Wonderful! We had Pollo Asado and a Hurache, and each had its own different, distinct and delicious flavor profile. The dining room is so bright and fun, and the service was perfect and friendly. Also, their kids menu is a bargain, with beans, rice, and kid friendly entree (quesadilla, bean&cheese burrito, grilled cheese sandwich,) plus a drink for $5. Delicioso! I grew up in Southern California. In my wildest dreams, I never thought I would find a Mexican restaurant to rival some of the very best Mexican food I've had in many many years in Astoria of all places. Wow! I'll make the 2 hour trek to Astoria just to eat there again. Astorians you don't know how truly lucky you are. I had a pork quesadilla. It was easily worth the $10 with sauteed mushrooms, onions and bell peppers along with lots of cheese and juicy delectable pork. It was also served with really good rice, beans, Mexican sour cream and guacamole. The guacamole was perfection, and I could have drank the salsa verde. Even the chips were hot, crispy and not too oily. My partner had the special of the day which was the $8 empanadas with hand made corn tortillas stuffed with cheese, fried, and topped with guacamole. It was equally as savory. For the amount of delicious authentic homemade food you receive, the prices were very reasonable. We could each only eat about half of our meal and took the other half home for dinner. The place is immaculate. My mother would never go into a restaurant if the windows were dirty. Her theory was if the staff aren't cleaning the windows then you know they're not cleaning the rest of the restaurant very well either. My mom would have ate here in a heartbeat. The windows were pristine along with the entire restaurant. The service was very friendly and attentive, and the restaurant is attractively decorated. This was a disappointment. Mediocre food, slow service. Green and picante sauces with fresh chips were good but it was all downhill from there. Instead of chunky shredded chicken in our meals the chicken looked like chunky cat food and had little taste. The service was friendly but once our meals were delivered the server never showed up again to ask about drinks. No dessert was offered. Had to flag her down for the check. $20 for 2 meals and good chips and dip were the only saving graces. read more

Real Authentic SOUTHERN Mexican Cuisine. So nice to find Mole, Enmoladas, Enfrijoladas and Banana Leaf wrapped tamales. These soft corn tamales had the best sauced chicken in them. I loved my enmoladas which they made without meat for me and were so accomadating for that change. If you have a more 'american' palette, there are quesadilla and burritos for the 'tongue weenies' out there. Nice decor and beautiful chairs. Plus, fun huge goldfish to add to your greeting! Yum, yum, yum is all I can say. We were passing through on our way home from Cannon Beach and had a craving for tacos. I managed to find wifi and we turned to Yelp for help. Found this place very easily. When we pulled in it looked a little sketchy. Only 1 table was occupied, which can sometimes be a bad sign. Decided to go for it and I am so glad we did. 5 different tacos all $1.50 each. Tostadas were wonderful too. I wish we could go back tonight! read more

Not the worst in town but i will not be a frequent flyer here. The one great thing is the home made tortillas. If you want something more authentic and not plastic like what you can find in the grocery story (or the other Mexican restaurants in town) then this is the place to go. I would for sure buy these tortillas just to have at home, and at $5 per dozen they know they have the corner or the good tortillas. Other than that the rest of my meal was only ok. The red salsa tasted very powdery as if they had not mixed the ingredients up very well and almost as if they used a chile powder to give it its flavor. The green salsa was very watery but taste-wise the better of the two. I ordered the giant burrito with carne asada and was sorely disappointed in the amount of carne asada that was inside my burrito. I was lucky if I got meat every other bite. It was mostly everything else, the beans, sour cream, cheese, rice, lettuce, and salsa. It almost felt as if I ordered the veggie burrito. My husband ordered the tacos and he was let down by the lack of meat in them as well. All in all the flavor was ok. The meat was a bit dry in my husbands tacos. Very bright and nicely decorated restaurant with friendly service. Having been to Oaxaca I was happy to see some familiar dishes. The food was excellent and very fresh tasting. The salsa that came with the free chips was bright and fresh. The Mole Oaxacena and Enmoladas were excellent as were the Taquitos Doradas, Huarache, Tlayudas, and Picaditas. Yes we were back a few times. Prices are good, ranging from $1.50 for a taco, $2 Tamales and $8-12 for a dinner. They even do breakfast items. Where did these high reviews come from?! Worst Mexican food and awful service. -Tortilla chips were stale -green salsa too salty -red salsa too spicy with no flavor -chicken taquitos: dry chicken, over fried, no flavor -chicken quesadilla: greasy, no flavor -guacamole: mashed avocado with no seasoning, barely a half serving. Waiter never checked on us and brought us the guac after entrees came out. We tried to get his attention several times and finally had to go to the entrance to pay out bill. When we gave feedback that we were not happy with our food, he said we were not going to get anything for free. So incredibly rude and unappreciative of business and having happy return customers. read more

Great authentic food and fast friendly service! The two salsas that came with the free chips were just a hint of great flavors to come. I had three pork pastor tacos with rice and beans. The beans were clearly made there at the restaurant and tasted amazing. My husband had three beef cheek tacos (which he said are even better than lengua) and two pork tamales. The tortillas are all hand made. The whole meal cost $24 and was great! Will definitely come here again. Also the restaurant and women's bathroom were exceptionally clean! We are Floridians. While on vacation and just traveling the NorthWest we decided to stop at Montealban in Astoria driving from Portland to Lake Quinault, WA. We just picked it at random for lunch. We ordered the Nacho's. Probably some of the best authentic Mexican food I've had outside of Texas (Ok, so that is really Tex-Mex.) There was enough for both of us so we are glad that was all we ordered. The plating was stunning. The taste was phenomenal. The salsa verde was mild, the regular salsa was really spicy and out of this world with a touch of mole sauce. Great place to stop. read more
