There's an AMEX sign on the front door, which I mentioned to the clerk, and he told me "over $50 only". I'm not a snob, I'm not obsessed with using an AMEX. I use it where I can because it's the only card that lets me pay off my balance before the charges move from pending to cleared. Just feel like this place doesn't like taking the merchant charge on lesser purchases and use their judgment on a case by case basis which is disappointing when you advertise something but don't advertise the stipulations.
