The beer was good. They offered the local lager which was quite good. Coconut shrimp was food. After that, there isn't much to recommend. The place was empty on a Saturday night. That should have been our first clue. The fish batter was OK. The fish was also OK. The tartar and shrimp sauce were nothing to write home about. The coleslaw was basic. My son couldn't eat his fish tacos and this boy lives for tacos. The broccoli as my daughter side was steamed perfectly, but very, very bland. If you're looking for a place that is mostly mediocre and does not surprise much, this would be the place. read more

I found this restaurant on Yelp. So we tried it. Not too impressive on the inside, but the menu said the fish and chips were excellent. We ordered one of cod and one order of Joey's special. Wish we had both orders of Joey's fish and chips because they were outstandingly delicious!! Best I've ever had.. batter was light and tasty. We decided to stop at Joey's Seafood mid day for a late lunch. The restaurant was quiet and the server quickly brought was drinks and recommended the Novemburger sandwich. It was amazing! a haddock filet, lightly battered with a Cajun seasoning, chipotle mayo, rocket lettuce, tomato and a delicious ban. The chips were crisp and hot. The server shared with us he was the creator of the sandwich. He was very pleasant, the food came quickly and the service was fantastic! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! read more

Super friendly staff! Went in for a late lunch and the place was virtually empty. Our waiter found out we were from the US & talked to us about the Joey's that used to be there. I told him that the reason we were there was because I used to frequent one of those restaurants and loved their fried shrimp. My BF had the lobster melt & I ordered the shrimp & fish combo. This restaurant feels much more to me like a simple diner than a seafood restaurant. You get to have some of your favorite comfort foods (gravy and chicken on garlic toast or fish tacos) but the overall experience feels very home-sy and "low-budget". I mean, the food here is certainly not cheap but it ain't no Red Lobster (worldwide chain). I found that the fish tacos were too cold and flavorless.. akin to fast food quality. That being said, at least the salad was fresh! Maybe I would come back for the deep fried haddock alone but I'm definitely not inclined to ordering the tacos again. read more

I have to say that they cook the best shrimp. I don't like the new basic fish they have as it tastes fishy. Their fries are so so and I prefer the mashed potato's. They have a big variety if you enjoy seafood. Great service. read more

On a cross country trip discovered one of Winnipeg's fav fish and chip place had a Thunder Bay location. Located in a strip mall, plaza near a really busy intersection, the place has windows looking out to the busy parking lot. There are a selection of tables and booths with a closed kitchen running along the wall behind the entrance. The place was busy with an older crowd inside and lots of take out orders. The menu is the same as those in Winnipeg. Had the basic fish and chips with sweet potato fries. While the fish was a little greasy, the fries were great. The service was fast and polite. For anyone craving all things fishy, check it out. read more

As a trucker I get the privledge to eat @ many places! I'd say that Joeys "famous 3pc fish and chips" is affordable, @ just $13 and amongst the best I've tasted! Service was quick and server was enjoyable to talk with, prompt and pretty which is an asset :D the restaurants ranks a+ for cleanliness I will be back! Someone from the Maritimes, I am used to good seafood. Well Joey's does a very good job at presenting a high quality product. Then menu choices are enough to salivate even the most novice palate. The fish is fresh cooked and served piping hot, with a good deal of Golden crispy fries. The Coleslaw is nice and fresh, crisp and refreshing. I will never eat at this restaurant again. I can not believe this place has one positive review. I went to this brutal restaurant yesterday (June 24th 2016). And I ordered fish and chips. It came with a small container of coleslaw, some fries and two of the SMALLEST pieces of halibut I have ever seen. And it cost me $26. I didn't even get a drink with my order. UNBELIEVABLE!! I felt like I had been robbed. I will never go back to this restaurant nor should anyone else. Please....PLEASE avoid this place. I've never taken the time to write a review about a restaurant before going to this awful place. That should tell you how underwhelmed you will be if you decide to make the same mistake I made by walking through the doors of this establishment. I always forget about this place when I'm looking for somewhere to eat. The few times I have gone however, I always have a good meal. The prices are reasonable for seafood too. The last time we were there our meal came in like 5 minutes after we ordered it, at least it seemed that way to me. Most places you complain about how long the food takes but here it was the exact opposite. Good food, good service, and reasonable prices. These are the things I look for in a restaurant. Friday was our first trip to Joey's since the new menu. I had the Cajun Combo. The fish and shrimp were juicy and spicy, and the service was friendly and fun. The restaurant is busy, and our table wasn't very private. Still, I enjoyed the food and would recommend the restaurant.
