We love this place! It's small, not fancy at all but the staff and food are just fantastic. In a month we have been there at least 10 times and have not had a bad meal yet. We typically sit at the bar during lunch and get served the our favorite bartender Stephanie. She is awesome. Super efficient, funny and very sweet. If we sit at a table Dixie is usually our server. She is always kind, efficient and very sweet and a great server. The difference with Moonrunners is the owner Guy is there most of the time running the show. He cares about his guests and takes time to say Hi to everyone. Our first time we walked in knowing no one and we left feeling like a part of the family. We go their specifically because of that. The Ribs are unreal. They fall off the bone and are absolutely delicious. The sandwiches are great as well. Honestly we really haven't had anything we didn't like. The server, there's only one handling all the tables at first it wasn't busy but now it is and this poor guys all by themselves and the guy behind the bar he just stayed there looking at everybody. The poor way to need some help. So now I'm ordering the garlic steak melt And I'll let you know later. They do have a cool decor in reference to the name of the restaurant. Received good reviews so we tried it for lunch. Extensive menu & Chloe, our server, was quite helpful suggesting options. I had a chef's salad - it was huge with crisp greens, red onions, cucumbers, tomatoes, cheese along with a generous portion of ham & turkey. It was so large I couldn't finish it! We had great service from Natalie. We tried the appetizer platter and their smoked brisket sandwich with their signature bbq sauce. The brisket was delicious. This place is always empty when I visit. It's truly a shame. The food is good, the service is great and the moonshine is delicious. It's such a gem that doesn't appear to be utilized often. Whenever family visits I bring them here for the "Moonshine Experience". Growing up in the North I have always heard of moonshine but never had any. Some years ago after moving to NC I seen an episode of Bar Rescue. Moonrunners was featured on the show. I stopped in and that easily frequent there at least once a month. I love this place bc of the atmosphere and people. I don't have to wonder to know how wonderful the staff and food is. The food-real good ribs...and steak is cooked just the way YOU like it. If you don't like something they will gladly take it back. Suggestions: next time you re-up on spices...put some roasted paprika on top of the potato salad salad. 2.) Don't ever use baby shrimp in your seafood dip again. From the OBX...many here in Raleigh also frequent or are from a different beach. We call that kind of shrimp krill. Just grill normal sized shrimp and cut it up. Remember nobody likes small shrimp like that bc it smells fishy. Sorry y'all but y'all were so kind to exchange it for somethin else. 3.) menus need clear prices on them. Check out the "sides"section 4.) Okay and this kinda pissed me off but what can I do but review you for this one bc it involves my daughter. You will have problems with other patrons bc they too will complain about the lack of highchairs. my daughter was pissed but at the same time, I am not trying to be a karen. Haha. We went to Moon Runner's once a couple of years ago. The food & service were both mediocre at best. They have 100% stepped their game up! We went in today (on the 4th of July) to grab some lunch. Our server, Dixie, was absolutely wonderful! She recommended the Philly cheesesteak which Dan ordered & said was delicious. The special of the day was a Cuban sandwich which was also very good. We tried a few different moonshine cocktails which were very good. The Arnold Palmer was the best of the 3 flavors we tried. Between the great service Dixie provided, the delicious sandwiches & the tasty drinks, we give Moon Runner's 5 stars. I can hardly wait to go back! Thanks for a great lunch, Dixie! read more

Stopped at Moon Runners in Garner on the way home this evening. Had a couple of beers and the country fried steak Po-Boy. Probably the best country fried steak I have found since moving here to North Carolina. I sat at the bar and Eddie and Brooke provided excellent service. I will definitely be going back. - - - - - Edit: Since my initial review 7 months ago I have returned here numerous times. I have been working my way through their menu and haven't found anything yet that I wouldn't recommend. My current favorite though is the fried shrimp. :-) I have tried some of the moonshine drinks - Apple Pie is the best (not a fan of the candy cane). I like that they try different specialty and seasonal beers because I am primarily a beer drinker. Moon Runners is becoming my personal "Cheers" and I recommend them all the time. read more

I was looking for a place to eat while in North Carolina, so I love me some good moonshine and well I came by to give it a try. I arrived and it was still early for dinner so it wasn't crowded. My server came by right away and explained their moonshine flight vs their mixed drinks. I obviously went for the mixed drink. The food came out quickly and the meat came off the bones. We stopped as we were exploring the area. This definitely seemed like a place the locals come to, but everyone was so friendly and welcoming. Cullan was our waiter and he was so friendly and attentive. The food was really good and the drinks were reasonably priced and refreshing. Try the fried pickles! Last night we came to moon runners bc we were passing through and we watched it on bar rescue last Sunday. We love that show, so it was pretty cool. Come to find out they are on the top 10 list of the hardest bars that Jon Taffer had to rescue. Well....the catfish on a stick was the best catfish I have ever eaten. After I told the waiter, he told us the catfish dinner was created by the chef that was on the show. It was really awesome!!! The service was amazing. And My husband actually loved the fried pickles and he is weird about those. read more

Went here today with friends for a lunch thing we do once monthly. I suggested it as I live close by and saw that it had decent reviews. We quickly realized this was not going to be the experience we had hoped for. When we got there around 12pm there were not many people inside so we figured the service would be pretty good. In waiting for our server to just take the drink order we again realized this would not be the case. It took forever for our drinks to be made and delivered and when they arrived they were clearly watered down and not made correctly. We then ordered food, which was the only highlight of our visit. The food was great for bar food and we enjoyed that part of the experience alone. We then debated whether to order another drink and decided we would. After 30 minutes went by without a visit from our server, with our finished plates having been pushed to the center of the table for this amount of time, we decided we'd pass on the second drink. After this decision we continued to wait for the server to bring us our check and she then finally offered to pick up our plates and made a comment about "since she was finally not running around". I never once saw this server running around and there were only 5 patrons plus us in the entire dining area. After working in restaurants for 15 years I did not recognize her as busy, but overall absent. We then finally paid our checks and were not approached again. Our entire lunch experience lasted 2hr and 10 minutes to get one alcoholic beverage and food for 3 people. Overall would not recommend this bar unless you're going for karaoke night late in the evening, which is the only other time I've been here and had a positive experience. read more

Passing through the area, we decided to get a bite to eat based on the good reviews we had seen on Yelp. My wife and I both ordered build your own burger. I added cheddar, coleslaw and chili. She ordered cheddar, pickles and fried jalapeño caps. We both got house chips with ranch. Oh, and I got a Bell's Two Hearted draft. Our 8 ounce burgers were fantastic and the house chips were crispy and were not loaded with seasonings...just a hint of salt. The decor is old, homey, and a great neighborhood hangout. I met some friends here for karaoke night on Friday. Two of my friends were already seated at a table and one had a drink. After waiting some time for a server to take our order, we eventually got the attention of a female server who told us she was leaving for the night, they were short staffed and we would need to order our food and drinks from the bar and we did. I ordered mozzarella sticks and a full rack of ribs; both were edible because I was hungry, but I wouldn't order it again. The server I mentioned earlier is the main reason for this negative review. After about an hour or so, I noticed the server was still at the restaurant and serving guests who arrived after we were seated. I confronted her about it as she walked by, but she kept on walking. So I advised the manager about our experience. She asked me to point her out and kind of apologized, but it did not seem sincere. Considering we were the only African Americans in the restaurant, I can only assume race is the reason why she refused to serve us. I will add that the environment was not hostile and the patrons were friendly. read more

Went out on a girls lunch with my grandma and 3 cousins and Cole was our server. He was very kind, attentive and energetic! He carried on with our jokes, stayed positive and wasn't over bearing but checked up on us enough that we never had to wonder where he went! Not to mention they did have a little music bingo to complete our date night that was alot of fun! We have now been 4 times and I keep telling more and more people how good the food is! I ate here on a Thursday with two other people for an evening dinner. These are my thoughts and observations. - I really liked the ambiance. It was marred only by the malfunctioning radio. - Our service was top notch. - We waited 20 minutes for our orders, which I think is average for a sit down establishment. - Our food was average, but the cocktails were on point. Overall, if you're looking for a place with decent food and excellent drinks, I'd highly recommend Moon Runners. If you're not looking to drink, I'd pick a different restaurant; the food alone isn't worth coming here. read more
