I am so glad my friend told me about the store! I walked inside and felt like a child! The owner was very patient to introduce me to all the different pies. I ended up bought a steak ale and mushroom pie, an Apple raspberry and blackberry pie, and numerous chocolate and candy. As I left I saw the scones. The owner gave me a strawberry scone on the house. The steak pie was so good. For $27 it had tons of meat inside. The sauce was just perfect. The scone was heavenly. I didn't even put butter on it. Will try the apple pie tomorrow. Oh goodness! I just bought the steak and ale pie home to my family and it was DELICIOUS. I am from London, so I have the credentials to say this is legit, and something you'd find in an upmarket gastro pub in the London. The steak was so tender, the pastry was crisp and buttery, and the gravy was flavorful and had a great consistency. I already have a sneaky plan to invite friends over for a home cooked dinner and serve this as my own! It is such good value because you can feed 4 people on one pie, which was about $25. I'd serve it with some potatoes in the air fryer and some peas and you have a comforting and easy "home cooked" meal. This is so helpful to have this place on my doorstep. read more

Just discovered this place a couple of weeks ago & can't get enough. Think we've been there 5 times already! Steak & Ale pie is out of this world. Gourmet sausage, lamb & feta, Shepards pie, madras, all killer. And the strawberry scones...oh my. There's still so much more to try & we can't wait. The only downside is that we are now spoiled! Over a decade ago, the owner (Samantha) literally thanked me when my husband & I purchased a number of items from her store as Christmas gifts for our family. The store was located on Bloomfield Avenue in downtown Montclair then. I gathered that there was a cash flow issue and our purchases helped the owner become more liquid. Fast forward to around 2016/2017ish when I went to her shop, now located in Watchung Plaza in Montclair. Samantha made comments about Catholicism as I shopped. It made me very uncomfortable as it seemed to be directed at me. To this day, I wonder why she was so unprofessional when she talked about Catholicism and religion for no apparent reason. I am an Asian woman & progressive who has been harassed by racist, lying white women in Montclair, Cedar Grove, West Orange and Verona, NJ for years. These women have had to resort to lies, bullying and harassment of innocent people. It saddens me to think that Samantha believed these racist liars because her sausage rolls were good. This pie shop is small, but it's almost everything I'd want my pie shop to be. It's cute, they carry both savory and sweet pies, and most importantly, the pie is damn good. Any pie consumer knows it's all about the crust, and theirs is perfectly buttery and....crusty. My group of friends had just finished lunch and wanted dessert, so we scanned through the sweet options, picking between key lime, apple, and cherry. Apple was the winner-- the only downside of this place is that there is no seating and they don't heat up the pies for you. We were just driving through the area and on our way to a show, so we just took the pie to the park across the street and scarfed it down there. Even without getting it heated up the pie was phenomenal. I can only imagine how good it would've been otherwise-- also with a dollop of whipped cream or ice cream. Someday I'll return to take a pie home and eat it properly. Still, this pie shop is doing important work making the people of Montclair happy with delicious pie. read more

Got two premium sausage pastries and they were really good. Pleasant, mild flavor and the flakey pastry surrounding the sumausage was primo. 5/5 Main reason I went here was to snag a key lime pie because it's my GF's fave. Followed the directions for the medium size, which was to leave out of the fridge for an hour before eating. Unsure what went awry, but i left it out for 20 minutes and that seemed to make the pie disintegrate. Tasted OK but I think it could have been better had it remained a solid mass. 3.5/5 read more

I made the short trek to Montclair with a friend to taste these delicious-looking pies. The shop itself is really tiny; you might be able to fit about 12 people shoulder to shoulder standing inside between the pie case/cashier station and the handful of shelves displaying British pantry supplies, snacks ("crisps" aka potato chips), and sweets like Cadbury's, Jelly Babies etc. There's no tables, so don't plan on eating in here. Back home, I followed the instructions the saleswoman wrote on the box and baked the pie for 25 minutes at 350F. It was deliciously packed high with apples, not the usual 1 to 2-inch-high pie. The (HUGE) Cornish pasty is the best of both worlds: a flaky pastry-like crust with a delicious savory, creamy filling of ground beef, potatoes, and carrots (and I think a bit of a gravy). TPS is a bit pricy, but very good and a unique option in our local restaurant scene. read more

I was delighted to find the Pie Store with their treasured offerings of flaky crust enrobed treats. Highly recommend the very British savories which included sausage rolls (succulent and flavorful), lamb and feta, and steak pasties (rich!), chicken madras pie (perfectly seasoned), and spanakopita (earthy). Buttery, crispy pastry abounds and oh so thoughtful proprietor who identified each packed item and hand wrote reheating instructions. Dropped by this small bake shop on the way home after a hiking trip during this warm fall weekend. The place was busy with a line out the door. The staff was super friendly and helpful with their own instructions on reheating pies by writing it on the box I ordered the small Key Lime pie. It was received frozen cold. It was one of the better Key Lime I ever tasted. It's best to eat when received but if not they recommend freezing it and eating it 10 min after. It was on the tart side but delicious bite after bite. Crust was a great thick crumble that balances the amount of topping. In addition, I also ordered the ABR pie, (apple, blackberry, and raspberry). The crust was good; buttery and not dry. The fruit filling was very tart. The apple was a little too sour for my taste. Overall, I had a pleasant experience and will definitely go back again to try the savory meat pies items. read more

The key lime pie was absolutely fantastic! Would definitely recommend. The Apple pie also had nice crust which I thoroughly enjoyed. The sausage roll was a tad disappointing as it was an actual sausage wrapped in pastry as opposed to the usual ground meat. Nevertheless it was still nice. My fam and I enjoyed the key lime pie. Not your typical pie. It's frozen and you let defrost an hour before serving. It was almost like a sorbet in pie form. We were in Montclair, driving for our take out from T.S. Ma, a great Chinese restaurant in town. My wife, always the best Internet surfer said, I found dessert ... And she directed us to The Pie Store. Using GPS, we found it easily - It's located in the elbow of an interesting corner on a busy street. I discovered that parking directly across from the store on a side street was safest. Inside the tiny (a word I use rarely) store, I discovered a place packed cheek to jowl with goodies - the cuisine leans heavily to the British Isles. We checked their menu on line and discovered they sold sweet and savory goodies. Since we had a car full of savory Chinese food, we opted for a few sweet options. We got a traditional apple pie, a Key Lime mini pie and a chocolate mousse pie. My wife popped the apple pie in the oven per the instructions on the box to warm it up. When ready, we dug in and my wife immediately declared the crust to be the best she has ever had ... she is not given to hyperbole so you can believe her! The apples tasted fresh and they were well baked too so the pie gets 5 stars. The other two pies were from their freezer (we purchased them before the big holiday weekend) - both had the same excellent crust and the fillings were full of flavor. Two more winners. We are looking forward to going back for my personal favorite - a cherry pie. Their savory pies sound interesting too and if the crusts are as good, we can't wait. read more

The shepherds pie is one of our favorites especially for a special treat on st patty's day. My absolute favorite are the strawberry scones. Definitely worth a try. I have been wanting to try this place and finally got the chance. I called before I arrived to see if they had what I wanted. A really nice lady answered and assured me they did. When I arrived I placed my order and she remembered my call and had my keylime and chocolate pie aside already, which was cool. I paid $9.10 for both pies and left. When I got home I was dying to try and tasted both. The keylime pie was so tasty but I didn't care for the whip cream. The chocolate pie was ok. It was very fluffy but just ok in taste. The Pie Store should be renamed Pie Heaven! So far, I've had the Apple, Chocolate Mousse and Key Lime Pies. In the summertime, I don't even defrost the Key Lime from the freezer. I just love it as frozen treat :-) All the pies have the purest of ingredients.The crust is incredibly fresh. I brought an Apple pie to a 4th of July BBQ in NY. What better than an Apple Pie on the 4th of July!!!Everyone loved it and asked where they could buy it. Of course coming from Jersey, I've been now nominated to bring the pies :-) The pies come in Small ($4.25), Medium and Large Sizes. Pies can be pricey, but soo worth it! I have only tasted a key lime pie once about a decade ago & was warned that it was an acquired taste & it wasn't my thing... perhaps because it was likely a Shoprite version (not that there's anything wrong with their bakery! :P But I was in rush trying to figure what was a green treat to get for a St Patty's get together and found this place nearby because of a pretty picture of their somewhat green themed key lime pie, it looked cute with its whipped cream topping so I went for it... I decided to call ahead just in case it went out & glad I did! When I arrived, there was a line! And for the people who pre-ordered were initially told to still wait in line. It didn't budge quick because protocols are 1 person/1 group one at a time inside. I probably waited a good 10 minutes until a worker started pulling pre-orders out of line & assisting with completing payment which was great instead of waiting more, in the least! I wondered why it came is such a big box & when I peeked, I was so0o taken away! There is so0o much whipped cream in gorgeous swirls with HEIGHT! Check out the HEIGHT! My favorite aesthetic of it! Such a gorgeous piece of pie! I fell in love with it & hoped it tasted just as go0od and BOYYYYY did it! I crave it till this day. Deff got that tangy limey flavor with a kinda cream-cheesy blend, not too sweet just right And the crust is so0o go0od. We LOVE this British themed place & the tea shop one store over. They are affiliated, I think. The people are very nice there. We get the scones, pies both savory & sweet. The best pie crusts that I have ever tasted. It's perfect. All the pies that we tried are wonderful but I need to go back and try some more. Tried the Chocolate mousse & Key Lime so far. There was a savory pie like the British workers would take for lunch. I had the one that's a North Carolina style barbecue and loved it. No utensils needed. The section of British food products is interesting. I enjoy the British cookies...erm... biscuits. I will have to try that Marmite that I hear about. It's a love or hate thing, I believe. I have to give one star because they answered the phone, nothing more. I attempted to order four pies "to order". The woman who answered, I don't believe she was the owner from what I remember, asked me about ten different ways "you want it warm?" I repeatedly said, " I want it freshly cooked....hot" and if they had time to make them on a Sunday. The people I was giving it to are elderly and want only a freshly cooked pie. Couldn't get an answer and was asked "Don't they have an oven?". I have been to the pie shop many times and although the quality has fallen, I still enjoy it. Blame it on mind games. Or better yet, 'mind the gap.' You see, I've been having sudden flashbacks of riding the London Tube bloody ages ago: I was visiting a friend and every day we cobbled together what we'd call 'Tube picnics,' consisting of sandwiches and prawn crisps from Marks & Spencer, aka Marks & Sparks, which we'd nibble on as we rode to our destination of the day. Whenever we heard the automated 'mind the gap' warning, reminding Tube riders to be careful as they entered and left, it triggered a Pavlov's dog effect in the form of giggles. Don't ask me why. That trip and a couple others after etched a permanent spot for London in my heart. So you'd better believe l'il ole anglophile me is chuffed this sweet, sweet shop exists. I've been here a few times now and the pasties have been good to great. The flaky, buttery crust is so consistently spectacular, I think I could make a meal of that alone. The fillings are quite nice, too, with vegetarian chana masala packing the most flavor among the ones I've tried. Chicken & mushroom is a winner as well. Lamb & feta could've used more of the latter, but still mighty tasty. Tried a berry scone that was pretty darn scrummy. Drove several miles to Montclair, just to be disappointed. The place is super tiny and stinky. The key lime Pie I bought was exorbitantly expensive. It was a frozen pie and not a fresh baked. I thought it would be warm out of the oven during this cold winter months when it is snowing outside. They pile 6 times the height of the pie with rich( not in a good way, maybe greasy is the right word) with whipped cream. We waitied for 3 hours for it to thaw . The pie itself was like eating a butter stick dipped in lime flavored sugar. It was so gross that all of us now formed an aversion to key lime pies and this store. Pie to cream ratio is somewhat like 1:100 Worst pie. If you are looking for a pie that is less greasy, has a better balance of whipped cream to pie, tasty and fresh, I suggest trying a different bakery. read more

What a terribly snobby and rude attitude whomever answered the phone here had. We simply asked if they did curbside, since we have a high-risk cancer family member and we can't enter any store during this pandemic. The person who answered said "NO, NO" in a rude way as if we had asked for their first born child and seemed incredibly offended. There was zero need for the attitude when a simple polite answer would have sufficed. Most businesses who care about keeping their customers and employees safe are doing curbside since there is less risk of exposure, especially during Delta. Get with the program. And if not don't be jerks about answering a simple question. We would have done crazy business here in the future given I am British both year round and for holidays but they just lost a customer. read more

I love you my sweetie Pie (Store). I was lucky enough to try most of the sweet pies on their menu. All of their pies are excellent, but if I were to rank it based on my taste, here's the list: 1) KEY LIME PIE - my favourite. The tartness of the lime balances the creaminess of the filling. This one doesnt have the upper crust. The bottom is a graham cracker crust. The filling is peppered with LOTS of lime zest. 2) DOUBLE CRUST RASPBERRY-BLACKBERRY-APPLE PIE - If you like fruity and tart flavor, this is a good one. it has the same great crust as the apple pie. 3) DOUBLE CRUST APPLE PIE - generous portions of apple slices. Not too sweet. Sugar crusted, doughy crust tasted fresh and crisp. Would be excellent eaten with a dollop of light whipped cream. 4) CHOCOLATE MOUSSE PIE - If you are a chocoholic, this one's for you. It has a graham cracker crust. I thought the flavour was good but I thought this is a little monotonous after eating 1/4 of my slice. 5) COCONUT CUSTARD PIE - It is a surprisingly light pie. Sprinkled with toasted coconut flakes. 6) BANOFFEE - banana, caramel, whipped cream. It's a great combination, but I'm not a caramel person.
