First time at Monty's Red Sauce! I like the interior design with the portraits on the wall as well as the green color scheme. The restaurant is spacious! The server was super helpful and attentive. I enjoyed the linguine primavera, but it was a bit too salty and oily for my personal preference. Overall, I would return again and try the wine.

I really wanted to like Monty's but I was disappointed by the food. The focaccia bread would've been better if it was warm/toasted. I didn't love my squid ink pasta the flavors were odd because it was sour but that's a personally preference. service was good! calamari was also good--can't mess that up. Kinda pricey for a disappointing experience.

Environment: It was super busy but the area had high ceiling and had a bunch of seats for big and small parties, too. Staff: friendly and attentive Food: 1. I got the spaghetti with meatballs and the meatballs were super tender and they give you 3 large big ones, too! The pasta was cooked nicely and the sauce was very good and mixed well! I guess one downside was that the meatball spices were a bit too heavy for me that I needed some water but other than that, it was good. 2. I was able to get a bite of my friend's tiramisu and it was really nice, soft, strong in flavor, and it was a nice slice that you can technically share with 3-4 people!

My family and I went to Monty's on a Thursday night with a reservation and got seated quickly even though half of our party hadn't arrived yet. We were quickly checked on by our waitress as soon as we sat down. We ordered a few different appetizers and drinks to start. I would recommend the arancini. We didn't realize how HUGE the portions were for main dishes so keep that in mind. I ordered a chicken parmesan and could barely finish it. I found the chicken to be slightly dry for my taste but I really enjoyed the mushroom ravioli. If you're willing to share family style or take home leftovers this was a solid Italian style meal in a cute restaurant and neighborhood!

Finally made my way to Monty's and I cannot wait to go back and try different dishes! The food is delicious and tasteful.

Cute spot for a date night or girls night. We tried a variety of dishes and cocktails and enjoyed pretty much everything- only exception was the breaded chicken added to one dish which was a bit dry. The vodka penne had a delicious sauce and was perfectly cheesy, and we enjoyed the focaccia and mozzarella sticks. The tiramisu was tasty and a massive portion. Cocktails were well-balanced. Friendly service and reasonable prices for the portions make this a spot I'll return to many times.

First time at Monty's. Came here on a whim, so didn't have reservations. But they were able to sit 3 of us right away. It was right when they opened for dinner at 5. The service was impeccable. The food and wine were delicious. I got the linguini Alfredo and the pasta was so good, as was the sauce. The vibe is very Harry Styles visits Portland. Will definitely be back. Cute idea for date night!

Having grown up and lived in NJ for 40 years, I was excited to try Monty's Red Sauce since their menu items were inspired by Italian restaurants in NJ famous for all things marinara and mozzarella. Inside is large and spacious with lots of booths separated by cute red & white checked cafe curtains. It is bright and charming, a family vibe. Service was friendly and efficient. Menu was limited but definitely something for everyone - and very reasonably priced. You won't find basic pasta dishes ridiculously overpriced like at most Italian restaurants in Portland. This is a casual, affordable, family restaurant Thank-you, Monty's! We ordered the burrata for an appetizer that came with some arugula and toasted Italian bread. It was good, nothing exceptional, but we weren't expecting it to be more than it was. Burrata needs no glorification, it's delicious as is. . For dinner, I chose the chicken parmesian as that is classic east coast, NJ Italian. The chicken breast was pounded thin, breaded and fried, topped with marinara and mozzarella. It was enough for 2 people or two meals! Very tasty. Unfortunately, I can't say the same for the accompanying spaghetti which was overcooked and tasteless. No bite to it at all. My friend ordered the penne la vodka with sausage and it was clearly the star of the night. The pasta was cooked perfectly al dente. The sauce was rich and flavorful, enhanced by the spicy ground sausage. I will go back just for this dish! Although I would have loved to check out their tiramisu, we were too full to order dessert. Next time!

The best chicken masala I've ever had! We first had reservations for six people, but they were so nice and they let us added a few more people and it was just amazing. The service is top-notch. We came here for my mother-in-law's birthday and were not disappointed. They had a wonderful kids menu which our kids ordered off of and loved everything. It felt like we were on vacation. Such a welcome here vibe like you were a guest at someone's house! We will be coming back for suer. Such a great place for families and big gatherings!

Considering how their original sister restaurant, Montelupo Market, is one of my favorite restaurants in town, I've left Monty's both times feeling like it should really be a lot better. The dishes here are just bland. Not terrible, but just lacking flavors. The butter lettuce salad somehow didn't taste like much. The blue cheese dressing surprisingly added nothing to it, barely even blue cheesy. The calamari and burrata a similar meh story. For a restaurant with Red Sauce is the name, the red sauce here is super plain. Doesn't stick to the pasta hardly at all. The meatballs were really the only thing I've had here that had some decent flavor. It seems their trying the old American formula that enormous portion sizes equal good food, but I'm not falling for it. I will say the portion sizes are fair for the prices. The inside is nicely done and gets great afternoon light. Special shout out to the mid/late 80's music they had playing on a recent visit. The service and has always been friendly. But with Gino's and La Cena so nearby, this would be my 3rd place go-to for Italian in Sellwood.

Wild mushroom ravioli... so rich and delicious. Also a peak at a Caesar salad.

Delicious food and ginormous servings! You for sure could share a portion, but why? It's even better as leftovers the next day! Service was good, wine was good. Nice to have an old school type Italian joint in the hood!

I came here on a Friday night with a reservation for 8pm. It was pretty busy so I'm glad we had the reservation. It's a spacious restaurant so it didn't feel cramped. There are a lot of negative reviews focused on the staff. And I would admit our waitress was not very friendly but she took our order and brought our food. So I don't really care. She did the important stuff. I ordered the focaccia plate, Cesar salad, ravioli bolognese and the tiramisu. Everything was great. The Caesar salad was shockingly super delicious and we ordered the small to share and it was a lot for three people. Focaccia was great but that's expected. And the ravioli did not disappoint. However, I would recommend you do not miss out on the tiramisu. It was dreamy and I have never had it so good.

This was our first time at Monty's, the portions were nice and big. The meatballs and polenta were VERY rich, buttery and yummy! We also ordered the fried ravioli which were super creamy. We went on a weekday and had no problem getting a table without a reservation but it did start to get busier after we sat down.

These are not leftovers. This is the chicken Parm. The chicken was extremely tough.

Dearest gentle readers,…read more A most scandalous correction must be issued how careless of me. The establishment in question is none other than the divine Grassa, a name that now rolls off the tongue with the same richness as its most indulgent fare. And oh, what fare it is. Here, along the lively stretch of Portland, one may witness noodles brought to life before their very eyes fresh, authentic, and handled with a confidence that borders on audacity. These delicate strands are then enrobed in a mac and cheese so decadently composed, so brazenly elevated, that it dares to redefine comfort itself. And just when one believes it cannot be improved enter the pig belly. Crisp, tender, and unapologetically rich... a finishing touch that transforms the dish into something whispered about in only the most exclusive of circles. Yes, dear reader, this is the sort of indulgence that lingers long after the final bite... the kind that ruins lesser versions without remorse. And so, with that final truth properly set, I take my leave once more. The tales of this fair city draw to a close, but not without leaving behind a most delicious legacy. Until our next adventure ever eastward. Yours most faithfully,

The mac and cheese was recommended to us and was definitely not a lie. Sweet, slightly spicy(not really), creamy, and tangy. A perfect blend of the best flavor profiles with sauce hoarding pasta. It's a life regret to not order this dish. Everything else was also very solid. I really enjoyed the refreshing flavors of the burrata dish and the Brussel sprouts were a necessary addition of vegetables.

I've been to southern Italy (Amalfi Coast) and the authenticity shines through. Piazza's menu is northern Italian and traditional the Italian American marriage we all know and love.
