The breakfast was pure heaven!!! The ham sandwich is where it's at. Thick cut ham? Yes please!! The shaken coffee was perfect. We got a donut sampler to go. So far tres leches is the winner. Sooooo disappointed! I went today to buy a bunch of things for friends as a surprise AM Christmas week treat .. also friends with COVID. I've never been here before -- there was a large "EXIT" sign that I acknowledge and parked to enter on side. I walked in (door was open) to the back area. So I asked (** mask on of course!) what was presumably the owner or manager (dark blonde female, mid-30s, 40s maybe?) "so sorry! Where's the entrance?" And she literally was the rudest person ever! Treated me like I was covered in rat feces! "Umm we're closed" "you need to leave" "you're not allowed back here!" Holy cow woman! I didn't know you were closed? I followed your "EXIT only" sign and came to other entrance with a door open ... All you had to say was "so sorry, we're closed today. We open Wednesday..." maybe a "so sorry you didn't know..." or "please come back so sorry we can't help you today" -- nothing. So beyond rude. Lock the door man?! Have a sign on the door that says "employees only" or "entrance around side on Label St. etc" I'm soooooo beyond disappointed. 100% will not ever patron there if this is who I'm giving my money too? I'm just blown away at the level of disrespect and dismissive tone to a customer who was clearly lost and apologetic. Unreal. read more

One Word: DONUTS! This place offers thee best donuts ever! The quality is superb and the freshness is unlike no other. I've tried most of them and they're All so good. Recently, I picked up three dozen for my bridal shower and they were a big hit. Some of my favorites include the Maple bacon, birthday cake, Nutella, Boston cream and the vanilla bean glazed. They also offer "seasonal" donuts. For Easter they had a donut that was topped with cream and coconut shavings. It has been one of my favorites thus far. Went here Saturday for the 1st time and it will be the last time. I got a chocolate donut, Apple cider donut, and scone (I forget what kind). My biggest problem with this place is the girl that took my order and placed my items in a bag and container was wearing plastic gloves, but then she took my money with the gloves, went into the register to get my change, and I purposely waited to see if she was going to change the gloves for new ones and she didn't, she picked up the next person's order with those gloves and put it in a bag. I was disgusted and should have just thrown my food out or honestly just asked for a refund at that point. I ended up trying everything reluctantly. The only good thing was the scone. The donuts were very dry and the only good thing about them was how they looked. This place is over rated and unsanitary. I think they need to retrain their employees about proper food handling. read more

Love the laid-back, bohemian vibe here. Have Easily over-ordered when original intent was just to get a tea and a small treat! Greatly friendly staff and everything looks delicious and home-made! Favorites are the carrot-walnut-raisin muffins, the spinach-feta or ham-cheese pastries (are they croissants?) and salted-caramel chocolate tarts. Thick, Dark-chocolate, gooey delights... Or if kept refrigerated and just slightly thawed, perfectly smooth morsels of salted chocolate caramelness :). Loved the gold foil leaf on top. Elegant looking! Cute place, just recently expanded and I love it! Ordered 4 doughnuts, (Tres leches, Apple cider, Glazed, and Strawberry Shortcake) to take home and my family loved them. My absolute favorite was the apple cider doughnut because of the simplicity and mild sweetness. I'm not a huge fan of overpowering sweetness, so the other doughnuts were a little heavy for me. That's just my preference, but my family couldn't have enough. I prefer the simpler classic versions. Much better than DD, can't even compare.. Although these run a bit pricey it's worth it because they are always fresh and delicious. Lovely staff always willing to help and always smiling, that's super important as well! First time here. Montclair Bread Company is soooo good, it's totally worth 30min drive from my place. Pecan pie was amazing. Pie crust was made with puff pastry and pie was not too sweet because pecans were not caramelized. It was a pretty large pie, but we finished the whole thing in under 24hours lol. Sourdough bread was also amazing. I would definitely come back to try apple cider and boston cream donuts. read more

There are not enough kind words for this place. The selection and service have always been something that exceeds expectations. And now, the work they are doing to help the community in these crazy times. These are people that should be celebrated for their craft on every front. I came to them when I needed a curb side pick up recently, my fiancé and I have gone to them for almost every holiday we host or attend. I have been going here for a long time now. I understand that times have changed since COVID, but I waited an hour for my order. The website should prepare you that they are only taking online orders -- didn't find that out until I got there. It should also explain why you can't buy donuts individually but only in packs of 2. The donuts are always good, though I wasn't able to get the ones I wanted. Also I wasn't sure if some of the donuts were actually available but not on the website upon listening to an employee talk to another customer. The bacon on my BLT was burnt and the toasted bread could've broken a tooth. It seems quite disorganized there, which is a shame because a few changes could help them have a more seamless operation. Hopefully they are able to figure out how to make this work a little bit better because this is a pretty good spot. I'll probably avoid going here for a while. read more

I've been going here for years, and I just love it so much. The coffee is always lovely. Every donut I've ever had (even kinds I wasn't sure I would like) I have LOVED. Their bread is absurdly good. I've gotten the French Batard and the Sourdough. Both are fabulous and the sourdough is actually a part of my daily diet now. All other donuts are ruined because Montclair Bread has the best donuts I've ever had. The food and coffee here are fantastic, and everyone who works here is so lovely and kind! I had brunch down the road and decided to stop by to pick a few pastries. It was around 2pm and a few things were either unavailable or sold out. I picked up the almond croissand and a tres leches donut which was $4! I do love donuts, and I'm willing to dish out $4 for amazing donuts (doughnut plant, dough) but I think this place missed the mark. The donut tasted like something I could get from dunkin donuts and felt jipped of my $4. The croissants were decent but nothing special. read more

I really really really want to like the food here. I don't get the draw? The donuts are awful, the coffee is like colored water. The coffee is probably the worth I've ever had .. that includes instant. I've tried 5 different times, friends have brought these flat, hard tasteless things over.. I just don't get it. They are pricey too. I saw a few comments on the staff.. I asked about a yogurt product, the gal pointed over my shoulder to a fridge and stood behind the counter. There was no one in there but me. Breakfast sandwich is tasty. I had Taylor ham and egg on ciabatta. Bread is great, two slices of Taylor ham and the egg is fluffed. The fluffy egg actually makes it a little difficult to eat Bc it's too tall, and too much squishing makes the egg crumble. Had the brownie m&ms doughnut. Toppings are good, body is a little bready and chewy which is really good except too much dough and once again difficult to eat. I actually have a pretty big mouth so I don't know why I was having so much difficult eating these items. Montclair Bread Co did not disappoint and they sell out it their doughnuts early. This is my first ever yelp review for a reason because I was soooo disappointed in this place as it was my first and last time going here. I bought four donuts and the first two I've eaten so far were I hate to say absolutely horrible. The first one was extremely dry as it had a chocolate dipped top with potato chips, peanut butter, brownies etc. Unfortunately it was Flavorless even with all those toppings. The second donut I only half way finished a few minutes ago was a Boston creme donut. It was literally the worst Boston creme I've ever had. I've had grocery store Boston creme donuts 1000x better. The big reason is that the cream wasn't really creme anymore. As you can see in my picture the "creme" congealed into this mass with the texture of spackle instead of the expected velvety texture of properly made Boston creme. Really cute place tucked away off of busy Bloomfield Ave. The place is small but don't let that fool you - they are serving up really great quality stuff. I ordered a Taylor ham, egg and Brie on a multigrain roll and was pleased with the clean quality of the food. I had to stuff more food in my face so I washed it down with a maple bacon doughnut. Perfect amount of savory and sweet. One is plenty though. The doughnuts were going fast (it was National Doughnut Day) and a ton of people were squeezed in ordering bread, sandwiches and various beverages. Picked up two donuts a maple bacon and fruity pebble and both were delicious. The size of the donut was too big for me to consume in one tasting I had to eat them in half and I saved the maple bacon for another day. The donut still tasted very fresh and light a day later. The store has a great exterior seating area and parking which I would come back for as well. we were here this morning, maybe 9-9:30ish. service was fast and friendly. pricing is fair. we got a glazed, apple cider, maple bacon & a fancy chocolate donut. here's what we thought - 1) apple cider - disappointing & least favorite. it was dry, chewy & tasteless. the coating of sugar did nothing to help since the donut itself had no taste. 2) chocolate - dry cake donut had too much sweet toppings. donut overall was surprisingly not good. 3) glazed - generously sized donut, had a really good bite and a nice glaze coating (second favorite). 4) maple bacon - (favorite) good sized donut, nice pleasant bite & just the right maple glaze & bacon topping. now that i've experienced, wouldn't go out of my way (like we did this morning) to go back. however i would definitely go back if i'm in the neighborhood just to try a different donut and/or sandwich. read more

Super friendly staff, warm and inviting store front, surprising donut varieties - this place is a food tourist's dream! But it's the cheese and chive scone that will bring me back again and again. They are a bit pricey -- $39 for a baker's dozen plus a cup of tea and a cup of coffee. Then again, this ain't exactly Dunkin Donuts. Such a gem of Montclair. This factory style bakery sells fresh breads and also some sweet treats. I stopped in for two donuts yesterday and was so pleased with the environment.
