They both wished to be cremated and have their ashes mixed together and scattered in front of Pirates Cove, which is where they shared their first kiss at the end of their first date in 1960. Unfortunately, that area is now a nude beach and it's people no one wants to see naked. Additionally, we had a pretty good sized crew of people coming for the scattering, so little zodiac boats weren't gonna get the job done. I lucked out in 2023 because the start of the fishing season got pushed into May. This allowed us to rent one of patriot charters and accommodate our entire crew for the scattering in a very safe, easy to access (we have many elderly folks with mobility issues) manner. I was concerned there may be an odor because it IS a fishing vessel, but everything was very clean and well kept. The staff were so incredibly considerate of our loss and behaved in an incredibly kind way. Instructions were simple and concise, and we were able to leave right on time, cruising the bay and playing some of Moms and dad's favorite music as we celebrated their journey. Moments after we scattered their ashes, the captain approached me quietly and slipped me a business card with the exact coordinates of where we had sprinkled mom and dad. That was going above and beyond as far as I'm concerned, and it never even dawned on me to ask for that - but I'm sure glad I have it. It is now a very tasteful, small tattoo signifying my parents final resting place. Thank you so much to patriot fishing, I know this wasn't a fishing review, but I can only imagine how good they take care of their fishing customers if this is how they treat grieving families. It was definitely hard to move around which also could've been because there was extra people on the boat that got on the wrong charter boat. I could have done without the smoking. I happen to be travelling to the central coast and decided to try a whale watch from Avila Beach Ocean Safaris. THIS WAS THE MOST INCREDIBLE WHALE WATCH I'VE HAVE EVER BEEN ON. I understand that the Vincent Shay cannot make whales appear, but he was so skilled at finding the underwater schools of fish that we were treated to the most incredible display of whales lunge feeding. For hours we were "trapped", surrounded by every kind of sea creature - gulls, cormorants, pelicans, shooty shearwaters, sea lions, dolphins but most of all humpback whales. They were arriving from every direction. the sound of the sea birds was deafening and the sound of the whales spouting and trumpeting was beyond amazing. We were late getting back because we were surrounded by whales. They were so close that the spray was getting us wet. A raft of sea lions right next to the boat, jumping and diving for the sardines below us. It was magical - I don't have the sufficient adjectives to describe it. If you are in the Paso Robles, SLO, really anywhere on the central coast, definitely give this a try.

We were there on a sad day, I found out my 55 year old sister had unexpectedly passed away earlier that morning & our server was so nice. Deep sea fishing had been a bucket list item for me, so this was special. We boarded the boat to find it clean, organized, and ready to go. Josh got all the rods rigged up on the trip from shore. While he rigged ours, he patiently answered all my questions. I'm a lake fisher so I was interested in the contrast. At our first stop, Captain Kyle announced to us the depth and set us off. The spots were hot and we were catching fish line crazy! If there was the slightest lull in bites, we moved to the next location. As fish were reeled in, the Captain and crew (I feel terrible I can't remember the name of the third crew memeber) were right there to encourage and help. Notable catches were photographed by the crew as well as shipmates. On the trip back, our fish were weighed for the pool contest (I almost won!) and then cleaned. Cost to enter the pool is 10$. The little extra cost for cleaning was sooooo with it. We had three in our party and the cost was about 45 for 30 big fish. I even kept the heads for stock. My advice is simple: dress in layers, pack sunblock, and don't over pack because food and drinks are totally reasonable. Pack an ice chest and buy ice from the Pier. Lastly, have fun! We'll definitely be back to try again.

Our reservations were cancelled, due to the boat needing repairs. This may not have been a big deal, except that after both an email and a phone call to confirm our refund, we hadn't heard from them. So we went on vacation simply trusting their system. When the money went missing from the bank account on Friday morning, we figured the repairs were finished and the tour was back on. We figured wrong. After struggling to find the slip (since we were given the wrong address for their building by the website), we were treated to an empty boat. It took another phone call - one that was actually answered this time - to find out that the boat was still having electrical issues, and thanks to a faulty server, they hadn't gotten the email. I don't know what their reason for not answering the phone message was. So we got to run around in circles because they don't know how to cancel withdrawals in a timely manner. Vacation fun for all.

When we left the shore, our 8-year-old son would have sworn he wanted to be a video game designer when he grows up. After two hours under the expert tutelage of captain Dane (Christian's son), our son now wants to become a sailor! While this was happening at the helm, Christian was keeping mommy busy - who's also a sailor-in-training in the Bay Area - rigging the sails. In the meantime, our youngest daughter had fallen asleep in her sister's arms on the bean bag chairs on the front deck. We had brought snacks and wine along, but our hosts kept us all so engaged that we never even opened the cooler. We all had a fantastic time. Thanks again gentlemen. We'll be back! :)
