I went Sunday for brunch and live music and it was amazing. The two men who provided music were great, and the omelets were so good. The eggs were fluffy and filled with cheese and fillings, the breakfast potatoes were very good. We also had mimosas that were affordable and very good. This spot is a great little place to have an amazing outdoor brunch place, with so much going for it. Limited vegetarian selection but the portobello cap burger with very good fries and mac & cheese were both enjoyed. Music on the night we were there was variable, some (the bluesy pieces) were very good, some less so. The place was absolutely packed and most arrived for the start of music. The kitchen was totally slammed and as you would expect, our meal took a while. Despite that I would rate the service as very, very good; our server ensured our drink glasses did not sit empty and periodically checked in to provide updates. A Very thin serving Between the bread. The chef needs to go to beyond bread to see how it should be made. The side Caesar and Cole slaw were minimal on a tiny Saucer and smaller short bowl. Hot venue for music; however, they can do better with small improvements. The chairs are flimsy, plastic/aluminum folding chairs. Even a small person is challenged to feel secure in the seats. I met up here with a friend who was here with the group a couple of weeks ago on a Saturday afternoon. it was hot outside, but fortunately, the courtyard has misers on the patio, which helped a lot. It's also a shaded patio. I came later and the afternoon probably around 12:45-ish I ordered the macaroni and cheese after seeing someone else with macaroni and cheese you're able to add three things and I added chicken, bacon, and poblano peppers. My macaroni and cheese came out looking a little different than the one I saw previously and tasted a little bit bland. My vegan friend commented that they may have given me the vegan one instead on accident. This service was very distant and curt. I know that they were closing around 2pm, at which point he and I think maybe one other person started putting away chairs around us. We quickly left. That hasn't changed. :) Since my last review, Greg, Kelly, and their team have made some positive changes that are important to share. The first is more coverage from the elements - you're still outside, but there is more shade and cooling/heat depending on the season. The next is service. Our recent experiences have been great with prompt delivery of food and frequent check-ins from the server. Finally, there are more vegetarian options available, including some specials! Throughout a trying year, Monterey Court not only looked after the safety of their customers, but also listened to them to further improve customer experience. Went to see The Garland Green Band for Sunday brunch. An exciting up and coming band from Tucson and Canyon Del Oro high school. The music was great and the lead singer had an exciting voice and the other musicians especially the drummer was very good. Food service was hectic. It took a while to get drinks and menus but the food came out quickly once ordered. It was alright, nothing exciting. They were short staffed and the server just worked the evening shift. It's nice to see live music again. They had mister to help with the heat. Parking is either along the street or a dirt parking lot to the west just for Monterey Court events. read more

I know Tucsonans feel this place is something for music, but I have to weigh in. The band both times was great. The acoustics - poor. Drinks - expensive. Food - tasty expensive bar food. Cover charge - expensive. Service - Takes an hour to get food. Then, there are no obvious improvements made to this concrete, drab, uninteresting courtyard. Get a sound system. Do something that helps the bands sound better. Do something that helps with the depressing nature of the venue. So, my last visit recently cost me alone $75. Two small margaritas in a martini glass totaled $28. Entrance was $15. Then a quesadilla and tip were the rest of it. The shops in the courtyard are only open when the venue is open. Hunh? Who can make a living that way? They pack them in, so they will continue to be mediocre and unimproved. Good for them. read more

I grew up in Tucson and remember when Miracle Mile was full of decent motels, and later, not so decent motels. So, I was curious what Monterey Court was like as a venue. We made reservations early enough to eat dinner and get the lay of the land. The table was ours for the entire evening. Cute little shops and the restaurant's kitchen surround the tables and stage. We noticed a sign giving a heads-up that with the staffing shortage (as so many businesses are experiencing now) service might be a little slower. We were pleasantly surprised to receive excellent service. If there was a staffing shortage, it was not obvious. I ordered chicken pot pie and a side salad. The food was delicious. Others in my party ordered burgers and steak tacos. They all raved about their food. Prices are reasonable and the food was very good. We became huge fans of the band Little House of Funk - a talented, fun band. The dance floor was crowded with all ages - from a young bachelorette party to older adults. Monterey Court is a little crowded, a lot noisy, and 1000% fun. read more

Went there tonight to hear Heather Hardy band and decided to get there early to have dinner. Nightmare! They do not have the capacity to serve even 50 people and yet they managed to take a $15 coverage charge for more than 100 unsuspecting people. We waited 11/2 hours and still did not have a morsel of food! They don't have the capacity or the decency to figure out what they can handle. We are done with them - go at your own risk! read more

I enjoyed my Monty Cristo ($13) and also had part of a friend's omelette. A bloody Mary and a cappuccino will each run you $4. They do have live music there. That was a plus, atleast with the opening act. The main act was enough to make me run for the hills. Parking actually made me worry about our vehicle and our own safety. The venue has a lot going for it, a nice outdoor space for live music surrounded by shops, and excellent bands. However, there are some things that need attention. First the table seating is too close together, this makes it difficult to 1. Get to your table 2. Get up from your table (to dance or restroom) 3. Allow servers to easily navigate the space. This leaves those seated at the center table getting a lower level of service than the table on the perimeter. Second they could use more staff, we were there Friday and Saturday, Friday seemed particularly light on staff. Thirdly there is something odd about the billing. My wife and I had 3 Tito's martinis. The bill came and the first charge was 6 martinis at $10 each, then there was a charge for 6 martinis at $4.50. My wife went to ask our server what was going on with the bill and was told the $4.50 was the base Martin charge and the $10 was the upgrade to Tito's?!? So the Tito's martinis were $14.50 each more than 3 times the cost of the well martini. The unique setting and music is the only thing good about the Monty. Service has ALWAYS been poor... Slow, rude, and sometimes magical--the wait staff simply disappears. Before the pandemic the food was good. I can't comment about post pandemic food because the two occasions I ordered food it didn't come. It's really disturbing to have prices of drinks verbally quoted, then seeing a higher price on the bill. I want to like the Monterey Court. Unfortunately, the owner and staff make it impossible. I know, I know - it's on Miracle Mile - a bit of a sketchy area, but much better than it used to be. Parking is available in a lot to the west for super popular shows, as well. Let's start with the fun stuff -- cocktails! Lots of choices, and a great variety is offered. Craft beers are also on the menu, with a decent rotation. Then we get to the food. For some outrageous reason, the quesadillas are flat out good. Served on a cutting board and bursting with delicious fillings, it could be shared, but I think it is one's right to retain sole custody of this starter. It comes with salsa, sour cream, and guacamole. Weekend brunch is a wide variation of choices. How about a Monte Cristo Benedict? Imagine French toast, ham, poached eggs, hollandaise, and maple syrup, served with fried potatoes. Oh, and reasonable mimosas. Totally a reason to get out of bed and traverse into the world. Dinner? Yep, got you covered there, too. A little simpler - burgers, sandwiches, and mac and cheese (that baby can be personalized with various mixings!). I had the fish sandwich and my husband had the pulled pork sandwich -- both of us had the macaroni & cheese as the side. Our plates and bowls were basically clean after we were finished. Then the really fun part -- live music!!! Good music, the kind you can dance to and is actually very pleasant to listen to. That night's band was Little Cloud - such a great band! Outdoor seating is very comfortable, with ample heaters that allows you to hang out for hours without turning into an ice cube (the cocktails help with that, too). Spent Sunday afternoon with my sister at the Concerts Across America benefit for gun violence victims awareness. A good cause at a cool venue I'd never visited before. It's a shame it's on such a shady stretch alongside hourly-rate motels and a road infamous for prostitution, but maybe that's an old wives' tale. The court itself is a neat outdoor area of shops, an outdoor stage, and a full bar/restaurant tucked away behind a less-than-presentable building. Barry the bartender was a very knowledgable guy. Probably helps to be/have a female present so you get better service and get to try free stuff he has sitting behind the bar (including liquer-soaked cherries). In any case, he recommended what is now my favorite beer combination. 1/2 Oak Creek Nut Brown Ale + 1/2 Mother Earth Vanilla Cream Ale. Not too sweet, not bitter, probably could've drank a few more. Only reason not to give this place 5-stars is location and a small parking lot. Wasn't the biggest fan of parking on the street in this area. read more
