A friend of mine goes here faithfully. I've always had a hard time going to a hair salon, (and believe me, this time was my first time in several years!). Mainly because for a woman, it's darn expensive! And if your like me and have not a stroke of talent doing hair & make up, it sucks because you'll (or maybe just me) get ripped off (even at the local budget cuts chain).
So I came here after I've had it with my crappy hair not being cut in yrs, and looking like I'd given up and flat iron was it for me with the bonus of split ends accenting my already dull hair. My girlfriend since childhood usually gets her hair done with highlights, cut and style. And I must say it always looks so nice and professional (she's also like me, we're not exactly gifted hair stylists).
It's a small salon in an old school neighborhood mostly Hispanic like myself. When I was a little girl, I use to go with my mother on bus to the beauty salons in East L.A. and even Pico Rivera when we lived out there. And because I'm not 100% bilingual was always afraid of them because of my embarrassment of my pronunciation and attempt at conversing in Espanol. I shame my relatives to this day :(
But, when I came here, I felt very comfortable and they were so sweet, accommodating when it comes to hair and people. They have the hair style charts posted up, if you can't think of what you want, just point at the pictures (numbered) on the wall.. By they way, they also do Mens hair and have the most common styles/cuts men get (high and tight taper for example). I also told her what I wanted - a cut and style, bangs and waves and she knew exactly what I wanted.
This salon is handled by two women (maybe more who were off) but have a nice size of faithful clientele consisting of older and young women and men. And they do get busy, they do make you wait, but based on the times I came with my friend when she did her hair only, wait is not that long and like most, they fit you in between people getting their hair done. Place was ventilated and although a little dated, very accommodating and cozy.
Prices are listed on a small board, but you can call and she/they will pretty much tell you exact prices (as long as you are well detailed in what you want). Now I didn't get a chance to ask if it was Cash only (it looked like) but I will update and confirm it with them when I go back. And the prices were very reasonable, which is why now I am able to go and can start my way back maintaining my hair every other month with no more excuses.
Both ladies were nice, made you feel at home, explain to ensure your getting what you want and now I'm no longer scared to go to the little mama & papa salons (well this one for starters) anymore.
Also being middle aged, I can now walk with my head up (in style) with a look of a mature modern woman (no bouffant either, although the day will come & I'll embrace then)
