This hotel is masquerading as a nice hotel but it's not. Lots of things falling apart in the rooms. There we no plug ins on either side of the bed or anywhere in the room! I had to charge my phone in the bathroom. The bed was uncomfortable and lumpy. When we tried to order room service, we just wanted toast eggs and bacon. They said they had no toast, that they had no bread. Very strange. I only give it 2 stars because location was great. But I will NOT be coming back. read more

The wife and I stayed here for 1 night. The hotel was clean and well maintained. The staff is excellent! You'll get a laugh out of this story, but it's true. I had an electric bike I had to bring to my 3rd floor room to charge. The elevators are the old type where you have to open/close the door yourself. This young man that works there opened the elevator door on floor 1 for me. When the elevator started going up he ran up 3 flights of stairs so he could open the elevator door to let me out. Refused to accommodate a reservation made through a 3rd party. And ruined a special weekend for us that we will never have again. Choosing to edit my review to reflect my level of disgust in this heartless hotel. They had the nerve to contact me via yelp. Of course we discussed our situation with the front desk before being tossed out to the street, we even offered to pay an additional service fee in order to keep our reservation and they still rejected our reservation. We spent the next 3hrs tired and exhausted from a long drive trying to locate ANY hotel that had a room available. Needless to stay, we are cancelling our trip to Santa Barbara and my 40th birthday celebrations because of this hotel. I only hope that there are some good people out there who will choose to spend their money at a nice hotel, rather than waste their money on these nasty, nasty people. read more

Stayed at the Montecito Inn for the second time. The first time, our room and bathroom were so small, it was not a pleasant experience. This time, we booked a larger room and it was fantastic- spacious and comfortable. The only minor downside was that room was on the first floor and on the corner so it was a little noisy. But, the room was so nice, it made up for it. The staff is friendly and efficient and the valets are great. Morning coffee bar and pastries are also a nice touch. I spent three nights at the Montecito Inn at the very end of May. It was a last-minute trip that I booked through Hotwire. (I've heard of hotel staff being less accommodating to guests who book through independent booking sites, but if they were less accommodating, I didn't notice. I did book my room for my upcoming trip directly through their website, which I found to be most accessible and convenient.) I wish I had left a review in a more timely manner, as I no longer remember the names of the friendly and competent staff members who were so very cordial and helpful. I don't really care whether or not I'm addressed by name by hotel staff, but the ability of staff members to do so was impressive. My room was small but beautifully decorated. The bathroom wasn't large but wasn't cramped, either, and was very nice. The toiletries were of high quality. The shower/tub combo worked great. Both the room and the bathroom were immaculate. My room was quiet. The air conditioning worked well, as did the TV. The mattress was perfect -- neither too soft nor too hard, and the bedding was luxurious. The continental breakfast selection wasn't terribly impressive, but the pastries were fresh and tasty. I have a trip to Santa Barbara planned for December. As I'll be in the hotel room a bit more on this trip than I was on my last trip, I booked one of the luxury rooms for the sake of comfort and because I felt like splurging. I booked rooms through a travel agency. The travel agency made a mistake and double booked the rooms without my acknowledge. When I called the travel agency they acknowledged the mistake and Ivan at the agency called Jason Copus ,one of the owners of the hotel and told me he had straighened the matter out and that Jason would reach out to me when I checked in. Jason never reached out to me despite countless messages I left him. On the final day,I found him behind the desk and he said he had no time to talk to me but would call me after 2:00p.m. . He never called. I called the travel agent again and they told me they had corrected the issue with the hotel letting them know the agency had made a mistake. They have now charged my credit card for over $7,000.00 worth of charges for the rooms. They have refused to discuss it with me or with other members of the group that were there with me. The operations manager had a one minute discussion with me and said that it was their policy. From my standpoint ,they are dishonest and don't even bother to call you when they said they would and try and resolve the matter. I was constantly told they were dealing with it but they have not done so to date. I will be pursing all options to resolve this matter. If you choose to stay there which I wouldn't recommend,check your bill carefully. read more

We had a reservation to attend my cousin's wedding in October 2020. The wedding was canceled due to Covid and we could not travel from Maryland for the same reason. Montecito refused to refund our room pre-payment or even issue a credit. We will never consider staying at this inflexible, unaccommodating hotel. read more

When I called to the front desk to complain, the response was we have mattress covers. Update. Remember when the manager wrote back saying they found our missing items in the drawer of our room? Well that was a lie as well. No they don't have our stuff and the manager is now stating that they found those items in our drawer before we left our room. "Oh, so you went through our drawers while we weer still there?" I asked. He was stumped on this one... "uh maybe your drawers were open?" "So you looked in our drawers?" "No we found them after your checkout." he changes the story. "Oh, Ok then can you please ship them?" "Well, we don't have them." he says. "Why not?" "Cause they were in the drawer before you left." "Wait." I say. "So which is it? did you find it in the drawer after we checked out or did you go through our drawers when we weren't in the room?" "Well what did you lose?" he asked. WHAT DID WE LOSE? Not bad, not bad at all. Giving the Inn four stars because just 1/4 mile from here sits the Biltmore on Butterfly Beach. Location, location, location...for $169 vs. $500/nt. Suffice it to say, location is about as far as you can go in comparing the two. For the money, it's one of the nicest places you can stay in the S.B. city area. The staff are really friendly...they're almost always college kids. The rooms are small, but cozy. I love that they use real keys. It has that oldy worldy feel to it. I was a little disappointed by the fact that the cafe doesn't open til 11AM and the continental breakfast they had looked a little sad. Bright side of that is we ended up eating at Esau's in Santa Barbara which is an all time fave. Montecito has a deep love for itself. Not surprising as the average cost of a house there is well over $2MM. Lots of celebs...Oprah lives there. There are some great shops and restaurants that you can walk to from the hotel. With the cash you save, you can check out the fantastic Sunday brunch at The Biltmore. Or you can try some of the following tried and true spots: For the ladies: Angel -- great clothes Regular grub: Peabody's Bar & Grill (the food's eh, but it's close) Italian: Pan e Vino or Piatti Steak Lucky's (right next door) Coffee Pierre LaFond Hit up the Bright Angel Bar and/or the Stonehouse Restaurant at San Ysidro Ranch. I can honestly say I have never stayed at a hotel as nice as the Montecito. The night I had with my boyfriend and our friends there was amazing, the suites are loaded with extra touches of elegance that made me feel like I was in some wealthy manor that we got to drink and play in for the night. It's good for all types as this is cutely-enough my mom's favorite place to stay in Santa Barbara. She loves to go to the hotel's bar for wine and happy hour and then go back to her room to be quite and rent a movie. The place is serene and quiet at night. ...Don't worry the rooms are totally sound proof. ;-) I will never forget my own stay here and if I'm ever feeling baller enough to afford another trip back it is definitely where I will be. read more

My husband and I thought it would be fun to stay in Santa Barbara for Thanksgiving this year. We picked the Montecito Inn because it has a Tesla charger, and it looked great on the web site. The location is convenient in walking distance to shops and restaurants. As a vintage property, we expected small rooms, so that was OK. However, our room was very noisy. We could completely hear conversations through the vent in the bathroom. For a fairly expensive property ($400), we were disappointed in the quality of the sheets and comforter linens, too. Tile on the bathroom floor was cracked and carpeting worn. Valet and front desk staff are pleasant. Cleaning staff do not acknowledge guests. The first night we ate in the hotel's restaurant which was very good. Then, we found out it would be closed on Thanksgiving. The hotel's bar was also closed. Luckily, we were able to get a reservation at another local restaurant. The hotel includes a continental breakfast in the price, but it is very minimal. Basically, there was nothing available to eat at the hotel on Thanksgiving after 10 AM. Guest in hotels on holidays are somewhat captive so do expect holiday preparations. The next morning we skipped the included breakfast and walked a few blocks to have a real one. We left the Montecito Inn and probably won't return. read more

Cousin wine tasting trip was complete by staying at the Montecito Inn. Upon checking in we were upgraded from a standard double room to one with two bathrooms, perfect for two girls, woot woot!!! This is a boutique hotel so all of the rooms are different but it seems the hotel has recently been upgraded: AC, flat screens and all new lovely decor in the rooms. There is also a gym and no fitness center fees which is nice. We enjoyed a continental breakfast and off we went for a day of wine tasting and sight seeing in Santa Barbara!!! The Montecito is a charming hotel and great if you want want a nice hotel away from the chaos of Santa Barbara. We were able to walk to nearby restaurants and Butterfly Beach. This review is just for the restaurant and bar. The Montecito Inn's restaurant is surprising. I am usually not a big fan of hotel restaurants. Normally they are too pretentious, or they just plain suck -- and sadly all too often, both. The restaurant at the Montecito Inn however smartly reverses that trend by doing two things most eateries fail to do. It is both understated and excellent all at the same time. No gimmicks, no extreme ambience, and no ego chef trolling the dining room in designer togs. If you are taking your parents out to dinner, then you could not do any better than the Montecito Inn. The food is classic, and very very good indeed. It's nearly hard to imagine that a straightforward steak, fish, or chicken entree could warrant praise, but at the Montecito Inn, they certainly do. Anyone with half a brain and a few years on the line can wow unsuspecting diners with a well constructed plate of fusion architecture. Impressing fickle foodies with classic standby's however, that requires an altogether higher level of skill in the kitchen. The chefs who can serve perfect -- and I do mean perfect -- classic simple entrees, again and again are truly deserving of respect. I have eaten here many times, and have yet to be served anything that wasn't prepared exactly as it should have been. Meats, vegetables, salads, apps, and desserts, all stellar. The service is likewise understated, professional, and pleasant. All in all, the Montecito Inn is perhaps the best calm casual dining place around, and to top things off, the prices are very reasonable too. Stayed here last night. What a disappointment all around. Air conditioner was so loud that we had to turn it off and around 5:30 am it was hot that we decided to turn it back on and I could not go back to sleep for another hour. No pluck on the table next to the bed to charge your cellphone. Furniture was falling apart. The shower spray was so weak. What else can I write!!! This hotel sucks. Went to book a room on line (mid-week stay) FOR MY PARENTS 50TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY and it was $147 for 2 queen beds. Not too bad but I needed to confirm with my siblings. Confirmed and went back to the internet less than 24 hours later and the room TRIPLED in price. WTF? So I picked up the phone and called the hotel to see if there was anything they could do. They said, "No. It's our last room." I couldn't believe it. We simply can't afford the $345.00/night for our parents to stay there. Such a bummer because before this I would've recommended this quaint little hotel, but even after I explained the situation there was "simply nothing we can do" was the response I got. You know what? That's crappy customer service and you obviously don't value my business. Buh bye Montecito Inn. You've lost a pretty loyal regular guest. read more

Incredibly nice staff. Incredibly charming hotel. We were lucky enough to get to stay in room 407, as recommended by a friend. Nicest room we have ever stayed in. Complimentary bikes and great location close to Santa Barbara was a wonderful treat. Complimentary continental breakfast had a large variety of items. Our favorite was the Santa Barbara bars. They were wrapped conveniently for travel if you wanted to enjoy them later. Pool and spa were beautiful. Exercise room is small, but everything was like new. Very nice. There was a lot of attention to detail throughout the hotel. The staff work very hard and they appear to be very proud of this wonderful hotel. Okay, the bad... toilet runs. Just jiggle the handle. This was our 1st year anniversary and I booked the hotel though Hotwire. We came that evening it was was sprinkling very hard. As soon as we walked in, the front desk greeted us immediately. We checked in and he told us about the continental breakfast, bike rental, etc. As soon as we got on he elevator, it was cool, since I have not been on this type of elevator before. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. It was clean, the complimentary breakfast was good and the furniture was up-to-date although the hotel was historical. Just spent a night here with my husband over the long weekend as a quick getaway from LA (two nights in Santa Barbara). The place definitely has character and was in a nice section of Montecito with some nice local businesses on the same street to stroll to. Everyone who worked there was very nice. Pros: -great price (paid just over $100) for a holiday weekend for a standard queen -free beach cruisers -free wi-fi (slow though) -nice selection of free teas and hot water in the lobby (coffee was just ok though, says my husband the coffee snob) -cute bathroom with nice spanish tiles -mini fridge -nice location (but noisy) -quick walk to Butterfly Beach and the Biltmore -charming, especially the elevator which was more fun than functional -nice staff, provided us with helpful maps and suggestions -gave us an early check in at 2, which was nice Cons: -noisy, even in the ''quiet" room they gave us on the third floor facing the street -room fan did not work and an open window made the room too noisy to sleep -tiny tiny tiny room -tiny tiny tiny bathroom -tv armoire door would not stay open so I had to drape the curtain over it in order to watch tv and have it not close...ghetto. -$8 charge for parking, although the valet attendant is very friendly and helpful -pool/spa is not worth mentiong -queen bed did not have enough pillows and was a bit rickety...not the worst bed I've encountered though. Didn't get a chance to try their continental breakfast but we grabbed sandwiches/scones/bagels from Jeannine's up the street which was good. Would we return? Perhaps, but I wouldn't want to pay more than $100 that's for sure. read more

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights and we were extremely pleased with our stay. The Valet and Bell men were very helpful and courteous. We were immediately greeted, offered water, and they helped unload our car. They then met us upstairs with our bags. The room was very clean, but they are still not offering toiletries in the room due to Covid. You can request them though. The hotel is located in an ideal location where there are plenty of restaurants and bars in walking distance. The hotel also offers complimentary beach cruiser rentals which we took advantage of and spent the day riding along the beach and visiting the Wharf. The freeway is really close, but we never heard it. In the morning we called down to have coffee brought to our room and that was also complimentary. The only complaint was the bathroom was pretty small and we could hear the neighbors in there bathroom, but I would suggest upgrading to a bigger room! read more

I absolutely LOVE the Montecito Inn! This is the only place I like to stay when visiting Santa Barbara. It's the perfect location to the beach, downtown, as well as many restaurants/shops nearby. My family & I found the Montecito Inn is lovely. The employees are attentive, our room was comfortable and having 2 bathrooms in our room was especially useful for our family. The windows let in a cool breeze and the ceiling fans kept the air flowing. I sleep like death, so traffic noise did not bother me at all. The Montecito Inn is extremely well located. Its right off the freeway for easy access, right on a road filled with stores & restaurants. Also, the beach is about a 10 minute walk away. I was a little disappointed in the free breakfast, but it was free, so who was I to complain? Overall I really enjoyed my stay at the Montecito Inn and would happily return. read more

Went up to Santa Barbara for our friend's birthday for some beer touring and got two rooms at the Montecito Inn (I think she got some deals with Groupon). We got in around 10:30 am and they end upgrading us to the suites which were amazing!! Essentially two rooms - bedroom with living area and pull-out bed. GIGANTIC bathroom. SO. IN. LOOVE! Very nice place right next to the freeway and a short walk to the beach. We checked in early and it was no issue. Our room was on the corner of the building with two different window exposures. Hotel has a great pool that is very clean with a hot tub. Also, you can check out complimentary beach cruiser bikes! Parking overnight is 8 dollars. Service was really excellent and the hotel celebrates it's Hollywood history very well. I would stay here again for sure. read more

The rooms have a Victorian feel, slightly ornate decor but nothing too gaudy. The bathrooms have nice new showers and tile...you can tell they added all the right updates without losing the Charlie Chaplin-era feel. Lovely little breakfast room downstairs, with full windows facing the street so you can start your day watching the beautiful people of Montecito walk their expensive dogs. The pool/hot tub area out back has a spanish garden vibe, and is a great spot to end your night with a glass of wine and hot date, if you're so lucky. If Santa Barbara is your destination, the Montecito Inn is the perfect little getaway...just minutes from downtown, State St, Cabrillo Beach (though, there are lesser-known beaches just a walk away from Montecito). Plus, valet parking is only $5...a real deal compared to those ridiculous LA prices. This is a quaint little hotel in the middle of a quiet neighborhood. If you like a serene, tranquil hotel without the college party mentality, this is the place to be. The hotel has a charming elevator that is reminiscent of the 1920's and the decor is beautiful. Parking is 8 dollars a night(not bad), but if u want to valet, you can pay gratuity for that service. They also have a bike rental area that they let you rent our at your convenience, for free! Gym, hot tub are pretty awesome as well This town of Montecito is a bike town, so, i suggest using it, but just like other bike towns, the bikers here are huge assholes. haha. So be careful! One downside to a quiet town, everything closes around 10 or earlier. read more

The Inn is like a boutique hotel. The room service food was delish and fast...so that was a huge bonus. Probably my favorite aspect was the BED - their beds are unreal. You will get great rest. But other than that...its way overpriced for what you get. Maybe it's a let's charge high price for being in Montecito..but for what? We had a corner room which was ok size...but with no desk. The bathroom was the size of a studio bathroom...SMALL. As a woman who needs some space to get ready, there was no way possible to get ready in the bathroom - I found myself on the floor with the closet door open - the only other mirror in the entire room. Our room had no views what-so-ever and for $350 a night...you would have thought we would have seen the mountains, the ocean...or even the cute town. If you opened the windows - a reason why a corner room typically is a great stay all you hear was freeway noise. Yes you are on a freeway! So basically for $350 I stayed in a small room, with a small bathroom, having to sit on the floor to get ready and heard freeway traffic. Overall, I enjoyed my stay at the Inn. The rooms were kept up nicely, but beware because the bathrooms are small with just a pedestal sink. Easy valet parking right next to the entrance for $15 a night. The only issue I had was the noise from the surrounding freeway and streets, so beware if you are a light sleeper. read more

Great location ! But sadly there was an ant infestation. Saw them crawling around the bathroom and we came back to the car to a nice surprise. Ants everywhere even inside! My boyfriend treated me with a stay to this charming hotel for my birthday weekend. Everyone was super friendly and accommodating. The Spanish style hotel, built by Charlie Chaplin, is beautiful. Several posters paying homage to the former owner splattered all over the hotel. Arched hallways. Old school elevator. I may be a weirdo for saying this. But I do love the tiles laid in the bathroom. Closed to everything without getting too close to the downtown SB noise. All the usual hotel amenities. Coffee Kiosk across from the lobby. Complimentary breakfast. Adorable and charming gem of a hotel in Montecito. Stayed here with my boyfriend for the long weekend and had a fabulous time! We missed the breakfast and called the front desk. The staff put a delicious breakfast dish together for us and brought it to our room. We tipped the gentleman generously- Service was excellent! Location was great and what a cute hotel with pictures of Charlie Chaplin. In the evenings the hotel lights up and its beautiful. Oh and the food was incredible! Loved the fact that our room had a fan in the ceiling and the bed was high. Can't wait to visit The Montecito Inn on our next trip to Montecito for more wine tasting! read more

Had a pleasant stay here! The hotel entrance is beautiful and hotel staff friendly. The original yet mechanically up to date elevator was an added bonus! I have never been in an elevator like that so it was a nice surprise. There is free water and coffee (the best coffee ever from Kona Coffee Company in Hawaii) all day. Very nice! The pool is heated to a hot temperature which we enjoyed! The hotel was recently renovated and the rooms had great decor! Complimentary beach cruisers were offered as well and this was the highlight of our stay here! We rode our bikes to the boardwalk in Downtown Santa Barbera and had drinks and enjoyed the scenery! The reason for the 4 stars would be that the bathroom is so small no woman can put their makeup on because their is no vanity counterspace.
