The chocolate croissant had two sides dipped in chocolate and the filling is a chocolate mousse, it's different. The croissant is much heavier and more dense than I like. Cost less than $25 The custard danish is quite strange. The custard isn't smooth, more of a ricotta texture and feel. The danish is rather heavy to me. Not so yummy to me. The garlic cheese and bacon bun is an open sandwich and is extremely greasy. The almond cookies are okay. The garlic hotdog is what it says, it's so-so. At least one of the items in each trip over here was hard and not very flavorful. Pro Tip: Arrive early to get the best selection. As someone who tried hundreds of bubble tea in more than a dozen states and 10 countries, including Taiwan, Thailand, and Singapore, this shop by far had the worst boba drinks, especially the fruit teas. I took about 2-3 sips of the Passionfruit Tea ($5.75) and requested to change my drink to a plain coffee because the tea had an aftertaste of beetle nuts, but I was denied. This is very uncommon. My sisters had the Winter Melon Lime Tea - which tasted like expired bitter black tea - and the Kumquat Green Tea - which was so gross that I had to spit it out after I took a single sip; I can't even explain the flavor. I wasted $27 here. I expected quality due to the high prices and the positive ratings people gave this place on Yelp. Maybe the ratings were mainly referring to the pastries, which we did not try. My little cousin was the envy of her class when she brought her Doraemon bread to school for breakfast! I stopped by a restaurant up the street and mentioned to the server I was craving boba and she demanded that I had to stop by Moose. I'm so happy that I did. I got the doraemon and a pig pastry for the cousin and a few for the rest of the family. The taro mochi was my favorite. Soft and with real taro inside. Not too sweet of course! I visited this place twice now and have enjoyed coming here for their nice selection of freshly made pastries, bubble teas and desserts! It's in a strip mall called McLaughlin center and located on grand river road. I ended up trying the coconut and almond bread roll (so good), you could really taste the coconut and almond flavor and this was delicious. I also like their twist donut which is simply a donut with sugar on top but I like how light the bread was! I also got a custard vanilla roll and a chocolate chip roll. I feel like I'd have preferred the chocolate chip roll to have mini chips in it versus full size but it was still good. I also tried the taro tea here which comes in a good size portion and enjoyed it! I'm not sure why the negative reviews, I'm an occasional bubble tea drinker and liked the tea I got. There is very limited seating inside so this is not the best place to sit at unfortunately so knocking off a star plus this place is closed during some weekdays so make sure they are open before you head over. Moose Pastry & Tea is the only Japanese-style bakery* in Metro Detroit that serves many of the classic buns you'd typically find in Japan. I believe the owners are actually Taiwanese and you can see a bit of Taiwanese influence - for example, there's a bit more egg wash on some of the buns, and they also offer almond cookies and taro buns. In any case, everything is always consistently delicious. We always stop by when we're in the area. On the last trip, we bought: Taro Mochi Bun ($2.80) - This has some very lightly sweetened taro paste on top of a small mochi disk in a fluffy bun topped with almonds. Wish there was a bit more mochi inside! QQ Machi ($2.85) - This might be a special bake? It was on a hand written sign. Probably my favorite item I've bought at Moose - chewy mochi-like texture throughout with chocolate chips studded in and a bit of a bitter grassy taste from matcha powder. Curry Pan ($2.70) - Not a lot of filling, quite mild curry with vegetables. Be sure to toast this one - it improves the crust tremendously. Black Milk Tea, Large, Half Sugar ($5) - The tea taste really comes through in this drink, with a bit of a tart astringency from the black tea. Half sweet is good. Moose really fills the drink to the brim without ice as filler - I got regular ice and when I received the drink, there were no ice chunks at all. The boba is just slightly firmer than I prefer, but good overall. I definitely recommend stopping by to pick up some bread. *There is technically another bakery in Clawson that has Japanese-style baked goods, but the focus and offerings there are decidedly different. read more

They sell out quick most days but if you can get there you'll have a great selection of delicious, fluffy buns filled with a myriad of delights like red beans, custard, cream, , coconut, fruits like strawberry and melon, matcha, etc. Plus savories like garlic bacon, hot dogs, seaweed pork, etc. And they're all SO beautiful. The animal shaped ones are particularly fun (kids will love them!). They also have amazing cream cakes. My favorites being the strawberry cream and chocolate. And the eclairs are also excellent! The third time's the charm. I had wanted to try the Japanese-styled buns from this shop these last two years. The first time, during the pandemic, the shop was only open for pick-up with orders placed online. However, I was unfamiliar with the menu and the short descriptions were insufficient. The second time, most items were sold out - they were only serving beverages. So this third time, both buns, pastries, and beverages were available. The previous bakery, Happy Hippo, arranged their items on trays and customers served themselves. At Moose Pastry, the items were also arranged on trays, but in plastic bags for quick grab-and-go. I picked a sugar-coated twist doughnut, a bun studded with red-wine-soaked raisins, and two other buns. All of them were lightly sweetened and incredibly soft. I first started coming here shortly after Hippo shut down - the Japanese bakery that much of Moose was based off of. At the time, there weren't many places like this around, so it was kind of a special and unique experience just coming here. The pastries were overall good with some unique options, although many were very gimmicky, lacking any real creativity or intent and seeming to only exist to appear different. In more recent years, the quality has gone down. Some items still stand out, but many are a total waste - dry, hard, and/or served cold. The cream and custard here is super good, though, and so are some of the cakes. The menu is sold by days, which limits one's ability to get things. The "full" menu is only available on Sunday and Saturday, a sort of "half" menu can be bought on Friday, and a few common items are available the other days. That being said, there's never a "full" offering here. They have dozens of items listed on their website with maybe only two or three dozen available at any given moment and with no consistency. Online ordering is pointless because of this. They won't have what you want most of the time and their website does not account for this, making it so you find out you can't get what you wanted once you drive there and not a moment sooner. Online drink orders are fulfilled, however. Prices also notably go up every so often, which is a killer given what you're getting. The teas are okay. Not traditional or authentic, but usually worth getting. You won't have the same options or presentation as other bubble tea shops, although I've always preferred the taste here. Some days they're flavorful with soft boba, and other day they're tasteless with hard boba. Love the macchiatos, which are consistently good. Coffee here is almost nonexistent. It is a tea shop, after all. If you want a cup, it's there. There are some decent baristas here. One in particular is spectacular, with reliably high quality and fast drinks and a deeply unique flair to her style and personality. But, a great barista who gives special treatment can't sell a bad product. There's simply no reason to come to Moose any longer with so many better options now - it's no longer viable, save for a very rare tea every so often. I like to try to the mango mousse cake whenever it's available and it's delicious + who doesn't like mango! I want to try out more teas but my go to is the Oolong milk tea! I feel as though it's not for everyone, but it tastes delicious to me and they make it just right! The Taro tea is a great one as well. I love that they have sanitizer right before you walk in to grab a tray. After much debate of buying one of everything I choose, Hokkaido cheese bun, matcha red bean bun, honey walnut bun, doraemon, and a curry bread. I love small town bakeries that remind me of my best childhood memories. The nostalgia hits fast when you open the doors here. Fresh pastries with a touch of love. I just came here on a day they are closed though lol. So don't come on Mondays or tuesdays. Or you will be severely disappointed. Ajishin can't help because they are closed too! But the market across (and diagonal from them) have a soft patch if you need a quick fix! :) The bubble teas are creamy and delicious. My favorite is taro. It's even a bit warm with fresh tapioca. What a cute bakery. I didn't go inside or anything but they're baked goods are delicious and a bit below average cost for these kind of baked goods. Their online system is awesome. They keep it updated very well! I've heard about thing bakery for a long time. I'm just never in the area. It's so good! They have cut buns with animal faces and such. I can't wait to try more buns in the future. Their boba tea cups are so cute. I got the tiger milk tea and I thought it was simple. It was alright. I'm used to the boba made with muscavado sugar. But these were basic tapioca balls With a brown sugar swirl and milk. I don't think there is any caffeine in it. Which is fine with me. Not my favorite place for boba tea. Two words: Cheese Tea!! Moose Pastry & Tea has the best cheese tea in metro Detroit. It's called macchiato on the menu, but it is the same creamy and salty foam you would expect from cheese tea. I have tried cheese tea at several other cafés, but Moose Pastry & Tea has the real deal that you won't find anywhere else. Sometimes they run out of the cheese tea because it is so popular. In addition to cheese tea, Moose Pastry & Tea also has tasty fruit tea and, of course, pastries. I have only tried the An Butter Bread and enjoyed the savory saltiness of the butter with the slight sweetness of the red bean. My mother was a fan of the An Butter Bread, too. Service is friendly and accommodating considering how popular it is. On the weekends it isn't unusual to find long lines of people packed in this tiny shop to buy its pastries, sandwiches, and other baked goods. I do not live anywhere near Novi, but I find myself going out of my way to patron this business whenever I have a craving for authentic Asian café drinks and pastries. read more

I'm writing this review after having been here twice (they are take out only at the moment). This is a solid boba tea place with great bakery items, but currently seems to have limited options. I got jasmine green tea both times with boba. Their boba is excellent - the right amount of sweet and chewy. I didn't see the usual fruit flavored green tea options that I normally see at other boba tea places, but again may just be a limited menu due to the pandemic. The baked goods I tried were the honey walnut bread and the coconut bread, both of which were tasty, though the coconut bread was a tad too sweet for my taste. Absolutely fabulous! The softness of the bread is just sublime. We ordered red bean buns, a raisin & nut bun, a bun that had half chocolate/half cream filling, and even a TAKOYAKI bun! I had no idea such a thing existed! Note: Takoyaki is octopus, so it definitely had that real octopus sort of funk. All the bread had a beautiful shine to the top, and it's obvious that whomever is doing the baking is highly skilled and really cares about their product! DELICIOUS! We were very sad to see a Hippo go, we had been customers for years, but extremely excited to see Moose has taken over in its place. We were told many of the same staff has stayed on to produce their delicious variety of baked goods. They also added an interesting tea and coffee menu. Upon arrival the selection appeared sparse compared to Hippo, but I was informed that many batches of goodies are made throughout the day and are put out once they are ready. The business is opened until seven in the evening, and they assured me product will be refilled up until that time. And, it did appear that trays were on deck inside in the kitchen to keep the Yumminess coming. We selected a few pastries to start. We had the Doraemon, a vanilla custard filled bread, the fried hotdog, mini sausage with ketchup, fried curry vegetarian potato bun, and a matcha green tea chocolate chip bun. They were all delicious. I took them home for the family and everyone is eager to try more. I really hope Moose finds success here because we look forward to coming back. I had to think about the rating on this place for a long time, wavering between 3 and 4 stars. I'm definitely happy that there's another Japanese bakery that took over after Pastry Hippo closed down. I've visited twice so far and have gotten a decent sampling of their menu: coconut bun, French cream, strawberry shortcake, strawberry polo bun, corn mayo bun, and bacon garlic bun. As a general statement, the bread is really good: it's got great texture and flavor. The French cream is by far the best thing I've had there. It was a little baguette filled with light and sweet buttercream. The baguette was as good as any I've gotten from other bakeries. It had a buttery, savory crust and tasted very fresh. The weakest were the corn mayo bun and the strawberry shortcake. I know at a lot of Chinese bakeries they have mayo/green onion/ham buns, which has a bit of each in it - there is enough mayo to provide some tanginess and creaminess. Here, I opened up the bun and it was completely stuffed with mayo and corn. While stuffing a bun with a custard or light buttercream works, stuffing one full of mayo does not...I felt gross having a mouthful of mayo and ended up discarding most of it. As for the strawberry shortcake, I found the cake to be kind of dry, crumbly, and just overall mediocre. This was disappointing, since the cake from Pastry Hippo was always so moist and flavorful. It's also over $3 per slice of cake - overpriced. The rest of the buns were decent and tasty, but nothing that I would really crave. Everything is priced a little high, but not outrageously. There are a couple more there that I'd be interested in trying, and I'd always be up for getting another French cream. That French cream pushes this place from 3 to 3.5 stars, and I'm going to round up. read more
