Came across this taco shop local to where I was and so glad I found this gem! I did come a bit towards closing so I felt bad, but they took in my order, was accommodating to what I wanted! First, they have $0.99 tuesday taco deals which I feel like is absolutely rare nowadays but their food overall is just super affordable. Also got their carne asada fries for $12 and wanted a side of rice and beans but because 16 oz was too much for each, they offered to give me half half and definitely stuffed each container. Restaurant and salad bar were clean, it's a cute mom and pop shop, which I loved. Even if it weren't taco tuesday I would definitely be back for the range of options you get from the menu and the affordability. Food also tasted great, only thing is instead of guac I got slices of avocado on top of my fries, but I think it's cus it was 30 min until closing. Walked in and saw that they had multiple Guava Jarritos in the fridge. I was sold. Decided to go with the carne asada plate. Tortillas, nopales, beans, rice and salsa were all solid. Will definitely be going back. I plan to try their menudo and pozole. read more

Amazing prices on their tacos for taco Tuesday 99cents of course tax but for 5 tacos it was $5.46 under 10 dollars. You get to dress your tacos to your liking. I recommend the Asada their tortillas are also handmade. For the price is worth it and the tacos are flavorful and freshly done. Owner is very welcoming to all people super chill. Hardly gets busy so I waited about 5 mins for my tacos. Will come back every Tuesday as my new taco spot. read more

This newly opened Mexican restaurant is located on 17th street near Santa Ana College and conveniently positioned across the street from Northgate Market. If you bring 18 of your friends, one will have to stand outside. Yes...it's small. You won't just see the kitchen, you'll be in it. Reservations are not accepted, nor needed. There is no salsa bar, Mariachi band, or Corona on draft. Finally, I am not posting a street view photo fearing you may not go. 17th Street is speckled with hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurants for several miles. And with Santa Ana having more than 75% of the 310,000 residents being Hispanic, you can imagine they demand authentic good tasting and fair-priced cuisine. This place fits the bill. The two musts are the double-tortilla street tacos (asada or chicken) and the Mayor Traut (loaded) asada nachos. Just like the Mayor, the nachos are authentic, a bit cheesy, but have it all. Found this place by accident. Drove by and saw a sign that said $.99 tacos. The sign doesnt exactly say Montes, just Restaurant. The restaurant is run by a husband and wife. Its small but cozy. The $.99 tacos are street tacos that are packed with meats. They have alot of meat options. Their red sauce is one of the best sauce I've had in awhile. It was so good, I got 2 containers to go. The best part of this restaurant is that they $.99 tacos almost everyday. Where can you find that now!?!!? First of, the family is very friendly! Very accommodating and all smiles! Well...got some food, Tacos - pork and beef, its tender and the meat doesn't go hard when its not hot anymore. Torta (without beans ) it comes with fries - never had this before and its pretty good, tasty, good chunk of cheese and meat. I shouldve taken a better pic but ive eaten it already and i think its Caldo de Rez if I remember correctly..the meat just melts in your mouth its so tender.. The tamarind juice was very refreshing. I didn't get to take a photo, it was gone by the time I got home their horchata is also pretty good, i will definitely try that next time. Found this place on yelp after trying to go for about a week. Was having trouble finding the location but saw the the " restaurant " sign on top. What I had was the I believe the asada plate which had Chilaquiles, asada and beans but I substituted that for rice. Overall the plate was good and they served me a good portion of asada. And about the agua de Jamaica, it was hands down the best one I've tried so far. The owner was very attentive and welcoming, will stop by in the future to try other stuff on there menu. read more
