I went to Morten's to celebrate my 65th birthday, which is Monday. For some reason, I've never been to Morten's, but I was determined to try it and do some "fine dining" for this milestone birthday. The restaurant was lovely, with a nice patio. To my surprise, the menu featured a crab cake burger with sweet potato fries. I really wanted to try the schnitzel, which sounded delicious, but the burger was calling my name. It didn't disappoint. It was moist and flavorful. The bun had a very slight crispness to it that was just so appealing. Paired with the homecut sweet potato fries, I had a real birthday treat for my dinner. I have to also mention my baba ganoush appetizer was fabulous as well. And to top it off, my server, Janie, was a delight. She even brought me a birthday surprise! Morten's has become my new favorite restaurant. I'll definitely make it a regular stop on my restaurant itinerary. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would! Morton's in Old Town in Columbus Ga is the definition of unprofessional. The owner was drinking on the job, behaving rudely, and instead of taking responsibility for food that wasn't cooked correctly, he insulted the customer and told her to "take your steak home and cook it yourself." That is appalling behavior from anyone, let alone the owner of an establishment. Dining out should be about hospitality and respect -- this place delivered neither. It's just as embarrassing to write this as it was to witness it firsthand. Yesterday was my first time visiting Morton's at Old Town in Columbus, GA. The owner and chef, Mr. Morton, initially seemed helpful, assisting me and my guest with the menu. I was the last in my party to place an order. Unfortunately, when my meal arrived, it was completely wrong. I notified the waiter, who then informed Mr. Morton. At that time, he had been drinking at the bar, touching surfaces, and even handling food with his bare hands. He came to the table and offered to "re-cook" the meat, but I declined, explaining that I cannot tolerate the sight of blood. His response shocked me--he said, "I'm still going to charge you either way. If you don't want me to recook it, take it home and cook it yourself." He then walked away and returned to drinking at the bar. Not wanting to make a scene, I approached him privately and respectfully explained that I was not refusing to pay, but that the order was incorrect and I truly couldn't handle food served rare. Instead of listening, he accused me of lying, saying, "My waitress said that's what you ordered, and she doesn't lie, so you're lying." This was said loudly, in front of my dinner party and other patrons. I calmly explained, "Sir, I am a veteran. I've seen my share of blood, and as a therapist, I am very intentional and precise with my words." His response was to dismiss me further, saying, "I tell you what--get out of here and don't ever come back." My dinner party and others looked on in shock. When he noticed that I had tears in my eyes, he whispered, "Go back to your dinner party. I was wrong, I apologize." Still, the damage was done. One bartender apologized quietly, adding, "At least you look pretty." But that did little to ease how humiliated I felt. In that moment, I even told Mr. Morton directly, "You hurt my feelings," but he simply took another sip of his drink. I left feeling beyond embarrassed--hurt, disrespected, and utterly disappointed. read more

The service was very slow and unattended. The food was underwhelming. You would think with a limited menu. Everything would be on Point, but this was not the case. I had to send back two dishes, one being cold and the other just tasting terrible. I had the tomato tart, which wasn't what I expected. It was actually very tart tasting and it was cold and it was supposed to be served hot. I then ordered the tempura asparagus with mushrooms. Asparagus was OK. The mushrooms were cold, which was a little offputting, although the waitress which rarely came to our table told me that the mushrooms are supposed to be cold. Very strange dish. I would not eat here again my husband got the fish special, which was very small portion and just OK. We ordered the specials: Blackened Halibut with cotija cheese grits and lemon caper sauce, and the Chateaubriand with rosemary mashed potatoes and green peppercorn sauce. For an app, we had the seared pork belly with apple compote and apple cider glaze. For dessert a fruit-topped crème brûlée. Everything tasted wonderful. We have never found Morton's to be consistent, in food quality or service. We have had good food and we have had not very good food. Same for the service. Food: have had room temp soup served. We've had our wait person describe a side that comes with a special only to be served a totally different side- then be told they were out of the regular side (substituted without asking what we may like to have in its place) It is a nice looking place, with outdoor seating options, but just "ok" for food and service. read more

I'm going to start out by saying that the amount of money my husband and I paid for our food/service last night was definitely not worth $200.00. Upon walking in the hostess asked if we had a reservation and I didn't realize we had to make one, my mistake, but were able to seat ourselves rather quickly. If I am paying that much for food, which is suppose to be a higher end restaurant you should give the hostess more of a job than just pointing people to their seats because she had enough time on her hands to be sitting there snapping 'selfies'. Very unprofessional. The First Gentlemen who came to our table was grand. Although he did warn us he wouldn't be our server, which was disappointing, because our waitress lacked any social skills - which later reflected in her tip. Anytime we asked her something she seemed bothered that we didn't know something - being our first time, or if we asked her to repeat something because it was rather loud in there, she seemed annoyed. She literally only spoke to us when she needed to - which was to tell us the specials. Aside from that, us being there seemed to inconvenience her. The food was meh. I don't know if it was the chef or owner walking around speaking to everyone but if it was the chef - his priorities are lacking. The food was bland. The swordfish was dry and not worth the money we paid. My husbands steak was good, but even the small plate we ordered lacked flavor. For the amount we paid, we just ate it. Heaven forbid I ask the waitress to do more than she needed to because her annoyance with us already was enough to get our desserts to go. I definitely won't be returning. I happen to agree with another review that unless you look a certain way - you're not wanted. Too bad people judge others on appearance because not everyone with money drives a Porsche and carries around Louis Vuitton. I wish you the best of luck on your restaurant. read more

Went to Morten's on a Friday for a group celebration with seven people. Because of our party size and late reservation request, we could only get in at 5:30. We had some difficulty with the menu as my son is very finicky and would never try something new. He eventually agreed to have the appetizer empanadas as a meal. I had the filet mignon, which was superior. Others had the watermelon salad, hummus, blackened redfish and prawns. No complaints from anyone. Our waiter was an older gentleman who was very helpful, patient and attentive. At our request, he took our family picture for us at the table. Service was spot on. We didn't order any dessert, but temptation was very high. I recommend Morten's for any special occasions to make them more memorable. read more

For the price tag it misses the mark. We went with a group of 5 for dinner. The server was young and nice, but not particularly knowledgeable. When I asked if the seafood linguine could be made without the clams she said "I don't think so" (but again - at this restaurants price tag the pasta should be made fresh and therefor customizable for an allergy). When she took our orders she asked if we wanted a soup or a salad, and the way she said it made it sound like it came with the meal. It did not - which is what it is but don't phrase it like it's part of the meal. She then forgot one of the soups which weren't good enough to ask for again. Meals I tasted were: Shrimp bisque: good, but not memorable Curried vegetable soup: it was kind of gritty in texture and the curry flavors didn't come through at all Daily special lamb: the lamb was cooked perfectly but was coated in far too much mustard. I had to drench it in the sauce to cover the overpowering mustard flavor. It also came with a risotto which was good and a side of corn, peppers, and kalamata olives which had no business being there. The olives were the last thing I'd put on that dish. My husband got the grouper which he liked a lot more than the lamb Rum Dmc cocktail: very overpowering absinthe. The cocktail was better when stirred but it wasn't great. Gin cocktail (don't remember the name) was very good. Overall, if this place was about $50 cheaper I'd let most of this go but for $160 for 2 people (split checks with the other couples) I expect to be raving. read more

Went here to celebrate an anniversary and it turned out to be an excellent choice. Our waitress was Whitney and she was superb - funny, cordial, accommodating and efficient. We started with Manhattans on the rocks and they were well prepared. Had a special boba ghanoush as appetizer that was outstanding. Split a house salad that was very nice. Homemade breads, sour dough and walnut, went well with an infused EVOO. My filet mignon was perfectly prepared and the golden beet purée and sautéed veggies complimented it well. A glass of Seghesio Zinfandel put it over the top. Her shrimp and grits looked great and were very flavorful. Hey, it was an anniversary so he had to have dessert. Finished off with key lime and mango dessert. Drinks were great. Except the sweet tea wasn't Georgia sweet tea. Improvements: while dining we noticed a young woman standing at the counter where prepared food was being placed. The servers would pick up food from this counter and deliver it to customers. We noticed this woman had long hair (loose). We noticed her touch many items (pen, ticket, hair, dress, etc) AND touch food items including garnishes. We did not see her wash her hands but did notice her run her hands through her hair several times. She also reached over mutiple food plates. This was off-putting to say the least. read more

The menu is very creative as are the cocktails. The food was ok and the table service very good. My husband had the tuna bowl which he loved and said he would order again. I had the surf and turf special, the filet was cooked to a perfect medium rare and the shrimp were plump and juicy. Unfortunately the risotto and sauce were far too rich for me. For dessert my husband enjoyed the bread pudding and I had the lemon pound cake with blackberry sauce. The pound cake was cold and very dense - almost dry and there wasn't enough sauce to fix it. On a side note, we arrived at 5:25pm, opening was at 5:30pm. We milled around outside in the 90 degree heat and humidity while the staff sat around inside waiting for the clock to strike 5:30 on the dot. My brother and I took our mother here for mothers day dinner last weekend and it definitely was the right choice! Morten's has phenomenal service but an even better atmosphere for an outdoor dinner. The dinner courses were delicious. Cudo's to the kitchen. However, everything else is terrible. We were seated late and although we reserved a proper table they put us at a high top in the bar area. The bartenders were also our waiters, which is terrible for them because they are already serving the entire restaurant. Anyway, when ready to leave we ordered two deserts to go and wanted the check. Waiter came back and said they were out of one of the deserts. Ok....so we will just have the one then. Ok. He comes back and it's the complete wrong desert. Ok. He takes it back and adjusts our bill. Hands me the new bill and takes my card. I had to chase him down because while he added the correct desert he also left the wrong one on there. Had to beat him to the register so I didn't pay for something we didn't order. Finally a lady brings the correct desert tightly tied up in a plastic bag. We pay and leave. Once we get home we discover they just took right desert and threw it in the same container with the wrong one. Everything all mixed up from two completely different dishes. The fact they it was tied up so we wouldn't know until after we left after messing up our order three times is just disrespectful. The customer service folks at this place do not care about you at all. The whole vibe in there was just fake and rude. I do not recommend. 2 stars only because the kitchen did their job super well. read more
