Though I was recommended a different surgeon, Dr. Murry, I went with Kader to get the surgery done before the 2016 year was out. I paid for that mistake. Kader made no major slipups, but in doing the C5-C6 fusion he ended up tightening the spaces around the foramina, the places where the nerves traveling to the arms and back exit the spine - even though I had told Kader that I was an active amateur musician, and that playing was a big part of my life. Within two weeks after the surgery I started noticing symptoms down my arms and into my hands that were not there before the surgery. Except for brief periods, they did not go away, and slowly grew worse and worse. Kader refused to see any problem and only told me to take more drugs - even a year and a half after the surgery. Finally, my pain doctor recommended Dr, Ellegala of Sonospine. Three months ago he opened up the spaces that Kader closed, and my hands already feel stronger and more dexterous than they have in years. Ellagala's surgery technique isn't covered by insurance, and I had to pay $30K, but he fixed Kader's bungle, so it was worth it. But I'd rather not have had to pay it in the first place. When you pick a surgeon, you want someone who is committed to doing the best he or she can for you. Abraham Kader is not that surgeon, so he is not the surgeon you want. Go with Murry if you can.

Dr. Sebastian is extremely knowledgeable, efficient and detail oriented. A genuinely compassionate human being. I always felt safe under her care. Dr. Sebastian took ample time to explain all the details of my upcoming surgery, answered all my questions and guided me through the entire process. I never felt rushed in her office. I tried giving this place a couple chances as with the pandemic everyone has been effected so we have to be lenient, but I have officially hit my end point. My results were not delivered to me but another family member which was really irresponsibly as per HIPPA. Due to that wrong information was not passed back to me. I didn't find this out till months later when needing results for work and going on the lab website to retrieve them. Another is that one of my relatives who has trouble with technology had asked me to help them on retrieving their results as well. However, when inputting their name no results were found! It's been over 2 months past the appointment in which they had gone to the lab to get test done!! So then we tried called the office to ask what was going on and they just told us that it was our own responsibility to figure out the test and call it in ourselves?? How great, you write the order but can't help us retrieving it. Well thanks for nothing. I was actually able to retrieve the results after going through papers that were kept after each appointment/ order. Thank goodness these papers were saved! And the reason to why we couldn't find the result? The name was incorrect! How is the name incorrect?? They have done test here prior and received results, but this time and this test just happened to be a different name when there was no chance in the name of the ID given or the insurance card? Anyway, thanks for the past care that we received here. We will not be coming back.

However the staff is great and Dr Patel in particular makes himself very available to patients either in-person or via e-mail. I find him very attentive to my concerns and as an overseas traveler, he ensures I have what I need in my trips. He also ensures follow-up as necessary with labs and takes the time to explain the findings. He and his staff are prompt regarding prescriptions and in the past were also very helpful getting insurance approvals for certain medications. A long drive but worth the attention patients receive.

Finally decided I wanted it fixed. Had outpatient surgery at Inova Hospital and the Surgery nurses responded to his name with regard and compliments - a good sign. The surgery was quick and I had very little pain during recovery. In fact I walked 2 miles the next day and 4 miles a day each day the week after the surgery. I was back on my road bike day 6 after the surgery. Look up the recovery for this operation and you will see what a great experience I had. Dr. Kodama is friendly, calming and his staff is efficient and pleasant. If I ever need a general surgeon again its Dr. Kodama for me!
