To preface, I am not a regular at billiard bars nor do I know much about them. But I came for a date and had a nice time! I wasn't sure what the clientele or atmosphere was going to be like, but it's definitely dive bar vibes and not very many women at all. I was the only woman for the first couple hours and by the time I left I think there were two more. I was worried it would be more of a biker place but it was a pretty "normal" selection of men lol. Bartenders were friendly, but note that they don't serve food there. It was a little bit tight in some areas and I just had to make sure I wasn't going to hit somebody while I was playing and sometimes I had to move tables and chairs around too. Overall it wasn't super intimidating for someone who is not serious about playing pool, but it was a fun way to spend a Friday night! read more

A solid hangout spot for sure. Montford Billiards is a basement bar located around the backside of a building right on Montford Drive. In addition to about six pool tables it also features dart boards and golden tee, along with several high top tables and a full service bar. They don't have a kitchen but it does look like they sell light snacks and they also have a vending machine that sells cigarettes which is a nice old school touch. The place is divey no doubt. I stop in here with friends every now and then to play, although the limited amount of tables means that during the evening it is hard to find one empty. I have sometimes had some sketchy moments with other patrons. Things like clear pool hustlers who try to badger you into playing against them when you are just trying to play with your friends, to somewhat entitled regulars who don't seem to like sharing the tables and will glare at you if they have to wait for you to finish playing. The bartenders have never been unfriendly, yet it often doesn't feel like a super welcoming atmosphere, like you just walked into a party that you weren't invited to. Still they have well maintained tables and cheap drinks. There is definitely fun to be had here, but if you walk in and for some reason the vibe feels off it may not just be you. If you are a serious pool player, you can definitely find some competition here. read more

The tall white guy is an asshole, he was talking and talking to 2 girls while I was trying to order some drinks, he was very rude when I asked him for a type of drink, it looks like he's racist, I was watching him talking to white folks and he was happy and smiling when I went up there, to get more drinks, he was angry with a serious face as if I didn't belong there, the same with the girl who got glasses, she prefers to be texting on her phone and it seems that she didn't want to get me some drinks, lol I went 2 days Friday and Saturday, the skinny tall lady she was nice, cool and chill she made us some fire ass drinks and was very professional she really deserved a nice tip. Originally this place was great, but the last two times I've been there the tall man (bald man) bartender has aggressively thrown out people for what seems like minimal reasons. I love that this has a dive bar feel. There are maybe five billiards tables so most of the time there isn't much of a wait. Lol We heard about this place and finally had a chance to check it out. We LOVED it. It's the perfect place to go out on a causal "I don't want to put on heels" date night and the perfect place for guys to really relax and just play pool! It's clean, not loud and Smokey and people respect the whole "I got next" table rule!! This little spot was a hole in the wall but oh so much fun. I came here with a few friends we played a couple games and I had a couple shots that were on special. We were attended to as soon as we sat at the bar and my friends and I didn't have to wait long for a pool table. The shots were made well and delicious. The best part is the juke box that has a vast array of music. That really made the atmosphere when everyone around was dancing and having a good time to the jams that were playing. First time hanging out here! In comparison to other pool halls, it's decent. Coin tables and hourly tables available ($8/hr). While it pales in comparison to my preferred location, Elizabeth Billiards (aka EBs), it will suffice if you are looking for a low key hang out. The drinks were also...well, just decent. I've been coming to this bar for 2 years now and never had an issue, until last night. They guy bartending was rude, irrational, and confrontational. We were there for about 2 hours at the corner pool table. My dad took a phone call at the corner of the bar. Bartender didn't like that so rudely and loudly told my dad "you can't just go anywhere you want in here". Confused, my dad calmly said "I'm on a call with my grandmother and I'm not crossing any lines by standing here, what's the problem?" He did not like this and got confrontational and I stepped in and told him to calm down. He then aggressively approached me and got in my face. Then threatened to close our tabs and kick us out. He continued to mumble things and add to the situation. which someone in a "management" role should never instigate a customer conflict. Nonetheless, as we were leaving multiple bystanders mentioned how this guy is a complete asshole and is new. I will not be going back to this bar until that guy is fired. Don't let the basement stairs and the back-of-the-parking-lot location fool you. Montford Billiards may be tucked away and look a little sketch from the outside, but it's a great little spot to play pool. I had no plan to come here. We were literally walking down the street, saw the sign, and said "huh, that could be fun. Let's go!" When we walked in, there was a mix of people. It was like rocker meets hipster. They have a decent beer selection, but the beer was cold and the bartender last night was really nice. It was our first time there, so he gave us a run down of the place: -Two types of tables. 9-ft for the hard core players (30-60min time slots) and 7-ft for players that, well, play like me at $1/game. -You're going for the beer, not the mixed drinks. Alcohol selection is small, but enough where they can make all the basics -Membership only place (I think he said it was because they serve alcohol and not food?). They have a paper where you basically sign your name. It's free. I don't know if this place has been around enough to look "run down" yet, so it's actually a really clean place! This surprisingly includes the bathroom. Granted, this place was filled with guys, so I'm pretty sure I was the only female to use the ladies room, but it was spotless. It's a great place if you're looking to kill some time, hang out with the guys, maybe even go on a date wearing your nicest leather jacket and jeans. Give this place a chance and tell yourself "ok, we'll just stay for a drink". It's a cool little spot. read more

I absolutely love this place! My husband and I "discovered" it a few months ago while exploring Montford a bit more. Good amount of pool tables (some days it is open play and some it's a pay per hour kind of deal) and 2 dart boards. Multiple TVs Lots of seating. For a dive part, it is actually really nice inside!! This is my favorite bar ever. It's so so so close to home and very welcoming. The staff learned our names (mine and my boyfriend) off the bat. They get excited to see us walk in. Jake and Rob are our guys on sundays and Mondays. They take the time to remember what we prefer to drink and if there is a liquor we like that they don't have... they get it. Evidenced by the Johnny walker Black and don Julio tequila. You're welcome Montford! (: the pool tables are very well taken care of: leveled, clean, brushed, and up to APA standards. The sticks are nice and not messed up from messing around, meaning the tips are still good. To say the music rocks is an understatement. If you're not feeling the usual 90s rock.... ask for anything you want or play it in the jukebox on the wall. Still, if you're not into pool then you can enjoy darts or internet gaming. Bathrooms are always clean and fresh. The pool tables are free on Sunday and Monday nights plus everyday 5-7. When the pool league is here... there's still enough room for others to occupy tables. Being located behind jets pizza and pure relax, this spot is a "hidden gem". Montford Billiards just celebrated their three year anniversary this past Saturday and we are excited to say we have been apart of it. read more

I don't always shoot pool, but when I do, I prefer somewhere like Montford Billiards. It's a little dive bar behind the strip mall that has Jet's, but it is always clean with a laid back vibe. They have a few tables (some are free sometimes, but are still cheap to play) and dart boards. I've never been here when it is crowded, but honestly if you are trying to play, it makes for the best atmosphere. Definitely a neat spot that I plan on going to again in the near future when I have some time to kill. read more

I tried to come here multiple times, and each time I was disappointed. They only have like 5 pool tables and they're never available. I came here with my two of my friends and GF for some drinks and to shoot some pool. We were held up at the door for a membership sign up and my girl and I was already members but we couldn't due to the fact my friends weren't. And the pool tables go quick so I wanted to claim the only open table at the bar, but the door man wouldn't let me pass only saying, " I need one of you to sign up." I said, "I'm already a member so why can't resever the table before it's gone?" After my friend finished signing up the table was gone so we turned around and went bowling instead across the street at Park Lanes. This happened every time I tried to come here.
