At dinner and decided to order the mozzarella sticks at the Press Box at the Monticello Casino. The absolute worst mozzarella sticks I've eaten in all of the United States. They are empty, there is no mozzarella In The Sticks. We said something to the lovely waitress and she spoke to the chef in the back and he re made us a new batch.. and they had tons of mozzarella in them they were perfect. read more

First time at this Casino and very dissatisfied. Not only did I not get any credit for being a first time customer but also, after having been at the High Limited location for a few hours, the bartender only showed up 2x. After asking Mngt as to her location, he starts chatting w/staff. I did asked a 2nd Staff member as to her location, too, and after asking him as to how many times the bartender had shown up, he stated 2-3 times, too. I am giving this 2 stars instead of 1 stars only because the place is usually pretty clean and the the buffet is good. Otherwise, this casino is very difficult to win any money at. The payouts are horrible and you can burn through your money very quickly here. I have been going here off-and-on for around 10 years. The only reason I go here is because it's the only casino close by. If I go with $100, I go in with no expectations of winning anything. I keep the mindset that it's no different than spending $100 going out for other entertainment, such as seeing a show or anything similar. I stopped going around a year ago because I was sick of spending $100-$200 in less than one hour on penny machines. The money goes very fast due to the lack of winnings and payouts. They occasionally mail you free plays (also redeemable at the kiosk), which never amount to more than $10 or $20. It's not worth the drive there for $20 in free plays. For the first time ever, they mailed me a $65 free play. I went last night and burned through it in around 90 minutes. That's the longest time I've had $65 last at Monticello. The casino was a ghost town, there were hardly any customers there. One waiter walked by once in 90 minutes to offer beverages - it appeared they downsized their waiting staff, yet 4 security guards stood at the entrance doing nothing and looking bored. When I was leaving, a customer coming in asked me how the payouts were. I told him I lost it all, and not many customers (of the few there) seemed to be winning anything. He told me the casino is going downhill fast. He also complained about how fast you burn through your money. The machines are also going downhill. Out of 3 machines that I used, one was inoperable as it was not accepting cash or tickets. Another machine had a screen that kept dimming out. It appears the maintenance of the machines is also going downhill. The times I've eaten at the buffet, the food and selection was pretty good, which I'd rate 4 stars in itself. My guess is this place won't survive once the new casino opens up. read more

I was not happy. The place is more casino now and they do not even treat the horse people well. It is almost like they want the horses gone and have only a casino. Small place, hasn't been upgraded in years. Buffet is terrible, deli is OK. I go a few times a year because it's a beautiful ride on a motorcycle through beautiful country roads. All older style machines that are pretty tight, but for what they had to work with, transforming that old rundown racetrack into a nice small racino wasn't bad. No tables except electronic, food very limited, and everything over $600.00 is taxable, which is not good at all. Parking is easy and ample, and it's really never that crowded even on weekends. "The Mighty M" Kudos for being one of the only daytime racetracks in existence, but was disappointed this summer, when it was closed on a Sunday. That used to be the only day you could count on it being opened, but with the Catskills taking a tourism hit, and the casino being the main source of revenue, the live racing product doesn't seem to matter any more. Don't expect Atlantic City or Vegas and you may be alright .The casino itself is mediocre even for the area its located. Which does not boast any other choices hence why they are still in operation. There are no table games ,no dealers, pit bosses, floor hosts, only slots . The slots themselves could prove to be fun but there are not nearly enough even for the small crowd this casino attracts . Nearly everyone I sat next to was in their 60s and grumbling about one health concern or another. The bar service is practically non existent , which came as a surprise being the room is so small. I was there for just under an hour and heard in the distance a hostess walking the floor echoing the standard ( drinks, anyone want drinks ).Unfortunately for me I never actually made eye contact as she appeared to be stuck in the 20 machine ( High Roller Area ) . In all it was a poor experience but when there's no other options close it will do in a pinch just to play 100 bucks and cross your fingers. Beware when parking ,as the lot is a complete disaster, all pot holes and loose gravel, very low budget. Monticello Raceway casino has implemented a new policy that is a inconvenience to their patrons. They will not give their patron a bag when purchasing food items. Senior citizens usually save their leftovers for another meal. This helps those who are on a fixed income stretch their income. Some patrons have started bringing their own bag. Visited the casino over the weekend. I do like this casino and it's not too far of a trip. That being said, I want to give a heads up about their valet parking "policy". I valet parked my car and when I got back in the car I noticed my passenger seat was pulled all the back, clearly someone was sitting in this seat. I was by myself and it so happened that the person who parked my car and returned it to me was a tall person. I called security when I was already on the road back home. I told them that someone was (most likely) sitting in the passenger seat and that what I had on the seat, which was a cd and cell phone headset, was gone. I didn't want to accuse this person and thought maybe it fell to the floor. Long story short, the valet manager was rude, uncaring, and said over and over...."Read the back of your valet slip - we are not responsible for damage or theft". Really? So I asked, "Are you saying that there is no responsibility on the casino to make good for items that are taken out of cars or damage to cars? Her answer, "Yes." Wow. That was an eye-opener. I paid $3 for valet parking and tipped this guy $5. Beware fellow Yelpers if you intend to valet park your car. read more
