I love the roast beef aus juice AND the taco rider sandwiches. They are famous for the Camel Rider, not my fav, but Daddy and lots of other folks enjoy this. I've been going since it opened in 1975 or 76 I think. It was close to AFLAC till I graduated high school in 1982. It moved shortly thereafter to where it is now on Mercury Drive. A Columbus tradition that is very good. Chips & cheese is great as well. read more

They are letting this place go downhill. The service was great. Fast and attentive (although our order was pretty straight forward since we knew what we wanted the moment we sat down). The game room sucked up $2 without any play to go along with it. After the first dollar got reimbursed by the bartender, I decided to accept defeat and realize my second dollar was a sign to stop. My sandwich had half the meat quantity it usually has. I had WAY more bread than meat. Same price (if not more). So yeah that was disappointing for sure. Been coming here for 30 years. read more

I'm giving four stars because I know this a local staple for Columbus natives. This is truly a no frills basic family restaurant that has been around for years. I know they are known for a few dishes and they get extremely busy on the weekends with a wait for seating. We had the chips and cheese as well as a Philly cheesesteak. Chips and cheese were okay and the Philly was good, but I have loved a good cheesesteak at other restaurants in town more. Overall, this is a cute place to visit. This is a longtime Columbus staple. It is sandwiches and pizza and burgers. I went on a busy weekend and they got us in pretty quickly given the amount of people waiting. The restaurant could use some updates because it does scream late 90s. There's an arcade area for kids. The tables are also packed in pretty tight. It's a family restaurant so don't expect fancy but the prices are good as is the food so give it a try if you havent. read more

Speakeasy's menu ranged from American, to Italian, and finally some Mexican. Interesting... Ranchos: The "spicy" taco meat was def doable. The cheese they used wasn't cheddar but a milder form. From the description, it was CCQ (chile con queso) so it's not the hard cheddar version. They definitely don't hold back on the cheese either. There was a heaping portion that's good for sharing. Camel rider: As it's the house specialty and a Columbus tradition since 1976, we gave it a try. It was most certainly interesting. The pita pocket was just a tad different, but it tasted like a (ham and salami) wrap with their homemade Italian dressing dripping thru the opening as you eat it. The scoop of potato salad as the side was so so. Mediterranean pizza: This looked super crispy; however, it was anything but. There wasn't much flavor going on with this pizza either. I suppose the spinach artichoke dip base sounded interesting, but the flavor was meek. The mushrooms, diced tomatoes, provolone and mozzarella cheeses didn't did not contribute much either. Perhaps we should have gotten a different pizza. Let's leave it at that. Definitely a solid 3 1/2 star place for me, but since it was an overall pleasant experience (minus the 20 people group beside us during a pandemic), 4 stars it is. read more

No frills kind of place, but with solid food and portions. I don't think anyone working there was over the age of 17 in the front of the house, and some of the dust could be wiped off the wall hangings, however no one should be expecting anything different. Very very fast servers. There was no messing around. Everything was covered by our waitress. Nothing had to be asked for. The sauce for the pizza and lasagna was very flavorful. Some places just use a tomato saucr with no garlic or oregano. This sauce did not disappoint. The pizza had abite of each topping in every bite. It was a thin crust but very flavorful. The ceaser salad was very good. We will definitely come back to try adittional menu items. This place gets busy for a good reason. read more

Found out Months ago that my beloved Speakeasy was closing indefinitely! It broke my heart. I have grown up on turkey riders, Pasta salad, CCQ and the West Georgia caviar and of course the cheesecake. I have carried the tradition to my children and my grandchildren Chic and they always ask to go to the Speakeasy. So while scrolling through restaurants that had opened back up I saw my beloved Speakeasy. I could not get there fast enough! I even had to wait in line. But I didn't mind at all, it was fabulous and I enjoyed every bit of it. Now that Tavern on the square is no longer with us, this is the only way to get my favorite dishes. Pleasantly surprised at how delicious and different the food items were at this restaurant. Love finding restaurants that aren't chain or corporate type cookie cutter establishments. This place has a great menu selection. The sandwiches are phenomenal. The camel rider is absolutely amazing and I highly recommend it! I had their potato salad which was shockingly good. I am super picky about it and I will tell you, my only complaint was that I wanted MORE!! The pizzas are delicious as well. Everything is fresh and made how you like it. We just happened to find this little place. The service is phenomenal. The young lady that took care of us was amazing. She went above and beyond!! The food was absolutely amazing. Speakeasy was listed in the visitors guide as one of the best Columbus restaurants. We stopped by on Sunday afternoon during labor day weekend. We were one of the few occupied tables in there at that time of day. The service was awesome - I am sure our waiter was tired of filling the drinks of my thirsty boys lol. He was super nice and very good at his job. The menu offered a wide variety of foods - Italian, sandwiches, burgers, Mexican and wings. Grandma and my oldest had the lasagne for $8.99 served with salad and bread. They both liked it. Junior got chicken wings and fries for around $12. I had the 1/2 lb burger with fries. Burger was cooked perfectly, juicy, nice and simple with just lettuce, tomato and cheese. The wait staff were really friendly and nice. The place could use a little face lift - It looks like it hasn't had a remodel or deep cleaning since the 1970's. Surprisingly the bathroom had newer self-flushing toilets. One note to the management: It would be much more appropriate to conduct your new employee training away from your dining guests. The manager sat at a table behind us delivering a stern-sounding employee orientation. I felt like I was sitting outside the principal's office of someone being chewed out. I would have enjoyed my time there better without hearing her talking the entire time. :( read more

The place is always open, always friendly and the food seems consistent, the 1/2 pound Murphy Burger with secret spices(soup mix) was enough for two, the onion straws are fun too. My review is based strictly on the pizza. One bite everyone knows the rules. The pizza is less than average. The dough tastes and has the texture of the cheap frozen pizzas you'd buy in Walmart. This place was recommended by a local place so we decided to go. We were promptly treated and seated. Our waiter immediately came to our table and asked what we would like to drink. We ordered water he brought it promptly and we ordered our meal. After 45 minutes we thought that we were forgotten so rather than going into more detail we left. I could understand a delay if the place was busy but there very few customers as it was a Monday night. My best friends choice on his birthday even though it was a twenty minute wait. "A twenty minute wait?" You would assume that the vittles were good and the service as well... Not so much. The food was standard pub-fare at best, but we didn't expect four stars, but the service was "atrocious" as my friend called it. After waiting twenty minutes for a table, then fifteen before the drinks (all fountain drinks and teas) the waitress dumps a soda all over my friends daughter. Ok, no biggie, we'll get over it. After nearly another fifteen minutes to wipe down the chair though, replace the drink, and apologize incessantly, we get an order in. While we waited nearly twenty minutes for the appetizers, I began to parch. I know a water is a difficult recipe to remember, but you would think that if the food wasn't coming out of the kitchen, the service staff might have the time. And at this point we are, for whatever reason, still optimistic. Ok and now we get the food. But wait, my daughters food isn't out yet because "were waiting on fresh fries" that took nearly fifteen minutes. Now Ive been in the industry long enough to know that fries don't take fifteen minutes even if you hand pick the spuds to order. Let's just call a spade a spade and admit she forgot an order. On top of that our drinks are again empty, a side of black olives I order with my salad still have not been received, and my daughter is in need of a snickers 'cause she's turning into a real diva. And for good reason!! Now comes the ticket and my friends wife has already taken the kids to the cars when the waitress comes back to the table to inquire of the check split, again! Frustrated and annoyed I politely tell her to put it all on one and take my card now so as to save the extra trip. Not once did I see a manager make a table touch, not once did our server offer to make things right (not that we wanted handouts, but the gesture would have been the proper way to handle the situation, and we would have declined). So for all this time and patience i spent nearly $70 and we got two hot wing apps, two kids fingers, two salads, and two hotdogs and a couple fountain drinks. SERIOUSLY? The moral of this story is this: It doesn't matter how nice and apologetic your server is, with this many and level of mistakes to have occurred in one visit, this tells us that poor management and flawed training technique are to blame here. Twenty-two years in the business and I assure you this is at the top of my list for one of the worst experiences I've ever had, and please believe that even though we can be more critical as fellow restauranteurs, we are also much more understanding, and we still end up here. I hope that they can get it together, because my friend is going to force me to eat here again for sure. Ill keep you posted on the revisit. read more

We ate dinner here with friends last night, and while it is a pretty good choice for a low-maintenance meal, it's definitely not worthy of more than 2 stars. But for what it is, it's good. First of all, the place is always packed. I guess that can be a testament to their yummy food and low prices. This is definitely not a place to bring a date -- kids are always running around the restaurant while their parents get tanked on the cheap beer or watch whatever sporting event happens to be on the large-screen TV. Definitely don't go for the ambiance-- there is none. In fact, the guy we had dinner with said he had always thought the place was a strip club because there are no windows and the sign is a little sketchy looking. The food, on the other hand, is pretty decent. My husband loves their turkey rider, which is basically very fresh turkey meat with lettuce, tomato and swiss cheese. Ever since I became a vegetarian, I've been getting the thin-crust pizzas ... the small is more than enough for one person, but I get that size because I'm not wild about their personal pizza crust (a pita). Back in my meat-eating days, the burger and fries were always a good choice for those nights when you wanted a burger and a beer. And, oh, I almost forgot: the beer is so cheap! An entire pitcher of Michelob Ultra is $8, by far one of the better deals in town. Coors and Bud are probably even cheaper than that. The service is usually pretty good, and I've never had a problem with our food taking too long or coming out incorrectly prepared. So overall, it's a reliable experience at a very family-oriented restaurant. read more
