Heard so much about Dimo's and finally made it in one day for lunch. Craving mortadella, I ordered a sandwich that comes with mortadella and added stracciatella cheese which is so creamy and pairs nice with mortadella. The bread was flat and crisp, Roaman style which I love, but definitely grilled too long as the char was a bit overwhelming. Inside is so cute! Lots of different seating areas with a variety of framed paintings in the walls, chandeliers, a small market area, and a full bar with lots of seating. Really want to try their pasta so I will be back for dinner, for sure! Parking is tight, I came before the noon crowd so got the last spot in their lot. Half of Dimo's eggplant caesar salad sandwich caused me to fall into a near-catatonic state, incapacitating me for the remainder of my workday. I listened to a 1-hour loop of Camila Cabello's Never Be the Same 3 times in a row and stared into space, barely avoiding sleep. I fear I am not strong enough to consume even a portion of their delicious sandwiches. Despite the nap coma, the sandwich was wonderful, and I will be returning. The fried eggplant was peppery and salty without being overly oily. I do wish that the sandwich had more lettuce inside, but I really enjoyed every part of it. The bread was particularly good: it was fluffy, had the perfect amount of chewiness, and was an appropriate thickness (thin enough to easily take a bite, thick enough to enjoy the bread's flavor with each mouthful). I think that $17 for a sandwich is pretty steep, but half was enough to fill me, and I was very hungry before eating. You could easily split a sandwich with a friend. I also tried their peanut butter-miso cookie. The peanut butter flavor came through strongly and reminded me of a Nutter Butter cookie. Unfortunately, I could not taste the miso, and the cookie was quite dry. I have heard great things about their Rainbow dessert (sorry, I forget the name), so I will give it a try next time. Parking was rough around lunchtime, so you may have to circle the block a few times before finding a spot. Italian dining the way its supposed to be done. An experience that includes filling atable with dishes and glasses. Dimo's is the kind of place that makes you want to stay and linger. The dishes are more like tapas, especially if you consider ordering off the antipasta side of the menu, and can be shared to create a really family-style dinner. They have good cocktails, a decent wine list, and the coolest atmosphere. It's really like you're eating in an old European dining hall. The warehouse feel and the high ceilings give a sort of back alley kind of ambiance. The servers are kind and attentive but most of all efficient. The place runs very smoothly and perhaps that's what makes it so inviting to want to just stay at the table and keep talking and lingering. Filling the table with dishes from so many different types of food and as many glasses as we could, we enjoyed a stellar evening together. If I had one piece of advice for eating here, it would be to make your meal family style. Order as many plates as you can and share them. This will allow you to get the true authentic feel for the restaurant. I know we'll be back. read more

This review is 99.9% for the lunch / deli menu. We LOVE Dimo's Apizza & have been wanting to try the newer Italian Specialties space next door that does lunch & dinner. We made it in & the lunch menu is solid, featuring a variety of big beautiful sandwiches. We ordered a spicy vodka chicken parm to split & it was perfection! The house-made sesame baguette is the perfect base, light & soft inside with a nice slightly crunchy outside. The sauce had really great flavor & the whole thing was topped with a pile of fresh basil & that fire arugula pesto! We weren't sure splitting a sandwich was going to be enough food but it was plenty, very nice portion. The only thing that I'd add next time is an extra side of sauce for dipping! We got some Italian flag cookies to-go & will definitely be getting those again, yum. In terms of the dinner service...(which my rating does not reflect) we made reservations to ring in the New Year here & surprisingly had a very frustrating, disappointing experience. Dropped by to try their Grinders for lunch and I really enjoyed them! Super big and filling; full of fresh and high quality ingredients. One sandwich is good for two people honestly but we tried the Chicken Ceasar and the Pork Raab. The Chicken Ceasar was an easy winner for me. Love the crunchy lettuce and their Chicken Cutlets were super tender. They don't skim on the filling at all. The freshness of the lettuce paired amazingly with the toasty and nutty Sesame Bageutte. The Pork Raab was nice but softer and mushier than what I'd have liked. Both sandwiches could use a tad more salt and seasoning though. Love the casual and cozy vibe. I love Dimo's pizza and when I found out they had a deli restaurant next to the pizza joint, I couldn't wait to try it out. My sister and brother in law wanted to try their burger week special, the Fonduta, and I couldn't resist. They do have their own parking lot which is nice but street parking isn't too bad either. As I approached the deli, you order at the counter. I ordered food and a beer to go with the meal. I like that there was plenty of seating and the atmosphere was pleasant. Food arrived promptly and the burger looked and smell amazing. I was impressed by the generous fondue sauce that was provided. Even my nephew loved the sauce and we agreed it was a winner. We stopped in at Dimo's Italian Specialties to try the Fonduta burger for Portland Burger Week. The burger was delicious and I loved dipping it in the cheese sauce. I found the cheese to be slightly too salty for my taste. The restaurant was clean and interestingly decorated. Customer service was friendly and quick. Dimo's is interesting. Its easiest described as 3 separate concepts: 1. The Pizzeria to the left 2. The Deli and Bakery (same spot) open until 4pm 3. The Supper Club (same location as Deli) 5pm-9pm. I tried #2 and #3. Starting with the Deli/Bakery: I ordered their Italian Grinder, 2 doughnuts (fig and nutella), took home a sesame baguette and a chocolate chip cookie. Everything was quite good, nothing stood out. The cookie was dry, a bit overbaked and with teeny tiny chocolate chips (not my preference, I like chunks) but otherwise ok. It will hit the spot in a fix. The doughnuts (i think they call them bonbone?) were ok too. The dough itself was fluffy and nice, but the fig custard filling texture was curdled and a bit mealy. The taste of the filling was good though. The nutella was better but there wasn't quite enough filling. The sesame baguette was good, I enjoyed some sandwiches at home with it, likely my favorite item! The Italian Grinder was solid but not exciting. The dressing had gotten soggy in my 10min drive home. I think if a deli will dress sando's with wet dressings they should put them on the side for to-go orders. It could've also used a smidge more meat but otherwise I liked it and would return to try some other sandwiches there. The Supper Club: Holy Moly, what a value!! For $55 per person you can do a prix fixe tasting menu and boy do they deliver the goods. The amount of food for the price was exceptional, you WILL have leftovers. There's definitely talent in this kitchen, even if not every item was perfect. To begin, our Frito Mixto was exceptional. The seafood was so fresh and perfectly cooked, as were the other fried items. The sauce it came with was fantastic, but could use a smidge of vinegar to be a true agridulce, as is often served alongside fried seafood appetizers in Italian restaurants. Still, loved this! The Meatballs were great too, very tender. The Arancini's were a highlight. They were filled with cheese and mushroom and perfectly fried. These are a MUST get item here. Sadly, the Cannelloni Bean and Broccoli Raab is a skip. Do not get this item. There was no broccoli to be found, so I imagine it was pureed into the beans. The dish was essentially a pile of mush, and not very tasty mush either. That said, chef's take chances with Supper Clubs like these and I do not expect every dish to be a winner. The Lasagna was another we'd skip next time. It was SO oily and also just a big pile of mush. I like very traditional, al dente, clear delineation of layers, etc. This tasted like Cafeteria food. Definitely a skip next time. The Short Rib was good but wasnt paired with any traditional item to soak up the traditional collagen-rich sauce (mashed potatoes, polenta, etc). It was just ribs and sauce, thats it. Still, it was good. I have to repeat the generosity of the portions to price ratio for the Supper Club. $55 isnt inexpensive, but it is VERY fair when you consider the quality and quantity of food delivered here! Im hoping the talented chef(s) here will continue to refine these recipes and mix it up with new items as well. Will definitely return to eat dinner here again as I love this type of food concept with varying seasonal menu's and fairly priced chef's tasting style. It just makes for a fun night! I should add, the place itself is very cozy and inviting and would be perfect for dinner with a group or a date night. The wine bottle menu in particular was impressive too. read more

Located in the old Burnside Brewing locale, they have a nice patio and inside is set up pretty cool as well, pizzeria on one side and sandwiches/pasta on the other side with a nice taplist. I believe the sandwich menu is Philly based, Cheesesteaks, Roasted Pork & Broccoli Raab and so forth on a sesame seed hoagie roll, high quality ingredients. We came in for some sandwiches on a weekend and ordered the cold Italian ($17) and the hot pork roast raab ($18). You order at the counter and they bring your food out. Counter service was fast and sandwiches came out quickly. Food was decent and the space reminded me of a brewery. We also each had a beer which I think was $8 a piece if I remember correctly. Myself and our party of seven rolled into Dimo's Italian specialties on a random Sunday and were quickly accommodated by the attentive staff. We had left an overcrowded and overhyped restaurant that was not able to get us in for another three hours. After being seated, we decided to order almost the entire menu, except for 3 items at the bottom of it. Our drinks and first plates came out quickly and, after a few bites, we knew we were in for a treat. The salads (Endive Caesar and the Kale + Radicchio) were an instant highlight of the meal. We loved everything in the first two sections, but the pasta is where they really shine. If I was forced to choose favorites, it would be the mind blowing bucatini and deeply savory spaghetti nero. We were ROLLING out of there and did not have any room for dessert - which only means we'll have to return! The only thing this place is missing is a lot more promotion and word of mouth. I count myself fortunate to have been to Dino's Supper Club twice since they opened. The food was delicious, the service outstanding, and the feel in the restaurant lovely. They're working out a few kinks in when and how dishes come out from the kitchen, but that did not impact our good experience. Our dishes included the prosciutto plate, the endive Caesar (amazing!), the meatballs, the lasagna, the rigatoni, and our table's favorite, the bucatini.
