Family owned Peruvian restaurant. Authentic with modest decor inside. Everything here is so good. My favorite thing about their dishes is how GENEROUS they are with portions. One papa a la huacaina, arroz chaufa of chicken and ceviche mixed/mixto is more than enough for two people. Trust me. Love this place, order from here often, highly recommend. Plus. Came here Halloween day and they were giving out candy for kids which I deeply appreciate. Food was decent. Rice was horrible and returned swapped out for white rice and was still charged full price. The appetizer were good and fresh. But the overall experience was not a dining experience more of fast food environment. For the money its was less than worthy to choose this place. Staff was polite but that's the highlight. Second time posting a review because this time I had the privilege of actually sitting down to eat at El Eslabón. I went with a party of 6 adults and 1 baby. We each ordered different entrees which were delicious. I can't remember all the names of the different plates but so far everything we have ordered, as stated in my previous review, have been delicious. This is a BYOB place, which is great!. They provide glasses for champagne and bottle openers for beer. You will not be disappointed with this gem. 4.5 stars for excellent Peruvian food. We had been craving it for a while, and for the past year+ when we tried other restaurants we hadn't been able to find favorite dishes like causa rellena. Based on Yelp reviews, we made our way to El Eslabon, a 30 minute ride. We thought it had outdoor seating, but it didn't, so we sat far in the corner as far from others as possible for distancing. The restaurant was mostly empty on a mid-afternoon Sunday but filled up as we left. Service was friendly and efficient. No liquor license, so we only had a pitcher of chicha morada, yum. We started with a large portion of ceviche mixta, with octopus, shrimp, and fish. Good taste and quality of seafood. We also found - finally! - causa rellena. We had it with chicken, which was the best version of causa rellena I've ever had. We hadn't eaten all day and planned to bring leftovers home, so three entrees seemed right, even though the waiter noted "that's a lot of food!" The chaufa rice, with chicken and beef, was awesomely tasty. Why is Peruvian fried rice so damn good? We also had the chupe de camarones, a tasty and hearty shrimp stew with a cream base. Lots of shrimp, some potatoes, and a boiled egg, and a large portion that was perfect for a winter day. Our last entree was tallarin de saltado, fried spaghetti (green from pesto, maybe?) with a thin steak on top. Our least favorite was the tallarin, I've had it better before, so this was underwhelming. All other dishes were excellent and Peruvian food is always so good, with a unique blend of flavors and traditions. El Eslabon is humble and unfancy, with nice Peruvian themed murals. Service was friendly and food arrived quickly. If you're not in a hurry, eat a lot and then take a short, 1.5 block walk down 60th to a lovely little West New York city park with spectacular NYC skyline views. It's a perfect way to walk off a meal and NYC and the Hudson River will take your breath away. El Eslabon was worth the drive and our craving was satisfied! read more

Went to this place twice. Both times enjoyed myself. Good food. Service first day pretty good. Second time, slower service was better. The prices were good. Plates enough for two for some dishes. The mixed platter with ceviche arroz de mariscos and fried calamari was delicious. The papá rellena was good the arroz chaufa de mariscos and olluca were both very good. The chicha they make was very good and the alfajores was very good. Picarones was good. Giving em 5 stars for their entrees and their Chicha as well as the alfajor. The ambience is cool noting grand but nice enough. Parking always right on the same block. Got a few other restaurants I want to try in West New York. Enjoy this spot it definitely among the best Peruvian Restaurants in North Jersey. read more

I've been craving Peruvian food and my usual spot in Jersey City is closed on Mondays. Since I would be passing WNY on my way home I decided to google some Peruvian spots and El Eslabón popped up with a whopping 210 reviews and solid 4.5 stars on google. When I checked Yelp there wasn't nearly as many reviews but the reviews on here were just as good. Needless to say I decided to give it a try and it didn't disappoint. I called in for a take out order and ordered the pollo soltado and papa a la hauncaiana and both were delicious and a provided more then a generous amount. (Have enough for dinner tomorrow too!) Service was great. It seems like a family ran restaurant and you can tell they really value their customer's patronage. I say def check them out next time you're in the mood for some yummy Peruvian food. read more

The alfajores are really good. They come in at 3:00PM on Friday and are made by an old Peruvian man. Mad points for authenticity or great story telling. Get them while they are fresh. I really like their weekly special, you can't get a better deal. For 7 dollars you get a soup an entree and a soda. It's all really well made and nutritious stuff. Solid no frills authentic Peruvian cuisine with the loveliest owners. El Eslabon is family run and operated and the entire family works the restaurant. You will always be greeted with a warm smile or a wave (also when you leave). Do Not underestimate the very humble exterior and interior because the food packs a huge punch. We dinned here two nights in a row-that is how much we enjoyed our meal. First night, our eyes were much larger than our stomach so we ordered one too many dishes. Tonight, we narrowed down the dishes to a few highlights: Pescado Relleno con Mariscos $18 (fried fish of the day with calamari and shrimp in a light creamy sauce) and mango smoothie $3.50-choose between water or milk base. I preferred water as it had a stronger mango flavor than the milk. It's like gulping down a fresh mango-Delicious. The ceviche de pescado $13 is another standout. It tasted exactly like ones I had while in Lima. I rarely order fried fish or any creamy sauce in general but the Pescado Relleno fried fish was Excellent, wonderfully executed, and came highly recommended by the Lovely owner Juan. Both nights, the Pescado Relleno was sea bass. I was initially hesitate upon seeing the dish, however after one bite I couldn't stop. I much preferred the fried fish over the accompanying calamari and shrimp although the calamari was tender and not overcooked or chewy. Each main entree comes with a side of delicious white rice that is cooked in stock. We dinned with several guests tonight and we each ordered the Pescado Relleno for our main entree and mango smoothie. We had zero leftovers. Ask for their homemade hot sauces (red chili and green jalapeño), pairs beautifully with any dish. read more

I don't know the Peruvian names of the dishes, but basically we had fish in a tomato stew, and liver, which was nice and thin, covered with onions and herbs...so good...best liver and onions I've ever had. The food is good and I've ordered pick up a few times for lunch at the hospital or for dinner (if I don't feel like cooking) However, do NOT order delivery. I placed an order and over 2.5 hours later, no food. The second time I called, the lady said it was on the way and if I didn't want the food, I should have told her that when I called the first time (1.5 hours after I ordered). She refused to refund my almost $50 and the food never came. Finally she said she would refund me, but I never received my money back. Guess I'm never ordering from there again.
