Montillio's gave us the perfect cake for our wedding! We went into their Braintree shop to do our cake tasting, and while there were a ton of delicious options, we decided on two different flavors (the bottom and top tier were the same, with a different flavor for the second tier): a champagne white cake with a white chocolate mousse filling with fresh strawberries, and an olive oil cake. We loved them both so much, we couldn't pick just one! We opted for a simple flat spatula design for the white buttercream frosting on the outside and no cake topper or any other kinds of flourish (our florist added a few white roses and greenery to their tiers instead). It was simple, elegant, and absolutely perfect for our big day. The quality is amazing, and we left our wedding with the top of our cake meticulously packaged in a Montillio's-branded box to bring home and enjoy. Our plan is to come back next year for our 1 year anniversary to order a small cake in the same flavor as our topper to celebrate the occasion. Thank you, Montillio's! read more

I was so very extremely disappointed after ordering here for the first time this past week. I called and placed my order over the phone the day before for a specialty case. The girl who took the order told me they couldn't cut the cake on short notice but assured me they could draw on my design. Like usual, I wanted something very specific. I called back again a few hrs later just to make sure the order was correct. Another girl picked up the phone and told me "Yes, I have here that eyeglasses are center focus". I felt a little relieved, hoping with the extra $26 they were charging me for the design, the glasses would be 3D or something. Well.. at least eye-popping. I was horrified when I picked up the cake the next day. "That cost $26 to draw on??" It was a drawing of a graduation hat that took up half the cake and a pair of tiny eyeglasses on the side.. all in black icing. The message wasn't even on top of the cake. How many times can my sister graduate as a doctor?? You can't even see "Congrats Dr. N". I was so angry and disappointed. The cashier felt bad for me so she called her boss to figure out what they could do, which was nothing. The "decorators" have all gone home. I mean, decorators? I could've done that myself, as artistically challenged as I am! The cake looked so plain I literally died a little inside. The flowers on the display cakes looked way more intricate than what I had in front of me. What were they going to give me if I didn't request a design? A plain white icing on top of a cake? This would've been 1 star if the girl didn't apologize profusely and refunded me the money for the decorating. That and people enjoyed the cake. I, obviously, didn't. I was so disappointed the only thing I wanted for the day was ruined. My sister thought those glasses were boobies... I am too scarred to order here again. read more

this review is overdue.. Back in April, my mom ordered a TON of stuff for my sister's surprise birthday party--mini cupcakes, mini pastries, rolls...i think it totaled upwards of $150.00 to $200.00 of stuff for this party. First of all, the girl who took our order did NOT know what she was doing at all. Finally someone else took over for her and took down our order. We made the order 2 weeks prior to the party. My mother calls them two days before the party to confirm our order and make sure everything is accurate--they had no idea what she was talking about. No record of our order, NOTHING. Looks like the girl taking our order put it on a WEDDING CAKE order slip, which automatically gets sent to their Brockton Bakery (we ordered at the Braintree location and the party was in Braintree). They call my mom back, told her all this, and assured her everything would be delivered to Braintree in time for our pickup on the morning of the party. My dad and I pick up everything the morning of the party at 10 AM for a 12 PM party and bring it home to my mom--all hell breaks loose. We're missing one type of pastry we ordered, there's supposed to be a dozen each of 8 different cupcakes--one flavor is completely missing and there's 5 of one flavor, 10 of another. She ordered one type of roll, we got a totally different type of roll. It was ridiculous how many things were wrong with our order and it's now almost 11 AM and 60 people are going to be at our house in about an hour.....very disappointing. The only reason they are getting two stars is because when we called them after we brought everything home and told them everything that was wrong, someone from the Braintree location came to our house with the missing cupcakes and pastries, which i thought was nice of her. Other than that, they have a credit card minimum, which is a pain. I mean, i don't know anyone in my generation who carries cash anymore. I know a lot of businesses do it, but, in speaking with someone who used to work for a credit card company, it's against federal law for a business to have a credit card minimum..so share that with your friends. :) read more

I ordered a birthday cake for my daughter. I specifically told them I wanted a white cake about 5 times on the phone. I drove all the way to get it after working all day and appointments. Imagine my surprise when I got home and put candles in it to find out it was a chocolate cake instead. Okay fine people make mistakes. However, the way they handled this mistake is awful and nothing but horrendous customer service. I was told I could drive all the way back and exchange the cake or get a refund. Well I have a child sitting waiting for her birthday cake so I need another cake but I feel that due to their errors and me having to drive all the way back there and take candles out of her cake that they should refund me as well. Instead they are RUDE, refuse to refund me and give me the cake I ordered. They also could only offer me two little cakes instead of the one big cake. They were rude, righteous and acted like I was the fool. They messed up and didn't put 13th on the birthday cake. They also messed up and gave me a flavor my daughter doesn't like after I specifically asked multiple times for a white cake. I was a regular customer here but this will be my last time. Go to another bakery if you want good customer service and the right order. One girl, Juliani, the shift leader, was rude and rolled her eyes at us when I was telling them I should be getting refunded and be receiving a cake. read more

This bakery is like my little happy place. Recently I started working in the Granite Plaza and I look forward to seeing Erica and Alyssa - two of my favorite smiling faces, ordering a coffee and having a sweet breakfast treat. They offer delicious homemade breads - so cheap (typically $2-$3), and all types of pastries, cookies, and cakes. I haven't once been disappointed. They have pizza and lunch specials including soups, salads, and sandwiches. There are a few tables, both inside and out, for perching or having a meeting. Such a fan! read more

This place is miserable, it's so deceiving. The store looks cute, the baked goods look nice and tasty, but everything is very deceiving. I gave the bakery here a few tries and it's always disappointing, the quality is poor and the price is up there with Boston prices. Yesterday I walked in there and got a couple of capuccinos. The place was run by kids. It took them 10 mins to make. And when I got it, it was not even drinkable. I threw them away. There was not even a taste or smell of coffee. It smelled like rusted machine oil. Local businesses like this are why places like Starbucks succeed. When I go to local places, I really want to like it and support the stores, but this place is just so plain awful. It tries to do too much, the menu has everything but nothing is done right. Instead of yes or no she just started listing all the chocolate cakes. BTW the answer is no. I then walked over to put in my pizza order and the same girl comes over. I asked for 2 slices hot to eat here. It was put in a bag and in front of me before I could pull my money out. I asked wow that was fast she said it just came from under the heat lamp. I reached in to feel warm pizza and said I wanted it hot so instead of saying oh let me put it in the oven which she should have done in the first place asked me if I wanted it to go in the oven. I responded I want it hot not warm so she asked asked again if I wanted it to go into the oven. First time ever to Montilio's Braintree and I was in love. Came to see what all the hype was about and came away convinced that their reputation has been justly earned. :) Tried their Fresco pizza for lunch and I Loved it. One of my all-time favorites now. Crust was thin but delicious. Sicilian-style (thick) is also available. Must try: sliced tomatoes, feta, balsamic drizzle, basil...simple but oh so good. Pastries were artfully done in substance and design/presentation. I did not sample the cake and since this is what they're known, couldn't justify my giving them 5 starts, but it is likely that they would have satisfied here as well. I had always thought my wedding cake would be a konditor Meister cake and in the end I was right.... I had Montilios cake at a few wedding shows and thought it was AMAZING!! It was so good and moist. These wedding shows made me question Konditor Meister as my favorite place. I think they do their best for their shows. I went in for a tasting and their cake seemed dry, it was not as good as I remembered it being at the show. When they quoted me for the specific cake I wanted it was double what konditor Meister quoted and they wouldn't offer fresh flowers, only gum paste. The guy conducting the tasting, who was not very friendly, filed our an order sheet, I told him that I wanted to try other places first but insisted to fill it out. Then before making me sign it, I asked that this did not mean I was getting my cake from them and he said "it did not mean I was getting the cake and to just call to let them know if I WANTED to officially order it". Fine. Well, a week later I got a rudely worded call asking if I chose to go with them. First of all a week is a short time, I did not have time for another tasting yet since I work full time, so I ignored the call. Then every couple of days twice a day I would get a rude voicemail... they were being downright pushy for a dry cake that would cost double the amount of a Konditor Meister cake. read more

I ordered my mini-wedding cake last year and the full wedding cake (for the reception) this year and both times the cake was fabulous. Guests loved it and they are so easy to work with. Recently ordered a chocolate oreo cake with whipped cream filling and whipped cream frosting. YESSSSS....best decision ever! It was perfectly chocolatey w/out being too sweet. They also make an awesome banana split cake (I get it with fresh whipped cream, of course! is there anything else?) This location in Braintree also serves a little more than their Quincy location - pasta and a good variety of arancini balls (italian rice balls). I have raved about Montilios for years which is why I was so disaappointed recently when we ordered a birthday cake with writing and we brought it home and it didn't have any writing on it. Also I had requested a gold ribbon on it and that was missing too. When I called to politely let someone know she replied "Sorry I'll talk to the staff." My husband picked up the cake I ordered as I was ill so he never questioned the order and never checked it. I thought Montilios would have credited our account some money such as $5 or offered us a gift card for that amount but just an "I'm sorry." We ordered the cake specifically with writing as it was for a birthday person. The cake itself was very good though. First time here for breakfast fare but my family are longtime fans of their cakes. I decided to try it out for a coffee and croissant at 8:30 on a Sunday anticipating a busy place and unfriendly service (according to other yelpers). Neither was true for this visit. We arrived and were promptly waited on and the girls were friendly and patient while we acquainted ourselves with the breakfast offerings. We decided on croissants with egg and cheese and two large coffees which came to about $12. The interior (and exterior) has a few cafe-style tables and chairs (nice ambience) so we sat and waited for about 10 minutes (didn't mind the wait, we had our coffee and a small tv with news on). The sandwiches were great, huge and very filling. While we were there more staff arrived as did more customers. Again the staff greeted everyone promptly and were friendly. Had the WORST ICED CHAI TEA OF MY LIFE. It was way too spicy as if it was ginger tea, I had a few of my coworkers try some and they too agreed that it was way too much Chai than necessary . Customer service was straight up a joke. The young white girl taking our order should be trained again and that's coming from a person that works in customer service. I can tell she's still new at the job but the lack of responsibility is unacceptable. I went to get a birthday cake. The ones got my interested were oreo and a slightly bigger cake with reese. I then asked her for the prices, she has to go and take a look at the prices. Few mins passed by, she told me it was the same price $22. Thinking the Reese is bigger and also same price with the smaller, I'm thinking that's a bang for my bucks. I asked if she can write"Happy Bithday *Friends name*" she seemed hesitant then went to go on do other things, taking other customers and just left the cake there. We waited for about 15 mins and decided to have enough and told them it cannot be that long to write something like that! I find the counter help which I dealt with being very rude. She acted like I was bothering her when I explained that I had picked up a cold and dry pizza. I purchased pastry and pizza that was far from fresh. Upon another visit I told the person behind the counter that my previous pastry purchase was not fresh and she just half smiled and asked what I wanted. I have been coming here for a year now. The service up until now has been exceptional. I went in for a coffee as I do every Sunday after leaving the gym. The young lady waiting was on a man in front of me. She finished with his sale, and then walked away to the other side of the counter where someone had just walked in. I was ignored. They were extremely attentive during the tasting and generous with their servings as well, which is the opposite of our tasting experience at Konditor Meister. My original review still holds true with regards to scheduling the tasting- they need some serious updates to their process! Not a great first experience. Went to get my wife some birthday cupcakes and proceeded right up to the counter to check them out. Not one of the 3-4 employees asked if I (or any of the other couple of customers waiting) needed any help until I had to flag someone down after what seemed like 10 minutes. As NONE of the cupcakes, cookies, or cakes had any labeling whatsoever, I had to guess which ones had a particular flavor my wife would like. I asked the employee about 2 different cupcakes, and he replied that they both had that flavor. Welp - only 1 was right, the other was way off. Having a little more courteous and a lot more knowledgable staff would certainly help with this new location. Maybe labeling at least some of the baked products would be nice ,too. God forbid anyone has any food allergies (Oh wait! A lot of people do nowadays!). People either need to ba able to read what they are buying, or at least be correctly told by someone who knows what they're talking about. read more

I bought a dozen cannolis for Easter @ their Braintree, MA location. They were the worst cannolis we had ever had. Eleven were left, no one wanted them, and my niece that works for the VA hospital ended up taking them in to work with her last night. A total waste of $50. I called to inform the manager today....after being on hold for 5 minutes the first time, then on hold the second time for over 5 minutes and getting disconnected, finally I was able to reach her on the 3rd try and of course did not get any resolution...just a "I'm so surprised to hear you say that". Save yourself the money and do not buy from this establishment. read more
