Excellent!! This is our new favorite restaurant. We just stopped in to try Moon for lunch. We had basil fried rice with tofu and the tofu teriyaki bento box with veggie rolls. FINALLY a restaurant in Blowing Rock that has more than one choice on the menu for vegetarians/vegans! Of course, there are many choices for meat eaters as well. The reason I gave this restaurant even one star is because we have had several good experiences, having entertained family & friends, therefore, have spent a healthy amount of money. Since we are familiar with the restaurant, we were happy to see their "OPEN" signs up both at the bottom of the driveway & in the window of the reception area. We were a party of 51/2, 4 adults, a 7 year old & a newborn in a carrier. Anyone who knows this place knows how difficult it is to navigate their very steep driveway. We pile into the entrance at 2:45, knowing that their hours are that they close at 3:00 for a break until dinner. How very unprofessional & frankly ugly for these previously friendly employees to turn us away saying that their chef would be upset if we were to be seated at that time. Adding insult to injury, saying the chef was tired & worked very hard! Guess they can afford to send away a $200-300 tab 15 minutes before closing. So much for rapport building & greeting a loyal repeat customer with well deserved respect! Needless to say we will not be darkening their doorstep again, sadly we won't even be missed they are so oblivious! read more

The only reason I'm not giving this restaurant 5 stars is because when our 14 yr old son stepped away from the table (sitting at a separate kids table,) someone cleared his food away before he was finished eating. We enjoyed our experience, the restaurant is family friendly. We tried the Black Bear Roll, Shrimp Shumai, Pad See Ew, and Ka Nom Jeen. Everything was good but the best was the Sushi roll, and our least favorite was the Shumai. We especially liked that the portions were a reasonably sized compared to other Thai restaurants that serve massive portions. The parking lot/drive way is steep, but not an issue for the average joe. If I brought my grandparents I would just drop them off at the door before parking. read more

This place is woefully understaffed. The hostess seats people, clears tables, and takes to go orders. She is a one woman show. When you finally do get seated, it's an hour wait for a simple order (e.g., fried rice). Even better, the table who sat down 40 minutes after us received their food before we did. Our server only checked on us 1 time in 30 minutes, likely because she too is running around. Our food was brought out of sequence as well. One person was completely done with his meal before we even received our food. To add insult to injury I NEVER received my entree. If I could zero stars, I would. I originally gave a bad review. The earned it, and it was honest and fair. I went back and tried again. It was a good decision. The food and service were great. The restaurant had just opened for the day. I hope that it wasn't only because of that. The policy on refills has been changed, free refills on soft drinks and tea. This was a good change. Or server was great. She went above and beyond, and it was much appreciated. My wife and I were celebrating our anniversary. We ordered three entrees. Each was hot, perfectly seasoned, and a good portion. There were leftovers a-plenty! Our first experience was so bad, that I'm hesitant to give five stars just yet. I'm new to the area so I decided to try Moon to see if it would be my new pad tai spot. I thought it was pretty good! Very flavorful beef pad tai, but I did wish the portion size was bigger as it was pricey ($16). The Mango Sticky Rice was without a doubt 10/10 delicious! Overall, I'll probably check Moon out again, but wish either their prices were lower or they had bigger portion sizes. read more

In the last several years they have consistently gouged me by reducing the size of the plate portions of the duck dish. For example the mean are tidbit size portions of sliced duck. breast that are swimming in a sea of curry or a soup bowl. They used to serve a substantial portion, apparently now they have reduced the weight of the duck meat in the dish to a small ridiculous amount that it is apparent that they are intentionally trying to increase their profit at the expense of the customer that leaves irritated and gouged. They then bring you the menu with a smirk on their face as if they think this is a joke. read more

This review is really about the change in menu and ownership. Moon use to be very good, quality and flavorful, but after my last 2 orders that is no longer the case. Our second to last take out order was extremely disappointing, but having eaten there and ordered take out many, many times I chalked it up to a bad day, Covid, staff, whatever. Hey, it's 2021 and gotta cut restaurants some slack. We ordered a second time a week or so later, and the food was, simply put bad. The rolls lacked flavor, the fish wasn't the quality I had had in the past and even the basic Thai that we ordered looked and tasted different. Simply put it was not worth it and was not the high quality I had had in the past. The quality of food was several notches lower. Only after this did I learn of the different ownership which explains the new menu, new website, etc. I'd give it one star, but I'm trying to be reasonable and hope the owners/management reads this - go back to what was working in the past. If this is the quality product you will be putting out going forward I will never be back - it's poor quality and not worth going. Hate to say it about a local business, but there are others to support who apparently are trying. read more

After having only good or very good experience with Moon, last night's (4/1/023) experience was terrible. It was my wife's birthday and she was sick so we ordered takeout. I should have noted a problem when a sushi restaurant had no sushi but that's on me. We ordered three Thai dishes - chicken teriyaki, green curry and drunken noodle. We received three bowls of unseasoned vegetables and poor noodles with undercooked and unseasoned chicken breasts lying on top. The teriyaki chicken was not even cooked in teriyaki sauce. The tasteless and unheated sauce was in a side container to be, I guess, poured over the undercooked chicken. I cannot believe the management ever allowed this product to leave the kitchen. We paid over $90 for these three meals that we hardly ate. The only reason for this one star review is that I could not give them a lower one. I cannot with good conscience recommend Moon to anyone. read more

I waited over 10 minutes in my seat while the staff and management attempted to figure out what the servers' sections would be. The sushi was far above average and so were our Thai dishes (red curry and basil fried rice). The vinegar based hot sauce was incredible as well. This restaurant just opened and I've been once and yet I've been recommending it to everyone. Great sushi, great Thai food, great prices. They have lots of vegan options which I was very excited about. My non-vegan boyfriend agreed that the vegan crunch roll was incredibly tasty and filling. 2 sushi rolls would likely be sufficient for us, though I got a bento box lunch and had plenty of leftovers. Went back again tonight and tried their veggie roll...again...it was enough for a meal and was very satisfying...unlike some veggie creations can be. The restaurant is very clean and uptown looking. They do not offer valet parking like the previous restaurant in that location did. That is a plus, because I don't want to have to clean my car out before I go to dinner so I prefer to park it myself and walk down the hill to the building. The acoustics in the building tend to make it one of the noisier places to dine in town when it gets crowded so I try to go early. Also, this is not fast food. Had a great dinner here! The waiter was very attentive and also knowledgeable abolitionist the food . He was quite genuine in his affection for the place and the food. We had fried rice with curry and shrimp and it was quite tasty. I also loved the Duck dish. The Tom Kha soup was a very generous portion and very good.
