I'm in a wedding out of state this summer and the groom is working with a local, family-run suit store that has a measurement form on their website. I wasn't able to get full measurements at two local big box stores (it's been awhile, maybe this is a thing now?) so I decided to seek out a smaller business. I called Old Country Tailor and they picked up after the second ring. I explained the situation and asked if I could come by on my way home in half an hour. They said I could arrive any time and it should only take a couple minutes. There were three customers in the store and I waited only a minute - just long enough to get a glimpse of employees working behind the register among stacks upon stacks of cloth. Seems like they have plenty of work to go around. I was recognized by voice and we started on what I called about. I pulled up the measurement form on my phone, got all my numbers filled out, and was treated like an old friend. When I asked "how much do I owe you?" she refused payment and said "nothing, that wasn't enough work to charge you!" I was having a moderately garbage week at that point and it made me remember there are still good people out there! That being said, I'll definitely go back for more substantial needs in the future.

These ladies are passionate and confident in their work. I was especially surprised at the low cost of my wedding dress alterations considering the amount of time we spent on it because it is such a delicate material that took a lot of time to perfect. They always worked with my requests and took the time to make the dress fit me just right even when it would cost them more hours redoing the piece. I am super excited to walk down the aisle and even had a friend who came to my dress fittings bring her own wedding dress in for alterations. I know if I went to a tailor that only does wedding dresses I would have been charged twice the amount of money and probably would have been told no at the difficulty of some of the issues. The photos I included are not of the final product, but it shows the difficulty of this dress yet how well it fits my body. Old Country Tailor took care of me and went above and beyond.

After multiple attempts at communicating with those preferred vendors, there was 1 viable choice, but it was overpriced for what I needed and she ended up leaving me hanging on appointment availability anyway. Once that happened I took it upon myself to go on Yelp and find alternative solutions. Out of the next 2-3 choices I ventured out to, Nadia was the one I opted for because she was straight forward and was the only one who offered me 2 different bustle options - American (over) bustle or ballroom (under bustle). As a bonus, she was also 1/3 of the price of the wedding dress boutique's preferred vendor! Communications were all through Yelp messaging - clear cut for scheduling. Make sure for your fittings you always bring the shoes you'll be wearing for an accurate hem, etc. I opted for the ballroom bustle and Nadia numbered the attachments. During a subsequent fitting I had the MOB and MOH accompany me so they knew what to expect for doing the bustle on the day of the wedding. Forms of payment accepted are cash, card, and money sharing apps - I opted for Zelle.

Before coming in, I called to make sure they had experience sewing patches on a military uniform…read more They said yes, that they did it all the time. My husband brought in his uniform, patches, and printed out the specific instructions for them to use. I go to pick his uniforms up a few days later and my husband tells me that it's been done wrong. They sewed his name patch ON the pocket flap when the instructions specified that it belongs ABOVE the pocket flap. No branch of the military has the name patch sewn on the actual flap which led me to believe that they in fact did not have experience with military uniforms. They also cut the name patch incorrectly so it's no longer usable. We had to order new ones which cost $20, and they were back ordered. Great. We ended up getting a partial refund from the business, but were not reimbursed for the name patches. I'm sure this business does well with dresses and suits, but I'd probably go somewhere else for military uniforms, especially when you brought in a physical copy of instructions on where the patches go, that they didn't even look at.
