New to California, and just moved into our new home. We were quick to learn that there are many things you need to do when you build a new home - one of which is designing and installing a backyard! We did that this past summer but needed something to finish the job, and decided a tree would be the finishing touch. We met with Louie Towkaniuk at the Murietta location, and he spent as much time as we needed to look at, ask questions about, and finally choose the tree we both loved (and more importantly) fit our budget. Our tree was tagged, and a delivery date was set. A few weeks later, John and his team arrived at our home with our new bottlebrush tree, and did a clean and professional installation of our tree. I provided a tarp for the dirt as we have a beach pebble covered backyard (drought friendly!) and they not only placed the tree perfectly (we decided which side was the best to face which way) but they made sure the irrigation was working as it should, then removed the dirt for us, as we had no place to put it. Our tree is happy and healthy in its new home, and we are thrilled with how awesome it looks in our new yard. I've been to most of the Moon Valley Nursery sites in San Diego, I found them all have Wonderful selections of every kind of plants. I bought a multi-trunk Jacaranda from this Escondido location, and they babysat it for me for several months until I was ready to plant it. I also bought a number of bougainvilleas, most of them from this Escondido location. I got to know several of the sales people at this store, and they were all extremely helpful and patient answering my numerous questions. The manager, Philip, was really helpful when I came to pick up the 24" Box Jacaranda, and load it onto my trailer. Philip oversaw the whole operation and threw in some nice amendments for the tree. I can heartily recommend the Escondido Moon Valley Nursery to anyone looking for an outstanding selection of every kind of plant, along with really stellar service. Good job, guys! read more

We walked in to the office area and immediately met a friendly face. Maggie was our sales person and was extremely attentive and helpful. I kept trying to get her to finish her lunch and she would not do it, simply attending to our questions and concerns. We had come in for the purchase of some fruit trees, and to our surprise found out that Maggie was the expert in this field. She drove us down through the nursery, so we could look at the various types of fruit trees, and she explained her vast knowledge during the whole time. If I had questions, she was glad to back the Golf Cart up so I could see certain trees. She was very patient and spent about two hours with us. She will be coming to our home to look at the area we want to use for the fruit trees that we purchased. We are very excited about this new addition to our home as we purchased 13 fruit trees! I could not recommend a better person to represent Moon Valley nurseries. She is very accommodating and even tried to help us with their 0% financing offer. Moon Valley is a nursery for those of privilege. If you're looking for a large order or if you're only searching for "mature trees" this could be a viable option for you. Remember though, this is a place for people where money is no object. My experiences here have always been reminiscent of a timeshare sales pitch. You'll be shuttled around in a side-by-side with a salesperson. They'll assess you out right away, inquiring a about your budget. From there it's about selling you that their prices are great because they include delivery and planting... But just like a timeshare sales pitch, they'll always have a counter to your price concerns. The prices? The prices are the highest you'll see anywhere. They do this because their core buyers are wealthy people who want an older tree and they don't like gardening. They're willing to pay a high price for that privilege. For the rest of us, you'll quickly cross Moon Valley off your list. Here's a real example of the price differences here vs. elsewhere. They were only selling one size of a tree I was looking for at Moon Valley. Not a fully grown tree but ones with several years of growth. A little larger than what local nurseries sell. They looked great and were healthy. So including delivery, planting and their "warranty" it was about $1000 per tree. Same tree, smaller/younger, small enough to put in tuck or maybe suv, self plant, with limited warranty is about $150 at pretty much all other nurseries in town. You're paying for an older tree and for them to delivery and plant.. That's one hell of a markup and that's for one tree. If you're not rich should you still come to Moon Valley? Whenever I've come here it's because they have a huge selection AND their trees are a few years older than what other nurseries sell. It gives me a perspective of what my younger trees will look like in a few years. There is value to that. - Don't come here if you have a hard time saying no to salespeople. - If you're on a timeline be sure to ask what their delivery/planting time is UP FRONT.. They sheepishly said 4 to 6 weeks when asked. read more

We wanted a ficus hedge put around our property for privacy. After looking around, we contacted Moon nursery in Escondido and was fortunate Fred Anguiano was on duty. He gave us a tour of the nursery and we talked about our problems. He agreed that we should have ficus. He came out to our home and did a on-site review. He helped us with the plans and planting the trees. Fred Anguiano at Moon's nursery was very helpful in acquiring the plants and getting them planted in the ground. He came out five different times to inspect our property, the trees and the planting process. When a question came up, he was right there to answer the phone and answer our questions. We were very comfortable with Fred at Moons nursery and the work that was accomplished. We absolutely recommend to ask for Fred Anguiano. It was a five star service all the way!! read more

Citrus trees are in quarantine in many places right so we were having trouble finding a dwarf citrus tree for our garden. We stopped at Moon Valley in Oceanside and they directed us to their Escondido location where we found the perfect Gold Nugget tangerine tree and an awesome glazed pot to put it in. We had Moon Valley deliver and pot the tree and Jose and his crew did an amazing job. We had such a great experience with Moon Valley. We used Moon Valley Nursery to remove a 25 year old Canary Islands Palm when it became infected with South American Palm Weavils. They also removed the stump and planted a new King Palm. Three teams of workers were required, one to cut down the tree (2 days); another to remove the stump (2 days); and a third to deliver and plant the new tree (1 day). All three teams were great each day they left our yard and patio swept and hosed off clean as a whistle. Would definitely usr Moon Valley again! read more

We had our crape myrtle tree delivered yesterday. This is the first time we've bought a large tree and had it planted. Anthony showed around the trees we were considering and gave advice on each one. He followed up with giving us info and tree food for when it would be delivered. Yesterday was the big day. The tree looked bigger on the truck than we thought it would be, but the guys delivering it reassured us that once it was in the ground it would be what we had envisioned. The team that planted our tree was awesome. They were friendly, polite, and covid-safe. From start to finish, they worked hard and efficiently. I seriously tried to use these guys, but had a very unimpressive experience. I could not make sense of their prices. But I tried further by going in to see the trees in person. My contact wasn't available so he connected me with his "manager". What a disappointment! This guy knew nothing! He did not know the difference between species and made stuff up as he went, using Google in real time. But just to top it off, the guy was sick with what sounded like covid or bronchitis! So after exposing me to his virus while on the cart, wasting my time with his lack of knowledge about anything, I walked back to my car disappointed again. And now I am coming down with something, probably caught from him. This experience was unprofessional on so many levels, I give up! read more

Have not received my delivery & palm adjustment yet - will adjust my review if needed next week... but it has been another knock out of the park for this company. My first foray into using Moon Valleys services was last year with Sean Boyd setting me up with some killer citrus and a couple of key pieces, "backyard tropics" and in front a palm and an African tulip. The palm (which I fortunately purchased the no questions asked insurance on) started to tilt with the very rainy weather we have been having this year with bomb cyclones and atmospheric rivers etc (every local knows what I mean/2023 right?!) This year (and really only last week) I connected with Cody (former Marine/shout out Devil Dog) and he was so so so helpful. Not only did he schedule me in an incredibly timely way to take care of the palm but also set me up with a ton of smaller items for the ongoing health of my plants and a ton of delivered soil for pot plants and raised beds. I recognize that there is likely cheaper/more budgetary options out there, especially with so many talented backyard growers but I have now had two distinct experiences with Moon valley and their team and thus far they have been worth every penny. I appreciate their professionalism every step of the way and I like to think I am a judicious buyer who would not just "throw"money away but rather choose the right folks and product for the job. I bought 22 plants a couple weeks ago and was helped by Ken. He was very helpful and took me around the nursery (Carmel Valley) to show me plants. I returned today to pick up the plants and while Ken was with another customer, I was helped by the regional manager who pitched right in to find the plants I bought. I was even able to get a refund for a few of the plants that I decided didn't work in our yard with no hassle. It's been a YEAR since I got my tree shrubs (podocarpus) in and I have to say, the project managers did a GREAT job. I told them I was planning on putting in a hot tub in a section of my house and they made sure to make the trees with the most foliage to be right next to the hot tub. I didn't think much of it to begin with, but now that I have the hot tub, I can really appreciate their foresight and planning to make my backyard better. First off, earlier in December, our nursery professional Lucas drove us all over the nursery and personally helped us hand select an apple, orange, lemon and Pygmy date palm that were just beautiful and reasonable priced. The this morning our installation team delivered and planted our trees. It was a smooth process. Tyler L.called to give me a heads up on when they would arrive and showed up right on time. Then Tyler, Daniel Rivera, Daniel Cervantes, and Chris Horton planted the trees and even measured the space to ensure they were centered properly, they mulched and watered the trees using the magic moon juice and then they walked me through how to care for my trees. Most all of my original trees and shrubs are dead and I've spent money removing most from my yard as they were planted in areas that they would not thrive. Moon came out and surveyed my yard and planted these trees too, my landscaper has told me that the ground would have never allowed the trees to flourish and thrive and Moon should have never encouraged them to be planted. :/ read more

My husband and I had a wonderful experience with Moon Valley, start to finish. We worked out a landscape plan with Maggie at our first visit. She was amazing. There are thousands of plants and trees to choose from, and she took us in the cart and was patient with all our questions and changes in ideas, and showed us absolutely everything that was an option for our needs, over two visits!. We ended up purchasing about 35 plants and trees and just had our planting on the 16th. Communication for scheduling with Michael was perfect, email and phone call follow-ups. I made a pretty big purchase with these guys well over 2k. This was back in 2016. I had concerns back then but decided not to write a review because maybe just maybe the trees would do great. I hate to say this but these guys are a classic bait and switch, overpriced and they do not back their products. They will sell you as many trees as possible knowing that they will not thrive because of lack of sun or space. Besides that you can honestly get better trees at a fraction of the cost and better service at Armstrong nursery, Lowe's or Home Depot. They offered me a free design consultation, even came to the property and then proceeded to sell me way more trees than the small lot could handle. I hired a landscape company to meet me at the install to make sure my irrigation was set up right. I was lucky to have my landscape guys there because as soon as they saw the truck with all the trees they informed me it was way to many trees and most would not fit nor would they survive for many reasons. I had them take back 50% of the order right there. The rest I proceeded with. Some trees of course died, and when i emailed and called to have them replaced they never responded and when they finally did they told me I would have to drop off the dead one. Today over 5 years since I made the mistake of buying from Moon Valley I have one Lemon Tree that produces very little fruit but it does produce. I have a Grapefruit and Orange Tree that survived but have never produced any fruit because they are in the shade and not properly spaced. I have had a number of landscapers work on my property all have said the same thing - that too many trees are planted close together and that they are planted in a place that gets zero sun - citrus of course needs full sun. If you are reading this please be warned. Not only can you get better trees at better prices any where else. But these guys will blatantly lie to you in order to sell more trees. Take it from me - I made this mistake and now every-time i'm sitting on the beach and a damn Moon Valley ads flies by I curse the sky! read more

After having to drive in to speak with someone, delivery was scheduled 2 days later. Didn't get a call the day before as they usually do. Called the office and said to deliver on the right side of the house. Driver called me 30 minutes before he was coming and I said delivery to the right side of the house. What happens, it's on the left side of the yard! !!??!! These are big trees too, can't just pick the up and walk them over. read more
