Stayed at the Days Inn, so walked across the parking lot to Montana's. The service was a little slow, but our server is training another. It appears this place needs some staff, so we are OK with that. The food was very good - hubby loved the beef rib (which you seldom see in any BBQ restaurant, except Austin, TX) in our experience. The food was really weak, I've ordered from here a few times through delivery and every time there has been missing items or the food has just looked downright disgusting, this time it was both issues. I ordered 55$ worth of food and they gave me disgusting ribs that have meat on half or less, they forgot my side and all of the sauces aswell. If you have food allergies avoid this place at all costs! If you don' have food allergies also avoid this place too. Nobody goes here and it's obvious why. The food is garbage. You can't put comments to avoid ingredients, they don't have allergy friendly options, and do not carry the ones they supposedly do. We paid extra for onion rings and were given literally 4 onion rings. Burger was possibly microwaved. The obviously fake reviews on here are also hilarious. read more

My wife and I spent a weekend in Thunder Bay. A spontaneous road trip for us. Out looking for a restaurant that is moderately priced, we came about Montana's. Restaurant is themed with the great outdoors decor. Staff were friendly and quick to seat us. Entry way is a bit cramped, but the lines moved quick to seat us. We were seated at a high-top by request and our waiter was wonderful. He looked like David Bromstad from HGTV. I ordered the chicken fried steak and a Coors Light. My wife ordered the ribs and a Molson. Both beers were served COLD and were wonderful. Our dinners were absolutely wonderful too. Fresh, hot and tasteful. My wife lived in Texas for years and said they were good ribs. That's says a lot!!! Way better than the ribs we had at Rib Fest in Thunder Bay the other night. Our bill was brought to us and we were pleasantly surprised, as we paid more for a breakfast that was mediocre at a different restaurant. read more

This is your standard Montana's, so you know what you're getting. The staff look like they are all university students, pretty friendly and reasonable service. I had the 11 oz ribeye, which was cooked pretty much as requested. It was a good cut, though it should have been trimmed of some of the gristle and fat. the shortrib poutine is an interesting variation, with a rich beef sauce and chunks of rib in it. The wine list is low end so you won't break the bank there. Overall, this is pretty standard chain fare, nicely done. read more

I spent some time talking to the manager at Montanas about the issue I had with the food. She said that the other manager should've taken the price of the steak off my bill. I think part of the problem was the server had already printed out the bill so he did not have much leeway. Anyway I will be getting a gift card for another meal, which to me is a positive conclusion to this situation. As a side note that particular steak is not on their new menu. read more

We were visiting Thunder Bay for the weekend, we are Americans. We found Montana's and I thoroughly enjoyed it. We had been to Ribfest in Thunder Bay the day before and had bland ribs and bland brisket. I am picky, I lived in south Texas for several years. I had the ribs with the Texas bold sauce. Wayyyy better than the bland Ribfest ribs. The Montana's ribs were much smaller than at Ribfest, but tasted better. Had ribs with a side of coleslaw(TINY SIDE, -1 star) and delicious beans. And a Molson (when in Canada, even if eating American food, must have Canadian beer). Our waiter was outstanding. Always there, attentive, and funny. This would be five stars on service alone but the dip-cup sized cole slaw threw it off. read more

Drove into Canada to drive to the sleeping giant and do some site seeing forgot about the hour time change so got back to Thunder bay starving and looking for places to eat at 8:30 and could not figure out why most everything we were trying to eat at were closed then realized it was an hour later so it was actually 9:30, well then it was trying to find something other than fast food that was open so we came upon Montanas, well good thing we were late otherwise we would have never knew how wonderful this place is... got two appetizers then we figured we would eat that and then share a dinner.... well, the appetizers were so huge, and delicious no dinner for us.... will will be back here again, wish we had more than 5 stars.. read more

Hmmmm....after long day of travel we want d something warm. It was close to hotel so we gave it a try. Sat at high tops and waited 12-13 minutes before server acknowledged us. Food was decent but pretty salty. Mac and cheese was excellent. Overall, a typical sports bar feel with bbq flavor. read more

My husband and I visited Montana's Thunder Bay tonight for dinner around 7. Asked for a table on the bar side and given a buzzer to notify us when a table was ready. After 10 mins or so it buzzed and we were told they had a table on the restaurant side. We go back to the bar to wait, even though there were 3 tables open on the bar side. 25 mins later we've finished our drinks and they've seated new patrons. The waitress finally asks if we want another round and we voice our annoyance stating we've been waiting for a table to have dinner. She states "well did you follow up with the host?". Umm I didnt know it was our job to follow up with the host. No apology. Please improve on your customer service, we will be taking our business elsewhere. There are many great restaurants in Thunder Bay and we normally enjoy Montana's, but after tonight will not be coming back. read more

Rolled in here at 11:45 pm on a weeknight after a marathon drive. The kitchen was supposed to be closed, but they let us order, which was awesome of them since our hotel believed it may have been the only restaurant still open. Ordered the chicken and waffles and I was actually really surprised. Maybe I was just really hungry, but they were friggen delicious. I visited Montana's with a friend. I had the Chicken Waffle Club Sandwich, which was good. My friend had some tacos that were dressed with a cilantro sauce. The tacos came with a side salad. Prior to placing the order, my friend asked the waitress if the taste of cilantro was mild or strong, and indicated she did not items that had a strong cilantro taste. The waitress assured her the flavor of cilantro in the dressing was subtle. It wasn't. My friend could not eat the tacos and indicated to the waitress that the taste of the cilantro was too strong for her. The waitress spoke to her manager, who only offered my friend a 50% discount on her order, as she had eaten the small side salad first before moving on to the tacos. I can't recommend a restaurant that treats its customers in such a manner. read more

Went for a birthday dinner on a night where the restaurant didn't seem that busy. We were seated right away but some people at our table were just getting their apps when others had their entrees comig out. 2 people ordered all-you-can-eat ribs and the service was SO slow for them... most people were finishing their meals when the sever finally asked if a second or third plate (which were very small) of ribs was wanted. We were literally paying our bills while the second plates of ribs were brought out. Made for an awkward and uncomfortable experience. Also the children's meal portions are SUPER tiny. read more

Very disappointed in the service tonight -- waited 5 minutes watching a steak get cold because all the steak knives were dirty and on a kids eat free night we ordered two full meals for two little guys and full price which was fine but we asked for the popcycle that comes with the free kids meal for the little guys and our server said sure but we had to pay for them .. I came to Montana's thinking I was only going to get typical food found in the US. I was wrong. I received a great Canadian experience while there between the poutine which was delicious I might add, but also their wonderful dessert. I would also like to mention the fact that you could color on your table. We knew what our waitresse's name was because she pit it on our table so we wouldn't forget. (Kristine, as I recall). I had been to Montanas before a year ago and nothing's changed. I had their "signature ribs" which were extremely dry and repulsive along with shrimp that was cooked to shit and dryer then the sahara desert. So we are from Brandon MBA and go to Montanas regularly. Generally purchase 7 oz pre cut steak at $14.99 and very satisfied. Today in Thunder Bay Ont. we decided to go for the gusto and pay a lot more for their so called 50 day aged beef. My wife ordered the 10 oz version for $24.99 and I ordered the 7 oz for $18.99. Gre antes they were busy but meals took almost 1/2 to be served while all around us were getting their ribs, natchos etc. Finally meal came and it was "just warm". Granted we ordered steaks rare so we expect them to be not hot but cool .. should not have happened ! My 7 oz was thick like a filet but thank god they brought a big steak knife because there was a band of sinew that required considerable effort to cut through... tough,tough. My wife's 10oz was somewhat better but far from tender like the $14.99 precursor steak. Listen, the Keg was right across the street and I know I could get a great 8oz Prime Rib for $29.95 ! Consider the Keg before choosing Montanas or stick to the $14.99 steak. In retrospect we should have sent the meals back but time was a factor and we couldn't wait another 1/2 hour or more for replacement. Oh and the waiter dropped by to ask about food and didn't even listen when I tried to express my opinion. He just said "great" and moved on...???? read more
