He charged well more than I've ever paid for that repair at other jewelers, took something like 6 weeks, and when I got it back he'd built the points so high that the ring was constantly snagging on things. Six months later, I took the ring in for a different repair elsewhere, and the jeweler pointedly asked if I needed the setting fixed, because the points were too high. Now, a few months later, one of the points has come off again and I'm back where I was a year ago, needing a new setting.

I think the name of the woman I spoke with was Monica. As soon as she heard I had a ring from People's, all she would tell me is that I had to go there to have it repaired. I told her that I would rather pay more to have it fixed locally because People's sends it out East. I kept trying to mention my family ring (because I absolutely would NOT send that anywhere in case it got lost) but she refused to listen and just kept saying, "go back to People's!". I literally almost cried because I'm so attached to that ring and it breaking was already so stressful. Anyways, I went to Independent Goldsmith, paid twice what I would have at People's in order to keep it local, and received excellent service. I would not recommend LL Private Jewellers at all, absolute crap service.

However, the people who work at this shop are so outstandingly kind and helpful that it's worth mentioning. I came here to get a very fine gold chain repaired and to get my watch battery replaced. I ended up needing to get the movement in my watch cleaned after there were still issues with the second hand getting stuck after the battery replacement. The woman working the counter was very clear in advising me and gave me a sense of options and cost before ever compelling me to commit to the work I would get done. We discussed the replacement of the crystal on the watch face and she recommended that I see how the other repairs went first, to ensure that the watch could be made to function properly first. It's simple stuff, but I really felt that I was being given respectful advice. I also watched the same woman interact with an elderly lady who came in looking for a particular address, which turned out to be in the building, but required her to go on a bit of an adventure to find it. The woman working here went out of her way to help this elderly woman find her way - it was very sweet.
