The food was absolutely delicious! I ordered the beef nachos and shrimp soft tacos. The nachos were good, but I wouldn't say they were the best in town. I've definitely had tastier nachos elsewhere. The shrimp soft tacos, though, were amazing! I'm not sure if I'd call them the best I've ever had, but they were definitely above average and really hit the spot. You can't go wrong with shrimp tacos when they're made with fresh ingredients! Overall, it was a great choice for an office lunch. I'd recommend doing a group order for pickup since the prices are reasonable. The restaurant is pretty small, so there aren't many seats if you're planning to dine in. This place wouldn't survive in L.A. or San Diego. Tried most of their taco "carnes" late Thursday morning and they were almost all very dry like they had been sitting around all day. How is this possible at 11 am? Worse, most are flavorless. This place is massively overhyped, Santa Barbara doesn't know good Mexican food, we hit them on a bad day (I doubt it) or some combo of the above. Their pollo asado and pollo mole (let's just toss some mole sauce on the pollo asado but not really mix it) were exceedingly dry and pollo asado should be chicken thigh and moist. Carne asada was at least not crappy steak but nothing special. Barbacoa was the best meat on the menu, bar none. Al pastor and adobada were seemingly the same thing, one diced more finely. Chorizo isn't worth ordering at all and very average and not worth the calories. Cabeza was fine. Did you want a chicharón taco that isn't crunchy? You'll find it here! Very disappointed and very mid. Won't likely be back. 1 more star for super friendly service but these were just not good. read more

Hate to be a downer but I am confused about the hype. Multiple people told me this was their favorite Mexican place in Santa Barbara. Came on a Tuesday at lunch with a group and I had 3 tacos, asada and al pastor with rice, beans, chips, guacamole and green salsa. There was a long line out the door and not a lot of open seating but there is fast service and turn over. Once we ordered we found seats and our food was out in about 10 mins. I was disappointed in the flavors. The meats did not stand out, did not taste seasoned or flavorful and the green salsa was so plain. The guacamole also was very plain. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing? Seeing how crazy this place was on social media, I decided to give it a shot. My family and I were in SB for the fourth and went early just in case there was a long line. We got there around 11:00 before the lunch rush. There was about 3 people in line so we got excited it wasn't crazy. We ordered the chips and guacamole, tripas burrito, adobado tacos, carne asada tacos, and a quesadilla. The guacamole and chips were good but it was a bit salty. The food took awhile to come out and it caught our attention because it wasn't that busy. The tacos came out and honestly I couldn't even tell if the meats were different. They looked exactly the same. It was SUPER salty too. The quesadilla was also salty so this seems to be a theme for Mony's. The tripas burrito was falling apart and not a lot of meat. It was a little difficult for my husband to eat it. Overall the food was not all that social media hyped it up to be. There is very limited seating and you feel like people are rushing you while they are standing in line. So it would be better to go if you are checking this place out. So while this is not technically a review for Mony's on Anacapa in Santa Barbara, I still wanted to give a shout out. Unfortunately, the Mony's at UCSB does not have a Yelp page yet for some reason. I typically do not eat on campus at UCSB, but this place is the exception. I come here once a week for a cheap meal. The burritos are huge. They're always so warm and delicious. The people who work there are so nice and friendly and eventually even remembered my name! I am pretty sure this is also the only place on campus to get beer if you want to! Such a cute spot!!!! This was really close to my hotel and I was starving- so I picked the closest spot. It worked out well because it's super affordable, especially for the area. I got 2 tacos, one asada and one barbacoa with tomatillo salsa of course. Both were tasty, I preferred the asada personally! The staff was friendly and the service was super fast, which was exactly what I needed. They have a couple of tables outside but it's a tiny little spot that's more for grab and go. Since my nickname is Mony, I had to try Monys tacos. I've been coming here every time I come to Santa Barbara for vacation which has been ever year since 2019. I have not had anything bad from their menu. I think my husband and I have tried almost all of their various meats. I think pastor is my favorite. They have limited hours so I usually plan our try based on when they are open. They are conveniently located in the funk zone and are close so some of the best wine bars and breweries. Add Monys tacos to your itinerary, it may be a little hole in the wall spot but it so worth a try. read more

It had been a while since I've been to Mony's and while their look has changed a bit from my last visit, their food is just as delicious as I remember. I used to come a lot when I lived in SB and it became one of my favorite places to frequent. Great options, great flavor, and great salsas; the trifecta you're looking for in a Mexican restaurant. My go to became the hard shell barbacoa tacos. This was recommended to me years ago by one of the señores that works there as a cook and I've never gone back since. The perfect crisp wrapping succulent barbacoa meat. Simply perfection! You really can't go wrong with any meat options offered for their dishes. One major change from their remodel was the removal of indoor seating and the self-serve salsa bar which is a bummer but they're still there for you to request them. Love their green salsa, guacamole salsa, and peanut salsa. Service has always been great and friendly. My only issue with them is I wish they'd be open longer hours. The first time we came here, I really enjoyed their tacos -- they were flavorful enough to make me want to come back and try more. This time, we ordered burritos, guacamole, chicken quesadilla, and a torta. The quesadilla was okay with a good serving size, and the torta was just alright. The burrito was decent too, but it had a lot of rice and the beans could use a little more seasoning. Our favorite is definitely still the tacos! I'll come back for their tacos, chips, and guacamole -- those are worth it. The jamaica drink was really good too -- it tastes freshly brewed from dried hibiscus flowers, not artificial at all. Located in a cute district, everything is done outdoors. you wait in line outside to order and then you get a table right outside and they bring the food to you. We got their carne asada burrito and chicken bowl and two tacos. One carnitas and one chorizo. The burrito was pretty good. Nice and toasty on the outside. We were craving tacos and decided to give Mony's a try for a mid-week late lunch. Our group ordered the Mony's bowl with barbacoa, tacos with chorizo and tinga de pollo, and the beans & cheese burrito. The bowl was a hit - the barbacoa was delicious, the rice & beans were great, and everything tasted very fresh. Tacos were also great! The chorizo was outstanding and the tinga was incredibly delicious. The burrito was tasty but wasn't the star of the show. We also LOVE their habanero salsa - it's delicious. 8 years ago, while driving from LA to Santa Cruz, I suddenly had a craving for tacos around Santa Barbara. I searched for a taco place and found Mony's Mexican Food. Today, Mony's has been my family's must-visit restaurant whenever we are in Santa Barbara.  Mony's is easily one of the better taco spots in Santa Barbara, and well worth a stop. They have a wide selection of tacos, including shrimp and fish tacos. The meat is definitely tasty and well-seasoned. I like that they get creative, concocting salsas with a modern theme and non-traditional ingredients. Their salsa bar offers about 8 traditional and fusion salsas, including mango. Overall, this place delivers reliable, satisfying tacos with good variety and quality touches that set it apart from most nearby options. Was craving a good burrito and when I saw all the good reviews for this place and the long lines I called to try the barbacoa burrito but it was very disappointing, unfortunately. Not only was it not that good but it was expensive.... Overpriced, for what? not for the taste and not for the quality... the taste was the biggest disappointment for me. I've had some GOOD barbacoa and I was so hungry when I ordered, that the price made me think it must be pretty damn good, if you're gonna be charging $15 for a burrito it better be.... it was a decent size... but it's disappointing when you don't like the flavour.. the rice and beans too were lacking in flavour... the salsa was mid... Mony's was one of my favorite Mexican food spots while I attended UCSB, so I had to take my friends here while visiting the area. Even on a Friday at 2:30 pm, a line formed after we arrived. We ordered inside and sat outside (no indoor seating). I loved that they had the Jarritos soda in the guava flavor, something that you don't see often. I ordered the Mony's burrito, which comes with tortilla chips and your choice of 3 salsas. I chose the mango, roasted tomato, and avocado salsas. The toasted tortilla wrapped everything together well, and the ratio of all the fillings was perfect. The cabeza was so tender, flavorful, and definitely worth the extra $3. Sadly, I'm deducting a star because of the tripas, which used to be my favorite. In the past, it was deliciously fatty and crispy, but this time around, the tripe was chewy, rubbery, tough, and not fried. I'm not sure if this was a one-off or if they changed the recipe, but it was not the same nor as good as it used to be. I'd still recommend this spot though! read more

The salsa bar is one of the best in town much less anywhere I've been. The pistachio salsa is to die for as is the avocado salsa. The carnitas tacos , chorizo tacos, lengua tacos are our favorites here, but pretty much anything on the menu is delicious! The service is warm & friendly, the ambiance is that of a classic taco joint with a little more style. The close early and sell out of some of their best so get there early and enjoy. Go too fast and you'll miss it....well except for the occasional line. This venue small, even their sign is small. They have outdoor seating. No reservations. It's very casual. Know certainly is NOT small? The food portions! You get a decent bang for your buck. The food is well seasoned and flavorful. It comes with homemade tortilla chips. They have about 7 different flavors of homemade salsa. They offer pistachio, peanut, habanero, pineapple, avocado, roasted pepper, and mango. While they were all good, I liked the mango best. I ordered 4 tacos with asada, chicharron, chorizo, and chile verde as my proteins. The chicharron was my favorite! So juicy and melted in my mouth. Each meat was incredibly flavorful. I appreciate the fact that they do not skimp on the tacos, everything is loaded up! Each plate also comes with chips and you have a huge variety of salsa to choose from, all complimentary! I have NO idea what kind of Mexican food people in this area have been eating. The reviews that say this is hands down the best, is a far stretch and comical. Tacos and salsa were TRASH compared to the flavors and taste of Mexican food in L.A. I was beyond disappointed with the chicken tacos. Meat was absolutely dry, tasted boiled and flavorless. I was curious why I kept seeing g people buy bags of chips because I never saw REAL containers of salsa, actual chunky salsa to go with them. The green salsa was somewhat palatable. The barbacoa plate was a 10/10, full of flavor and such a huge portion of food! The mole taco in my wife's opinion was a 10/10, fish taco was a 10/10, and the chicken tinga was a 8 out of 10. We had to wait a little bit for a shaded table, but the turnover is pretty quick and I would imagine people would share space if available. This is a perfect stop before a day in the Funk Zone (breakfast burritos) or a lunch stop when you want casual and delicious. The staff is super friendly and made some great recommendations. We split a Breakfast Burrito with Pico de Gallo and eggs, Mexican rice, Peruano beans, queso, onions, cilantro and crema wrapped in a lightly toasted flour tortilla. And a Burrito Al Pastor with Mexican rice, Peruano beans, queso, onions, and cilantro in a lightly toasted flour tortilla. This also had some pineapple in it, which gave it a little sweet kick. There are many Mexican restaurants in Santa Barbara, but Mony's is one of the best in terms of the quality of food in my opinion. During our weekend stay in SB one of our uber drivers was raving on about Mony's and giving it a try if we had time during our stay. For our last morning we were in the area and remembered the high review we hear about this place so decided to give it a try. There was a short line and we ordered first. My partner ordered the green chilaquiles and added avocado and carnitas. I ordered the breakfast burrito of egg and bacon but it was mainly just beans and rice. I can see why this would be a favorite for the clientele but if you are use to authentic Mexican food and from LA this is a majorrrrrr low. We were so disappointed that this was our last meal in SB. If you are into gringo Mexican food than this may be the place for you... none of the salsas having any spicynesss in it told me everything I needed to know about this place lol. read more
