Good food. 2h long service. You might as well hunt your own food. It will be quicker.

This is the only restaurant in Portugal that asked for a tip. Afterwards I realized they ripped me off because VAT was included in my meal price. Don't fall for the tip is not included, it might be because I am American. My server was on the grumpy side and never once smiled, but I think that is his personality, he smiled for no one. Food: I ordered the pasta with chile, calamari, and shrimp. It was a unique pasta with garlic and tiny amounts of ginger, that played very well and there was like 2 chile rings and then calamari and shrimp. The pasta was cooked perfectly and right amount of sauce that just played well together. The calamari was cooked to perfection as was the shrimp but a few were not cleaned properly but everything tasted good. The chile did have a tiny bite so somebody might think this is spicy but was not for me, finally something with flavor. I did not eat all the pasta because then I ordered the octopus. The octopus was not cleaned properly but the texture was spot on and the taste was great, I added some of my own hot sauce on the side to give it some kick. Odd to have a boiled egg with the octopus, good taste but the green ring indicates the egg was overcooked. Everything was temperature hot and served fairly quickly. WiFi available. I should have just ordered the pasta because that was fantastic! The octopus was okay but took some work to clean. The pasta gives this place a 5. Service and tip with VAT already included would drop to 2. The octopus is 3 stars. But the pasta was the best meal thus far in Portugal.

Service was good but it was the only restaurant I was asked if I want to leave an additional tip, hence place for tourist. There's no need to leave a tip in Europe. Hubby's Birthday Dinner - we celebrated my husbands birthday in Portugal this year ! I was so happy…read moreto see that Yelp had a presence in Portugal so while planning the trip I started book marking all the cool exciting places I wanted to check out ! Sooo I was so happy to find Restaurante Mar Do Inferno! It had gorgeous views of the Atlantic Ocean and the best seafood ! We made our reservation online before leaving California. It was easy and had an English and Portuguese option. We arrived and once we got there we were greeted warmly and seated quickly . There were all these fresh seafood options that you could pick from in live tanks ! Service was top tier !! Our waiter was funny and very entertaining! He warmed up even more as the evening progressed! We had the best view of the sea and ambiance was lovely ! We ordered the seafood platter - langoustines, lobster, prawns, sea bream, potatoes in a garlic butter sauce !! Everything was SO FRESH!! So delicious !!! Great wine selection especially European wines and cocktails too !! Hubby loved it and we definitely will come back next time we are in Portugal!!

My husband and I chose Mar do Inferno for our anniversary after hearing it was one of the premier…read moredining experiences in Cascais. Unfortunately, it ended up being the most disappointing--and most expensive--meal we've had during our month in Portugal. The experience got off to a poor start. The hostess wasn't welcoming, and when I politely asked if we could sit closer to the window, I was told those tables had been reserved weeks in advance. We had also made a reservation for our anniversary, so that was disappointing. We were seated behind a pillar instead. Throughout the evening, not a single member of the waitstaff smiled. They all looked unhappy to be there, which created a surprisingly cold atmosphere. None of the staff ever came by to ask how our meal was, and no one acknowledged our anniversary. The restaurant itself wasn't nearly as elegant or luxurious as its reputation suggests. Aside from the lobster tank, the décor and atmosphere felt rather ordinary. To make matters worse, our view overlooked a wire fence and a parking area instead of the beautiful ocean setting we had expected. There were also several odd service issues. I ordered a gin martini. They said they were out of green olives, so I requested a lemon twist instead. The drink arrived with black olives and a lemon twist, which was confusing. As for the food, the complimentary bread with the crab pâté was excellent and easily the highlight of the meal. Unfortunately, everything after that was underwhelming. The sea bass was bland and forgettable, and the vegetables were overcooked to the point of being mushy. What made the evening especially disappointing is that every other restaurant we've visited in Cascais has been wonderful. Friendly, smiling staff checked on us, made us feel welcome, and served memorable meals--often at much lower prices. Given Mar do Inferno's reputation and premium prices, we expected an exceptional dining experience. Instead, we left wondering how it has earned such glowing reviews. I genuinely hope management takes a close look at the service, atmosphere, and food quality, because right now the restaurant simply doesn't live up to its reputation.

First off, you need to make a reservation. The restaurant is small and very popular. I was able to…read moremake a reservation for the same day though, because luckily Portugal had a World Cup match that night. We sat inside the cantina side. Our server was adorable and bubbly with a great sense of humor. She did get really busy though toward the end of our meal and it was a challenge to flag her down for our check. With that said, she provided exceptional service earlier. This is the kind of place you want to go to with others who love tasting a variety of dishes. I went with my family who is not into that concept, and so I had to choose just one dish that I would not be sharing, as no one else wanted to share theirs either. Some of the dishes were quite small, but mine was not! I ordered the octopus which was cooked to perfection and had a mix of potatoes and greens underneath. Would definitely order this again! It was one of the best octopus dishes I've ever had. The one thing we did share was the croquettes. They were delightful, but kind of expensive as they were 1.70Euros each and were literally one bite, but a very flavorful bite at that. I also had a few glasses of their summer sangria which I rather enjoyed. I would return here when in Cascais again, but maybe with a different group of people so that we can treat it as tapas as it should be instead of individual dishes. There's so much more I want to try from their menu!

Seafood pasta tasted as if it had been cooked in seafood water, but I think that's the style around here. Croquettes were meh. Pasta special of the day (vegetarian) was incredible. Sangria was perfect. Most of the staff were super friendly and helpful. Overall good, but not somewhere I'd fight to get into considering the number of close by restaurants.

Keep in mind that with the location, view and great food comes a price tag, but worth it if you are a foodie. We started with octopus salad (incredible if you like octopus), shrimp cooked in olive oil and spices, and a half dozen oysters. My cousin's husband ordered a 4.4 lb lobster and loved it. Needless to say, he ordered no sides. My cousin and I split a whole fish cooked Portuguese style with potatoes and some veggies. Waiter brought it whole, but deboned it and served it for us. Service was as expected from a high end restaurant. Decided to go to Belem in Lisbon for nata, so skipped dessert. Overall, if you have an important business deal, a special occasion or just want a great meal, O'Faroleiro will make it special. Cheers!
