Our table for three ways in the small dining room was a wonderful way to celebrate a birthday. Hailey took very good care of us on that Tuesday night. There were friendly local diners near us who assured us the food at The Moose Inn was great. They were right! We ordered one Southern Comfort Old Fashioned for $6.00 that was expertly prepared. We also enjoyed one Knute Red House Ale for $5.00 which was one of the many beers on tap. Our appetizer was beer battered mushrooms with peppercorn ranch dipping sauce. . more than we could eat. Tasted great the next day! Of course, herring, cheese spread, crackers and fresh rolls were all included as well. The birthday girl ordered Italian Roast Duck with baked potato and summer vegetable soup for $18.99. She loved it, but took the potato home. My husband and I couldn't resist the Tuesday special of all you can eat Barbecued Country Ribs with two sides for $8.99!! Tender, boneless, tangy, and did I mention all you can eat for $8.99. (We asked Hailey if she was working for free.) We chose wild rice and salad with raspberry vinaigrette for our two sides. Both were very good. When our bill came, we were charged $11.99 instead of $8.99 for the ribs. That's still a great deal, but Hailey agreed it was incorrect and knocked six bucks off the bill. Drinks, appetizers, supper club atmosphere, great waitress all for $57.00. Knowing most waitresses in WI earn $2.33 an hour our tip was generous. Hailey is a college student living on Silver Lake for the summer and we hope to see her again. We rank the Moose Inn higher than Silvercryst for Wautoma dining. read more

I normally don't go out for fish fry, simply because I measure my fish against an excellent fish fry I had years and years ago at Balistreri's in Milwaukee. But I finally found one that measured up at the Moose Inn! I don't much like the setup, but since I love the food, I'll put up with it. Basically you walk in, tell the hostess how many people are in your group, order your food, and when you are finally seated, your food is out in a couple minutes. This could be painful or quick, depending on how busy it is and how competent your hostess is. The fish fry is served family style--I believe they give you 2 pieces of fish per adult to start out with, plus potato salad, coleslaw, tartar sauce, bread and fries. It's great, all of it! My kids had the kids chicken fingers and ribs meals, and they loved them. Perfect portion sizes for hungry kids. I will definitely be coming here again, and would recommend it! read more

Excellent crusted salmon, sauteed shrimp and fantastic clam chowder. Great potato salad, coleslaw and rye bread on Friday night. Friendly staff. It is one of our Friday night favorites. Hostess remembers us by name and what we like to eat on Friday. We go ahead of the crowd on Friday and only have to wait a short time for our food to be ready. read more

I had the best fried fish of my life here. A super club for the locals and tourists. Every night has a special. I would suggest making reservations ahead of time although we didn't and they were able to seat us right away on a Thursday night. Just waited 1 hour and 45 minutes to sit down for dinner, after we're told it was an hour wait. Table for 2. The bartenders were awesome!!' The waitress never asked if we wanted a drink . We had to ask for water. We ordered the perch dinner that was served to us hard as a rock. The waitress never came to our table other than to serve our dinner and bring us the bill. I cannot begin to describe our incredible experience with Moose Inn Catering. We had an out of town wedding in Wautoma, and being from Chicago have high standards when it comes to food. We had a 4-day wedding at the summer camp down the road from Moose and were planning on hiring a few different caterers for the dinners based on the night. We had originally planned on having Moose just do a pig roast for our rehearsal dinner, and we went for a tasting so I could make sure they made veggie-friendly dishes well too. They blew the tasting out of the park. They made us 3 salads, desserts, grilled veggies. All so good and healthy. We were on our way to a tasting at Bellissimo Ristorante in Berlin, WI for a tasting for our wedding night dinner. After our tasting at Moose, we were left underwhelmed and over-quoted. We decided to go all in with Moose and even hired them to make meals we were planning to make on our own. Moose Inn did a grill out night one, a pig roast night 3, a beautiful, healthy wedding dinner, and a Sunday Brunch in the tent on their property using leftovers from the week (for a lower rate- because they're amazing and efficient). I understand that COVID has affected many restaurants and they are doing there best to recover from being shut down, but The Moose isn't doing that in a fair way. With a mixed drink as 5 dollars and a 35 dollar steak you don't even get bread, soup or salad? 3 drinks in after an hour wait, you get the steak and your already at $50 for a meal? If you want to add an appetizer, soup or salad, you'll hit $70 for a meal! As I said I know The Moose is trying to recover from a shutdown, but their place was PACKED Saturday night, 1 hour wait, and no they were not at 25% capacity or anything, but I didn't mind that. My point is they have good business, so there is no reason to raise prices by 25%. I will not be returning anytime soon with they way they have changed and I hope to find a new go to place. read more

Things must have changed since we were there 2 years ago. We always give a place 3 tries, we went 3 times and each time the service and food got worse. The last time we went, I ordered prime rib, med rare n I got it raw! There were only 2 other tables in the dining room, with no waitress available. So, I recently had friends meet us here on a Friday night. I won't do this again. I was embarrassed and turned off. Somehow on Friday nights, the place turns from a traditional Wisconsin supper club to a roadside bar. Why did we need to order our food when we put our name in for our table? Why were there styrofoam containers of mayo-laden potato salad and cole slaw in the tables? From now on, I will stick to the Wednesday night chicken special (when we are in town in Wednesday's). read more

Since the place was packed not sure my review really matters, it is more to inform first timers. Went to Friday night fish fry. Arrived at 6:15, was told an hour wait, finally seated at 7:55( 1 hour 40 minutes). Potato salad, vinegar based coleslaw and tartar sauce in Styrofoam cups was brought out, 10 minutes later fish arrived. Real silverware but Styrofoam plates were what we ate on. AYCE fish w/ff for $10.49. Drove 45 minutes to get here based on an earlier positive dining experience. Food was ok but we will not be back for the fish fry. Wanted to appease our first time guests with a Brandy Alexander after dinner but was told they wanted to turn the table so we could not order one. read more

I ate here last Saturday night. We got there around 8 or 8:30 pm and had to wait only 30 minutes for a table. The outdoor patio was a great place to sip our drinks we got at the bar. I don't think we had to wait 30 minutes .. The waitress was super friendly. The atmosphere was lively and inviting. Very casual. The food was fantastic. First, the complimentary pickled herring was so good. I'd never had it before so I asked the waitress how it's eaten - on a cracker! Crackers and bread were brought out to the table. We order the shrimp cocktail - amazing. Huge shrimp, great cocktail sauce. I had the parmesan crusted salmon, au gratin potatoes for the side = just all-around excellent. I was just blown away by how good the salmon was, including the dill sauce on the side. It was a large piece of salmon, too. The au gratins were delicious, and a huge portion. The prices seemed high when I looked at the menu, but given the portion and the quality, they were spot-on. I will definitely eat here again if I'm in the area! Highly recommended! read more

A good fish fry, one of the better ones in the area. Ambience is good also, supper-clubby in nature. The wait....well, that's the downside. On popular nights like Friday and Saturday, you're going to be at the bar for a while. They do have those electronic thingies that tell you when your table is ready. They don't rush you out the door like some places do. Their cole slaw is great, it's the clear, more vinegar-and-sugary kind, not the creamy. Cod or Perch are both very good. read more

Have tried the Moose Inn several times now and I have FINALLY come to the conclusion that we will NEVER go again. No matter what day or time for dinner it is insanely busy and so loud that ear plugs are a must. The place is so small and cramped that anyone remotely claustrophobic should avoid. How's the food? Not good. Skip this place and head to Silvercryst or ANY other place in the area. VERY expensive for what you get. read more

The first time I was here, it was great. This last trip was just a little different. I have a friend that raves about the italian roasted duckling, which is not for me. This is a 1 hour drive from where we're at and I couldn't have been more hungry when we arrived. We stood in the lobby for about 5 minutes, and were finally asked how many were in our party. I answered 3. She seemed very startled and on edge with this (maybe she had OCD and likes only to work in even numbers?) and said she would have to see what she could do. I peered into the dining room of about 15 tables, and 3 of them had people at them. The rest were cleaned and had place settings on them. After a lot of running around, she came back and told us she thought she got us a table, and hoped we'd be comfortable. We then sat for 10-15 minutes without menus, and the meal just became more bizarre from that point forward. I ordered a steak medium, which was COMPLETELY rare, barely warm in the middle. Another friend ordered the Salmon, which was also uncooked in the center. The soups were average, the salad the same, although they have some interesting dressing choices. I remember the rolls being a little more distinctive, but on this trip they were very run of the mill. 3 things stuck out in my mind of the whole experience... weird service, raw food, and a giant moose's head on the wall. The Brandy Alexanders are ALWAYS incredible, but depending on who's bartending, they vary in height. read more

We had a family dinner here recently and everything was excellent. My husband is a picky steak eater, and he said it was the best steak he had eaten in a long time. At Moose Inn we had a good experience. The food was good I would not rate it fantastic but it was good, the service was terrific! Our waitress was awesome no complaints there. When we first go there it was packed so there really was no place to sit while we waited for a table to be ready. The dining area was very small as well with not much seating. It was loud so not very easy to carry on a conversation. Our food arrived in a timely manner and our drinks were all brought to us immediately. We did order a Grasshopper which was huge and knowing it was so big the waitress thought ahead and brought us to go glasses. I'm not sure if I will go here again since honestly we don't eat out often and when we do we want a quiet more private atmosphere. read more

While I have actually never been in the Moose Inn, I did use them to cater my wedding at an outdoor venue. The catering staff was very helpful and gracious as we planned the menu from 1500 miles away. They arrived at the venue in plenty of time. Supper clubs are all the rage in Wautoma. They are characterized by padding on the bars (for your comfort and protection). This is a pretty small town, so I wasn't expecting much, but their food was really good! Even their house salad that came with the meal with fantastic. Definitely heavy on the fried foods, and not good for vegetarians (mostly steak, seafood and chicken), but I liked everything I had except the potato salad was just okay (too liquid-y, too much mayo). They also serve bread with an artichoke spread - very good. We got fried cheese nuggets, which were also fun and delicious. For a small town in WI, I thought the food was pleasantly good. They also have a fun, outside area, but the inside decor is not the best (heavy on the dead moose, moose paintings). read more

Decent restaurant, food is ok, definitely recommend reservations on the weekend in summers... be ready for a rude hostess on a power trip, and inability to accurately quote wait times.
