My wife and I have spent a lot of time shopping around nurseries in Vista and Fallbrook, we have met some great people and seen some amazing plants. But Tony and Tony's Tropicals is by far our favorite. We've been to Tony's 5 acre nursery at least three times (always call ahead first, Tony runs the place, and really, only Tony runs the place). When we go, he proudly walks the his property with us and knows every plant in his yard. His selection is incredible and his prices are fantastic. Tony prices a bit differently from some of the other yards that we visited. In many cases others price a tree by "trunk feet" or by the number of plants in a container. But for Tony the pricing was by container size, period. This means you can get some spectacular deals. We got several 5 gallon Bromeliads that had a dozen or more that we could separate at home and other trees that were ready to transplant into bigger containers, but we got them for the same container prices. The most incredible selection of Ponytail Palms (about 25% the cost of what we saw up in Orange County), beautiful Fishtales, Hundreds of Bromeliads, cactus, rare tissue cultured bananas.. .. Just like Tony's yard.. I could go on and on. Tony also delivers including to Orange County for less than what it cost to rent a Uhaul for the day. We just had our 2 rd delivery from him two weeks ago and he was on time, all plants were in great shape and each time he gave us a unique free plant either for visiting him or on delivery. (This last time he gave us a four color agave, never seen it before, and I can't wait till it gets big) Tony is our go to plant guy and well worth the drive from Orange County. See you soon Tony! This review is long overdue. I drove from Los Angeles to visit Tony's Tropicals and was not one bit disappointed...not at all! Tony is a wonderfully down-to-earth person and very knowledgeable about succulents and cycads and the intricacies of growing plants. I went to find a specific aloe and was so so excited he had it. CALL AHEAD! Tony is great to accommodate your schedule. I didn't call ahead but got lucky cause he was there (he mentioned he leaves often). The entrance has "do not enter" signs but that is the correct drive way. Tony met me along the path. We discussed what I was looking for and he had a load of ideas, pointers, options, knowledge, etc. Was very kind and answered all my questions. Tony gave me a few free plants and dropped the price on others I selected. Bring cash (he prefers) or you'll have to pay through PayPal (which I did and was easy). Side note: I brought my dog and Tony didn't care that he was off leash and running around. But there are cactuses and snakes so be careful! Specifics: Tony went over each plants name, soil type, watering and sunlight needs, pot size/ repotting if necessary, and if it was poisonous for my dogs! This was an awesome experience from start to finish. I drove from Costa Mesa to buy some plants and Tony made himself available immediately. He helped me select the perfect plants for a wall planter. He spend over 1 hour selecting plants with me and selecting the perfect ones. He even gave me a nice discount by paying cash. I visited Tony last week looking for two hard to find papyrus varieties. Tony was extremely knowledgeable and generous with his time and knowledge of plants. He had both the varieties I was looking for, one of which was growing along a bank at his nursery and from which he kindly dug up several bundles to send home with me. Incredible find for my succulents and tropical plant needs - most amazing choice of very high quality plants and trees of all sizes - I was like a kid in a Candy score. Tony is the most helpful and knowledgeable person as well and gave me great advice - his pricing is crazy competitive compared to most nurseries and Box Stores.
