The delivery was really speedy and our food came in under 30 minutes. I despise when delivery takes forever (lazy girls problems) so things were already off to a good start. I went with my go-to's. I always do this when I'm trying a place out for the first time, just because I know it won't be worth a second try if they can't get my go-to right. Pretty sound logic, I know. Curry puffs were A+. Okay, they only came with three. I've never had an order with less then five, I'll just throw it out there. However, what they lacked in quantity they made up for in quantity and I suppose that's fine. They were really puffy, thick dumplings filled with a delicious curry mixture (I have no idea what it actually is, but it's standout) and a tangy side of cucumber vinaigrette on the side. Next up was the pad see ew. I was debating between pad see ew and pad thai, so next time I'll have to try the latter. It might be a tough decision again though, because after trying the pad see ew once it's all I ever want to eat again. For the rest of time. A perfect blend of noodles, chicken and broccoli with an ample amount of chicken. Often times Thai spots will serve a huuuuge portion that really just looks larger because of an abundance of noodles and a lack of meat. I've ate at this place twice. The first time I actually had a good experience, I thought the sushi tasted great and the service was also great. However, the second time wasn't the best. As usual I ordered sushi, and my friend ordered the chicken teriyaki bento box (lunch special). The one good thing about the lunch special is the price of course, but I guess you do get what you pay for. The first thing we noticed when we got the food is that the chicken in the bento box looked a little bit strange. To make a long story short, all of the chicken ended up in the garbage, sadly it wasn't cooked properly. The strips were so hard that they couldn't even be chewed and some were visibly uncooked. Being on Grove St, I had to try out the food here, and I am happy to say that I can't get enough! The steamed mini dumplings are in this creamy, spicy sauce that is so tasty, I order two servings every time I go. The sushi is good quality and rolls are unique; the Summer Roll is my favorite. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but when it comes to food, this restaurant has the rare quality of doing every kind of its cuisine well. More Express is good, not great. I think the reason I have to take away two stars is that of the extremely slow service. Whether I take out or dine in, service is always pretty slow. I recently visited and it just seemed as though they take on way more than they can handle. After calling about three times with no answer, but knowing they were open, I decided to just walk in and order takeout, the wrong idea. I walked in and they were so backed up with orders phone calls, online orders, etc. Despite that, More Express does offer quality food. I frequently order the sushi and pad thai and always leave pleased. I have been here a few times and never had a bad experience. My wife and I went here last weekend for lunch, she had ordered the General Tso chicken and I got the roast duck and a monster roll. When my wife's food came out, she noticed in the broccoli was worms. She notified the server who took the apologized and took the food to make her a new plate. The replacement was completely free of anything that shouldn't have been there and he gave us 10% off the bill. Otherwise, the food was good as always, roast duck was cooked perfectly and tender and the monster roll was out of the park as it always is. Will be back next time I'm in downtown JC. read more

After a second failed attempt to go to La Taqueria on corner of Grove and Grand we walked down the street and decided to check out More Express. Location is next to Razza and Park & Sixth on Grove Street. The cuisine is in the stress in Japanese especially sushi. The small plate is an interesting location for the bathroom down the hall passing the kitchen to get to it. Noticed on some of those wall pictures that you might have outdoor seating when it's warmer weather. We ordered edamame appetizer and some sushi rolls which were decent. Entrees we ordered chicken Thai basil and something else with red peppers that were very spicy, warning! That was okay little annoying. Prices were average for the area but the service was less par. Ordered again a week later -- shrimp pad thai, salmon avocado and a California roll and it was even better the second time around. For the second time around, I ordered pick up since I was driving through Grove St. With a name like More Express, I was expecting a standard sushi place so I drove past the restaurant a few times. It was beautifully decorated, like an upscale Asian fusion restaurant. I am planning to explore their menu and am looking forward to ordering more from this restaurant. This place is the move for lunch. After reading some of the other reviews, I was a bit surprised because I really enjoyed my experience eating here, but I think the bad reviews are mostly for dinner service. First off, everyone who works here is super nice! Second, this place is chill af on the inside. It has big windows and the chairs are comfortable. They play pop music, which makes the mood calm and cozy. They also have a HUGE back area with outdoor seating. It's honestly really pretty and there's a lil waterfall in the corner. Now on to the food- my boyfriend and I both got the Pad Thai Bento Box for lunch. I couldn't believe how much food I was getting for $10! The sushi was good and so was the pad thai - definitely 100x better than Sawadee down the street. We were both full and happy with our choices. Hidden gem with a beautiful courtyard in the back. I am such a sucker for the backyard lights and they are displayed so beautifully with a small water fountain and adorable decor in the back. Wow. I can't believe I'm giving this place one star but, I am. Have things gone down hill since 2009 or have my taste buds matured and grown? Not sure, but, came here last night and I was super disappointed. First service, listen, I don't need that happy, outgoing service with bling like at Friday's or what not but, I do need someone that doesn't ignore me looking at them after I'm seated to come over 5 minutes later and ask me what I'm ordering. It's 100 degrees out, all I wanted was water. We went with dumplings, shumai, green curry with chicken and the summer lovin' roll. The dumplings and shumai were nothing. Literally no taste. Not enjoyable. The green curry was delicious however the chicken and what little of it there was, was over cooked. It was good curry though, I'll give it up with the pieces of eggplant. Delicious and for $12 it wasn't horrible but, definitely not worth that amount. Now, where the meal really wet the bed was the sushi. Wow. It was inedible. I eat everything and we left part of the $15 roll behind. The roll consisted of eel with banana and mango topped with spicy tuna, seaweed salad and eel sauce. First, it came and it looked so unappetizing. If I was a chef, I wouldn't have left it leave the kitchen. The spicy tuna on top of the roll was just pink mush that was warm and not good; I'm gonna throw it out there, it was disgusting. It was overpowered by banana, I couldn't taste the mango, the roll immediately fell apart upon touching it with a chopstick and I could go on. Eel... what eel? Now, the meal doesn't end with bad sushi, it ends with the fact that not one server, manager, owner came over to ask us why we weren't eating our sushi, or if we needed anything, they literally came took the plates and dropped off the check. Well, that was $50 spent in 25 minutes. We left hungry, not mad but more like, what the hell just happened here? I'm not one to throw down the one star but, I'm gonna do it. Maybe just hook up with their noodle dishes but, I don't think I'll be coming here no MORE. (Get it). Overall, I would chalk this place up to some decent hot dishes with not so good sushi. read more

More is a decent, fusion-y Thai/sushi place on Grove's restaurant row. I can't speak as to service or atmosphere (I ordered pickup), but from first glance of the interior, it looks comfortable (if a bit cramped). The prep time on the food was 15 minutes and it was clear the food hadn't been sitting under a heat lamp. My pad si ew was warm, savoury, and thankfully not too heavy on the sauce. The veggie duck was that nice combination of chewy with just a bit of char. Why three stars, then? Because they used American broccoli. Seriously. What does it take to score some kai-lan? Chicken satay was very dry. The seaweed wrap for the eel hand roll was too dried out. The crab wonton was the one item that stood out - pretty good. Sushi and Thai in one cozy, intimate place? Perfect. The atmosphere and decor were nice and cozy. The walls were a lovely brick, and the lighting was dim, but not TOO dim. The menu was kind of perfect; lots of really great options for little money. I got a bowl of the coconut soup with vegetables and the peanut avocado roll. I loved both. Peanut avocado rolls are my favorite, but not a lot of sushi places have them (such a shame!). The servings were small (probably the tiniest sushi roll I've ever had), but I like that sort of thing. Of course, if you order something like fried rice or drunken noodles, the portions are much larger. My friend ordered the drunken noodles, and she was pleasantly stuffed at the end. We decided to split the green tea mochi ice cream before we left. What a delicious surprise! Neither of us had had mochi before, and we both enjoyed it. They covered it in cheap chocolate syrup, so that's a shame, but it was still tasty. Three things for just over $10? Awesome. Additionally, we had no issues with service. I kind of hate to do this, but I think I have to: Thursday had been a great sunny day, so I wanted to go to More for dinner, specifically because I wanted to sit outside in their garden and soak up the last of the sun. When we walked in and asked to sit in the garden, the hostess hesitated, saying she didn't want it to be "too cold." I get it: you don't want people to sit outside, then get cold and want to come in, and in the meantime the inside tables are full, and you've got a problem. I told the hostess I had brought a sweater and I'd be fine, and she said that the waiter would go out and check. I assumed he was checking the temperature. He came back a minute later, and said it was ok. So, we sat outside. The back garden, which you walk through the kitchen area to get to, seemed nice. We were the only 2 customers out there. Soon we got our appetizer (roti) and it was delicious as always. I noticed that our waiter was laughing nervously every time he came out, I thought it was because it was kind of chilly outside, especially as it was getting darker. Then I noticed my boyfriend turned his head real quick. I thought I saw a skinny tail out of the corner of my eye. "A squirrel," he said. "I don't think that was a squirrel tail." "Should we go inside?" Just then, an employee came out with a bowl of food, to eat her own dinner. I guess I thought that if there were more people in the garden, it would scare away the mouse or whatever that was. She was sitting behind me, so I couldn't see her, but a few minutes later, I heard her screech. Then she was shouting to the people in the kitchen. My boyfriend later told later that he saw her holding up her hands a foot apart as if to indicate it was "this big," but we didn't know what she was saying. Then our waiter came out again, this time with our sushi. If he had been told by the other employee that there was a rat, he would have suggest that we come inside, right? We were still trying to decide if we should ask to go inside, but now our food was here, and I guess I felt stupid because I had told the hostess that we would be fine outside that I shouldn't then try to move inside. In hindsight, I should have spoken up. We ate our sushi, the entire time talking about whether we had seen a mouse or a rat, glancing around at the ground around us, both nervous, looking and listening for rodents. I had my feet up on the cross-bar under the table. This is not the way to enjoy a meal. But I like More, I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt, I wanted to look the other way, literally. Then we saw the biggest rat I had ever seen running against the wall at the back of the building. It was seriously huge. We got up and immediately started to walk inside. The waiter came out and asked me if I was cold, and I said "I just want to go inside." My boyfriend stayed behind and told the waiter about the rat we had seen. The waiter tried to seat us inside, but I had lost my appetite. I was totally skeeved out and just wanted to leave. I hated paying $45 for food I didn't get to enjoy. We had each had a thai iced tea, shared one roti appetizer, and then each had a fancy sushi roll that we didn't finish. My boyfriend ordered a 2nd thai iced tea that the waiter graciously took off the tab. As I was waiting for them to run my credit card, two women came in and asked "Can we sit in the garden out back?" Right away, the staff led them to the garden. I was shaking my head "no," trying to get the eye of the hostess. Maybe I should have spoke up and shouted "Don't go out there! Huge Rats!" but I didn't want to hurt business for a restaurant I had always liked before. But, really, how could they continue to seat people among the rats? That's gross, right? I thought of how they had tried to discourage us because it was "too cold," and I should have listened. (Was the waiter actually checking for rats when he went out to "check"?) But they hadn't even tried to discourage these two women. They could have said "Sorry, the back garden is closed." When the hostess came back I told her, "I was trying to tell you, you shouldn't seat them out there, there were rats." The woman replied, "We have tried many things to get rid of them, but it does not work. It's a garden, you know?" Either find a way to control the rats (poison? traps? better fences?) or close the garden area, but they were just too flippant about it just being "nature." Rats are gross. Your customers don't want to sit and eat with them. They knowingly seated other customers in the garden, just as they knew about the rats when they seated us. Seeing that made up my mind. I had always liked More, their food is good and I wanted to cut them some slack, but if they don't have a problem seating their customers among rats, I can't give them my business. I really do not understand how More Express has such low reviews and ratings. They have hands down the best green curry I have had since I've been back from Thailand. I was SOO pleased it tasted exactly like Thailand. The mango sauce dish was a special, ordered with shrimp, was also a WIN. Mixed in some sushi and ordered the rainbow roll which was also great. I would recommend the Thai iced tea as well. I think the majority of the reviews disliked the noodle dishes like pad Thai. We came here last night for a surprise engagement celebration. Located on Grove St. in Jersey City, right next door to The Merchant, More is a casual, understated Asian restaurant. There is outdoor seating on the sidewalk in the front, and then walk through, and find an adorable oasis in the backyard. Lights were strung from the trees, and there was a little man-made waterfall in the corner. They were very accommodating for our larger party of 10. AND, it is BYO.... so the champagne and the wine were flowing! As far as the food goes, we got edamame to start, which was.... well.... edamame. You can't really go wrong with that. The majority of us got sushi for dinner. The spicy tuna roll is my go-to. It was okay, but nothing to write home about. I also got tuna sushi, which, again... pretty good. My brother got fluke, striped bass and tuna sushi and thoroughly enjoyed all of them. The fish was fresh.... there just wasn't anything super stand-out about it. The wait staff was pleasant and accommodating. If you go on a nice day and plan on sitting outside, BRING BUG SPRAY. We all left there looking like we had chicken pox from all the mosquito bites we got. Okay, granted, we did all spend 10 minutes hiding behind the trees waiting for the "SURPRISE," so maybe we were asking for mosquito bites.... but some citronella candles would have been helpful.
