Real Life Customer Service and Integrity!…read more I highly recommend New United Auto in Monterey. Most reviews are about everything going perfectly, but you find out how good a business really is when something goes wrong. I bought and shipped new tires for my Tesla 3P from Tire Rack (this was their recommended location). During my visit, their pneumatic tire changer croaked and unfortunately during the event, my wheel got scratched. Instead of making excuses, the owner completely owned the situation. He asked to keep the car so he could bring in a third-party specialist to repair the wheel at their custom shop. When I got my car back, the damage was completely invisible. The wheel looked as new. The lesson here is not about the initial mishap, but the recovery. I cannot speak highly enough of how the owner handled this inconvenience and resolved it with total professionalism. They have earned my trust completely, and I will absolutely use them again!

The total cost of everything was what other mechanics quoted me for just the turbo! I got my car back today after Rico went above and beyond working extra on my car and it's driving better then when i got it from the dealership. I would totally recommend anyone to come here!

I wanted to love this shop, but since John just hung up for me after I called him about a glitch…read morehappening with Mini Cooper's window (again) since my fuel pump was replaced (again ... same thing happened the first time related to resetting codes or something). The good news is they replaced my fuel pump for free when my gas gauge wasn't showing how much gas I actually had (and left me stranded on a road trip). But communicating with John was always a challenge. I concur with the previous reviewer about phone etiqutte, demeanor and willingness to share information. For me a simple question usually got a defensive reply as if every question was an attack. I learned to walk on eggshells while trying to hold my ground and get the service I felt I deserved. (I paid them a LOT of money.) I had decided after this latest issue was resolved, I was going to move on to another shop. I probably wouldn't be writing this review if John hadn't literally hung up on me when I told him my window was opening an inch every time I unlocked the car and opened the door since picking up my car again. He cut me off and said I should find another shop because I have too many complaints (my questions?? wanting my car to not die on the side of the road when the fuel pump they replaced failed or wasn't installed properly?) And before I could say a word he hung up.

Expensive Battery Replacement: overpriced labor and material…read more I brought my 2020 Tiguan in for a battery replacement. I was required to do a $95 inspection first, which I agreed to so they could diagnose any underlying issues. They determined it was just the battery. However, the final bill came to over $530! While I appreciate that they tested the alternator to ensure the charging system was working properly, and I understand labor costs vary, this pricing seemed excessive ($300 for battery). The same Interstate battery retails for $179 at Costco. Even accounting for overhead and profit, a $120+ markup on the battery plus $200 in labor for what should be 30-45 minutes of work felt steep. The work was completed and the battery is working fine, but I wish I had shopped around more and took the warning signs of the defensiveness of the shop owner when trying to get a cost estimate prior to agreeing to pay for the inspection. Also, it was surprising that a veteran owned business did not offer any military discount.

I briefly stopped in the small parking area next to the shop with my door open specifically to show I was not parking there permanently and intended to move immediately. There was even a police vehicle parked there at the time. I waved to Joe through the window, and he waved back. I then returned to my car to move it and continue looping until I could bring the car in properly. As I was pulling out, Joe suddenly came outside yelling that my appointment was cancelled because I had stopped in that parking area. He told me to "go somewhere else" and refused service on the spot. What disappointed me most was not the cancellation itself, but the way it was handled. I know Joe personally and expected at least a respectful conversation instead of being shouted at publicly. I understand businesses have rules regarding parking and access, especially around specialty vehicles. But professionalism and communication matter. Customers should not feel humiliated over a misunderstanding that lasted only moments and was already being corrected. Thankfully, I went to another shop afterward and received excellent service and respectful treatment. My advice to others: understand that this shop appears to operate entirely based on the owner's personal discretion and mood at the moment. Your experience may depend heavily on that.

Goodyear Pacific Grove Tire & Service…read more On 2/17/2023 just after noon I arrived at Goodyear in Pacific Grove to have a tire plugged and my rear brakes replaced. Let me say that I am a Disabled Marine Veteran recovering from a 3 week old knee replacement. So I'm still getting around with a Walker. As I wait patiently outside enjoying the beautiful weather and speaking with my daughter someone just starts speaking loudly to me which I thought was very rude because it was clear that I was on the phone. I end my call with my daughter so I can give the person my attention. It the owner of the shop. He says your car is unsafe to drive. I responded by saying this is why I'm here to have a tire plugged and my rear brakes replaced. He proceeds to say "I'm going to have to call the police to report that your car is unsafe to drive". I respond "I understand that's why I'm here". My car is on the lift, tires off, brake inspection being completed. The owner then repeated " I have to call the police ". At this point I say "please put my car back together and I'll go somewhere else". I enter the store and ask the service writer Donal F to please have the mechanic to put my car back together. He responds "what country are you from"? I respond "excuse me" and he repeated "what country are you from"? I respond "I speak the king's English I'm from the USA I'm a disabled Marine Veteran and I'm African American". The owner at this point was on the phone with the PG police. As an African American man when some involves the police your mind goes to am I going to die today? My car get put together. PG Police arrive two units!!! Because my car is unsafe to drive?? Of course I speak with the first officer explain the situation and we enter the store to get my paperwork and keys so I can leave. Donal F says "I took what he said wrong". I reply "no you said it correctly until you got a dose of the wrong one"! I post this not to garner any empathy but to share that a simple trip to Goodyear to have repairs done on my car turned into a very freighting experience because the owner of our local Goodyear here in PG came to the conclusion that as a Black man I couldn't afford the work that needed to be done and attempted to use the Police against me and paint me as "the angry Black man". I know now that I need to go to the surrounding cities to have my car serviced.
