Terrible Experience and Disrespectful Customer Service I had a deeply disappointing experience with More Than Curly Hair Salon. On April 11, I visited the salon in person to inquire about their products and services. After speaking with stylist Quincy Jones, I booked an appointment for a cut and color on June 27 at 10:00 AM. I received a confirmation email and made arrangements in anticipation...taking a day off work and hiring childcare. When I arrived at the salon on June 27, I was told Quincy was out for medical reasons and that all of his appointments had been rescheduled. The issue? I was never notified. The receptionist checked their system and said my appointment had been canceled the same day it was booked. I showed them my confirmation email, clearly proving otherwise. Instead of offering any real apology or solution, I was told I simply needed to reschedule. I explained that I had lost a day's wages, invested time and money in travel, and arranged for childcare, none of which seemed to matter. I asked to speak to the owner, Melissa V. Melissa came over with a forced smile, and when I calmly expressed my disappointment, her demeanor quickly turned defensive and rude. I understand that medical emergencies happen, and I sincerely wish Quincy well, but the salon's handling of the situation was unacceptable. What started as a fake smile quickly turned hostile when I calmly expressed my frustration. I want to be clear: I understand that medical emergencies happen, and I wish Quincy a full recovery. My issue is with how the salon handled the situation. No effort was made to make up for the mistake, no offer to rebook sameday with another stylist, no voucher, not even a sample product from their fully stocked wall. When I asked if they could offer anything to make up for my wasted time, I was told I could receive 25% off a future appointment, as if that made up for my lost wages, travel time, and childcare costs. No genuine apology, no gesture of goodwill, no accountability, just a dismissive attitude and zero ownership of their mistake. I will never return to More Than Curly Hair Salon. Customer service is about more than just styling hair, it's about respecting people's time and treating them with dignity. Unfortunately, this salon failed on both fronts. A business that shows such little regard for its clients' time, money, and dignity is not one I can support. read more

This company is incredibly rude to their customers. I've experienced this first hand and when I simply spoke up and said they should be kinder I was retaliated against. Understand that we are all humans having a human experience. Also - for a curl focused salon, they should not be making people feel less than for their hair texture. NOT for people with 4c hair. do not waste your money on this establishment. i went in expecting to be well educated on how to take care of my 4c hair...ASHLEY kept repeating thesame thing and left me feeling even more confused. she washed and styled my hair and an hour later there was no noticeable difference. i was able to find better products at Walmart that actually made my hair feel soft and hydrated. They do NOT specialize in 4c hair, save your money. read more

I've searched for years to find a good curly hair dresser and I literally find a place called "more than curls" that's right by my house. How I didn't find them before now is a mystery to me but I'm so glad I did now!! The covid protocol is in the website. Call when you arrive, they temperature test, wear a mask at all times, your hair dresser let's you in. Wash your hands sit down and get your hair did. It's been about 2.5 weeks since I had my salon visit with Quincy. My hair feels so much better than it did before. I had a lot of hair cut off that I wanted to donate. This salon doesn't typically do dry cuts and hair had to be clean, and completely dry to donate. The minimum length to donate to the place I use is 8" and even though I've gone really short, I was just a little too short to be able to dry cut at 8" and then style it so we decided not to donate after all. I wanted to make sure I'd be able to manage my new short hair after leaving the salon so I got a lot of tips from Quincy. He taught me how to set my hair after each wash, what kind of products to use and how to dry it. Then told me to use leave in conditioner between washes. In the last few weeks I've tried my best to replicate what Quincy did. I've had some wins, some losses, tried a few different techniques and products. Today was one of my better attempts. Not sure if I just need to keep learning and trying new techniques or if I'm not using the right products but I guess if I have a bad run I'll have to call up and get advice. When I can't get it right it's too poofy and I look a little like a mushroom. It's hard to know when I've done a bad job till after the fact because you leave the house while it's still damp and let it dry naturally. Which is normal but when it's short it's more obvious when you screw it up. Everyone I've come across loves my new hair and think I can pull it off, so that's always comforting. read more

Aisha is wonderful and I love coming to this salon. My hair has never looked as good as when I leave More Than Curly. Everyone is always so friendly and I can tell they like working with each other which makes it fun for me as a client. Melissa, the owner, is always so kind and lovely and just makes you feel good. This is the first salon I've been to where I felt like someone actually understands my hair, what's best for it, and taught me how to up my hair game. In the past I've been to countless salons where I experienced hair-shame simply because the stylist didn't know how to handle hair like mine (curly, thick, long) and my experience at More Than Curly has always been the opposite- encouraging, accepting, and fun. Coming to this salon I guarantee you will leave with healthy, beautiful styled hair, but if you're like me you're more focused on how the heck you're going to keep it that way after. I'm happy to say these ladies teach you their process to get your style, which in addition to the beautiful curls you'll get, keeps the moisture locked in. I've taken care of my own hair for a long time, often trimming, deep treating etc myself and have grown it long, so I had my own regimen before. Since moving to Denver 3 years ago though, I've had trouble keeping my hair healthy and moisturized (it's DRY here y'all). The year before I had this appointment, I'd honestly given up on health and was just focusing on length. Thankfully, the setting routine and other tips Rhonda showed me have been helpful in keeping it moisturized specifically in this DRY climate we live in, in Colorado. It makes my curls pop and defined (throughout the week not just after wash day!) and makes my routine a ton easier while also keeping the moisturize in. I'm really thankful! I met Melissa, the owner of More Than Curly when she was working at Salon Bodhi. I was growing out my natural hair and trying to get rid of my relaxed ends. I big chopped my hair with her and she did such an amazing job. It was actually the best salon visit I've ever had. The reasons why this was the best salon visit I've had is because 1. Melissa was very kind and willing to show me steps into how to take care of my natural hair 2. She suggested different methods of styling my natural hair. 3. The price of the haircut was honestly worth it. It was affordable for my budget 4. My hair wasn't damaged at the end of the visit! I didn't want to write a bad review about my haircut because I really liked the salon and my hairstylist. I asked for a consultation before hand to make sure they would know what I wanted for my hair but I was told that wasn't really how they operated. I told my stylist (Yuma) that I wanted to help my length and just redo the layers a little bit. When I came in my hair was at my armpits and by the end of my cut it didn't even touch my shoulders. It was very upsetting because I was clear about keeping my length and curly hair takes so long to grow that it will probably be 2 years before I can get my length back. I waited until two weeks after my cut to write this review with the hope that when I styled it myself it would feel different but my ponytail is tiny and I could barely put it in a bun. She also thinned it without asking which has now made my hair a lot more prone to tangling and just rougher over all. It feels like the years of work I put into my hair has all been undone. I hope that this review will help other make an informed decision about their hair and that Yuma will be able to work with people's hair instead of just giving them a standard but without considering that every persons curly hair is different. read more

About a month ago, I got my hair cut by a salon claiming to be certified in deva cut, and the stylist absolutely trashed my curls. They thin the hell out of my hair and cut it so uneven. Not to mention they left the side my hair untouched. So, imagine the back of your head being thinned out and uneven layered, and the front/side of your hair just cut to a certain length. It was a mess!!, I made an appointment with More Than Curls and had Aisha as my stylist. She did an amazing job fixing the horrible haircut I got from a different salon. Aisha didn't even have to cut it super short to fix it. I was so glad she was able to fix my hair. When I tell you I cried for days after my horrible experience with the other salon, I was sure my hair had to be cut super super short. Aisha was super informative about what was done to my hair from the other salon, what was wrong with it and how she was going to fix it. She has magic hands yall!! Highly recommend her!! read more

Extremely disappointed with my most recent experience. I was charged $70 more than I was anticipating due to their recommendation of appointment length. If there was an issue with the length of my hair and an additional charge was going to be accrued, I should have been notified at the BEGINNING of the appointment, so I could have made the decision to leave or proceed (and expecting the extra charge). Don't tell me the increased charge was because of time needed to complete styling when I spent a quarter of an hour with my head in the sink with no one touching my hair. The only reason there are two stars is because Quincy was awesome throughout the appointment, and I feel he did a good job. Melissa began setting my hair with the product in the sink around the time my appointment should have been ending. She was aggressively pulling my hair, and lecturing me on the need to come in "every 6 months". She then walked away without saying anything and left me with my head in the sink for at least 15 minutes (extremely uncomfortable), after which Quincy came back and finished applying product. Needless to say I won't be returning. It's a shame because the previous visits I've had were overall positive, especially with Marissa before she left. I've been taking great care of my hair at home and don't need to be treated like this, especially when I'm paying so much money. I can think of a lot of other uses for $200. As others mentioned in their comments, I tipped only out of respect for Quincy and the work he did. Although the product left my hair crunchy and my shoulders were white with flakes off product for three days following my appointment. read more

I have been seeing Melissa for quite a few years and every time my experience is amazing. I spent a few years and saw at least 4 other curly hair stylists before finding More Than Curly. Even when I moved to Nashville for a year, I would always schedule my hair appointments based on when I would be back in Denver because once you find someone who understands your curls, it's hard to give that up! My hair always looks phenomenal, everyone working is so kind and friendly, and it's always a peaceful experience.
