Oh My, where to start...?! We found this little gem on a quick trip to Columbus and so happy we did! From the atmosphere to the staff to the food & drinks, everything was fabulous. I had the Pistachio Crusted Halibut and it was delicious. My husband had the filet & said it was tender and cooked perfectly to his liking. The espresso martini (Salted Silk) was amazing but the star of the night was that cheesecake!!! (We're not the typical cheesecake ordering couple; I mean how much different can you make cheesecake?!) Went there for our anniversary dinner and definitely did not disappoint. Our server was absolutely amazing. She deserves a raise. She was very attentive, respectful and very kind her name is Monique D. My husband's old fashions he tried all three varieties and he thought they were all splendid and he could taste the difference between them all the first drink I had I wasn't quite a fan of, but it tasted exactly how it should so I'm not gonna hold it against anybody my sangria drink I ordered but instead of Prosecco getting Moscato I'm really grateful they did that substitution for me it turned into a dessert wine, which who doesn't love that. Our mussels appetizers was amazing. That broth should be bottled in soul. It was amazing. I love the sausage component to it as well. The fried risotto appetizer was superb would liked a couple more of the risotto balls, but the flavor was there in that sauce. That sauce was just spectacular such a depth of flavor. The garlic bread they serve there you gotta watch out for it's highly contagious. I think my husband ate six baskets full before our main course came out that's how good it is and if you do like the garlic bread, I highly recommend dipping it in the sauce that the risotto balls came in as well as the broth for the mussels. My Caesar salad salad was very good. I would've just liked a little more dressing. Maybe I should've asked for some more so I'm not gonna hold that against them. I just feel like a lot more dressing on my salad. it wasn't a salad that I would write home about. It tasted pretty normal. My husband's side of spaghetti was less than desired. It could've used more sauce for the amount of noodles not saying the portion was wrong at all. There is perfect. Just need a little more sauce or maybe an easy ramekin to stir the sauce into the noodles, a little better. The risotto side was very good texture, wise and cooked perfect however just needed a little more pump of spice just to set it over the top. My husband's bourbon ribeye was very good. It had just a touch of sweetness with the salt from the wood fire just another flavor dimension you wouldn't expect. I thought it was a little too sweet, but it definitely had the bourbon note now my ribeye was the plain ribeye at first I thought it was not salted enough but the more I ate it I can taste the salt coming through which means you could clearly tell that the kitchen knows exactly what they're doing. What a magnificent product they put out the butchering of the stakes was different. There was a not a Uniformity. My steak was a little thicker. My husband was a little wider and thinner. If we're nitpicking, our steaks were cooked to absolute perfection. I've done this that we requested could not get any more on the point of perfect with cooking temperatures my mushrooms were not something I'd write home about. They just were missing another level of flavor to really set them over the top. The Keylime pie never had a better Keylime pie that Keylime pie was perfection. It was smooth. It was creamy. It was tart. It was sweet. I'm not a huge fan of chocolate desserts, but that chocolate cake is to die for. I don't know how you get such a rich but airy light fluffy creamy deliciousness of a dessert and a chocolate cake but they have mastered it there. The cheesecake was very good. It tasted like a traditional cheesecake. Not too sweet. Overall, for the price, you really can't beat it for the quality and quantity of food you get like it is really top-notch a few discrepancies that I forgot to mention the plating wasn't as up to scale as the rest of the restaurant the flavors there are the quantities there, but the presentation of the main courses weren't something of the caliber of that kind of restaurant. Definitely will be returning and I'd like to say we'd try more items but you really just can't beat what we ordered. It was perfect. I absolutely love this new location! Modern Glam. This was my second time visiting and again, I chose to sit at the bar despite there being plenty of seating. It was a Thursday evening. There are high top tables, your traditional dining tables, and meeting space for events/special gatherings. Restrooms are located in two separate areas with one of them having a single stall. The dish I ordered was delicious despite the broccolini tasting a bit smoked or something strange that I can't quite describe right now. Yesterday my brother and I treated our mother to a meal at MaBellas. It was a treat, and well worth the visit. Settled into the Midland Commons complex, the restaurant has a minimalist approach to the decor; not in an industrial-bare-metal-and-hard-corners sense, but more of a Contemplative-glade-wood-trim-and-elegant-lines sense. The hosts are efficient and personable. Reservations are not required but strongly suggested. They can easily be made online or with a call in to the restaurant. Our table was waited by Alice and Lena. Both ladies had that combination of engaged, personable, and attentiveness that one hopes for when seated at a table. Lena was in training, and though she had only been with the restaurant for a few days it was obvious that she was quick on learning the ropes. Alice was steady at ensuring that we didn't want for anything. In other reviews, I have mentioned my family's trend towards specializing an order, sometimes to the point of almost making it a different meal altogether. This visit was no exception. Still, Alice and Lena were game and the orders came out perfect. I ordered the daily special appetizer; a combination of Brussel sprouts served with a honey hot glaze, and fried ravioli served atop a marinara sauce and topped with shaved parmesan. Both were delicious and enough to share for the three of us. For the main course I had the Berkshire porkchop, while my brother had the 8oz filet w/ shrimp and my mother had the chicken parm. All were good. The chop comes with a fig compote that did a fine job of accenting the pork chop without overpowering the flavor. Roasted sweet potatoes and grilled asparagus were good accompaniments to the chop. An excellent crusty seasoned bread was brought to our table along with drinks, and the food arrived in a timely manner once our order was put in. The others were very satisfied with their meals, and we enjoyed the time spent, good conversation, and attention to detail from our wait-staff. Service isn't fast, as part of the experience is to slow down, enjoy the food and each other's company. To that effect, the restaurant wasn't so loud that it was impossible to hear from across the table, even though there were a couple of birthdays in our area of the restaurant. The prices are consistent for a fine dining experience; not so pricey as to be off-putting, but this is not a place to go to for the budget-conscious. What you're paying for is quality ingredients and attention to detail from the staff, both service and kitchen. I was able to talk to the manager for a few minutes toward the end of our visit, and was encouraged to hear that the different restaurants each have a head chef, and that the menu has some variance between the two restaurants. It allows each visit to have a unique quality to it. To my mind, the restaurant is unpretentious. When you enter, you get an Old World sense of elegance from the staff; polite, efficient, engaged. Always a fantastic experience here. Their filet is PERFECTION the crispy little garlic on top is my fav part and it's always cooked just the way I like. The apps and sides are also phenomenal- my fav being the Brussels or broccolini. While all of that is amazing, one of the best parts though is their desserts- the cheesecake is one of the best I've ever had and their cakes always hit the spot - specifically the strawberry for me. There will be no parking eventually and therefore will be many frustrated customers. A lot of area where they should be parking is grass and trees beginning to die. but we did have a family birthday there and the third was good. Nothing to write home about. Services wonderful but food was subpar and we like high in restaurants. If you want to be able to speak to everyone in your party, make sure you sit in the back area. The front area sounds like concert hall. couple things just need to be adjusted and then maybe the kitchen will come around. Best of luck to them! I won't be going back anytime soon. read more

We have tried both locations of Mabella now, and they really just miss the mark. Fine dining just falls short on this restaurant. The new location is loud, the concrete floors and high ceilings are horrible for an intimate setting. The tables are set up to resemble more an outdoor patio that is simply enclosed. Our meal was a 5/10 at best. We had both steak and Italian dishes, both of which we could have made better at home. The service was standard, nothing exceptional that one would expect to see when paying the price of a $$$$ restaurant. Very disappointed again in the hype. Definitely not the bread from Mabella Downtown (Mabella Downtown bread is way softer and fresher) Our entrees took a while to come out and they were not hot, but more on the warm/cold side. For the price of dinner, we expected more. Just a huge disappointment. We live right here in Midland, but we will be driving to Mabella Downtown in the future. Went there three times this year once for in September my children birthday had the lamb chops. Then again in October for mine birthday had the lamb chops. Then last week for carry out of course I had the lamb chops! All three times they were great! The pick up process for the to go order was a bit different. So, first things first.... This place is really amazing and a worthy companion to the original downtown Mabella's. But, I believe a good honest review is important so I'll note our few negatives. All five of our party had ribeye steaks this visit, and they were all delicious and prepared properly (order between rare and medium rare). The baked potato as a side is lively, with all toppings arriving on the side for you to customize to your preference. The wedge salad is really nice as long as you enjoy Gorgonzola cheese, which can be polarizing. My wife enjoys it and found the salad delicious. The sautéed spinach was delightful as well. The first small negative would be the shaved Brussels sprouts. Two of our party ordered it, and while "fine" was not as crispy or tasty as one would hope. The service was very good, as one would expect and the overall ambiance is decent. The largest negative for the entire experience would be the acoustics in the new restaurant. Unfortunately, it is quite loud. The restaurant is composed of two fairly open rooms that do not dampen the sound at all. We had the added negative of being seated seated next to a large party with a rowdy child, and later a party with a woman with a rather... unfortunate laugh. And that entire party was a bit rudely rowdy. Regardless, the general din in the restaurant was quite loud. Not really what you hope for in a more high end restaurant. Hopefully they can work on that, maybe some acoustic tiles on the walls... Overall though, a very nice meal, if a bit loud. Price wise, perhaps a bit higher than one would hope... but you generally get what you pay for. We will definitely return, and I wish them great success, Hopefully the noise issue can be addressed and it will be even better. read more

I was visiting my sister and brother-in-law in Phenix City. I came all the way from California and did NOT have a good experience at Mabella. My brother-in-law did not like his chicken Marsala after taking one bite and asked to change his order. He asked to order the ribeye steak instead and the server said she had to check with her manager. The manager, Marisa , came back to our table and asked what was wrong with the food. My brother-in-law told the manager he didn't want it and wanted to order the steak instead which is more expensive than the chicken Marsala. The manager said she had to speak to the owner named,Tom Jones. Alice, the server, came back to the table announcing that the manager said she could take 30% off the bill for a meal that my brother-in-law did not eat. That is unacceptable and is not a proper resolution for a paying customer. Furthermore, Marisa should have returned to the table herself. We asked Alice for the manager to return to the table. When Marisa, the manager, finally came back to the table she was visibly irritated and said she spoke to the owner and said she could discount the meal by 50%. Again, that is an unacceptable solution. Why would we pay for a meal that was not eaten? By this time, my brother-in-law had lost his appetite. Keep in mind this interaction happened the entire time the rest of us were eating our food. We asked to speak to the owner since Marisa did not appear to have the power to make a decision. Marisa finally came back to the table and we explained that this was unprofessional and not good customer service. We pointed out that even at McDonald's you can replace your order if you don't like something. You are paying for the food that you eat. When we told Marisa that we were going to write a review about the poor service we received she replied "okay". All of us at the table are business owners and understand the power of reviews and how it can impact your business which is why we all strive to provide a great customer experience in our industries. Marisa has no idea and apparently neither does the owner of Marbella's. Marisa left the table and then the server returned to the table and indicated Marisa credited our bill for the entire meal. We had to go through all of this for a $29 meal credit. It is very sad that in this day and age, Black people are still treated as second class citizens by some people. Mabella's manager and owner need to understand the importance of excellent customer service, regardless of who the customer is. We chose to go out to dinner to spend quality time with each other. We could've chosen any restaurant but we chose Mabella. Going out to dinner is not only about the food but about the entire experience. We did not have a good experience and truthfully, the food was not that good. My steak was not seasoned and my partner's roasted mushrooms were cold; however, we didn't even bother complaining about our food. The entire experience was ruined by the interaction with staff.
