    Carne Asada tacos

Just saw this restaurant after a round of golf. Came here on a Tuesday and they have 99cent tacos, and they are as authentic as they come. The owner Gerardo was super great and let me know they do parties which I definitely will be using. It is a must try!!

Walked in and saw that they had multiple Guava Jarritos in the fridge. I was sold. Decided to go with the carne asada plate. Tortillas, nopales, beans, rice and salsa were all solid. Will definitely be going back. I plan to try their menudo and pozole.

Definitely a hidden gem. Montes Mexican Restaurant is a taco lover's paradise! Their $1 Taco Tuesday deal is unbeatable, offering great flavors and a generous amount of meat in each taco. As someone who craves tacos regularly, Montes has quickly become my go-to spot. The quality and taste of their tacos are consistently impressive, making every visit a enjoyable experience. My favorite is the cabeza taco. FYI their red sauce will burn your mouth! I usually ask for it on the side.

Just like any other cuisine, excellent Mexican food can be found in hole-in-the-wall locations. This newly opened Mexican restaurant is located on 17th street near Santa Ana College and conveniently positioned across the street from Northgate Market. If you bring 18 of your friends, one will have to stand outside. Yes...it's small. You won't just see the kitchen, you'll be in it. Reservations are not accepted, nor needed. There is no salsa bar, Mariachi band, or Corona on draft. Finally, I am not posting a street view photo fearing you may not go. 17th Street is speckled with hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurants for several miles. And with Santa Ana having more than 75% of the 310,000 residents being Hispanic, you can imagine they demand authentic good tasting and fair-priced cuisine. This place fits the bill. The two musts are the double-tortilla street tacos (asada or chicken) and the Mayor Traut (loaded) asada nachos. Just like the Mayor, the nachos are authentic, a bit cheesy, but have it all. While not the place for an intimate date night, baby shower luncheon, or a good pizza, you won't be disappointed if you are looking for a great option north of the border.

First of, the family is very friendly! Very accommodating and all smiles! Well...got some food, Tacos - pork and beef, its tender and the meat doesn't go hard when its not hot anymore. Torta (without beans ) it comes with fries - never had this before and its pretty good, tasty, good chunk of cheese and meat. I shouldve taken a better pic but ive eaten it already and i think its Caldo de Rez if I remember correctly..the meat just melts in your mouth its so tender.. The tamarind juice was very refreshing. I didn't get to take a photo, it was gone by the time I got home their horchata is also pretty good, i will definitely try that next time. My first time today and will definitely come back!

The photos caught our eye, but they don't even do justice to the actual experience. The modest facade completely hides the gem buried within; the moment you step through the doors, you are transported into a beautiful, vibrant atmosphere. Despite arriving just before 7:00 PM on a busy Saturday night, we were seated incredibly fast. We had the absolute pleasure of being served by Karla (with a 'K'). Her enthusiasm, attentiveness, and deep knowledge of the menu were top-notch--truly a model for how the entire service industry should operate. As for the food? Out of this world. From the presentation to the flavor, the attention to detail is flawless. It is completely clear that Rosa Madera was created by someone with immense vision and heart, and they've managed to find a staff that shares that exact same passion. We are so hooked that we will absolutely be making the trip back from San Diego with the sole purpose of eating here again. In the meantime, my friends and family are going to get sick of me over the next few days, because I refuse to shut up about this place!

To make matters worse, one of our meals was completely forgotten. The service was extremely slow throughout the entire visit. Every time we needed something, whether it was a refill, an update, or assistance, the wait felt excessive. The restaurant may have potential because the food itself was flavorful, but it seemed like they were either understaffed or unprepared for the number of customers they had. Another disappointment was the drink selection. We were told they don't have a liquor license, so hard alcohol isn't available. Their sodas were canned, and when we asked for juice for the kids, they told us they were completely out. As for the atmosphere, the restaurant is on the smaller side and felt more like a converted house than a traditional restaurant, complete with a fireplace and television in the dining area. The food had good flavor, which is the only reason I'm giving more than one star. Unfortunately, the long wait times, missing meal, lack of drink options, and poor service made the overall experience disappointing.

Thanks to Restaurant Week, we stumbled upon this gem, and we are so grateful. The hospitality alone would earn five stars. But then came the food. The tacos? Absolutely exceptional. The steak was tender and flavorful in a way that reminded me of eating throughout Mexico, you could actually taste the meat. A light, gentle pickle of vegetables on top, minimal cheese, nothing heavy or greasy. These are not the American-style tacos drowning in a pound of melted cheese. These are the real thing. The beans were lovely, the rice was solid, and my passion fruit winearita drink was genuinely a treat. Restaurant Week gave us the perfect low-pressure reason to try somewhere new, and we walked out with a new favorite. We'll be back for lunch. We'll be back for dinner. And yes, Taco Tuesday, we'll absolutely be back for that.
