We normally love this place. Did they change ownership? Went for lunch today ordered 2 kung pao chicken lunch specials which is normally outstanding...2 diet cokes. The diet cokes were flat and the food was beyond gross. I think they used sweet and sour sauce for the kung pao no vegetables. I am a diabetic and cannot eat sweet and sour. If I could I would give this place a minus 1. We ate here somewhere around 2 years ago. We were actually taken back on how good it was and often talked about how good it was. A few days ago after 2 years we were excited to go...BIG MISTAKE! WORST food we have had in a very long time! I ordered the Mongolian Beef, which came out in under 2.1 seconds! Fresh you ask? Hmmm. I ordered fried rice with it. Their version of "fried rice" is to take white rice and soak it in soy sauce to make like it looks fried. You could see clumps of white in it where they missed some rice. Absolutely disgusting!!! FAKE FRIED RICE! The little salad they serve with the food was supposed to be Ginger dressing! The bottom of the little bowl was flooded with something that wasn't even close to "Ginger" dressing! Disgusting! The Mongolian beef was like chewing through rubber and had what looked like an entire cut onion in it! Disgusting! My company had Moshe Chicken, wasn't bad but more like Moshit Chicken! We asked for "hot mustard" their version of hot mustard was regular mustard mixed with horseradish! Disgusting! Even the fortune cookies tastes like crap! Old, burnt and the poor fortune in one was normal and the other one had some advertisement that wasn't even for this establishment! I'm not sure what happened but the place has gone down hill! The old lady sat in a booth and was nearly passed out. That night I had crazy nightmares all night and woke up completely blotted! WILL NEVER GO BACK!!! Sat down to eat and before we even tasted it, the appearance was already off. (I regret not taking pictures.) We start eating and it was unmistakable how different the flavors were. We all agreed that this food was not prepared by the seasoned hands of the chefs we are used to. We've been ordering from Moon Wok since 2001. The restaurant had changed ownership in past years, but thankfully ,the food was consistently delicious! After some discussion, we decided to call and ask what happened. The woman that answered confirmed that the usual cooks were no longer there. This was very sad news to hear. Based on our experience tonight, we will not be ordering from them anymore. Where did those flavor geniuses go???? Moon Wok had a great thing going for so many years!!!! BRING THEM BAAAAACK!!!We are truly saddened. Anyone else have this recent experience there? This was an awful meal. I got one of their specials that includes soup, rice, and an entrée. The hot and sour soup was the best part of the meal. It had some spice but was not very flavorful. The meal also came with a spare rib that I was not expecting. The sweet-and-sour sauce on it was delicious. The meat was not edible. Seriously. It was not edible. I could not get the meat off the bone with my teeth. The bits that I did get off were completely dried out. Threw it away. The entrée was a combination of beef, chicken, shrimp, pork, and scallops. Some of the pork taste tasted like it may have been spoiled. It had a bizarre flavor, as did the scallops. The chicken and beef were OK but the sauce it was drowned in really didn't have any flavor. The food that we ordered was not what we expected. First of all the place was empty during the dinner hour,(6:00) except for one couple; that should have been our first clue. As soon as we sat down the server placed chow mein noodles on the table; turns out they were the only edible thing we got. We ordered dinner specials of beef and broccoli and chicken chow mein. The server went to the kitchen and returned with the entrees almost immediately (within two minutes after we ordered)The chow mein was lo mein and had bouilion sized pieces of chicken that were difficult to find under the noodles there were no vegetables that you could detect and it was a large oversized serving the fried rice that was to go with it was also oversized and had as much egg as it did rice,. The beef and broccoli also was an oversized serving and the beef was inedible. it tasted like old meat that had sauce to cover the, fact that it was rancid, After the entrees the Wonton soup that we were charged 2.00 extra for because we asked for it instead of what came with the entrees arrived and it tasted awful, it was also inedible, (I gagged) The appetizer that was supposed to be four spring rolls came out after everything else was served and it was two crab rangoon and two spring rolls that were cold and greasy to touch,that was enough. The server came over to check on us and we asked for the check. She offered us boxes to go and we let her know everything that concerned us about the food. She literally reached into the food to pick out a tiny peice of chicken to show us it was in there. I then picked up a rancid peice of beef and countered with the pieces of chicken should have been at least similar in size and it should have been edible, She then agreed that she knew it was not good and apologized and reported our concerns to the kitchen, she came back with the bill and said the kitchen stands by its service. they offered no compensation for the inedible food, I would give them a zero rating if I could, Run don't walk away from this place! The food here at Moon Wok was serviceable, okay, with plenty of options for us vegetarians...but nothing really wowed us in terms of flavor or presentation. We had Tofu in Brown Sauce, which was fine, and Fried Rice which also was fine but didn't have a whole lot of flavor to it. It was our first time trying this place. There are lots of basic Chinese food spots in the Santa Clarita Valley. We've tried and enjoyed more some of the others. This one was just okay and wouldn't be our top choice to head back to or order from. read more

Our first time here... I was skeptical because I saw reviews ranging from 1 to 5 in recent months. We had a good dinner over-all. We ordered the pan fried combination chow mein, shrimp with snow peas and the combination cashew. They also gave us a bowl of white rice with our meal. The shrimp smell was really strong, but tasty. There's a pattern happening here if you look closely at others' reviews. I've been a 20+ year customer of this restaurant. Growing up near Chinatown in Los Angeles, I know and love authentic Chinese food. When we moved to SCV, I found Moon Wok to be the real deal. In the past year, things at Moon Wok have gone progressively downhill from the food quality to sanitation. I have had experiences with mold in the wontons, to being sick to my stomach within hours of eating here. The final and ultimate deciding factor for why my family will NEVER eat here again is the chef that was picking his nose for 2 minutes straight right in plain view while standing near the woks and ingredients. He never washed his hands, and he went right back to cooking after his digging expedition. This was absolutely disgusting to watch. Please be very careful if you choose to eat here.
