If you're heading to Temecula, Monte de Oro needs to be on your itinerary. My husband and I drove down from LA to celebrate my birthday, and this stop was easily one of the highlights of our weekend. We came to this place on the Saturday after my official birthday which was good because my palette was fresh and ready to try new wine. They have been open since 2010 and they The property itself is gorgeous, but the coolest part is definitely the main tasting room. They have this massive glass floor where you can look straight down into the barrel cellar. It's such a unique vibe and makes for amazing photos. And on this day you can even see the set up for a wedding they were having later on that day. We did the premier tasting flight out on the patio by the water and the wine was fantastic. We also ordered some food from the bistro-the strawberry salad with chicken and Parmesan truffle fries-which had great portions we really didn't even need the fries. The salad with the goat cheese went perfectly with the wine we were drinking. A huge shoutout to Matt, the Operations Manager, who took such great care of us. Ok the food here was decent but I felt the service was not great. The nicest employee was Ricky. He made sure we got all the tastings we needed, and he was helpful. The wine was good my fav was the Grenache here. It was 5 tastings here and they had decent wine. The food to me was not that great and overly pricy. I ordered the chicken Caesar and it was very dry and chicken was cooked too long. However, it's very spacious with many seatings and picturesque outside while dining. The reds here are superb and so is the menu. Monte must be going broke paying the salary of the chef. Not kidding. We got the truffle fries...to die for. I ordered the steak sandwich and it was like biting into butter. Honestly. It was real steak but it was so soft and tender. What the heck?!?!?? Monte De Oro is definitely my favorite winery in Temecula! The wine is great especially if you enjoy white wines. They have really good food too and a wide variety compared to most wineries. I also adore the wine glasses and kitchenware that they sell. Everything is reasonably priced. They have live music sometimes in the courtyard. And I don't find it to be overcrowded the staff is very friendly and all the food comes out fairly quick. It's a nice quiet winery. read more

Honestly terrible first impression, made me want to go to another winery. Ended up going to the other side with Rebecca, COMPLETE game changer. It's been some time but my return to Monte De Oro Winery was very enjoyable because the staff remembered me and being a Monday the atmosphere was pleasant and calm which allowed me to utilize my five senses during the tasting. What don't I love about this winery? Absolutely nothing! My husband and I have been members now for about a year and we just love it. They have a fantastic wine selection and it never disappoints. Mary in the members area always greats you with her beautiful smile and always makes you feel special. We have never had to worry about seating and feel comfortable bringing the whole family. Food is good, wish they had a little more choice on the menu, but love the BLTA, and they have a lovely charcuterie board. Looking forward to being members for years to come read more

Friday, June 21: My friend Maureen and I came for another fun evening of Bingo! The weather outdoors was a little warm but as soon as evening hit it was perfect! It wasn't a full house, which was surprising. This time I did not buy extra raffle tickets and held on to the three tickets that came with the price of admission. We both opted for a glass of Muscat Canelli , yummy! I finally was able to call out Bingo and do was Maureen! I can't believe I finally won! Always a good feeling to leave with your hands full! We really appreciate the entire staff especially Madison! She was so sweet & friendly and she handled the wine pouring. Maureen bought a bottle of the Muscat. It was a very beautiful spot, set over a hill with lovely views, but it didn't really have much of a vibe. The atmosphere felt a bit flat, even though the setting was nice. The wine prices were great, which was a plus, but all the food was just basic bar food -- nothing too exciting. The service was very nice and friendly, which we appreciated. Stopped by here on a Saturday afternoon for a tasting and quick lunch. We ordered the poke nachos, truffle fries and steak sandwich. There was plenty of seating outside and the weather was nice. The food came out rather quickly and the truffle fries were the star of the show. My only complaint would be that there was very little fish for the amount of nachos they served us, even if the nacho portion was a bit smaller, it would have made a big difference. read more

We are members of the wine club at Monte de Oro and have been for over 10 years. While we love the winery and the wine, they need to improve on their food service. The food itself was good, we had a chicken Caesar wrap, a Caesar salad, and a pepperoni and hot honey, and goat cheese pizza. They were all tasty. The problem was the service of the food. For the third visit in a row, the food came out separately. So the salad came first, and then 10 minutes later the chicken Caesar wrap came, and then when both of those were finished, the pizza showed up after I checked in with the cashier. Our last visit was eight people. And each entrée came out separately. This was embarrassing because we brought our friends to enjoy a nice lunch at the winery and I was embarrassed at the service provided at our winery. I don't write many reviews, but I am hoping the management at Monte de Oro reads this review and looks at their servicing of the food. We don't mind waiting for our food, but we would love for it to all come out at the same time. read more

What an amazing experience! We arrived on a Friday, about two hours before closing, and while it wasn't too crowded, the bar area was definitely cozy. But the incredible staff made up for it right away--our group was greeted with warm smiles and prompt service so we could jump right into tasting. Ken and Mary were absolute gems! Their fun banter and wealth of knowledge made the whole experience so entertaining and engaging. They truly went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. And Riley? He was fantastic! His tour was packed with interesting facts about the winery's history and the winemaking process, and he made learning so much fun with his kindness and enthusiasm. This is one of our very favorite Temecula wineries which has it all - excellent wines and food, super friendly servers (especially Becca!), a gorgeous tasting room and an expansive patio with stellar views. We were so impressed with all of the above, that we joined on our first visit. Monte de Oro has become the perfect weekly meeting place for our rather large (14+ people) wine social group. The tasting room is a stunning area to gather in, with a huge palladian window showcasing the soaring views. We usually end up on the beautiful huge patio which is comfortable year-round, thanks to shading/breezes in the summer and heaters in the winter, along with some large tables to accommodate our group. Monte de Oro Winery is one of the better vintners here in the Temecula Valley wine growing region. Temecula is still very young and is absolutely not in the coastal wine growers league... Santa Barbara and Palos Robles are much larger and successful. But Monte de Oro has some nice wines, that have won a variety of awards, which makes coming here much easier on the palate. Tastings run $20 for six and $30 for nine, including three of their "Reserve" wines, which we found to be very good. See photos of wine choices. Penny our pourer and sommelier, was friendly and very knowledgeable. We also stayed for a late lunch and bought a bottle of their sweet rosé (photo). The view here at this winery is absolutely stunning! I'm not really into their wines, but I saw a lot of people purchasing bottles of wine here to take home. I think the food is really delicious (made with tons of butter!) but the prices are outrageous, sadly. $20 for pretzel bites and a side of cheese (that really didn't seem like real cheese but more of a fake cheese dip) although it was delicious. The meatballs were about $23 for about 3 of them. To be a wine club member, you're looking at at least $400/year for the less expensive package. Have to give this place 5 stars! We came here for wine tasting and used the "SIP Passport" tickets. The lady at the wine bar was very friendly and happy to help us. We were advised to pick a table and come back to the bar when we were ready for the next round of tastings. At the point we came we were quite hungry, so we decided to have lunch along with our tasting. OMG the bacon cheeseburger was no joke the best burger I have ever had!! It was a HUGE portion. I loved that they used bacon bits versus strips as it allowed bacon in every bite along with the most delicious jalepeno aioli! The chips were quite tasty as well. As far as wine goes we enjoy most of what we tried. The bottles were reasonable priced and there were bottles available for low and high price ranges. We ended up getting 4 bottles as they were having a "Buy 3 get 1 for $.17" for St Paddy's week. I can't quite speak to the view and location as it was super rainy and cloudy when we came to Monte De Oro, but I'd imagine it would be beautiful on a sunny day and would have loved to sit on the patio! read more

We went to monte de oro for an early dinner. Their system of serving does not work. You order with the cashier, who gives you a number. Then you wait...and...wait...and drink wine of course. You also watch the servers wander around looking for the number, not find it, and the food goes back. Then you ask these servers where your food is...three of them. Then your husband gets his food, eats, and you still haven't received yours. You finally received it, but it's cold. Like maybe it was waiting to be served? My husband's and my tastes in wine vary widely, so this was a great spot to share a tasting--he got his heartier reds that included a Tempranillo (which he bought to take home), and I got my sweet Moscato and port. The location and view are beautiful, especially if the weather is nice enough to sit on the patio. The only downside was just one server for several individuals or couples tasting, so the wait between pours was a little long. Not her fault, and it was a Thursday afternoon so I wouldn't expect a lot of staff--but having a second person on call to pour would have been helpful. I tried this place out about a month ago for the wine tasting menu as well as the charcuterie board. I tried a lot of charcuterie boards and I really enjoyed this one! The wines were great, the vibes were great, and the weather was perfect outside. There's plenty of space on the outside with a great view of the vineyard.
