If your going out on a charter boat pick any one else other than "Starfire" unless you don't have a choice. The captain was great but the deck hands all seemed to have an attitude. One deck hand named "Josh" cussed at a customer and we heard another one cuss at a customer. Poor communication when it came to cleaning fish. Most of us were asking each other what was going on. The passengers around us were not happy with how the boat was being run. We all decided this would be our last trip this boat. I will say that the boat limited out but be prepared for fishing 400' depths (arms my get cramps reeling in) read more

So if you're a beginner be ready to be made to feel like an idiot because you don't make $16 bucks an hour hauling fish in for a living. Everyone else was awesome. read more

Last Friday my brother in-law and I went fishing on the Spirit. We had such a great time. Even though we had smoked field clouds, the Captain kept trying different areas to put us on top of the fish. Took our two grandsons (11 and 8) for a half day of fishing on Morro Bay. What an experience! The boat (Avenger) was big and not crowded, we had one whole side of the boat for the four of us. The crew was awesome and helped with the poles and bait and pulling in all the fish. We caught over 20 big beautiful rockfish. The onboard crew cleaned and cut all the fish so we could bring it home to eat and freeze. This was such a wonderful trip for all of us and the kiddos were free with each paying adult. Poles and tackle were only $25 each and good quality. Highly recommend this trip for families. Thank you crew of Avenger - you made this such a special day with the grandkids. read more

Ok first time in Over 30 years going deep sea fishing and I had a blast. The waves were crazy, people were getting sea sick, and everyone was soaking wet, but through it all I was catching rock cod like there was no tomorrow. The captain did a great job navigating the boat through rough seas and the crew worked wildly to make sure everyone was getting help with their fish and man were the fish biting. I limited out within the first hour and then helped everyone else limt out also. The entire operation was run brilliantly and everyone on board had a great time. read more

We went out on the Avenger boat and our experience was as great as it could be. Check in and getting rental equipment was a breeze, especially since we got there about an hour before our 7am start time. The ride out to the fishing location was a bit choppy and made a few of us nauseous, but that's not anything that can be blamed on the fishing charter themselves. We were a group of 8 and 3 of us ended up vomiting (with slightly choppy waters, lots of drinking the night prior, and only a couple hours of sleep...it was bound to happen to at least 1 of the 8 guys we had on the trip). Once we finally got to a spot we dropped our lines and a few of us almost immediately caught some fish. The captain moved the boat around several times to ensure we were fishing in locations with plenty of fish. This was one of my friends first time fishing and he ended up catching the 2nd biggest fish of the trip. Toward the end there was a spot we found where there were tons of fish near the surface. It was practically like shooting fish in a barrel. You drop your line in and probably 5 seconds later you've hooked a fish. Don't experience that very often. The crew themselves were great and very helpful, especially Megan. We told her we had some first timers and she made sure to hang around us a bit more to help us out. We ended up making some fish and chips and also baked the fish with a cajun rub and lemon zest. It was good stuff, and knowing that it was fresh fish we caught earlier that day made it all the better and more delicious. Overall we had a great time and not a single bad experience with this fishing charter. I would book with them again if I ever come back out to Morro Bay! read more

We booked the 1/2 day today on the Avenger with Capt Brad and the deckhand Bailey a 25 ish year old something skinny girl who was as strong as an ox and an experienced fisherwoman! First wonderful day. We caught our limit of Rock Fish and had fun doing it. They gave all on the boat lessons, were very attentive and made sure if we needed help we got it. They hovered the boat over large schools of fish and all 25 on board caught and were exhausted at the end of the day. John in the office allows me to freeze our catch and pick up the next day in one of his freezers. That made it for me too as we have no freezer in our hotel in Cambria. Best California fishing experience ever. We highly recommend using this them for a great experience and attention to detail. read more

Took the 1/2 day fishing trip on Endeavor last week. About 18 on board. Limited out and back in port by noon. Tons of small rockfish. Kept pulling up 2 at a time on the rented poles and tackle. Rough water and a lot of wind but moved out to deeper water and the Captain kept us on the vermillion rockfish. Crew masterfully filleted the catch and we went home with more worth of fish than we paid for the whole trip. read more

Literally the crew on the STARFIRE was tossing cigarettes into the ocean and allowing guests to do so as well. The crew was also drinking all day and getting drunk,, and they only cared about making sure the people they knew (friends of the crew and boat owner) had a good time. They don't care about first time guests who are trying to have a "trip of a lifetime as my dad called it". Unlessyou are the owner or you "show up at midnight" you will literally be forced to the front of the boat where you can't stand up. We are here in honor of my brother who was murdered a few weeks ago. In shirts and everything. My dad always dreamed of doing this with him. And now, because "we aren't the owner of the boat and we didn't check in at midnight " (when they said the earliest check in was 5am.) My dad is stuck at the front sick and unable to stand. The staff literallyforced us to move up there after we had our poles settled and sat waiting in the back the whole two hour ride. Its obnoxious. We paid a lot of money for this bullshit Literally the worst experience we could have had and we spent hundreds of dollars on it. And to think that morro bay has a fishing company who cares so little about polluting the ocean they make money off of. read more

A negative one the problem that we have four of us was going to the boat trip three of us were only able to go my brother-in-law my father-in-law and my son and me the problem is I could not go because of medical condition that someone in my family has so I had to stay home didn't find out about the medical condition until less than 24 hours before the trip their policy is 48 hours before the trip unfortunately it was covid related and I didn't want to go because I didn't want to infect the relatives or anybody on the boat so I'm quarantined even though it's covid related they don't give a crap about it they just want to keep your money they didn't take anything into consideration at all they just said you're out of luck we got your hundred bucks boohoo we don't care now what kind of customer service is that the young lady that I talk to told her I told her the situation and she seems like she didn't care she wanted me to leave a message with the owner when she knew damn well that he wasn't going to be there today and he probably would not call me back I even told her that I was going to yelp them but she said oh well go ahead we don't care they did catch a few fish .this day and age they need to change a policy but yeah I could have been real irresponsible and went on the trip but no I didn't I wouldn't recommend this fishing company whatsoever they just straight out suck they just don't have a clue...... Part 2 they called my bro in law after I called and put this on Yelp and said they didn't want to refund the money because I put everything on Yelp and gave a one star really it's a shame someone has to put u on blast online before u want to do something for a customer I called they said no he called and they said no so wow lol well enjoy my 100 buck karma is a something else lol read more

I went on my first sport fishing charter in ages with a fantastic group of friends on a full day ride aboard the Starfire. Cpt. Sal and the entire crew are legends in my book. There were pretty big 8ft swells that day but he navigated us safely through the whole day. Given the conditions he gave us the best possible travel to and from our target areas. We all got our limits of some really prime quality red rockfish but more importantly we all had a great experience and a ton of fun . The service was phenomenal, the crew seemed to blend into the group and were on the spot when anyone needed help. Tangled lines were knocked out in seconds, assists with rigging up, suggestions for proper weight to drop in heavy swells, unhooking, bagging, gaffing big fish, all with done gusto and great attitudes. Here's the kicker for me... Despite taking meds to prevent motion sickness, the ocean won this round and I was the weirdest shade of green for 3/4 of the trip. Everyone from the Captain and every single crewman checked in on how I was doing throughout the day. They kept me hydrated, gave encouragement, even set me up with a borrowed rod/reel (my personal set up didn't have enough line, rookie mistake). Despite my vertigo I got a full limit and caught my very first ever BIG LINGCOD on the very first cast. I would 100% do it all over again even getting sick was worth it when you get to meet an awesome crew and bag your limit of big fish. read more

I went on the 3/4 day trip on the Starfire with my friend and had a ton of fun! Unfortunately, my friend was extremely sea sick despite taking medication. The crew was very kind and understanding and continued to check in on her. Dillon, one of deck hands, helped me throughout the trip with rigging my line, snag, and fishing pole issues . There's also Mike who makes a killer breakfast burrito. Mike is also a funny and caring guy. He checked in to make sure I was having fun and catching fish!!!! Everyone on our boat caught our limits of rock cod with time to spare! I'm definitely going to be booking trips in the future and I'll be bringing my family. :) Thank you to the Starfire crew! I got to say for my first experience I was not blown away. Maybe it's because I did a half day 7am-1pm, but we all pay a good price to be put on the fish (at least that's how I see this business being ran). I Went with a group of 10 or so and Noone seemed too thrilled about the whole experience. Did more throwing fish back then keeping them. Like I said first experience and wasn't too thrilled. My dad has been fishing with this company for many years, and they've never let us down. Today we had numerous first timers, a few kids, and someone who is chronically(fatally) ill with us - on a packed boat. The entire crew was SO good to us. They were on top of every little snag or tangle, and we never once waited more than a few minutes while needing help. We went on the Avenger on Dec 30th, 2017, half day trip. Everyone caught their limit, mostly in bass but some cod and some reds as well. The memories made will last a life time. I'm incredibly grateful to the company and crew for making this such a wonderful trip. Can't wait for next season! read more

We saw the beautiful water filled with otters between Morro Bay and the sandspit and decided to go kayaking on a whim. We found Morro Bay Landing and quickly (within 15min of walking in we were on the water) and easily rented a 2 person kayak from these guys at a great price, no wait! They are located between the otters and the sea lions, easy entry and exit. We are not avid kayakers but the staff made it hassle free to get out on the water. They also only charged us for an hour when we were out out there for a bit longer than that. Love these guys. We will make this a mandatory stop on our next trip back. read more

It was February 2021 and I booked my fishing trip with my fellow companions. We looked forward to the trip for months and visions of the avenger vessel and groupers danced in our minds. We left the night before in a pack of four and camped in a van shore side. We woke up early morning to grab breakfast and headed way to morro bay landing. Upon arrival we checked in and rented our rods and patiently waited to board the vessel. Not all were kind because upon boarding the vessel fellow fishermen were very accommodating, they told us off as we tried to stow away our rods on starboard side. I realize this is not at the fault of the fishing company, however notable. We set for what seemed to be 45 minutes before ever dropping a line. Upon arrival to the first location the captain told us there was fish either at the bottom or very high up. It was quite difficult to keep my line straight up and down as the captain could not keep the boat stable and this led to my line as well as my companions line to become entrapped with our fellow fisherman on the starboard side of the vessel. Often times they would start reeling in and yanking until point of breaking our lines. This set me off, I wasted two weights because some a**hole kept breaking my line off. Also one of my companions caught a king salmon which he was not allowed to keep for undisclosed reasons. On top of all of this we did not stay at a spot for more than 10 minutes even if the fishing was good and those who did catch fish were left disappointed by sorry excuses for a cod. Overall I do not recommend fishing in morro bay, it is overfished and the people who go here are amateurs who spend more time in the galley drinking than they do fishing. The only positive note is the deckhands were delightful, particularly Megan. read more
