I ordered the spare part and called Lee & Nakata the day the part came in, to find out what time they closed. I told them what time I would be coming by. They knew what part I needed and they told me to come back when the part came in. I have to take the lightrail train from work and get to them a little after 4pm (as I said to them when I called). I parked my car, explained to the mechanic who helped me before, and he seemed to be interested in helping me install the part. Another man who works there, came up and started talking Chinese Cantonese (I can recognize the difference between Mandarin and Cantonese) and then said to me in VERY ANGRY ENGLISH: "You cannot come here and ask us to do this for you! No! We will not do it for you it is a safety issue! No. Too late, you need to come back in the morning, we are not going to do this!" He is literally yelling at me. For coming to his business to give him business. I literally asked him "why are you yelling at me?" and instead of answering "why" he continued with his tirade of "we are closing soon! No! We are not going to do this!" , making me feel like I had pressured them/done something wrong by bringing my business to them. Had I imagined that phone call I made, earlier? My phone's history says I talked with them. I am glad they gave such horrible service because I ended up saving lots of money installing the part myself. I am shocked to be yelled at by someone for trying to give them business. If you cant help me, just tell me, like normal 'inside voice' volume, with normal adult words. I was so close to cursing him out in Mandarin (I do not know how to speak Cantonese) but I decided I'll just let everyone know about my experience (until yelp takes this down when the business starts paying for advertising, you know yelp is shady when it comes to companies who pay help for advertising)

It was a little bit of a hassle especially when I was pulled over because of my paper temp plates and having to explain to the officer. I don't know who these one…read morestar people are but their assessments of Rick Automotive (not to be confused with Rick's Automotive, which is another shop in town) are completely unfounded. And I speak from experience being a 15 year plus customer bringing no less than 40 cars (yes, I have car addiction issues) in for a variety of services such as brake jobs, tune ups clutches, AC and heating repairs, electrical problems, even engine rebuilds and complete drive train swaps. Whether it's a 1950's car or a newer car. He's worked on them all and has always provided 5 star service. First, understand that he is a one man shop. All repairs are done by him personally, unless it's a part that requires a machine shop or a specialty mechanic like transmissions or carburetors. So, this is not a shop that several technicians working on cars to move them out the door as quickly as possible. He does not take possession of a repair until he has room in his shop. The accusation that he would leave a 1968 Chevelle sitting outside when he is not open for business is ridiculous. It's not a giant shop, so Rick will put cars outside to make room to work on cars inside. At the end of the business day, cars are moved back inside. Any exceptions would be that the car owner understands their car will sit outside in a fenced paved parking lot. Rick is fair and he is honest. I've never had a negative experience with this shop and I personally know of several of Rick's regular customers and they too are grateful to have him. He does work on new cars, but I want to point out to other classic car owners that most shops won't touch something that doesn't snap together and has a computer to tell them what's wrong. Diagnostics through skill is a rapidly dying art. As for the racial slur, that's total BS. What Tim B. witnessed was friendly banter between Rick and a customer who is also a personal friend. Before becoming offended at a remark that was not directly made towards you, you should have all the facts instead of casting judgement. Rick would not make such remarks towards someone who is strictly a customer. Many of Rick's customers become personal friends. Banter is normal between people who share personal relationships. What they allow between them is between them, not you. As for Blake A., I think I've already provided statements that show his remarks to be questionable. Finally, I recommend anyone who is looking for a good, honest mechanic, to give Rick a shot at what you have. Don't expect miracles. If you car or truck is a POS, then no mechanic can save it without you forking out a lot of bread. The difference is with Rick is he will give you the best advice he can instead of just taking you for a sucker and bleeding you dry.
