Came here last weekend for an early lunch. The weather was beautiful so we decided to sit on the patio by the water. We started with drinks- mine a frozen marg, and my husband got a spicy bloody Mary. Both were great and super refreshing. We also ordered boudin and gumbo. The boudin was fantastic, and the gumbo was some of the best we have had in a very long time. For entrees I got the 12 fries shrimp and onion rings as we had planned on sharing, and my husband ordered fried catfish. The shrimp platter was insanely huge and we probably could have just shared that. The shrimp themselves were massive and fried to perfection. The onion rings were delicious as well. I just wanted to give a shout out to the staff at Monty's. Last night we had a Christmas party in the private dining room for about 25 people. Our waiter was Victor and he was amazing, handling the room pretty much by himself. Other staff members were very attentive to the room temperature and regularly checked on how things were going. This was the first place my girl and I went to after moving to Montomery, TX. The place is right on Lake Conroe with a spacious deck for outdoor dinning. The bar is fairly large and comfortable. The entire restaurant is welcoming and a good size. The staff is very friendly, but most importantly very competent. Especially the bar tender Zach. He can make any drink you like and the beer selection is very good. They have a good happy hour with a choice of good snacks and discounts on some drinks. Being local, we've been to Monty's several times. It's always been very solid. On this last visit, we split the Jalapeño Crab Queso & the Boudin Balls. The jalapeño crab queso has a great spice that isn't too overpowering. You definitely feel it, but you keep going back for more. The chips are the "good" chips, if that makes sense. The boudin balls are flavorful & solid! To wash it all down, we had the Loaded Bloody Mary & a Strawberry Margarita. The Bloody Mary is one of the better ones in the area & the margarita was delicious. For our entree, we split a Fried Shrimp Basket. We kind of went ham on the appetizers & the Shrimp Basket is 6 Jumbo Shrimp. More than enough to fill us up. The shrimp was cooked perfectly. To wrap it all up, we shared an order of Pecan Praline Beignets. Delicious and will definitely order them in the future. If you get a chance, ask for Ryan to be your server. Highly recommend grabbing a table on the patio if weather permits! We enjoyed the bang bang shrimp to start, along with the jalapeño crab queso. Both of these menu items were as expected. However, we did get about 10 lbs of crawfish to share amongst the group. We ordered all of the accompaniments that came with the crawfish, as well (ravioli, pickles, eggs, corn, boudin, potatoes, garlic, etc.) The crawfish also came with extra seasoning (spicy), butter, and a remoulade sauce on the side. Place is nice and has a good view of the water from outside with great food, but absolutely horrible service outside. I took my girlfriend there recently and we sat outside and had to wait like 15-20 minutes just for a server to come up to us, then we finally got to order our drink for us to have to sit and wait another 25 minutes for our server to ask for our order. After that we were waiting on our food and were eating our appetizers and our drinks both need to be refilled but our waitress hadn't even came and check on us at all we ended up finishing the appetizers and had to wait a very long time for our food and when it finally came it wasn't even our waitress serving it, so I had to ask the new server for a refill and he went and got the waitress to come refill the drinks. After that we got checked on one more time 5 minutes later after we got our drinks back to make sure the food was good and then when we finished eating sat there for at least 30 minutes waiting to be checked on again and to ask for the check. slowest service I have ever experienced made me never want to come back.
