Yes! Well almost. Jon Anderson formerly of Yes rolled into town last night. Perfect venue for him and his band of Geeks! The Moody Performance Hall is a smaller venue designed for multi use. However, without compromise. Seating only 750 patrons,there's not a bad seat in the house. Acoustics are almost perfect, comfortable seats,easy parking. I can't say enough good things about this space. Problem is,Dallas has so many venues, getting back here may take awhile. Obviously Jon Andersons peeps did their homework on selecting this auditorium to showcase Jon's skills,still viable at 80 years old! His singing and music still thrills after decades. An interesting aside. As a young man,I saw him with Yes just down the street in 1972! That would have made him 27! Here we are 53 years later and he's singing not only classic Yes Hits but very good recent music he has written. If you get a chance,check out Moody Performance Hall,you won't be sorry. January 26th, 2020 was my first and only visit to the Moody Hall thus far. American Soprano Angel Blue was performing on a quiet Sunday afternoon in the Dallas Arts District. Getting to this area is quite easy off the freeway, but parking is limited to paid garage parking only and little to no street parking. Rideshare or getting a friend to drop you off in front of this concrete grey modern building, is your easiest transportation option. A good friend from Seattle whom is a Dallas Art season ticket holder and supporter of all things cultural, was treating us to a show. Her hotel provided shuttle service from her property location to Moody Hall. We tipped him a few bucks and went on our way. Which worked out really well. Once inside we picked up our Angel Blue program's and walked around a bit. We had a few minutes before the performance started. And since it was my first visit there, I wanted to take a few photos. It's an intimate venue, with roughly 750 seats and three seating tiers. During our 2pm visit, it was not yet dark enough for lights to be on, inside or out. The romantic in me loves a well light room, full of muted tones and hues. But with their floor to ceiling, two panel stained glass installation. With colors of Van Gogh rich yellow's, lapis blue's, and soft Chrysanthemum white's, popped with January winter daytime light filtering through their foyer. It's was a special beginning to a very entertaining afternoon. As we found our way to our upper left 2nd tier raised stage seats, we realized our seats were not next to each other. A very kind guest changed seats so I could be closer to the stage and sit next to my out of town friend. Nice people really do exist. Of course I offered to buy the thoughtful lady a drink from the concession, but she declined. Once the stage lights dimmed, my ears and eyes were in for a royal treat. Ms. Angel Blue has a voice that any heavenly angel would envy. She sang several arias, and other works that blew my mind. Angel had a Russian vocal coach, and learned the language and sang a Russian ballad this particular performance. Now that is talent folks!! Incredible. Amazing. Bravo indeedy!! I would highly recommend a trip down to this performing hall when you can. During our intermission, we walked back to the foyer to stretch our legs. People of all ages were enjoying this show, which is fabulous. My favorite talk, was with a dad & young son. They were spending quality time together taking in a fine performance. Indeed. We must plant seeds of culture to kids, how else with they grow up to appreciate the finer things in life. read more

I took my two kids to see a show here and it is a spectacular intimate space to watch a performance. The parking underneath is convenient. There were free drinks liquor and sodas included as we walked in with snacks to purchase for the kids to keep them tranquil. I will certainly be back for another performance. Everything went smooth and the family bathrooms were spacious and numerous. read more

This is a nice big performance space. They have a bar upfront which is perfect for the adults. No food which I can understand. I attended a symphony here and the acoustics were really good. The only negative is that the chairs leave something to be desired and were uncomfortable by the end of the show. read more

I've attended various types of performances here: musical, TED Talk SMU, and choral; all have been presented with excellent sound in this modern setting. Whether on the main floor or in the balconies, there is not a bad seat in this house! At the TED Talks, the very large bi-level open lobby provided ample space for food service and 'breakout' activities; although it can get rather loud, as to be expected with a high ceiling space. This performance hall is a great medium sized venue for the Dallas Arts District! read more

I've had the pleasure of both performing and attending a performance at the Dallas City Performance Hall and have had great experiences as both a performer and an attendee. I'm part of the Women's Chorus of Dallas (twcd.org - shameless plug here), and we had our holiday performance at this venue in December. We have an upcoming program for Women's History Month here next week and I can't wait to sing on this stage again! The facilities and staff are so accommodating. I am impressed with the dressing room area. There are two opposite of each other with tons of mirrors and great lighting, a shower, and lockers. In between the rooms, there is a common area for everyone to congregate before the show. They also have two private dressing rooms separate of the big ones as well. Backstage was spacious with lots of great technology and equipment to give our stage managers visibility to what's going on on-stage. There were many options with lighting, and the natural acoustics of the place was just great! As an attendee of the Turtle Creek Chorale performance, I got to experience this venue as a guest. I just love the look and feel of the space, very modern, and almost "spa-like" with the stone walls. The venue isn't overwhelmingly big, and seems like you could see the stage pretty well from every seat. Again, the acoustics of the place is just phenomenal - the sound really projects into the audience which works great with choral performances. This venue is located in the heart of the Arts District, but it is a little bit hard to find. Parking is also not too convenient as the lot underground sometimes is closed for certain members only. There is a pay lot $5 across Ross Street that is probably the cheapest and easiest. read more

A relatively small space when compared to the Meyerson or Bass Hall, what it lacks in space it makes up for in design. The modular, modern aesthetic from the stage, to the seating, and especially the walls are what really appeals. I appreciate the wood detailing in contrast with the concrete floors and the seats are much roomier than other PACs. The lobby space is small, but fitting for the size of the theatre. The balcony is much higher than most and does not offer any box seating but rather airplane-like rows. I will add an edit to my review after the performance to note the sound quality. read more

We've never been to this theater (recently renamed to Moody after a ton of money was bequeathed), but we'll be back. Thank you Moody family. Enjoyed a recital here on a Sunday afternoon. I was worried about the seating - from the photos the seats looked uncomfortable, but they're actually quite comfortable with padding and also quite roomy. I didn't feel like I was linking arms with the person next to me. The sound was great and I like the smallish venue. We'll be back and I look forward to it! read more

I've had the pleasure of attending two concerts here, and the acoustics are always on point. The venue is smaller and less extragant than the neighboring Winspear and Meyerson but provides a more intimate feeling in relation to fellow audience members and the performers. There is no bad seat in the concert hall, and the LED lights provide another detailed aspect that adds to the experience. The lobbies are expansive and conducive for conversation. I'd recommend parking at the One Arts Plaza behind Tei-An and 7-Eleven as it's probably the least expensive in the area (around $6). Sign up for email to the Dallas Symphony to get the latest info on concerts and special performances. I was fortunate to see the talented Bryce Dessner incorporate elements of the electric guitar into his score "St. Carolyn by the Sea" this past weekend. read more

Went here for the Stand Up, It's Miller Time Comedy Show and we had a great time. The Performance Hall is very nice, loved the comfy seats and set up. I don't know what other events they have here but we were thinking it would be a great place to hold a Greek/Step-Show. It's not too big and not too little, the sound system needs some slight upgrading. There isn't free parking (duh, it's downtown), but there's plenty of surface lots in walking distance. Let me edit that - the free street parking is only for an hour, not sure how often they police the area for compliance but I'd rather not test my luck lol... read more

Beautiful new addition to the downtown arts district located just across the street from the Booker T Washington high school. I've been here twice to see a string quartet concert as well as the Dallas Chamber Symphony. I live close enough to walk here, and the walk is very pleasant through the arts district with its wide tree-lined sidewalks and friendly lighting. The venue is modern and beautiful inside. The lobby is wood paneled with high ceilings. The walls and ceilings inside are minimalist and concrete, but very tastefully done. Inside the hall, the seating is again of a simple but elegant design. It is on the small side, seating perhaps several hundred. The ceiling of the hall is lit a brilliant blue with lots of wood paneling hanging to improve the acoustics. Both of the performances here were fantastic, and the acoustics are really great for a small chamber music group. Tchaikovsky's "Serenade for Strings" sounded beautiful by the Dallas Chamber Symphony and the notes would ring in the air after every final stroke. read more

I saw a staged reading of a musical here and the acoustics were very good. Beautiful spacious lobby and not a bad seat in the house. It would also be a great place to have a film screening, or a fundraiser. read more

Pretty cool place. It's kinda weird how only one entrance to aisles. On the sides you can't get thru where it would be obvious to have space there. Instead people try and step over railing. Otherwise cool spot. Main entrance really warehousey and bigger bathrooms would have been a plus. read more

When Dallas set up its arts district it really pulled out all the stops. This place is freaking beautiful. The auditorium seating is comfortable, and the view and acoustics are fantastic from the upper level. Be careful though, due to the great acoustics, whoever is on stage can hear you, wherever you are! So no back talk. read more

Wow - what a beautiful venue! My hubby surprised me with Dallas Chamber Symphony tickets for Valentine's Day. They played the familiar Appalachian Springs ensemble and then a beautiful score to a silent film. It was a hilarious! The seating is fantastic and the performance hall is gorgeous. Came by on Wednesday to catch the last night of the Dallas Black Dance Spring Fiesta performance. The Performance Hall is beautiful in a very functional way. The acoustics are very lively. I went here to watch the 50 shades parody and I was very happy with my experience. I haven't been to the performance hall since I was in high school and it sure has changed a lot! The building was beautiful and I loved the tall windows. The staff was amazing and so friendly. I really enjoyed the musical and it helped that we had very comfortable seats! I had a great view of the stage even sitting on the balcony and a bit further back. I look forward to coming here again! read more

The architecture of this building, along with the other building in the Dallas Arts District, can be easily categorized as modern elegance. This building also has an understated elegance on its exterior and interior. The staff (ticket sales, concessions, ushers, and information) are all extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and possess upbeat sunny personalities. Went to see the Turtle Creek Chorale doing "Ragtime". The heat was excessive. We were sweating and dozing off because of it as were other patrons around us. The seats were VERY uncomfortable. Hard wood with no padding, upright and no give. Left my back in such spasms that we had to leave and miss the second act. Other patrons around us were fidigiting and trying to get comfortable.The staff extremly rude. When asked about lowering the heat during intermission, I was told, "There is absolutly nothing we can do, enjoy the rest of the show" I asked to speak to someone in charge and again I was told, "I told you there is nothing that cn be done. Go back to your seat". Emails to the Hall about the excessive heat and uncomfortable seating have all gone unanswered. We will NEVER again be attending ANY preformance at this facity, regardless fo whom it is. read more
