Stopped here because of all of the good Yelp reviews.They are only opened for dinner on Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 5:30 - 8pm. They start you off with with bread and butter from their bakery. Very good. I had the Jaeger Schnitzel with red cabbage and German potato salad. The red cabbage was the hit. The potatoes lacked flavor and the Schnitzel was way too thick and the gravy was too watery. My wife got a cucumber salad and didn't care for it. She did like her Jaeger Schnitzel. We also got an order of potato pancakes with applesauce. They were just average but very cheap to other restaurants we have eaten at. The prices are very reasonable and the service is excellent. The portions are large. They also have a bakery with breads and German pastries. We were too full to try dessert. They could do some decorating to make it feel more like a German Restaurant. read more

This German dinner was superb! The menu provides for your own option of sides and portions are perfect. Begin with the home made breads and butter spread. I loved that none of the food was greasy and the full of flavor! I had the Pork Schnitzel and requested it with their pork gravy. For my sides I chose the Pan-Fried Potatoes that were so delicious. I also got the Sauerkraut. I can tasted the best sauerkraut I have ever had. The red cabbage is also so very good. Prices are reasonable. Service is friendly and inviting. You are made to feel so welcomed and appreciated. Truly a family friendly experience. They don't have a liquor license but you can bring your own bottle of wine to drink. They offer Coke products and do have coffee and espresso machines. Only minor negative is the tables and chairs are not made for dining. More like for a quick snack. Had metal chairs, the seat cushion helps but the backing is uncomfortable. The tables are odd too, for the legs get in the way of table top placement. Hoping once they get settled, they might change those out. Overall, if you like and want a legit German dinner, you must try this new spot. read more

I've been meaning to try Mama G's for a while and finally did when I saw them on the Too Good to Go app. With my purchase I received a variety of 6 different sweet and savory pastries. This was my first experience with German bakes, which to me were heartier but slightly less sweet than French bakes. My favorite was the German apple pie! I ordered a surprise box from too good to go and the pickup window was in the late afternoon. I got here super early to do some computer work and set up shop because I had an event at the Ritz in the evening. When i explained how early I was to pick up my box, they gave me my box early! I was able to sample soo many different pastries I would never have picked myself. From the looks of the pastries and their online menu I received: a peach danish, apricot danish, chocolate croissant, apple twist, and a ham and cheese croissant. I tried them a little on the spot and they definitely needed to be warm to re-soften, but the flavors were absolutely there. This morning I heat them up and I loved them all. I would definitely come back if I'm ever back in the area! Happy to visit a closer location in Gulf Gate and enjoyed sweet and savory offerings - and took delicious dinner rolls home. Service was excellent and friendly (excellent server behind the counter!), as it was at the Trail location, although smaller in size. I would suggest that the owners consider some type of sound proofing as both places were extremely noisy - curtains, plants, carpeting. And the thought that young children may play in the corner set up for them would add to the already high level of noise. Mama G's styles itself as an authentic German bakery. It now has several locations in Sarasota, and this review is for the one opposite the USF Sarasota campus. The store has some parking directly in front of it in a shared parking lot with a subway and captain brians. There is seating inside and they offer take out too. There is a selection of freshly baked breads and pastries as well as some hot food items. Service was quick and professional. Really nice family business and must go if you are in Sarasota. It's small, comfortable, all the staff & owners are very friendly. They have a lunch plate of the day, (potato latke (2) with apple sauce) was the plate today. I got this with a Cuban pasterie. The potato was crispy on the outside with very little oil, inside firm but mashed, not dry or too mushy. One side is the coffee side and then the middle is desserts including Apple dumplings. Went to this lovely bakery twice. Authentic European German bakery. It is the best bakery for savory baked goods in town per my assessment . Spinach or egg based or meat pies. Wow!!! The selection of croissants and other pastries was incredible!!! Tried a savory and several sweet pastries and they were all delicious. the coffee was luke warm and not very good. powdered creamer is never good and in my opinion should never be the best option of creamer but it was :/ i dont do dairy creamer so almond milk or oat milk would have been nice. i had the spinach and ricotta pastry and it was also luke warm and it had an unusual flavor. probably should have chosen something sweet instead of savory. This is Mama G's new location. Primarily bakers this sweet little Café serves German cuisine for lunch Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Their breads are very good and they have an array of pastries. If you've not been there before you're not quite sure what to do,whether you go up to the counter or you seat yourself and wait for someone to pay attention to you. There were several people behind the counter, but no one to greet you or to tell you what to do and no signs. You order at the register and the food is brought to your table. This used to be the site of Stix the Asian restaurant. Mama G has done a good job in making it nice, bright and inviting. The food menu is limited . Friends had goulash and a roll which they thought was very good. Another friend had braised pork shank, which was served with sauerkraut and German potato salad. The shank was very tender and flavorful. He thought it was very good and certainly didn't have any leftovers. I had a bratwurst with sauerkraut, German potato salad and a roll. For my part, the sauerkraut was a little on the sweet side. The German potato salad was not marinated in bacon dressing. It was like boiled potatoes with bacon dressing poured over it. A little disappointing. The bratwurst was good. Certainly worth checking out and buying some of their breads. read more

This has to the dumbest place in Sarasota. They have a link - on their own website- to Grubhub and it allows you to view their menu, place an order and pay for it. I did this. It was confirmed. They charged my card, sent me three texts stating it was confirmed and they were getting it ready to deliver to me in 10 minutes. 5 minutes after this is was cancelled....that's it. No explanation, nothing. When I spent 15 minutes calling Grubhub and they said "oh Bavarian only takes cash". REMOVE Grubhub from your website if you only take walk ins with CASH. A colossal waste of time and for this reason I will never go try this place. I find it very hard to believe I am the first person who did this and got my order cancelled. FIX your website. read more

For getting a taste of german bread and rolls go to this bread Shop. The Wonder is a bavarian baker which greates very good Rolls and bread. Rolls with Cheese and Sesam, Full corn rolls and Hand Made bread. Try it and love it. in German: Wer in Sarasota ist und zum Frühstück gute Brötchen essen möchte ist hier richtig. This place is a special treat. I'm very fortunate that I live within walking distance. Everything they do is incredible. Most of their business is to restaurants, but they still stay open for regular folks like you and me. You have to get there early! That's something we kind of forget about in modern life. Real bakers go to work between 3-5 AM. If you don't get there by 7-to-8 in in the morning, they might be cleaned out of what you wanted (still go anyway! They always have something good.) The owners are a somewhat goofy family (which is great! Yes, bottle the scent! The guy tells me that story every time I come in and mention how amazing it smells in there.) Mostly what I appreciate, is that they could have stayed in business by just selling to restaurants (which is actually the majority of their business), but they continue to be open to regular people like us. I'm just a guy buying a loaf of bread, not a "place" buying a few dozen loaves. But they're always as as enthusiastic and helpful as if I was. Oh, did I mention the quality is always outstanding? I think I forgot to say that. ARRGH it's almost 9:30 as I'm writing this review! I better get moving or I won't get any of the ciabatta, focaccia, multigrain, rolls, loafs, etc. Gotta go! read more
