The rental dock is right on the pier. It's 100 bucks for 1 hour. They give you instructions on how to drive where to go and how to pull back in. They also give you a little Bluetooth speaker for music. If you have kids they give you life jackets. The boat itself I believe fits 7-8 people. They also encourage you to bring food and just relax. The area isn't to big so I didn't think we'd use the whole 1 hour. We actually did because my boys enjoyed it so much. We all really loved that we got to see the sea otters and seals a little closer than usual. The scenery is beautiful as well. Not to many people in the mornings and the sun is as out in full affect. A great time was had. Anyone wanting to try but nervous the boat might be hard to drive it wasn't. The guy helping us compared it to driving a golf cart. Very easy to drive and the ride was smooth. It's private, so whoever wants to drive gets a quick 5-minute rundown of the rules and can ask any questions. It was a perfect 60-degree day at our appointment time. The three of us enjoyed the boat ride, and I loved just floating near the seals and listening to them. They are so funny and kept us entertained. Want to be your own Boat Captain...Bay Cruisers might just be the ticket. We have enjoyed this experience twice in the 14 years we have lived on the Central Coast and the only thing that has changed is, of course...the prices. We elected to rent a private electric boat for ourselves and after a brief "how to lesson" we're ready to launch from the dock. We brought "snacks" to eat during our adventure and enjoyed using a provided Bluetooth Stereo Speaker for our preferred music. It is always "cooler" on the water, so bring a jacket just in case. We enjoyed cruising along the docks of the Embarcadero and looking at all the boats, as well as, the business facing the water. After...we headed towards the piece of "dock" in the middle of the water channel where the seals were enjoying "sunning" themselves. During our journey we also had the chance to see several otters (close up) enjoying a meal, while floating on their backs. The allocated "hour" is just enough time to accomplish everything stated above and not feel rushed...all in all, a fabulous and enjoyable "on the water" experience. There is a Bluetooth speaker included so you can play your own music right off your phone. Bring your own snacks and drinks for the fun excursion. Surprisingly, the one hour rental is a little short if you want to see both ends of the bay. Just plan accordingly and maybe rent for longer. Had a great time with this boat! Called and booked my time slot about a month in advance (cause it was for a birthday) and when we arrived we simply filled out a little paperwork and got a quick run down of where you are allowed to cruise in the bay. We loaded up, brought a cooler with lunch (booked the boat 11am-1pm), and they provided a blue tooth stereo to listen to music if we wanted, cute touch! 2 hours ($180) is plenty of time, especially if you have to pee hahaha lots of seals and otters floating throughout the bay. They do suggest tipping as well, so keep this in mind. I will definitely do this again, next time, I'll just bring some snacks and then get fish and chips after. Camping for the weekend in Morro Bay, we decided to find a boat rental that we could cruise the harbor in. After calling a couple of boat operators, we landed on Bay Cruisers. We partly decided to go with Bay Cruisers because the cost was significantly lower. Some in Morro Bay charge a flat rate and then $10 per additional person (after the first two people). With six adults and two children we opted to go with Bay Cruisers, which charged a flat rate of $100 (plus tip, don't forget to tip). We were able to get a same day rental for that evening and everything went well. They had life jackets for our 1 and 2 year old and the boat was easy to use. We rented it for an hour and it was so nice to see all the seals and otters in the bay! Would definitely recommend and will return. read more

Spontaneous decision for my dad to rent us an electric boat and your Morro Bay. It was beautiful! We had a great time, the older man who went over safety rules and instructions was super sweet. Provided us with a Bluetooth speaker and life jackets for the kids. I won't take any stars away but I would like to mention when we initially went down to inquire information about the boat rental the younger man said, "you gotta go ask that man I'm on my day off." He's lucky we didn't turn around and walk away due to his snarky attitude. Then has the decency to tell us all about the business he's opening up down the road for water sport equipment. As Yelp Elite (Basically that means I'm a verified real person with a long history of writing fair and honest reviews) I enjoy writing glowing reviews for companies that provide great experiences with fantastic service. However, part of the deal is to also call out malfeasance and terrible service. Bay Cruisers, this is your review.. This review is for the Duffy Electric Boat rental located in Morro Bay. Booking the boat was pretty easy, simply walk down to their dock locker which is where Nicholas "Nick" T ( CEO of this Electric Boat rental company) will process your paperwork and give you a reservation time. So far, so good. We arrived precisely on time as did another group. Not the most organized process, in fact Nick was scrambling trying to get two groups processed, instructed, and pushed off the dock at the same time. - Not going to review any part of the actual boat trip, sorry... We knew something was up when we pulled back into the dock ( on a windy day with the tide going out ) and came in too short, so we had to make a second attempt. I'm not sure if this second docking attempt was what set Nick off, or perhaps it just another annoyance in a bad day for him which caused him to snap. He was kind-of-a-jerk, which actually was a little laughable because I write so many reviews and it's rare that a staffer ( let alone a CEO) acts like a child with snide comments. He did seem to be agitated before we even left on our boat trip tho. We disembarked and went to the locker to square up the billing. It was at this time that CEO Nick stormed up the dock, loudly asking what we did with the boat stereo cover. This wasn't just more snarky comments this was him being confrontational. I was stunned, and at first I was apologetic for not knowing what he was even talking about. But to get to the bottom of this I walked back to the boat and looked through our bags just to make sure that one of the kids didn't accidentally pack-away this "stereo cover" by mistake. He kept saying "I take the cover off the stereo and place it on the table before every trip, every day. I put the cover on this table right here" He said it several times with his tone getting louder each time. It was at this time I realized I wasn't just dealing with a jerk, this was different, and escalating to a place that was completely unprofessional. I didn't know if he was shaking me down to pay for this missing cover or what. In any case I told him I was very sorry that his cover was lost but we never saw it and we didn't have it. I tried to calmly explain this all to Nick but at this point he was in a "very agitated state", the last words he said to me was "Well it just didn't walk away all by itself now did it!". Obviously, Nick's actions were outrageous and unprofessional. Worse, I apologized for his loss and I even tipped him. But I was left with a seed of doubt that maybe one of my younger kids found this "valuable cover" on the table and tossed it overboard.. BUT EVERYTHING CHANGED when I looked at the pictures of our boat trip. Without a shadow of a doubt I have pictures proving that before we entered the boat there was no cover on the stereo and no cover on the table. Same when we first entered the boat and Nick left the boat, and also on the actual trip. Nick is so full of SHIT. Clearly he doesn't inspect the boat as he claims, the proof are in my pictures, and not surprising, when looking at other boater's pictures on social media you can see many don't have a stereo cover on the radio or on the table. Again, blatant lies. Horrible insinuations made in front of my family. In the end, Bay Cruisers ended up being a terrible experience. This could have been amazing, but I cannot recommended Bay Cruisers to anyone as long as Nick is working the dock. Nick needs to hire someone with a customer-focused background. Also, for shit and giggles I looked up prices for boat stereo covers and they're less than 15 bucks at Walmart. Clearly this behaviour had little to do with a cheap cover. Bad day or not, no reputable ceo treats customers this way. Tips for potential customers - Still not sure if this was a scam that he runs on tourists to get extra cash, or if there's something else going on with him. - ALWAYS take pictures of the boat before you enter it and before you disembark. The boat experience on the water itself is 5/5 stars. Great to see the otters and sea lions, good view, and space on the boat was great. However, I'm only giving this place 1/5 stars because there was an older gentleman who works here that is just in a bad mood. First, we got to the dock on time at 12:00 pm for our 12:00 pm reservation but the younger person who checked us in said we can use the bathroom and come back since the older gentleman who normally does the check-in process is helping another customer. So by the time we signed all our waivers, used the restroom, and got our mini "lesson" on where we can drive the boat in Morro Bay from the younger gentleman it was around 12:15 pm. Then, the older gentleman came back and walked over to us to the boats but as he was doing so he began speaking poorly with this younger coworker who had been helping us, and the younger coworker is technically part of the kayak rental side only and not the duffy boat side. We heard the entire conversation in front of us as customers and just ended up feeling really bad for this younger guy. At least the younger gentleman had the decency to apologize to us later that we had to see that, but no acknowledgement from the older man at all. Now, the older man proceeds to show us where our life vests were, helped us get into the boat, taught us how to steer the boat, etc. By the time we were situated and started pulling out of the dock, it was 12:24 pm. Mind you, our reservation was at 12 pm but there was definitely no one else behind us renting these boats so even though we started a bit later than our original reservation time, and it wasn't like we were told this would be an issue that we started 24 min late. We only had a 1 hr reservation but had some trouble parking the boat alongside the dock in a way where the older gentleman could grab the rope to reel us back in, so it did take us some time to get docked, but we were definitely at the dock area trying to park the boat within our 1 hour time limit with the older gentleman guiding us the entire time. Like I mentioned, it can be difficult to park the boat and navigate the current if you're not driving boats for a living so it did take us time to get docked, so by the time we docked and got everyone off the boat it was 12:35 pm. I could tell the older gentleman was already upset as soon as we stepped out of the boat as he made absolutely no effort to hide it on his facial expression. We all began walking back to the checkout window and paid for the reservation. As he was logging into the iPad, he said what time was your reservation? I said it was at 12:00 pm. Then, he made a snarky comment with attitude in his voice saying, you know its 12:35 pm now right? We replied, well you know we started late right? We didn't start until 12:24. And he said, well I'm not trying to argue with you but we normally charge. So we said, well we were told by your colleague that you weren't available yet so we we had time to use the bathroom and come back so we did just that. And you saw that we had trouble parking the boat alongside the dock but we were at the dock location within the 1 hour mark. Like really? If you were actually around in the beginning, you would have known we started late, and if you hadn't noticed, we had issues parking the boat because of the current which you were watching us the entire time struggle with. I really enjoyed the boat, but the customer service from this older gentleman is just not great. I would skip out if I were you. read more

Don't use this company!! The guy manning the booth, Nick, was rude and honestly just lazy. We wanted to rent a duffy boat from him. First of all - he just wasn't manning the booth, in the middle of the day at like 1. Maybe he was at lunch, but he left a note with a phone number to call. We called, he was not friendly on the phone. Said to come back in like 30 minutes. We did. He wouldn't take down the plastic on the boat so that it would be open air because he "didn't have anywhere to put it" even though he was in a practically empty 500 square foot room. There was one boat with the plastic already down, but he claimed it couldn't go out. Not sure why, but I suspect it was because there was a boat in front of it that he would have to move. He just gave us a bad attitude, so we changed our minds about continuing with the process. We decided to leave so my husband took the form that he had halfway filled out with his personal information, and Nick claimed that he needed him to hand in the incomplete form. What?!! read more

I first want to say that I love the electric boats! I take all my family on them everytime they are in town. I love the fact when I take them out I can drive myself and it just be my family and I. You're able to bring food and drink (including alcohol) on board and you basically get to see the entire bay in the hour. My family absolutely loves it. I had such a great time this last time that I wanted to leave a review about my experiences with these boats. They are well kept, clean and the trip is always beautiful. I almost always deal with Nick when I go since he practically lives there he works so much and it's always been good. Therefore once I got to this yelp page and read the reviews I was surprised but then laughed a bit. Nick The poor guy has deal with the most ridiculous things. On one trip I've seen someone literally climb on the roof of one of these and bend it completely. I'v seen people yell at him for the things they broke and also completely ground the boat and completely break it. I figured I'd help the man out and share what I'v been on these boats here is what I'v learned about Bay Cruisers over the years. 1. I would imagine 1 guy running 6 boats by himself would be stressful. People tend to show up early and late and expect to be taken care of right away (I'v been guilty of this more than once) he has always been very accommodating and just handles it. Also think He is also letting someone who has little to no experience driving boats with basically his livelihood. You break a boat he is out of a lot of money. I would imagine I'd be pretty cranky at times as well. 2. He has a boat he calls "open air" it is the one without windows. All the other boats have windows(the plastic the other people wanted to take off) those windows are bolted to the boats they do not come off. If you call in advance You can request this boat and he will ensure you get it. 3. The currant in the Bay is extremely strong and those boats are essentially lake boats. The battery in them only lasts a little over an hour after the first trip of the day. So after every trip they have to be plugged in (you will see nick run behind you to do so as soon as you step of the boat). This is when he also inspects it Once a boat comes back to ensure nothing was damaged or stolen after EVERY trip he has the same routine After a boat comes in it cannot go out for at least an hour otherwise the boat will die on you. I'v noticed a system on how he rotates the boats by which ones are charging and which ones can go out. 4. He is most definitely NOT running a scam. The big deal about the radio cover isn't because he has to replace it, it's because the ocean air destroys the stereo and if left Uncovered for to long it will have to be replaced as well. $15 turns into $200 real fast. Honestly I'm disappointed in the 2 "elite" reviewers on here. Makes you wonder how often people write bad reviews just because they didn't get there way. Boat ride is an easy and enjoyable family outing for those w/ little ones. If you have an hour, you'll be able to go up and down the channel/harbor area 1 full sweep with chance to see sea lions, otters, and bird life up close. Service by owner Nick leaves a lot to be desired. We tried renting one day w/ him gruffly telling us he was closed and barely taking any notice or time to wait for us to consider making a reservation for following day. We returned only because w/ little ones, promises are promises. We met in person the following day to line up a boat. It opened later than hours posted. My wife tried to clarify boat options and immediately he pushed back hard and gruffly. I stepped in and took some time to clarify boat options, availability, etc. Turns out he had 2 other boats, absent panels that were available. It felt like pulling teeth to get the info out of him. He disclosed very little info that was customer service facing; just too lots of asking questions to understand options and eventually find out, yes, there were in fact boats w/out panels available. Interestingly, he did give us a small discount for the day prior when he was unavailable, had rented out other boats. (We didn't ask for one btw). Any rate, eventually we had a boat reserved and took our tour shortly thereafter. Fine. I would add, Nick did not wear a mask despite COVID protocols. And his entire demeanor was fairly gruff, impersonal and had sense of laziness. He also briefly mentioned at one point he felt sick the day prior; I wish I had processed what that actually meant in a COVID world because reflecting back on that + absence of his mask wearing and I should have decided against the rental. Are the boats fun? Sure, the kids enjoyed. But consider a sea kayak instead. read more

We went on this boat. The people in front of us tried 2 boats were not properly working and were finally out on one that started working. When we went out our boat was very slow... slower than the others. At one point the power cut out and we had no choice but to drift until we hit a random dock. We called the phone number twice and no one answered while we were in a crisis. Two of us had to get off and run over to the place to let the guy know. They did not have any urgency to help up and had to wait for someone to come back since none of their boats are working. When he finally got into a boat he went over to our stranded boat barely tied his line to ours and then the line fell into the water. we were now drifting further (hitting boats), while he was going in circles also hitting boats. He told us that he thought the throttle was backwards (it was not he just did not know how to operate the boat). We have a very long video of him having no idea what to do as we continued to drift out and hit more boats. When they finally got us back they had no idea where to put the boats or how to get them in. There's people in front of us who were waiting for a refund because they were over charged. I do not recommend this place unless you want to get stranded and over charged. read more

Took my wife and 2 year old here, good scenery and you get to get up close to the sea lions and otters. The cruise offers beverages for you to buy and drink. The guide is humorous and informative so over all the cruise is great. But any time you have a two year old who is full of energy it can be inconvenient.
