    Piña colada

I had no idea this spot was opening up so close to home. I was on my way next door when I stumbled across Moreno and decided to give it a spontaneous try. The interior/atmosphere is beautiful. Union City is starting to boom with Equadorian cuisine but we were in need of something a lil more upscale. Especially on this street. That being said prices are very reasonable, I can always appreciate when a restaurant takes in to consideration the locals and community around them. I ordered a Yapingacho, and a piña colada. I originally thought I'd go for a bolón but I really wanted to try something with their peanut sauce.y dish was really really delicious, and the best equadorian food I've had so far. It came with steak, sausage, rice, and potato patties topped with egg and peanut sauce, and a salad. The steak had a great grilled flavor, the rice was perfect, the potato patties were filled with cheese, and went great with the odd but delicious combo of fried egg and peanut butter. I may ask for the egg to be a cooked a tad more next time just because the yolk was a lil overwhelming to me. The salad was delicious because it came with the limey cilantro mix of veggies they use in their ceviche. Portion sizes are huge. This plate also came with plantains, they forgot to add them to the plate but were kind enough to give them to me to go with my leftover once I noticed. The only thing I did not like was the piña colada, it was just too watery and not creamy enough for my taste. I can't wait to come back and try other items off the menu. Please come support this new local buisness!

We arrived in the evening for dinner and were seated quickly. The food came out very fast and was well-prepared, very flavorful. Their menu is authentic. Overall a great experience, the staff let us take our time and we really enjoyed ourselves. We want to come back!

I give this place a 4 out of 5 because there was good portions, the food came out fresh and fast, the interior is so cute and they played good music. I deduct a point because there was no host stand and I felt like the service was just fine. The empanadas de verde were crispy but a bit oily. The yapingachos were a bit dry in my opinion but everything else on the plate was stellar. I would go back for more Maduros and carne asada. Also the guanabana was sooo refreshing. This place was busy on a Sunday night, but for good reason. it's a great meal.

I preface this review by saying I am Ecuadorian. I know Ecuadorian food well but it sounds like most people are just discovering it. The food, ambiance, and service at Moreno's were top notch. The place is thoughtfully decorated. The staff is welcoming and don traditional Panama hats (they are original to Ecuador). We ordered a Bolon w/ pork bits to start (mashed, fried plantain ball with cheese). My partner ordered a Chaulafan Mixto (Ecuadorian fried rice with steak, chicken, and shrimp.) I had the Llapingacho which is a traditional dish that comes with potato pancakes, rice, eggs, chorizo, steak, salad, sweet plantains and a tasty peanut sauce. If this sounds like a lot, it is! The portions are huge. We had plenty of leftovers to take home. These are all meant to share. I also had a fresh passion fruit shake. Refreshingly tart! There was a gentleman beautifully playing the saxophone which was a nice touch! They currently do not take reservations but the place is always packed! Thankfully they do have valet parking since it can be tough to find parking in Union City.

¡De ley, la comida está riquísima! Great service, great quality, and a delicious ceviche de pescado. No beer, but you can bring your own. Warm and inviting decor, perfect level of lighting and music.

I came here on a Saturday for lunch and I did not like the food. I came for caldo de salchicha and bollo de pescado. First I had to wait for a table. It was unorganized because we were told there were no tables. Then we saw that outside there was no order. That's when I sat down at a table outside. We were told there were no tables inside available but we saw other people being seated. Then when we ordered the food that was also a delay. So we had one waiter and he was great but it was too many tables for him to handle. I had to go inside to ask for silverware. Then we had the appetizer but no sauce for it. Other tables revived the corn with the sauces but we didn't due to the staff being overwhelmed. So we ordered the empanada de platano con queso y Corviche. First the empanada was really good and I recommend it. I have never had Corviche before so I have nothing to compare it to. I liked it very much and would definitely order it again. The main course was caldo de salchica and chulaflan. The caldo was not very good; it was missing some stuff in it and it was not hot. Also there was a spice which it had too much of. I have definitely had better caldo de salchica. Then my niece ordered the chaulafan which was salty and not made like I have had it. The shrimp was not in the rice; it was on the side of it. So for reference my mother is from the coast and that is usually the type of food I eat. To pay the bill we waited another 30 minutes. So the staff is very nice but they are not equipped to handle the amount of people being waited on. Then the food was not very good in my opinion. Now it could have been an off day because there were alot of people or it could be my palate. So no I would not go back because I live far and I did not like the experience enough to repeat it.

UPDATE: Went back and tried the encebollado (fish stew or otherwise known as the national hangover soup), the salchicha seca (blood sausage), lunch special of caldo de bola (beef, plantain and peanut soup) accompanied by grilled chicken breast with rice and red beans. The encebollado in this case lacked flavor and onions and cilantro, possibly aji peruano. It tasted like a basic fish stew with yucca. It was loaded with fish, this is a plus. I took it home and added a fresh handful of cilantro and red onions and it was better. I would give it a 3.5, I have def had better! The blood sausage was delicious and the portion was huge, a bit pricey coming in at almost 20 bucks! I would give it 4 stars. Caldo de bola was delicious not to thick and not too much peanut sauce, could have used a bit more meat but overall I give it 4.5 stars. The grilled chicken was soo tender very well cooked and flavorful, rice was good and red beans though a tad salty again, delicious. For the lunch special of 15 bucks I would give it 4.5 stars. Service was decent this time, have several staff standing around and you have to catch their attention for assistance Overall I give them a 4.5, place is a bit inconsistent with flavors and service, but worth trying for the first time and/or to open your possibility up to the Ecuadorian cuisine. Food was really good, but a bit salty, still edible so deserves the 5 stars. We arrived past 830pm and service was still great. Atmosphere is nice and suits the pricing of each plate. (more expensive than other Ecuadorian spots, but worth it). Tried the Desayuno Montubio (steak, peppers, onions tomato in red sauce, two eggs and a plantain cheese and pork meat/rind ball) , bolon was mixto with both sweet and regular plantain. The flavor was very different, more buttery, but very good! They did not skimp on chicharrón or cheese. The meat was tender, sauce a bit salty. Also had Seco de Gallina (Hen Stew, usually in a beer sauce). It was very good, great portion of meat, 3 big slices of sweet plantains, and a few slices of avocado. However, sauce again a bit salty. The hot sauce is amazing and the Naranjilla shake in water, was SPOT ON! For appetizer had the Maduro con Queso (sweet plantains with cheese) good portion, well cooked. It did not bring ecuadorian cheese, but available upon request. (also sell it by the pound) Def recommend trying this place out, and will def come back to try other plates Food was really good, but a bit salty, still edible so deserves the 5 stars. Got to say props to the owner for creating such a beautiful atmosphere with such kind workers! I was absolutely amazed with the vibes coming here! I mean are you serious I get to eat with live music in front of me while eating dishes filled with exquisite flavors?? Best Ecuadorian Restaurant i've been to yet! Loved the small details added to this restaurant I truly felt like I was in Ecuador! All coworkers wear cute yet simple fits that embrace the culture! Overall my experience was a 10/10 and definitely recommend for anyone to go without a doubt!

    Pia Colada

Bollo de pescado was incredibly tasty. I felt "home"after having the first bite. Encebollado was delicious. Carne asada was seasoned properly, comes with a side of rice and beans, 2 patacones and a baked potato with cream cheese on top. My pinacolada was perfect as well as the Mora juice. Service was good, willing to stop by again.

    Encebollado de Pescado con chifle

Amazing Encebollado de Pescado! The broth was full of flavor, the fish was fresh, and the portion was just right. Moreno Restaurant really knows how to bring the authentic taste of Ecuador to the table. Highly recommend!

At work, the Godfather wanted to order (unusual for him to suggest it; usually I'm the 1 pushing for us to order out, and he's invariably resistant, although ultimately, he's acquiescent, although just as invariably he blames me for "pushing him into it" as he gobbles down whatever food it was we've ordered). I was willing but wanted to try something different than our usual fare (burgers, Chinese, Japanese, sandwiches). Someone else mentioned Exotic Eats, as a younger co-worker had ordered from there recently and seemed to enjoy what he had eaten. I asked, "Does this younger co-worker have a discriminating palate?" (Not actually being quite the jerk I oftentimes seem to be, I did of course use less pretentious, overblown verbiage in asking my question.) The reply was, "He's young; he'll order almost anything and like it." So...it might be great; it might be horrible. So we took a chance. They deliver, and I was intrigued by their on-line menu. I can't remember what the Godfather ordered, or another co-worker who wanted us to include him in what had once been known as the Lunchbox Mafia, but I ordered "the Island Bowl." Sliced jerk chicken breast on a bed of Mac & Cheese with jerk BBQ sauce. Being hungry, I ordered a side of blueberry cornbread, and the dessert of banana pudding cheesecake. All of it washed down with my ever-present bottle of Poland Spring water. We didn't have to wait long for it to be delivered. As I mentioned in my introductory remarks, I found the food fabulous. The jerk chicken in its BBQ sauce had a tangy sting, but it wasn't unpleasant or pain-producing. And I have to say-- the Mac & Cheese was the best I've had since my late mother used to make it for me in childhood. It's a baked "dry" Mac & Cheese as opposed to the overly sauced (and bland) version you get in most restaurants these days (all it was missing was the crumbled crackers that my mother used to put on top of it). Pure deliciousness, as they say. The blueberry cornbread was the perfect accompaniment, and the banana pudding cheesecake was wonderfully smooth, creamy, and decadent. I wasn't feeling bloated to the point of discomfort once I had finished it all, but I definitely felt "well fed." My fellow partakers were equally as enthused. Prices were fair, portions were immeasurably more than adequate, and the meal was luxuriously satisfying on every single level. As mentioned, delivery didn't take long at all, and it arrived hot. I'm not entirely sure how to classify the cuisine. The website described it as "Soul Food" with a "Caribbean Spirit." A long-time friend of mine is Jamaican, and she used to throw a big feast for friends and family every summer (I was usually the only white person invited, which was never any sort of a problem, although once a little kid of 4 or 5 looked at me with hostility and said, "What are YOU doing here?"), before health issues sidelined that annual event. She was a great cook, and everything was fresh-- jerk chicken, fish, ackee that always reminded me of scrambled eggs, breadfruit, sorrel liquor, etc. Despite the quality of the food served, I never really acquired a taste for Jamaican cuisine (I ventured out once to a Jamaican restaurant in Perth Amboy with friends; they were enthusiastic about it but it wasn't of the same quality as my friend served, and obviously didn't transform me into a "fan"), but I don't know that Exotic Eats is Jamaican per se. But I know that what I had was delicious and filling, and I can't wait to order from Exotic Eats again. Obviously, very highly recommended.

For our main meals, we ordered the oxtail and the jerk chicken, and both were cooked to perfection with deep, authentic flavors. We are already planning our next trip back just to get more of that incredible mac and cheese!

I've had the Dorado, Branzino, Faroe Island Salmon, the cod, and the monkfish. They have even had sardines which are my favorite. Fresh whole sardines are hard to come by. All of the fish that I had tasted good and was very fresh. The staff members are very friendly and are eager to help. They clean your fish and cut it however you like. Definitely a great experience if you're a fish lover like myself. I plan on going back to try their scallops and clams.

The service was excellent as well; everyone was friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome without being overbearing. Definitely a place I would recommend and return to. Great seafood, but our server completed disrespected us and our experience…read more We came to Molos for a special occasion, and what should have been a great dinner became extremely uncomfortable because of how our waitress handled her own pricing mistake. She told us the surf & turf was $95, so we asked several questions before ordering because, $95 is a significant amount. We decided to order it and have it split between two people, as well as the lobster pasta for some variety. Since I am the only one who eats lobster, the other person we were with was going to eat the ribeye, making it a perfect dish to split. We were then shocked to see $145 on the bill. When we questioned it, she admitted she had entered a larger portion by mistake. When we asked if anything could be done, instead of simply apologizing, she told us: "next time, you need to tell me you got a bigger portion." We were completely distraught. How were we supposed to know? We had never ordered the dish before and were relying on the description and price she gave us. The situation became even more upsetting when she asked about the lobster, found out it was in our takeout bag, and actually went into our takeout bag to pull it out and question whether we were going to take it home and eat it. We were so uncomfortable that we even told her she could take it back if she wanted, but completely drawing the line as she accused us of not speaking up after her mistake. We felt like we were being blamed and treated as though we had done something wrong, when the mistake was made on HER end. The manager Mike was incredibly kind and immediately corrected the bill. But it looked as if the waitress was trying her best to hide the mistake, and immediately rushed out after the manager saw how offended we felt. Unfortunately, the way we were treated completely overshadowed the meal. Mistakes happen, but making customers feel degraded over a mistake that wasn't theirs is unacceptable. We will not be returning.
