I stayed in a suite there a few weeks ago and was highly impressed. The room was incredibly comfortable and full of nice amenities. The coffee bar was fully stocked and much appreciated. The bed was quite comfortable and the bathroom was the largest I have ever seen in a hotel, with a large walk in marble shower and there was also a beautiful marble tub. I wish I would have had more time to take advantage of the tub! The breakfast was perfect and we ate out by the pool. The staff was highly accommodating and friendly. Valet couldn't drive a stick. Night desk staff had no access to any refreshments. Window shutter in room (the tower suite) was broken. I told the hotel it was our anniversary trip and zero stuff was done to acknowledge that. (I realize this isn't a requirement, but everywhere else we stayed had something special for us.) Also, I booked the hotel through Expedia and the deal was a free breakfast included. I was in the area about a month before our trip and stopped by to check it out. I inquired of the breakfast and was informed that the listing was old but "there's going to be a voucher of some sort." Okay. The morning after our stay I asked how the voucher was sgoing to work and was told "breakfast is not included". I produced the paperwork that said breakfast was included. I was again told "breakfast is not included." I explained that someone had told me that there was going to be a voucher; that I had stopped by specifically to suss out problems like this. I was then told "I can't imagine anyone saying that." I don't appreciate being called a liar. We drove to the Ritz Carlton in Santa Barbara and had an excellent breakfast. Made my day. You may want to look into staying there instead. This Montecito Inn is low-rent masquerading as quality. read more

I know it is Two-Star Tuesday, but my experience here was so bad this place doesn't deserve 2 Stars. The Montecito Inn is located right off the 101 N on ramp off Coast Village Drive in Santa Barbara. The hotel is old skool, the rooms are decorated in traditional Mission style, and it used to be owned by Charlie Chaplin. He will likely be turning in his grave after I post my review. My room was nicely decorated. However, it was small, as was the bathroom. The bathroom did not have a tub and did not have a counter to put your toiletries. The entry way to the room is very narrow and you cannot watch the non- flat screen TV straight on. Lastly, I kept on having to re-log on to wifi. This is already a "loud" hotel, and the noise was exacerbated because my room faced the street. I know that my co obtained a block of rooms at a special rate of $169 vs the going rate of double that amount. However, I wouldn't stay here again for any price. In addition, when the valet brought my car when I went to dinner, my car faced Coast Village Drive in the height of rush hour. Then he told me, "You can turn right around the corner and make a u-turn". No muthaf*cker, I'll back car up and exit on the side street, so that I can turn left on Coast Village Drive and go in the direction I want to go!!! Lastly, when I checked out one employee was having difficulty preparing my bill. I said I'll go have breakfast and come back. My bill wasn't ready when I returned. Another employee hands me a bill and it is for two nights, when I only stayed one night!!! When he finally gave me my bill, there was no thank you for staying, et al. $hitty customer service!!! This place earned a spot on my ATJAAC (Avoid This Joint At All Costs) List. If you are in the area, I don't recommend you stay here. The rooms are so small, you can hear everything, and the service is unsatisfactory. In addition, I was claustrophobic just by myself. The Montecito Inn is a landmark hotel located off of the 101 in Santa Barbara. The place is old and claims fame to having being associated with Charlie Chaplain. HUGE KUDOS go out to Steve, who was the main Bell-Guy and service person who set up our meeting room for three days. He was super professional, helpful, and eager to help our team out! I should probably mention before writing this review that I'm a huge hotel Snob. And yes, that's Snob with a capital S. That's what happens when you travel pretty much every week. You want the places you stay to be almost (if not more) comfortable as your very own home. The Montecito Inn is a fine hotel. It's clean It's charming It's got history behind it- Charlie Chaplin built it It has a small, yet adequate workout room It's in a great location- centrally located to many good restaurants/bars/beaches in Santa Barbara I may even give this hotel 4 stars if it was in the $200/night range. $200/night is pretty much what this boutique hotel is worth. However, my hubby and I paid $315/night while in town for a wedding this past weekend. And for $315/night I'd expect * a nicer comforter * Larger room besides the little box we slept in * A larger bathroom with some more shelf space. My beloved chi iron fell off the very small shelf and broke. Sad. * And housekeeping service that knocks a bit later than 8am on a Saturday morning. While I was performing bridesmaids duties on Saturday afternoon my husband found his way to the Four Seasons, which is apparently very close to the Montecito Inn. He said for the price of the Montecito Inn we'd have been much better staying at The Four Seasons. And that's exactly what we probably will do if we ever find ourselves back in Santa Barbara. read more

Coming to stay at the Montecito Inn you would expect something of elegance and quality since it's situated in Montecito with the rate per night on a Sat at $199. I think if it was about $119 or so it would've been more reasonable. The outside of the hotel was nice. It wasn't as nice as some of the other SB properties I've seen but it'll do. Once in the lobby, it felt a bit cramped. The front desk people were very nice, and we got our keys pretty quickly. The elevator took forever because it was one of those older elevators and an inspection that was in May of 08. The room itself was a bit small. Not what I would have expected from a room in SB considering I've stayed at other properties nearby. The rooms feels like they are 100% non-soundproof. I can hear conversations from neighbors or people walking in the halls. It was kind of creepy. The shower must have been built for people that are 5'3 because for a 6'2 person even adjusting the shower head doesn't reach my head. But I do what I got to do. The most irritating thing was that upon checkout, the front desk said I had a bottle of champagne charged to my room that I did not drink. Good thing they removed it or else I wouldn't have been happy with this experience at all. The breakfast was ok. I don't know if I missed the good stuff but when I went they were packing away a lot of items. They have 24 hours of coffee, tea, and some fruits which was nice of them to do. Check in is at 3:00pm and checkout is at 12:00pm. The valet person didn't tell me where he left my keys either so I had to call the hotel since my car is keyless. Such a hassle. I'm not sure if I would stay here again, but if I do, the rates better be below $100. read more

We decided to stop at the Montecito Inn for a night of luxury at the tail end of our drive down the Pacific Coast Highway. It's a long, exhausting drive (but well worth it!) so we wanted to treat ourselves with a stay in the Tower Suite. The website description boasts "beautiful views of the Channel Islands and Santa Ynez Mountains." This is technically true; you can see slivers of both above the 180 degree view of the 101 highway. The downstairs television was broken (despite two failed attempts by hotel staff to fix), the bathtub water temperatures were mislabeled, and the tech-heavy shower displayed a digital error message that maintenance man just shrugged at. It took us a while to find the correct channel on the TV in the bathroom, but it saved the night by allowing us to listen to the college bowl game we so desperately wanted to see. Unfortunately, the TV is positioned in such a way that the screen is barely visible in the bathtub or while sitting on the toilet. In addition to a channel guide, it might be helpful to illustrate where exactly you're supposed to enjoy it. Maybe sitting on the sink? The bubble bath massage tub was one of the room's highlights. The bed was also extremely comfortable (even if the morning views disappointed, as mentioned above). I did also find one of the balconies to be enjoyable when sitting on the ledge with my feet on the Spanish roof tiles (not a criticism -- I enjoyed having my morning coffee here). The complimentary breakfast was disappointing. It had a decent selection of pastries and not much else outside of what you'd find at a cheap, budget hotel. There was no seating available, so we were exiled to the lobby couches despite a large amount of empty tables at the adjacent cafe behind the breakfast bar. The hotel does offer complimentary bike rentals. This was a great and unexpected bonus. The bike ride down to the wharf was the highlight of the entire stay. A small comfort, however, in comparison to all the hotel's other shortcomings. It should be noted that the hotel waived the $8 parking fee for our troubles with the television. read more

OK, I had an issue, I felt it never got resolved, but through the power of Yelp (yeah Yelp!), the hotel manager reached out to me and offered what I feel is fair compensation for the issue. I left a garment bag in the room when I checked out with a nice suit (not an Armani, but it was several $100) and a well worn leather jacket. When I got home, it took me a few days to realize I didn't have it, and when I did contact the hotel, I was told that they had it and would keep it for me. Flash forward 4 months and I am ready to head back up that way, so I would stop by to grab the suit. I send an email to the guy I had been talking to, and I get a response that he is no longer there. Then I get an email from someone in housekeeping that the suit and jacket were donated after 3 months. A week later I sent an email to the General Manager, and didn't hear back. After posting a rather scathing review here, Jason reached out to me, having never heard of this issue before now (his brother, the GM, somehow missed my email to him). We discussed the issue, he talked about raising the issue with the staff at his managers meeting, and he offered to compensate me for what was lost. I am not getting my suit or jacket back, but overall I feel that he is meeting me at least 1/2 way. read more

This an adorable hotel right in the heart of Montecito. I stay in Marriotts several nights a month, I was coming to Santa Barbara and couldn't find one in my budget where I needed to be so I searched elsewhere and came across this boutique style hotel on hotels.com It has a beautiful entrance and I was greeted very well. They have a little restaurant right off the lobby, a bar on the other side and there's so many restaurants within walking distance and the man at the front desk was nice enough to recommend a few for me. They also offer breakfast in the morning which is always a plus and they have coffee and tea available throughout the day. The rooms are small, I did notice that in the reviews when I booked it but it was okay for me as it was just me. It was difficult to unload the case and have that set out but I made it work, 2 people with 2 bags could be a tight squeeze but it's okay for a night or 2. They also a don't have coffee makers in the room, that's the first thing I do when I wake up in the morning is make coffee, I don't really want to get dressed to go down to the hotel lobby to get coffee. I did however meet the Manager while I was here who informed me they're in the process of upgrading some things and coffee makers will be placed in all the rooms. Lastly, the elevator is hard to use, I'm a pretty small person and I had an extremely hard time getting the gate to open and stick so I could pull my suitcase it but it's also a cute elevator. They do whoever have a fabulous fitness center with a few cardio machines, a weight machine, free hand weights, balls, rollers, towels, water and a TV. I always booked my hotels based on their fitness centers, I do like to work out around 7am as I'm always traveling for work and their gym doesn't open until 8am so I just started my day a bit later. But overall a cute hotel, comfy beds, very clean just, nice staff and it's in a great area of town! read more

The hotel is right by the freeway, rooms are small and dusty, the AC is not central but wall mount dust blower, the lights in the room are not working, bathroom is small and toilet is right by the wall; a bit closer to the wall and I won't be able to fit my 127 lbs on it. We splurged and stayed a weekend in 402 at The Montecito Inn. It's a by-gone era charm hotel. It's not new money glitzy, rather old money swanky. While I think it could use some updating, I really enjoyed the understated elegance and the homages to Charlie Chaplin. The architecture of the property is gorgeous. I loved the area and the quaint shops and delicious restaurants we were in walking distance to. And with a short drive (5 minutes), you can easily get to State Street and other downtown SB attractions. We were treated very well and our room was much larger than we expected. The entrance/foyer/hallway with table and lamps, leading to a large closet was a nice touch. The white marble, rather contemporary, bathroom seemed out of place for the rest of the Mediterranean/Spanish styled ambiance, but I definitely enjoyed the separate large tub, walk in shower and make-up area. The french doors to the bedroom were pretty and made it a special, secluded area you can shut the world out of and focus on couple time and romance! The living room area was ample and elegant (although an update would not be a bad idea) featuring a large fireplace. The real fun was the huge windows that look out onto the street, with people walking by, that you can see out of, but they cannot see in to. Overall, we had an amazing time and the overall charm and service we received outweighed any negatives. read more

We've stayed with MI several times. Always beautiful, but something was amiss this stay. No toiletries were provided. This was attributed to measures taken during CoVid times to protect guests. Really? Not providing soap in the bathroom so I can't wash my hands after using the toilet is for our safety? We were not told this upon reserving, so we couldn't bring our own. The check-in sheet said they would be provided upon request. So we called down to the front desk... and called, and called, and called. No answer at 830pm. Fortunately I had one small bottle of multipurpose shampoo and shower gel for my husband and I to use. But no lotion so we had dry skin (big deal!). I'm no snob, but when we visit a hotel with these prices, I expect certain things. I could have stayed in my sister's guest room for free! I decided to pull a "Karen" and politely leave my opinions with the front desk. I was told that some things had to change during the pandemic and this was one of them (along with a skeleton staff apparently, because we lugged our own baggage to the third floor and no one could answer the phone at the front desk when we called for hand soap). When I commented that it was a bit of a stretch to not provide soap during a pandemic, I was told that there ARE bathrooms in the lobby for guests to use - apparently those DO have soap... if only I had known! I could have trooped down there in my jammies and washed my hands and made sure not to touch anything on my way back up. I know it's not the poor phone-answerer's fault that someone made the bad decision to take this opportunity to save a few bucks (on soap during a viral pandemic), so I asked her to pass on my comments. But I think I'll call back to talk to a higher-up. FYI, hand sanitizer isn't good enough after using the bathroom except in extreme necessity, like in a porta-potty at your child's soccer game. But even they are providing rolling water stations with..., you guessed it, hand soap!! I should know, I'm a nurse. And this was not okay. read more

I truly wanted to love this place. The photos make it look absolutely stunning but we were pretty disappointed with the experience. It's more of an overpriced boutique hotel and there seems to be a huge difference between the suites and the normal queen rooms. First things first, the room is tiny. There's just enough room for the furniture in the room and not much else. This also leaves for hearing your neighbors doing anything and everything. Especially the people above you. You can hear them walk, talk, use the restroom... It's awkward. The bathroom has no fan and the plumbing seems to be off. Took 4 times to flush the toilet (which seems like a bad idea for a state that's currently in a drought). The shower doesn't poor straight out of just the water head, it comes out of the faucet as well throwing off the water pressure. The nearby restaurants and shops are swanky and not really wallet friendly if you're watching your spending while traveling. The room was clean, the staff was friendly, and the pool facilities were well maintained. The overall atmosphere of the hotel is great and really pretty. Just an old hotel that got a facelift, so there's some downfalls you can't really change. read more

For the $300+ standard room rate, this is really not a great place. 1. Room is much smaller than you would expect 2. Bathroom shower water pressure changes whenever someone above you is using water 3. Walls are really really thin. We could see people talking next to our rooms and people walking above us. (The most annoying part) 4. AC unit is placed on the wall directly above and next to the bed. So if AC is on, there would be cold air blowing constantly at your head all night 5. Terrible view. (Basically dirty roofs from adjacent buildings) 6. Pretty sure there are cracks on the hallway wall that they covered with a piece of white plastic cover In addition, the hotel has someone hammering stuff right above our room at 9am. This basically ruined the morning. I wish I booked something in Santa Barbra instead. read more

We really enjoyed our stay at this beautiful and historic hotel. We were in a double Queen luxury room on the first floor (401). The room was large and updated in a classic Hollywood style. We had a mini bar, robes, a jacuzzi tub, electronically operated curtains, a nice big comfy bed. Even with construction ongoing across the street our room was very quiet. We loved every minute of it! It was also walking distance from several fun shops and nice restaurants. Even the beach was not too far a walk. The continental breakfast was not much to talk about, but you never know what to expect with those anyway. We hope to return again! read more

Charlie Chaplin's old hotel..... The silent comedian himself helped build this hotel. Well I don't know if he literally built it but he had a hand in its production. I think this is a pretty good hotel if you can get a cheap price. I spent a long weekend at the Montecito Inn for a close friend's wedding and thoroughly enjoyed myself. I spent the first three nights in a tiny but charming standard room and was then lucky enough to inherit a gorgeous suite from my friend the groom after his wedding (at which point he rudely claimed to have better roommate options :-)). The hotel itself was class all around with vintage character, great service and mostly-modern amenities. It's also centrally located here in Montecito, which means you can stroll outside for your pick of outdoor dining, boutique shopping or an easy run down and along the beaches. While I can't quite go to 5 stars because of the Montecito's high end rates and proximity to the truly world class Four Seasons, I am giving it a strong 4+ and will welcome the chance to return. read more

The staff is warm and gracious, the rooms charming and comfortable and the location is beautiful, next to many different restaurants from fine dining to deli to great pizza, including two that are located right on the premises. It is a close walk to beautiful and uncrowded beaches and has a wonderfully nice pool/jacuzzi area that you can just relax and sip wine at all day and chat with other charming guests. We just returned from a 4-day visit to Santa Barbara. One of the highlights of the trip was the Montecito Inn. Our room was cozy but elegantly appointed with an efficient (and cute) bathroom. My wife is temporarily encumbered with crutches and a wheelchair. The room was quite large enough to accommodate all. The hotel staff could not have been more amenable or friendly. They are professional but approachable and can provide truly great suggestions for your day-trips, meals and other expeditions. The valet, in particular, is a great resource for directions and short-cuts in and around town (and even into the Santa Ynez Valley!) My 5-star rating is also due to the fabulous restaurant. You can't miss it while you're visiting. Even if you're not staying at the Inn, treat yourself to a wonderful meal here! The lounge/bar was quite nice, too. Drinks were generous and tasty. As a frequent traveler and hotel snob, I am very particular about my hotels. I tend to stay at W hotels and mostly boutique style places like the Nine Zero in Boston. There are 3 criteria where I judge: 1. How cool is the hotel bar? 2. Views? 3. Is the staff professional and neat? For a hotel that has a lot of history in Hollywood, the Montecito Inn has one of the coolest bars of any hotel in Santa Barbara. The bartender Will pours a great drink and it's a great place to start and end your night before you retire to your quaint room. If you are lucky enough to pick, I suggest a Mountain View room. You'll wake up thinking you are in some small Spanish town. The staff is one of the best. They don't act as if they are REQUIRED to treat you like a rock-star, they simply are genuine. From the time you pull up, the valet/bellman are there for you. Robert, our valet/Bellman was the best. He was our all around "go to" guy. The front desk staff, like Omar, Kelsi and Rachael are friendly and make the check-in process easy. By the end of the first day, they are your friends and greet you by name. The management staff are professional and warm, and don't be surprised if you see some of the staff at the bar after work and hanging out with you as your new friends. You feel part of the family of this majestic hotel. Rent cruisers to ride to the beach, or simply sit out by the pool and take a dip in it's warm water. We keep coming back here every trip, and highly recommend it for someone who is seeking a true Spanish style experience of Santa Barbara with a bit of Hollywood history in thrown in the mix. read more

We paid average of $215 a night and stayed in room 220 (right above their bar)that had one King and one full sized bed. Pros Room was very spacious ! Great if traveling with kids. Great value for SB Quick walk to beach, 10 min at most Quick walk to pizza , fine restaurants, coffee,ice cream (scoops-they make their own gelato and waffle cones) Friendly service Free parking Cons Our room 220 was very noisy! Couldn't sleep first night, 2nd night was a little better. I believe our room was right above pool equip...constant hum and slight vibration while sitting in king bed. Not as noticeable in full bed. Surprisingly, despite our room above bar, couldn't hear patrons. Bar closes around 10 most nights I think? Free continental breakfast isn't good.... Pastries and bagels very stale. Pool tiny Stairs VERY slippery. It is narrow and made of MARBLE . My 12 year old daughter fell down the stairs on our last night. Sad to say we planned a biking excursion next day that we were so looking forward to but couldn't go-her legs were too sore. There is a elevator but it's very slow. Great weekend getaway! Montecito Inn is a precious jewel. The accommodation, wonderful service, complimentary breakfast and daily fresh fruits & coffee are all excellent . The quality of this charming hotel is 5 star in my opinion. The location is conveniently located in the heart of Montecito where you can walk to local shops and restaurants. It's only a couple miles away from butterfly beach and Santa Barbara's pier. The hotel also offers complimentary bike rental which I think is the best way to explore this wonderful town. The front desk attendants were so helpful and polite as they want to make your stay as charming and comfortable as possible. The property is immaculately clean, the housekeepers and greens keepers should be commended for their attention to detail. My overall stay was an amazing experience. read more

ThIs place is disgusting. We checked in on Christmas Eve, hoping to spend a nice evening In Montecito. When we checked in to the room it had a strong smell of rotting moldy old carpet. The smell was so bad both of us felt sick after a few minutes in the room. The room was small and all items in the room appears poorly maintained. The bathroom was original 1920s, which may be charming for some but appeared dated and well just gross. It appears they installed a new mini split air conditioning in the room, but it looked poorly installed and crooked on the wall. Being an installer of these units myself, I am thinking they didn't use licensed contractors to install them as this one was on an interior wall and most likely the condensation from the unit was leaking somewhere causing the mold problem in the room. That or they just don't care about cleaning carpets after people throw up. The elevator was scary. Maybe it's great if you're into antique stuff, but getting into a creaky 1920s elevator is not my idea of a good time. This ghost story of a hotel should be on that show hotel nightmares. The place is in pretty bad condition over all and needs to be tore down. The only shining light in our short time at the hotel was a gentleman at the front desk named Derryn. He was very alert and professional during our check in, and equally professional when we decided not to continue with our reservation. He is an asset to this hotel and should be working in a five star hotel instead of this roach motel. I was in Santa Barbara to speak at an event kicking off Distracted Driving Awareness Month. The hotel was so nice! The outside is gorgeous. My room was beautifully decorated. The bed was perfect as were the linens. In the lobby you can get coffee or tea at any time. There is also a bowl of fresh fruit to choose from. My favorite part was the free bikes! I did not have time for a long ride but enjoyed riding up and down the street, checking out all of the neat stores. The different shops are wonderful. A true pearl of Montecito. Last night was my second time staying at Monecito Inn. To say it's amazing is understatement. I love everything about it! Starting with the rich history (it was founded by my beloved Charlie Chaplin) and ending with great coffee in the mornings. Great stuff, location and, I know it might sound insignificant, but their towels and sheets smell soooo nice! And very soft and pleasant to the skin. That being said, I highly recommend this hotel. I'd choose it any day over the big chains, including Four Seasons. And check out the new restaurant they just opened (it's called Monarch). read more

This beautiful old Spanish inn with its red tiled roof has an understated elegance that makes you feel relaxed the second you enter the foyer. We arrived on a Saturday thinking we had a reservation but had mistakenly booked for Sunday. We called Expedia to cancel while Monica at the front desk checked to see if a king room was available. Long story short, she secured us a room at a good price and spoke with the Expedia person so we'd get a refund for the goofed Sunday reservation. What a doll! She then helped us choose a dinner spot we could walk to from the Inn. Finally, she sent out Nick to snag a couple of glasses of wine for us to enjoy by the pool. The room has tasteful decor (greys, whites, and black) and all you need in terms of TV, Internet, and niceties. Well done! So glad we stayed here! read more

This was a charming hotel that we were able to book through Hotels Tonight. I really enjoyed the fact that Charlie Chaplain was the original owner and that it still has a glimpse of that time period from the elevator to the vintage decor. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. It was clean, the complimentary breakfast was good and well-balanced, and the furniture was up-to-date although the hotel was historical. It was perfect for our last minute booking and one night stay. read more

My wife and I just stayed at this Hotel for the last few nights - the Hotel is beautiful, great location and the staff is really helpful and nice. They offer free coffee at all hours, and the coffee is quite good. My only negative is that the walls are quite thin. If the room above you gets up in the middle of the night to take a piss, you hear the whole transaction lol We had a couple fight next to us, and we heard the entire argument. Couldn't decide who was right or wrong, but it was pretty annoying. Honestly though, it's a great hotel. read more

The Web sites boasts that it is a Four Star property. It is a two at best these days. Heat did not work, water stopped in the middle of my shower, and staff in restaurant started blasting EDM music at 10 PM as they cleaned and reset for the next day. No management on site. Staff said they could not move one of my colleagues because they needed to ask permission and that could not happen until the next day. Walls are paper thin. Floors uneven, and again really inconsistent water pressure. Will never stay there again and suggest you look elsewhere too. read more

My boyfriend and I stayed here for a few nights. I don't know why some of these reviews say the AC was confusing. You push the on/off button and the ac unit light turns on if it's on... The hotel is beautiful and the staff was so accommodating. Also, the pool is nice and heated and very, very clean. It's a historic building and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. I would highly recommend staying here when in town! Bonus: There is a restaurant called The Monarch downstairs and it is phenomenal! read more

My husband and I have stayed at Montecito Inn over 10 times in the last few years and have always enjoyed it. However, this recent time we had to cancel due to Covid exposure and didn't want to risk exposing anyone at the hotel. At first the hotel said they would issue a refund (we even said we would take a credit since we go so often) but since we booked this time thru a third party we would have to call them. We called the third party and they said they would have to call the hotel on our behalf. When the third party called, the hotel told them no. I guess Montecito Inn rather have guests exposed to Covid. read more

Paula the hotel manager is quite possibly the rudest person I have ever encountered in a customer servive position. I booked 2 rooms and was charged 4 x on 2 cards. I very much wanted to stay at this property and attempted to obtain resolution with Paula, however when she was not Impatiently over talking me after I had listened to her the she was being incredibly defensive as if it was personal and not business. Lauren and the other employees were a Amazing. Paula never once said she was sorry for the problems I encountered she just kept being rude and unprofessional. Built by Charlie Chaplin in the 1920's, this hotel has many original features and decor. The rooms are small by current standards but well appointed with quality furniture plus a fridge, safe and mini bar. Staff are very helpful and the place has a comfortable feel without being pretentious. Location in the village in Montecito has no equal. Continental breakfast is available daily but the only ice machine is on the ground floor so be prepared for stairs or the 90 year old steel cage elevator. read more

Lovely location on the main commercial walk street in Montecito. Hotel is average. Staff lovely and generally friendly. Rooms small but clean and reasonably well appointed and in decent repair. TV channel mix well below average. Single elevator is small and awkward to use. Overall...the facility is average. Sort of like a middle of the road European hotel in a non major city. Big issue with this hotel is literally zero foodservice onsite. No coffee in the rooms is unforgivable for a hotel in this price range, and literally a basket of apples and coffee in the lobby is it for foodservice. Comically bad. If the onsite restaurant option is not commercially viable then hotel leadership needs to determine a suitable Plan B. Simply having no foodservice is not competitive in the slightest, and the foodservice strategy at this hotel needs a serious rethinking and upgrade. read more
