When we finally were ready, I revisited Carpetworks plus a couple of other places. Carpetworks had the carpet and color we liked, for the best price (another shop had the exact same thing but would charge us thousands more). The installers did a fabulous job: super efficient and careful, managed the jenga of shuffling our furniture between rooms so the next room was always ready when the installer was ready, cleaned everything up. We love our new carpet and highly recommend Carpetworks!

I reached out to him multiple times about this issue. The project took way longer than expected and the subcontractor was consistently late in getting started. One critical day in particular, he didn't show up until noon, thus running into the workday end time that my condo association requires. I sensed that the subcontractor had other priorities at times. Michael also did not offer to take away the excess floor underlayment and the unusable floor boards. On the positive side, Michael was able to secure an underlayment with a less popular thickness, which involved extra time and coordination. One of the installers did a fabulous job with my stairs. And the floor does look beautiful. I was able to go to the warehouse and get extra samples to ensure that it was a good match for my place. That was a big help. Michael also did help me get a payment from a moving company that slightly damaged my floor. There are flooring companies whose installers are employees. I would go with one of those companies next time. I had a fabulous experience working with Brothers Home Improvement on new windows. The employees there are like family, and the company is still standing by its windows, 18 years later.

A few days ago I noticed that on one of our faucets, if I closed the hot water side too fast there was a little bit of a rattle under the house. I thought I could handle it myself after asking Perplexity what it could be and installed a water arrestor. That didn't help so I thought, maybe it could be the strapping. I reached out to Handy Plumbing Man on a Saturday and they were quick to respond that they could have someone there on Monday. Monday morning came and their technician, Miguel, went down and found that one of the pipes they had worked on wasn't totally secured. No problem, mistakes happen. He said he'd call the office to get technicians over to check the strapping on the work below. I had to go into work but did get a message from them later on that day to see if they could get someone over the same day (Monday) to fix it. This is more on me that I had already gone into work, but they said they could do tomorrow morning at 8am. The guys, Carlos and Baltazar, came bright and early, went under the house and secured the pipe and then some. Awesome company!

We first contacted him at the last minute on July 4 because we were concerned about a possible leak. Mario arrived promptly and performed a very thorough and patient inspection. After carefully examining the area, he determined that there was no active leak and that what we were seeing was simply a stain on the wood. Even though he had come out on a holiday and spent time investigating the issue, he did not charge us for the inspection. We really appreciated his honesty, professionalism, and willingness to help. We then asked him to clear a clogged bathtub drain. He removed hair after each attempt and could easily have stopped after the first or second try, since the drain was already beginning to improve. However, he felt there was still a larger blockage deeper in the drain, so he kept working until he finally removed the biggest hairball I have ever seen. That persistence made a real difference, and the drain has worked extremely well ever since. Mario was professional, dependable, honest, and committed to getting the job done properly. For plumbing emergencies or routine plumbing work, I would highly recommend Mario's Plumbing and Drains.

So, I used the app to get a quote since I thought my vacuum needed a tune-up and maybe a broken agitator belt fixed. His price was super reasonable. Here's the thing-- no storefront. Victor actually picks up and delivers your vacuum. He grabbed mine the next day (Monday) and had it back to me by Sunday. When he picks it up, there's no invoice or prepayment -- just the honor system. If you're skeptical, you might worry you'll never see your vacuum again, but Victor keeps you updated via IM the whole time until he shows up with your like-new vacuum. I've got three vacuums, so I'm pretty sure I'll be calling him again. I'm sharing this mostly for anyone who "doesn't have a guy" and might only need vacuum repair once in a while. Our job consisted of pulling up rooms of old carpet as well as an old kitchen hardwood floor, and replacing it all with 3/4" engineered wood from a Canadian company called Mirage. Elite's quote for materials and labor was not the most expensive nor the least, but when going through our house, Aleksey thought of questions, spotted issues, AND thought of solutions that no one else had asked about or even noticed. He was also the only one who told us that he could carefully remove our elaborate wooden baseboards without breaking most or all of them. Every other place simply said we would likely need to replace it all. As a result, their pricing was actually lower than anyone else if you take into account the cost we saved by not having to replace one single piece of baseboard. He was meticulous, measuring three times before ordering materials just to make sure he got the numbers right. Installation went smoothly and included work like grinding down areas of our foundation that were not smooth, moisture testing, coating of the slab with a moisture barrier, etc. They also made sure they installed the wood in a manner that will allow the kitchen appliances to be removed without damaging the floor, when the time comes that they need to be replaced. Again, no one else we spoke with even mentioned any of this. There were transitions between floorings of some rooms that were at different heights. For some of the areas, Aleksey did not care for the off the shelf transitions that companies sell. Instead, he and his crew crafted their own transition pieces & thresholds that looked beautiful and did the job. Far more elegant and unintrusive. They did the same for the transitions between stone surrounding fireplaces and one bathroom. Everything was carefully thought through. The guys showed up at 8 AM and sometimes worked until 5 or 6 pm if they were trying to get certain things done. They were professional, knowledgeable, friendly, polite and cleaned up after themselves. Communication with Aleksey was always good. Elite Hardwood & Flooring is not simply an installation company.
