I had just moved to Hamilton and went there with my family......Where to start....Everything went wrong and when I say Everything I mean EVERYTHING! The restaurant was not busy at all and we arrived at a earlier hour for dinner we had to wait 15 mins for our table... ok no big deal there probably just short staffed....We then were walked to our booth with dirty dirty sticky menus thrown on the table... we waited close to 15 mins before we were ever acknowleged..again restaurant not busy at all maybe 8 tables....6pm... seen lots of staff....Finally we ordered. Our drinks came another 15 mins later my dad and grandmas tea were ice cold and they messed up our sodas....another 25 mins goes by and someone comes to our table I informed them on the mix up and they said they would bring hot water for the tea and new drinks (never happened ever) 10 mins later they bring one entree out and no one elses's we were a party of 5...My grandma had to eat her ice cold meal alone...... 15 mins later they brought 2 more out and 10 mins later the last 2 entrees...uhhhh arent tables suppose to eat together??? ...Every single entree was ice cold and missing something on it or just straight out the wrong order....at this point I asked to speak to someone as no one had ate or drank and we had been there well over an hour....The waitress said a manager would be straight over 15 mins later she showed up I was very kind in my complaint to her but at this point it was getting redicioulous....She took all our entrees back and swore we would recieve our drinks and proper orders..(hot) in no time and she also would bring us few extras to try...this never happened ever. Our meals came back out again 20 mins later again cold and wrong orders...seriously??? We never ordered anything difficult....we were all so disgusted in the lack of customer service I woud think being a chain restaurant they would have stantdards and formal training on the staff and management..I told the manager I too worked in the service industry for many years and was appalled. She comped 2 out of the 5 meals....that we never really ate and offered free dessert for all....She also gave us a $50 voucher to come back....No one in my party wanted it we all laughed you couldnt pay us to return.... read more
