I came in with one goal: find a comfortable bar seat, watch a soccer match, and enjoy an appetizer and a beer. Mission accomplished! There are two entrances. One that brings you right near the bar and another at the front where you can be greeted and seated by a server. I opted for the bar and kicked off the evening with a beer and the skillet queso. Let's talk about that queso for a second. It was memorable. There was something about the flavor that really stood out and had me going back for "just one more bite" more times than I'd like to admit. The bartender was attentive, there were plenty of TVs showing the match, and the overall atmosphere was relaxed and easygoing. It was the perfect setting to unwind and enjoy the game. I'd definitely come back for another match and next time, I may have to venture beyond the queso and explore more of the menu. read more

Nice dim atmosphere for evening time. What seated and served immediately. I ordered the chicken fried chicken dinner that came with mashed potatoes and white gravy with green beans. It tasted homemade which was lovely. I would add a bit more seasoning to all of it ( I love seasoning and spices ). They should add toast to the meal. The kids chicken strip meal was an actual chicken breast cut and fried which was awesome. Everything was decently priced. Definitely will go back. read more

First, menu changes have removed several of the best items. Steak and eggs disappeared and now the waffle smash burger is gone as well. The last time I ordered the waffle smash burger it was made incorrectly with no bacon, no cheese, and no syrup, and had to be remade. Today I ordered chicken and waffles and specifically asked for no dark meat. The server substituted two thighs instead of a breast and thigh but failed to mention there would be a $10 upcharge. When the food arrived both waffles were hard as a rock. The manager replaced them but only brought one even though the dish comes with two. When the second waffle finally came it was still overcooked. When the bill arrived I was charged $2.99 for an extra waffle that was already part of the meal. I was charged $10 for the substituted chicken thighs which was later only partially adjusted to $5. I was charged $19 each for mezcal margaritas plus an unexplained $8 mezcal upcharge. I have ordered these drinks here since the restaurant opened and have never been charged that before. I also had over $14 in loyalty points that were not applied. In total I was overcharged by more than $23 in unnecessary upcharges. Even after addressing it with the manager the resolution was incomplete and dismissive. By the end of the meal I did not even have the patience to dispute it further. We have supported Southern Ice for a long time but after repeated issues with food quality, menu changes, and now billing games we will not be coming back. Based on today's experience and how poorly this was handled I do not see this place lasting much longer in this location. read more

The restaurant reminds me of your everyday American sports bar restaurant that you see on every corner in Houston.. Dark, lots of tvs and the game on, traditional American menu. Burgers, chicken fried steak, wraps, salads an array of other fried concoctions. Priced reasonable but the appetizers cost almost as much as a full meal. Taste wise we found this to be about as average as your local Chilis. I don't know what the identity is or the unique draw is of this Restaurant and what differentiates if from the 10 others down Kuykendahl. Also, $12-13 for a bowl of queso is criminal. Onions rings were good but you get like 6 of them an almost comical minimal amount in the basket. Blue cheese burger was fine but nothing to rave about. This is a hidden gem. Tucked away behind the HEB and I don't know how we be missed it this long. The decor and vibes are relaxed, but more than your typical icehouse. It's clean and the staff is wonderful. We were sat quickly on a holiday weekend. The menus are great and the prices match. We had the fried pickles and they're my favorite I've ever had. My husband had the Nashville hot chicken sandwich and let me tell you there was nothing left in his place. The flavor was awesome. I had the smashburger and onion rings and both were wonderful. The kids meal my daughter had was chicken tenders and fries and it was a generous serving that she enjoyed. The beer specials were great too. Giving 4 stars instead of 5 because the fried pickles were drenched in oil so much so that the oil was dripping off, and I wish the Beef and Black Bean bowl came with more rice to balance out the sauce better. Came here for a Saturday lunch with my husband. I had a frozen margarita to start which was a tad tart, but still good. We had the southwest egg rolls which were good, but a little cold. I ordered their regular burger with cheese which was really good and I enjoyed their bun they used a lot. Their fries were also great, and my husband ordered a club to go. He really liked the club and said he would definitely get that again. I really liked the vibe of this place and enjoy having a sports bar type spot on the area as they are hard to come by. This was a really enjoyable American food restaurant to relax and enjoy a good food with good friends! This is a newer restaurant and they really provided good food and great service! I was very impressed with the Ambiance and the speed at which food was served. Definitely will come back here again! Came here on a Friday night so first thing I did was call ahead and see if I need to make a reservation for a party of six. They do accept reservations so I highly recommend it just because this is a busy restaurant and if you have a larger group you want to make sure that you don't have to wait. However upon arriving they do have a lot of available seating to keep customers so you don't have to wait outside. Walking in has a very casual and comfortable layout and ambiance. We were seated quickly and immediately greeted by our hostess. She was able to take her orders for drinks and also for appetizers. We started out with regular drinks and also a couple of margaritas which were mixed well! The nacho platter and also the fried pickles are highly recommended! The nacho platter was a really good balance of chips and cheese and also the pickles were fried just right and not too salty or heavily spiced. We ordered our appetizers and probably receive them within 5 minutes which was astounding! After that we ordered our meals and the Philadelphia cheesesteak was delicious! A nice mix of beef and red and green bell peppers served with a side of fries. Other guests at our table ordered hamburgers, salads and also chicken wings. Everybody attested that their food was well prepared and tasted delicious! Our server was a fantastic and kept our drinks filled and had a wonderful attitude! She was able to continue to take care of us during our dinner without being intrusive which is a fine line to walk. The tables were kept clean and dirty dishes were removed quickly to keep the table clear. The temperature and lighting is really comfortable as well as the cleanliness and the seating. Overall, I give the southern ice company two big thumbs up! It's a great place if you're looking for casual dining and want to enjoy casual dining menu items that are prepared well and cooked properly to taste! I ordered their bang bang shrimp and was delightfully surprised. The shrimp was tender but crunchy on the inside, very savory, yet had a slight flare to it. I'm not a huge fan of their slaw, but honestly, I rarely eat the slaw that comes with dishes unless it looks extremely fresh! I was craving something sweet so I ordered their skillet cookie! A great decision! It tastes amazing! The chocolate melted in your mouth! Plenty of seating both booth and tables. Plenty of free parking too! The service I received was amazing! Tucked away in a quaint little plaza off Kuykendahl in the Creekside Park area is a small restaurant housed in what used to be Fuddrucker's - affectionately named Southern Ice. When you walk in - it still looks like it's old inhabitants, however the vibe is more draft and sports. There's a hostess stand that says please seat yourself, yet they are there asking how many need to be seated - a bit confusing. The food was decent! Not my idea of a "good meal" but it wasn't too bad. My boys didn't care for a few things (fries were soggy and overly salted and the salad was not fresh), and my salmon came nearly raw the first time (I asked for well-done). The manager was notified and graciously fixed it and offered my kiddos some dessert for their troubles - and without attitude - so it wasn't a full flop. That said - it was kinda' pricey. And as such, it just wasn't a hit for me. Adding to that - our waitress wasn't very present. She never shared any specials, didn't ask if we had visited before, nor did she stop by frequently to check on us. A couple times I had to flag her down for things - including getting clean dishes and silverware, as we were given dirty ones. Would I come back? Maybe. First experience was great as stated in my previous review. 2 subsequent visits not so great. One thing remains very good and that's the friendliness of the staff. We sit at the bar and the bartenders have all been very personable and helpful. This last visit husband wanted the cod fish and chips and I was hungry for fried shrimp. They have a seafood platter and for $3 let us upgrade the catfish to cod. Cod was way over cooked. All batter, barely any fish. The shrimp on their seafood platter were popcorn/salad shrimp smaller than a quarter. They were so overcooked and chewy as you can imagine since they were so small. $25 for 10 tiny shrimp 3 burnt pieces of cod. Probably won't be back. read more

Food & service was good. The catfish had a good seasoning and the hush puppies were good, but would love to see an offering of jalapeño hush puppies in the future. The turkey club sandy was traditional and fresh. The seasoned fries were tasty and definitely my daughter's favorite of the meal. If you've read my reviews before, you know my kids don't prefer gourmet Mac and cheese, although my daughter ate about half before deciding it was "too fancy" we thought it was good. The restaurant is big and not too loud. Parking was easy and there is outdoor seating for nicer weather. We will come back sometime to try the burgers. read more

So, I have really enjoyed coming to this place. The bar chairs are a big draw (so comfy), USUALLY accompanied by good service and good food!! I wasn't going to write a review but it's bothering me because I don't want to stop going here!!! First off....We sat at the bar and the bartender/server was really nice. Being nice however doesn't constitute a good experience. Sevice was super slow and hard to get her attention. Probably would have spent more time and money there if she had better service habits. I would have been more understanding if it were super busy but it wasn't. Second....my chicken on my salad was bad! Tasted sour! I eat this almost every time we go here. (I know they would have probably fixed it for me but to get help was just gonna take longer and my appetite was ruined anyway). Lastly but most importantly.....and the biggest reason for my review is that I happened to go use the ladies room at the same time as our bartender/server. SHE LEFT WITHOUT WASHING HER HANDS!!!!! SO DISGUSTING!!!!! I can handle some germs without it bothering me....But I draw the line here! Watching her smile and just happily continue serving everyone their drinks and using her gross restroom hands to add limes to some.!!! Just grossed me out!! As the saying goes "what you don't know, doesn't hurt you". That's all fine and good, but I know this because, I saw it first-hand and it disgusted me!
